Great! 3 hours of dark lighting. Just what we need. /s |
The Master (2012) A hypnotic, captivating, and enigmatic film. A film in which the format concentrates on the smallest of things: a character study that focuses on our protagonist's (and Lancerster's) mentality and role in society. Joaquin Phoenix's Joker portrayal is excellent, but I think his performance here is by far the finest I've seen from him; part of that may be because it's grounded in a much better film (and a better-written role), but I still appreciate the liveliness and mumbling he brought to this role.

Cube (1997) Easily one of the best claustrophobic horrors I've ever seen. I've always like movies about people in tense situations. The picture begins with what appears to be a giangetic cube filled with several little compartments, some of which contain lethal traps. The main characters quickly meet and begin asking themselves questions about how they got there, why they're there, and so on. What I like about it is that they are all unique. The plot revolves around how the characters evolve as they move from one room to the next. They gradually remove their masks, revealing what people are capable of doing in a tense situation. Without giving too much away, I'll tell you that they only got what they deserve.

The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021) Had some stunning cinematography and acting, but I'm not a big fan of Shakespeare, so this didn't appeal to me much. |
Hell or High Water (2016) It's a neo-western thriller about two brothers who rob banks at a time when cowboys and outlaws have become obsolete as rural Texas life devolves into despair. The pacing was superb, and I particularly like the moral ambiguity between the opposing storylines of the cops and the robbers, which made it tough to choose a side. Those who are unfamiliar with Taylor Sheridan's work should see Yellowstone and Mayor of Kingstown TV shows. They're really good. His newest, 1883, isn't looking too shabby either. |
Moura7:I'll only watch a Korean show if it's bankrolled by Netflix. The importance of high production value cannot be overstated. |
armadeo:Season 6 only features 6 episodes, I reckon you'd devour it in a single sitting. The season finale is a banger. |
Funjosh:Root your phone, install Titanium Backup, then locate and uninstall the bloatware. |
AnfieldFan:I said "In the original Marvel universe," I'm not sure how they're ranked today, but I know Spider-Man is only inferior to the most powerful cosmic characters. |
AnfieldFan:I believe it was established that he is the fourth strongest character in the original Marvel universe, only surpassed by the Hulk, Thing, and Thor in that order. |
If Tom's Spider-Man suddenly turns heel, he'd make an excellent villain. Consider the devastation he'd cause if he stopped pulling his punches and finally let loose.

Absolutely brilliant. Couldn't have asked for a better ending for the show. They did an excellent job of leaving the Laconia arc open-ended. I truly hope Amazon changes their mind or that another studio picks it up. I'm not getting my hopes up, but there's always a chance.

Kaycee7:Me too. What a letdown. |
oyaskii:Exactly. |
nani667:I'm assuming you'll watch it on a 4K UHD Widescreen? Anything less would be a waste of data. |
Finally watched Dune, and I have to say, it lived up to hype. Great film. Easily my best film of 2021. 1... Dune 2... Judas and the Black Messiah 3... Spider-Man: No Way Home 4... The Last Duel 5... Chibudollar:France has a sizable black population, numbering in the millions. |
abduleez1:The kid leaves an impression of someone who thinks too highly of themselves, yet is utterly unaware that they're a cretin. It's heartbreaking to observe his sheer lack of self-awareness. |
Kaycee7:That's it! That's the phrase I was looking for. That's exactly how he comes across. |
DieRich5:His entire post is cretinous. He didn't make a single significant contribution. His Manchester United/Bayern analogy is the cherry on top. |
OhBritannia:Are you by any chance, Cutemercury? Your rambling post reminds me of him. You and his reasoning are analogous to someone who was not breastfed as a newborn. When others disagree with you, you become upset and become overly verbose without providing any valuable input. This may sound counterintuitive to you, but sometimes less is more. Make your argument, but keep it brief. We understand that you love WoT; good for you. However, going the additional mile to shit on a better show reveals a pathetic personality that requires validity to be fulfilled. That, my friend, isn't cool. |
Season 2 of The Witcher is making so much sense right now. I'm loving it. |
Iamyemmie:It's difficult not to have high expectations when one considers that it's a television adaptation of one of the best fantasy series of all time. The large budget spent on production and marketing is nothing to scoff at. We're talking about a flagship series here, some serious shit. To be completely honest, I expected more. |
I've just started watching WoT, and I have to say, I'm not feeling it. It feels like a chore to finish an episode. The sloppy script and weird cinematography contributed to the impression that it's highly expensively produced CW show. Hopefully, it will improve in subsequent episodes because it is extremely lacking given the budget. |
radec:Sorry to break it to you, but episode 9 was the season finale. |
JackBizzle:Yup, dumb as a shitbrick. ![]() The use of humour in a theatrical or literary work, to relieve tension and provide relief. In a satirical revisionist western or satirical anything for that matter, every character is a (potential) source of comic relief. Django Unchained and Succession (TV show) exemplify this perfectly. |
JackBizzle:Django Unchained is a mash-up of comedy, satire, and history, with SLJ's portrayal of a house slave being a creative exaggeration. Clearly, you took his portrayal of a house slave at face value, and tragically, you missed the humour and irony. |
JackBizzle:Either you're playing devil's advocate or you're dumb as a brick. In Django Unchained, SLJ played a jerk, and, as in his other roles, he provided comic relief. |
JackBizzle:How? In Django Unchained, what adjectives best describe his character? Douchebag or Kind? How does this differ from his previous roles, in which he essentially played variations of this character? How can you possibly be blind to the fact that you're wearing biased tinted glasses? |
