TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by Vicjustice:
miri8d: Thanks for your response vicjustice. I was thinking this but by me not having a job at the moment play a part in their refusal? I have over 8k, so for 2 weeks more than sufficient. I'm not sure whether 3k on his part will be ok in terms of the eyes of the visa official.
Right, no depositing, I thought so, thank you.

It's ok, the visa specialist was recommended by the citizens advice beaureu in the uk as well as our local MP. They're well known. But I didn't know hiring one for help would result in a ban.
I thought you were talking about some mischievous syndicate (in Nigeria) professing to be a "visa agent". Well, I still don't see any need for the service of an agent whether in Nigeria or abroad.
However, as neither you nor your husband has a job, it would be reasonable for for the visa officer to refuse his application on employment ground as this is a basic requirement to fulfill.

Africaine: this is a big relief, thank you for the prompt response. So can we apply for 2years visas for our kids, with thier virgin passports? they are aged 4,3 and 3months respectively?
Your kids can not have the 2 years visas if you (the parents) do not have it: it is ok for your entire family to apply for such long term multi-entry visas. But bear in mind that two years visa is issued on necessity and not on sequences. So, unless it is deemed necessary (that is if you are constantly in need of visa renewal), the visa officer might not deem it appropriate to approve this kind of visa
TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by Vicjustice:
miri8d: I came across this thread while looking for advice related to my visa difficulties. I have to say the responses on this thread have been amazing, kudos to you guys!

I hope you'll be able to give some advice in my case. My husband will be applying for a family visit visa to visit my parents for two weeks (hopefully in August), I'll be accompanying him on the flight (I'm british). He was previously refused before we were married due to insufficient funds on his part(even though I was sponsoring him at the time, I had a job and was living in the uk) as well as insufficient ties to the country he was applying from(he had been in his job for a year, which they stated wasn't long enough).

This time it will be My parents who will be sponsoring him, as I moved to his country to join him and have yet to find a job, but I do have an ample amount of savings. But like previously, I'm worried the same problem will arise. He has savings of over £1500 and about the same amount in his current account. He will have an additional payment of over £1000 for freelance work he has done, which Im worried when deposited into his account might look a bit suspicious to a visa official, like mentioned in this thread it could look like "Money Lodgement". So we're both not sure what to do *dilemma* He has now been in the same job for over 2 years and has just rented a new apartment with a years contract (Will this be sufficient? I'm overloading myself with info from everything I've read and over worrying myself.

Any advice at all, would be great.
Thanks in advance.

A bit of additional info, I've looked into help from a visa specialist but wondering whether I should save money and do it myself, or let the specialist handle the application.
I won't recommend sponsorship by your own parents, he is a married man, therefore, it is expected of him to be capable of self sponsor, or alternatively, you (as his spouse) can sponsor him.
Let him not make the mistake of depositing money into his account unless he is able to provide comprehensive and credible evidence of the source of the money.
Warning! Flee from whoever that "agent" is who accords himself a "visa specialist", s/he could get your husband into a huge trouble that may get him banned from the UK for 10 years: you don't need any "agent" unless you want to waste your money and get banned as a result of their error

Africaine: Hi Vicjustice,
My husband and I applied for 6months UK tourist visas last year and we were given. I travelled but my husband didn't.Now we intend to renew and apply for visas for ourselves and our kids,we have 3 with virgin passports. My question is the fact that my husband didn't travelled going to act against us? Does dat affect me and the kids. And generally can we apply for 2yrs visas for our kids even though they havnt travelled before?
Absolutely not, the fact that your husband did not travel with the previous visa is definitely a plus to his next application. Understand that the main concern of visa officers is the possibility of absconding by a visa holder, therefore, in the event that a visa holder did not make use of the visa, that fear is eliminated: therefore, your husband stands a better chance of getting the visa now than in the previous application

TravelRe: Can I Go To Greece With A Shengen Visa From The Lithuanian Embassy In England? by Vicjustice:
syrianinlondon: Hello everyone,

I live in London, I want to go on holiday to Greece at the end of June 2013, but when I went to book an appointment at the Greek embassy I found out that the next available appointment is just 2 days before my travelling time. (after 6 weeks from now and they require 2 weeks of time before my travelling date) I have Syrian nationality.

I have been to Lithuania few times before, and it is easy for me to get a visa from the Lithuanian Embassy more than any other embassies.

Can I apply for a visa to Lithuania, and then I go to Greece with this Visa?

Please Help !
It is perfectly safe to do so, but you might have to explain this to them at the port of entry.

falex61: Hi house. I need some help. I have a UK fiancée who is british and we both plan the get married in the UK. My fiancée has the financial ability to cater for both of us.
Read in forums that both our bank statements are needed for the visa process but considering I just graduated from school and about completing my nysc, I don't have an attractive bank statement. As stated earlier, my fiancée has the financial ability. Will my bank statement be necessary?
Invite her to do the registry in Nigeria, a tourist/visit visa does not entitle you the rights to do the registry in the UK

chomiq3: Wow but this same UKBA has granted lots of applicants from Nigerian attending the same seminar am about to attend with just 800k in their accounts. Infact most of them are first timers and some have gotten 2 years after their 6 months visa expired. Please don't rule out that its not possible cos I've seen it happened. Is a monthly seminar that most of our members attend.
Is just that the person that packaged my first application did not do it well. That's why am seeking for advise here.
Like I said, it is very possible for the elites or the eminent personnels to get visas with such applications, so, perhaps those that you referred to are considered as such: most people can not get a visa in similar circumstances.
TravelRe: Main Reasons Many Are Refused Visas by Vicjustice(op): 1:17pm On May 10, 2013
chomiq3: Thanks for ur quick response. The seminar is 2 days and I will be spending about 6 nights in the Uk.
I chose to attend d seminar cos I work as a Project Administrator for my company. And I have done A British Project Mgt course/Training here in Nigeria with their certificate and membership card sent to me from their UK oddice in 2011 which I included in my first visa application. Am working on getting d international PM certification which the seminar provides and this will make me a Project Manager with higher pay.

However I intend to spend £1,600 pounds for my trip and I have about 1,370m about £5,500 pounds in my salary account. Well I haven't travelled out before, are you saying I should first travel before I reapply and to which country? And is the money in my account not enough to reapply? should I get a sponsor or have my friend in the UK invite me or should I tell them my circumstances has changed the have my friend invite me and still attend the seminar because is of importance to my career. Please which option would best to reapply.
Thank you.
Except you are a Nigerian elite, or you are an eminent personel in Nigerian, i don't see how a visa officer would want to approve a visa for you to attend a trivial conference or seminar that would be held for only two days; from the perspective of a visa officer, it all seems an excuse to enter into the UK: you don't seem to have a credible reason to visit the UK, i may be wrong though.
I'd recommend that you look for other reasons to visit the UK, perhaps tourist visa would be better, you can include the seminar as one of the purposes, but to use such trivial matter as the main reason for wanting to visit the UK is suspicious

chomiq3: Please house and @Justwise I need ur candid advise. I was refused a UK general visa in September 2012.
I was to attend a career advancement seminar (Project Mgt) in the Uk and I had 650k statement.

Their reason for refusal was that "You state dat u will fund ur trip and that u earn 200k monthly with annual salary 3.4m and have submitted ur salary/savings statements. The credits and balances in ur account are not consistency with ur declared monthly income. There are numerous credits in addition to ur stated income. U have failed to explain as to the source of these funds. Without satisfactory evidence I am not satisfied that d statement is a true reflection of d accounts activities or that d funds are genuinely available for ur use. Therefore on the balance of probabilities I am not satisfied that u will be maintained accommodated in the UK without working or having recourse to public fund.

After 8 months I want to reapply but am scared of refusal again.
I avoided not having any other money except my 200k salary paid into my salary account and I have N1.37m in the account now. With my invite from d Uk institution, payslip employer's introduction letter, hotel booking etc.

Please how to I go about this application in other not to be refused and should have filled a business visa instead of a general visa? And should I book a flight this time?
Note my 3 months salary for Nov,Dec,Jan were paid in Feb as arrears but since Feb till date it has been constant will this affect my application?
Thanks.
How long is the seminar taking place?
Why have you chosen to attend this particular seminar in the UK?
How is the seminar going to be of benefit to your "career"?
How much do you intend to spend for the trip?
Why would you be spending your life savings just to attend a seminar?
How much money would be left for you to live on after your return?
Have you ever traveled abroad before?
What would you be returning to Nigeria for?

The only way to get around the ban is the exercise of rights by marriage. TravelRe: What You Need To Know About Using Atms Abroad by Vicjustice: 7:07pm On May 05, 2013
igelomo: Making withdrawals off of debit cards through ATMs abroad can sometimes be wrought with problems, annoyances, confusion, or, in rare cases, all out disaster. Additional foreign transaction bank fees and ATM fees add up, sometimes your card will not work in certain countries. Occasionally, the machine will “eat” your card, there is always a risk of being mugged during or after making an ATM transaction, there is a chance that your card number and/ or password can be scraped by thieves using a variety of methods, and, sometimes, the machine simply does not give you all (or any) of the money you attempt to withdraw.

There are so many potential hazards and annoyances to using ATMs abroad why would anyone bother using this method?

In point, even with these drawbacks the majority of travelers today find making international withdrawals with a debit card through ATMs to be the most convenient, cheapest, and, yes, most secure way of accessing your money abroad. I am of this camp, as the only other options that I know of are carrying all my cash, putting it in local banks, or using traveler checks — all of which carry hassles and risks which I feel to be greater than those inherent to relying on ATMs.

Tips for using ATMs when traveling

Only use ATMs immediately connected to reputable and major banks. There are plenty of instances that have been recorded of crooks purchasing ATMs and setting them up in the street or in front of businesses as well as tons of examples of ATM security being compromised. Give yourself the best odds of this not happening to you by trying to only use ATMs at major banks.

Only use the ATM of a bank during business hours. It is a great convenience for users that many banks have ATMs available 24 hours, the problem is that if something goes wrong with your transaction there will be nobody around to assist you if the bank is closed.

Always scope out the location of an ATM prior to using it. Before using an ATM for the first time be sure to check out its surroundings as a security precaution. Stand across the street from it and observe the people in your general proximity. Are there people milling about listlessly? Are there shady looking characters hanging out on nearby street corners? Do other banking customers appear to be getting harassed or followed as the exit the bank? Scope out the scene around a few different ATMs in a city (if possible) and select the securest seeming option.

Avoid ATMs in the street if you can. If it is possible, only use ATMs that are inside of the bank itself or are in a room right next to it — avoid ATMs that are in the street.

Prefer ATMs with designated guards. Guards are good when using ATMs. Just don’t let them help you make a transaction — security guards can be thieves too.

Prefer ATMs that have a lot of other users. There is often safety in numbers, or at least the zebra effect where chances of you being predated upon are less when in the vicinity of other choices of prey. Avoid ATMs in more or less deserted locations.

Always use the same ATM. If you’ve used an ATM successfully once, chances are that you could do so again. Find a good ATM in a city, and use this machine every time you make a withdrawal.

As should be obvious, never let ANYONE (even a cop or security guard) help you use an ATM. Even if you don’t understand the language the teller machine is using, making guesses is often better than taking assistance from someone who may rob you. If worse comes to worse, try to find a fellow traveler or a local you feel you can trust to assist you.

Never make more than two errors per ATM visit. This means if you type in your code wrong or do anything that could lead to the transaction being canceled more than twice your card stands a chance of being eaten by the machine. If you screw up the transaction twice, take back your card and go to another ATM a couple of hours later.

Always take a receipt. If you have a problem with an ATM (i.e. if it doesn’t give you your money, eats your card etc . . .) you have a much better chance of having things set right if you have the transaction slip. When I recently had a problem with an ATM in Mexico, the first thing the bank director asked for was my transaction slip.

Be aware of how much your bank charges you per ATM transaction. If you are being charged over a 1% international transaction fee by your bank, you are being hosed and should move your money. I’ve heard of some pretty large international ATM transaction fees being charged, so be sure to check this before going abroad.

Check bank statements regularly. As you travel the world it is almost impossible not to throw your debit card number around. I NEVER use my debit card for anything other than ATM transactions or for secure online purchases made with my own computer, but I still know that my card number could still get away from me. I check my bank statements at least twice a month for any potential fraudulent purchases.

Additional tips for keeping debit cards secure

Keep debit card secure. Always, always, always keep your debit card in a secure location. When changing locations, keep your debit card in a hidden money belt or a hidden pocket. When in a hotel room, hostel, or apartment keep your debit card, passport, money, and everything else that is important or valuable in a bag that is securely locked shut. This bag should also be locked to a bed frame or other immovable object in the room. Your debit card numbers can be stolen and used when you’re still in possession of the card — all someone needs to do is copy the relevant numbers, so keep your cards securely concealed at all time.

Be careful making online purchases from public computers. Many public computers (yes, hostel computers are public) are FULL of viruses, malware, and, occasionally, programs that can record your debit and credit card numbers as well as usernames and passwords. I recommend traveling with your own internet accessing device for this reason alone. Just because you are making a secure online purchase, does not mean that your important details are not being logged on the computer you are using — even a client of an internet cafe or hostel can install and use these key and screen logger programs easily. Try to avoid using public computers whenever possible.
Problems I’ve had with ATMs while traveling

Generally speaking, if you follow the above tips to a practical degree you will more than likely have few problems when using ATMs abroad. In over 12 years of travel through 50 countries, it has been rare that I’ve had ATM problems. I’ve only experienced two instances where the ATM did not give either myself or my travel companion all the money it should have. I traveled in Iraq during a time when the country was blacklisted by VISA, so my debit card would not work. In Colombia, my wife discovered to her surprise that her VISA endorsed debit card could not be used, as her bank had blacklisted the country. In point, I’ve made hundreds upon hundreds of successful ATM transactions throughout my travels, and, if following the basic guidelines above, the automatic teller machine is, in my opinion, the best and most secure way to access money while traveling abroad.

On situations and circumstances

I use the guidelines and tips set forth above as a criteria for using ATMs in an ideal circumstance. Sometimes, the ebbs and flows of travel lead to situations where a traveler may need to make an ATM withdrawal in circumstances that are anything but preferential. So be it — use the tips above where practical, and use common sense and your own experience to guide you the rest of the way.

Well, from your writing manners, I could see that you're learned, and I must be honest in expressing my disappointment when you asked "what additional documents" you need... despite the analysis and explanations that the original article contains.
"It is boring to hear people asking "what documents" that are required for this or for that visa, and i see that no matter how many individuals that are answered, there will continue to be many others who will ask the same question over and over and over again. It doesn't make much of a sense to ask this same question or to keep on answering it to everyone who asked it, so, i have decided to create this narrative list to answer the question conclusively"

So, what do you expect me to say when you asked that question despite reading the article, to begin writing the list all over again?

[quote author=T-Cann]@Justwise, Dis Guy, Vicjustice et all

My friend whom I earlier told you (in my previous bolded posts) applied for the UK visa with his wife and 2 sons have been denied. Too bad! I went there to collect the packets with him. Now to the issues:

In the refusal note, the Visa Officer stated that he said he has a monthly income of 417 pounds and doesn't receive any other income from other sources. Also that he stated that he has 5,500 available to him for the visit and further stated that 2000 will be the cost to him personally for the stay in UK. The visa officer stated that he did not state what he intends to do in the UK (which he did- shopping and tourism) and was curious why no explanation as to why he wants to spend 5 times his monthly salary on a trip to the UK. [PLS WHAT IS THE DIFF BTW MONEY AVAILABLE TO U AND COST TO YOU PERSONALLY FOR YOUR STAY..as seen in the Application form?]

He also picked holes in his statement of account- unusual lodgements- 500,000 (3 diff times) totally 1,500,000,all from companies owned by my friend which he did not explained. (He actually loaned 1 million to one of the companies, which is covered by an IOU agreement and 500,000 to the 2nd one covered by the company's special resolution accepting the loan and an IOU agreement. What actually happened was that the money was repaid back to his personal account in 2 tranches for the 1st coy and 500k borrowed to the 2nd coy was also repaid with cheque, at different times around Feb to March for both coys, he applied for the visa in April.

VISA OFFICER concluded that he doesn't think he can carry the family expenses for the visit or that they will come back.

MY FRIEND'S SIDE OF THE STORY:
- His montly salary is abt 110k

- His annual total remuneration (including salary) is abt 4.5 million

- As at April, his has been paid abt 2.5 million of that total amount (including Jan to April salary)

- My friend did not disclose his company existence since he is a dormant director for now and earns nothing from the Companies. His personal statement of acct reflected the names of the companies when the coys repaid on the loan he borrowed them around Feb/March from the coy's account and cheque.

- He could borrow out the funds then because he did not have a present need for it then.

- My friend's monthly payslip is not a true reflection of all the monies he earned from his employer annually

- Visa officer did not aver his mind to 750k and 800k allowances that was credited to his account by his employer in January. (Out of which he loaned his companies)

- He has a very good job and he intends to go for his 2013 annual leave in June-July, 2013, not to run away. 2 lands in Abuja, A jeep and membership of ICAN, wouldnt leave all that to run to UK.

WHAT WE HAVE ADVISED HIM TO DO:
- Reapply a fresh application for the whole family, now explaning with additional cover letter( reasons for repplying being so that he can still make his annual leave holiday in June), analysis of his statement of acct, stamped and sealed IOU agreement, special resolution accepting the loan. addition of land documents, vehicle documents etc

- appeal the refusal which the visa officer says is limited to the grounds referred to in section 84(1)(c) of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 (which will take time and he will not be able to use this year's annual leave to travel with his family)

Note: the documents he submitted were not in contention.

YOUR TAKE ON THE ISSUES: Kindly let your advise pour in on the way you think he should go and also drop any other idea you have on a probable way to go. Pick the issues one by one and kindly be specific on your responses.
