FamilyHow Long Will You Wait? by WebMonk(op): 12:10pm On Sep 20, 2007
i was watching a Nigerian movie "All my life" (Zach Orji, Omotola and Someone else i can't remember). The Brief Sypnosis: A prince weds a beautiful girl, but cannot assume the throne because he has no heir to succeed him. Time is running out, as he is given a year to produce a child. In depseration, he marries the girl's sister, who (-you guessed it, you think films these days could be a little bit unpredictable) becomes pregnant. The first wife demands a child as well, and before you know it, they try again and she's pregnant as well. Well, you know how the rest goes.

So the question for you folks: Why all the stress for people in marriages with no children, that makes them take (ahem!), DRASTIC MEASURES?

Note to Seun: If there already is a thread for this kindly indicate so. Thanks

your nairaland name is echidimme and your yim is jim4ray.i know because you've been sending me offline messages.i would have just dealt with you in my own way without bringing it here but i think it's better this way.i don't know who u are and i don't care.if u come online and propose marriage to a girl u don't know then i think your own illiteracy is beyond redemption.and why all the name calling just because i said no?at first i thot u were just one of those fools but now i really do think u need to visit a psychiatrist.i won't tell u to stop sending me those things u call messages because it's very obvious that u are jobless, what i will not take from u is the name calling.if your mother was is a slut and gave birth to u as a bastard that is obviously not my business, am warning u for the very last time because believe me u will be shocked at the next thing i'll do to u, ANUOFIA.
My My My! Why go through all that stress, when you can just place him in your ignore list? The you won't hear from him again

Oi! Ludicruos! LOL

But to the issue @ hand, there's an unwritten rule that says "you can't date someone i've dated before"(Question for you folks: i've only seen this in movies of people in high school in western countries, so could i be right in saying it's a western practice?). Bullshit. If you dump breakup with someone, who gave you the right to dictate who he/she should date? - See where i'm coming from?

But we're dealing with human nature (which is bound to be irreversibly irrational and stupid due to emotions at times), so she has to decide between her best friend or the guy.

When it boils down to it, it's that simple. QED

That's because some girls like bad boyz

But some women prefer nice guys. . .so they aint out of luck yet wink
Iice, Could you refer me to a recent statistic? Cause last time i checked, the last nice lady i knew CHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNGED (she got heartbroken, and the rest is history). Compared to a hot chick i knew in my naive days who told me i was "Too GOODY SHOES for her", even though i knew she liked me on some level

In my opinion, i think most of the ones that like nice guys are those unexposed. But i can't generalize.

If a guy is nice to the point where the lady can say "SHE's my best friend", well you get the idea

RomanceRe: Are We Becoming Too Vain? by WebMonk(m): 1:26am On Sep 11, 2007
Well, lets see:

1: Bad examples: One major cause of people being rebellious is that fact that the qualities that were drummed into their heads since childbirth were always broken/debased by those they looked up to in the society. Not wanting to be anything close to a hypocrite, they subconsciously become rebelious (there are other factors, yes) - Think more like "Daddy and house help were doing what Mummy and Uncle used to do when Daddy and house help are not around" - you get the drift

2: No were to turn: Proper education. As Sex is always an uneasy topic, the parents leave it to school, completing forgetting that school is also made up of - you guess it - Adults who have difficulty treating the issue. The result? Conveying the impression that Sex and anything related is a taboo that shouldn't be discussed beyond the curriculum - curiosity points them into the wrong direction. Afterall, Nobody told them that Sex is part of a way bigger picture.ADD to that the fact that our High School/Universities besides redundant education are nothing more than a popularity contest (Hierarchy out of nothing but looks, and anything rebellious, which includes sex appeal), and Pressure groups, need i say more?

3:Media: Sex sells, from everywhere to everything: Movies, Banners, Adverts, Series, Clothing, Shoes. Add to it Mills and Boon, and anything else u can recall, and before she/he is 17 she/he has an encyclopedia on everything about sex - ALL IN THE WRONG PERSPECTIVE, SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING CONSTRUCTED OUT OF NOTHING. Maybe she/he will find the truth very very late in life, after many "laid" instances, and probably hate our generation for poor guidance. That leaves us with 4,

4. Good o karma: Somehow, the lessons one generation learns is always lost on the next. It's that cycle that somehow makes sense why we are still making all the stupid mistakes over again. And let's not forget the new problem particular to every generation (like lesbianism, Open marriage, No strings attached, Players, etc)

Hope i didn't dive too far left/right. Over to you?

i have a toshiba satelite
theres a design issue with the fans. is your laptop hot.dos very hot air blow out of the fan vent?
if you run process exploere, do u see 'DPCs(deferred procedure calls) ' taking up to 70% CPU?
does the laptop shutdown at random.?
if so, you need to fix your fan
I also have a satellite too. Like someone above said, it's mostly your ram.
But eventually, windows becomes a b***h at some beyond "too long" that you have no choice BUT TO BACKUP/REFORMAT UR SYSTEM

it's usually the most drastic/reliable cure for sys low performance

You'll fall in love with ur system all over again (, and again, and again, again, grin)

my2cents:
Lessons:
1) For clients, always know who you are dealing with. Get references directly from other clients of the webmaster. Don't just go off of a portfolio page.

2) For webmasters, always be there for your client. You never know who he/she will refer you to.

3) The cheapest solution doesn't always necessarily pay. When the client told me how much they paid for the .com, in my mind, I immediately said to myself, "no wonder".

Just thought I should share.
Very true. but the problems with 2 are what really piss me off. i'm serving, juggling my freelance carreer, and STILL trying to scout for other clients. ADD bad internet service, no light, and what ever life can find its hands on to throw at you. But, like u said once "thats what you're paid for" *Sighs* sad

nice piece though

RomanceRe: Why Test @ The 11th Hour? by WebMonk(op): 5:44pm On Sep 09, 2007
crazykid:
I think it would continue to remain that way (Test @ The 11th Hour). You see my dear friend; it’s not easy to approach a girl; and the first thing on your mind is you asking her to go for an HIV test. It would look more like an insult to her because according to her she would see you as someone who thinks she’s a cheap street girl or perhaps a prostitute.

That’s why you have condoms which serve as temporary protection until you two decide to cross the bridge, then you can ask her to go for a test.

Hope what I said made sense to you?
I get you. But still, sad

Now that i think about it, it's still a gamble. It's just that when people say they would "peel out" because someone defaulted a test, they accuse them of not being "faithful" or "truly in love". One of my mother's friends married her husband, and they were both AS/AS. Out of three, they have one child as a sickler (SS). And whenever i look at this child, i think "Why go through it?" (Ironically, it's made their marriage stronger - weird, truth IS stranger than Fiction)

I guess it boils down to a gamble (Make una pray you no jam that kin situation e no FUNNY AT ALL!)
RomanceWhy Test @ The 11th Hour? by WebMonk(op): 4:24pm On Sep 08, 2007
it has always bothered me. Maybe there's something i don't know that someone can tell me?

Normal case scenario: Man meets woman, they hit it off. Things are rosy, things get steamy, they're convinced they're meant for each other. they get engaged, then they go for "testing" (Medical test, genotype, whether you have HIV or not, you get the idea)

It's been bugging me why would 2 people go through all that drama and high maintenance (in this case, being extra careful because the relationship gets stronger everyday), only to do something like testing after, like the 11th hour? Doesn't make sense to me. More like they should do the testing when they have in mind that what they have is going to be serious.I've heard of many people (real people) whose lives changes when someone "failed" a test, hence posts like "what if she/he is HIV and you're engaged" and so on

But i haven't crossed that bridge. What do you think?

(I'm not referring to "boy-girl" relationships. Notice the use of "Man" and "Woman"wink
RomanceRe: My Younger Brother Greatest Surprise: His Girlfriend Was Not A Virgin! by WebMonk(m): 4:09pm On Sep 01, 2007
To tell u the truth i am sick and tired of all this "Tear Rubber" chick search. The guy that wanted the thing, is he a virgin?
Ok, let's say NO. If he couldn't wait till marriage, what makes him expect someone else to do it (This isn't the rule, it's an exception)

If a guy's not a virgin, they say it's not a big deal. But when its a lady, the society slams the hammer before she can blink. Would he still have continued the relationship with her even if she was a virgin when he did her that night?Abi he dey vex cause he no be the 1st? angry

Yes, the girl lied, because she didn't want to lose him (Which was wrong). But is he having a relationship with her or whats "in between". If it's the first, then he shouldn't make it a huge deal. if it's the second, grin

Secondly, people are different. There are some Vs who act shy and inexperienced the first time, and some Vs who know d entire anatomy (yes, being a V doesn't have to mean being ignorant) and are (let me use his own words) FREE. They've been going 4 a yr!

he should just be sincere with himself
(Disclaimer: On no account should any opt to meet me with Gunz blazin, cause i've got more amour than Rambo himself) grin
Technology MarketRe: Laptop Sellers: The GPU Also Matters! by WebMonk(m): 4:46pm On Aug 29, 2007
its about time people started taking GPU capabilities of systems/laptops seriously. I've been a craze man for GPUs over time and will freely post my 2cents:

Things to look out for in a GPU

- Brand (Very Important)
The brand almost says it all, because the 2 top producers of graphics cards are listed below:

NVIDIA: www.nvidia.com/
ATI: http://ati.amd.com/

Anything other these two on your system/laptop is a ripoff in quality and support (I've used both over 3 years)

- Specs:
VRAM (Video Ram) - Seperate from the CPU Ram, this usually comes in DDR3 format. The more RAM, the better. Look for nothing less than 128MB Dedicated

The rest mostly depend on the Brand you're looking for. I'll add more as soon as i have the time

WARNING! NEVER BUY A LAPTOP WITH AN "SIS" GRAPHICS CARD! NEVER EVER!

It was an Open party somewhere in Lagos, more like a garden area with plastic chairs and tables.
We were 4 on a table, and there was this chick that was IT (was 12 and naive back then). We made contact vibing was good. Then she started approaching us. I got nervous, while my pals made matters worse by telling me how her father was this and that. So i tried dissipatiing the nervousness by drinking while looking at her. Then it happened - I unwittinly attempted to drink a malt drink with the cap after it was opened, pouring on my white shirt! shocked

F**KING EMBARRASSING!

xjovial:

Nothing really wrong there except that the closeness shouldnt be soo much, You know, tempations are bound to happen, Be careful.
cheers wink wink wink wink
I used to believe in that but now i think more like "don't go near fire if you don't want to get burnt"

It might not be same for everybody, but for some, why go through all the closeness/semi intimacy when you know SHE ISN'T YOURS

i replied to this topic because THAT I EXACTLY WHAT I'M GOING THROUGH. I eventually got too comfortable with this chick (chatting with, joking with, you feeling free telling any thing). She's now SO Comfortable that she tells me the color of her bra and undies every day. shocked. And she still wants us to be close friends. Isn't that torture? cry

Now i want more than friendship, but she has a guy, and something tells me i'll always be a second fiddle.

So don't. Best be platonic and keep it at that.

Hi guys,

What will u do if u are in his shoes,
He's been scared of getting married bcus of unfaithfulness and finally he got someone who he can trust.
Alas, to his sharp amazement two days to their wedding he saw his princess charming in the hotel room with his boss.

Real guys @ home what will u do
Girls are welcome on board too
Please be real
Thats a tough one!
But what i believe is this: SIGNS

there will always be signs before a catastrophe happens. take it as God's blessing whenever we stray away.

I mean, think about it. When you're supposed to be HIGH from getting married, thinking ways of "consumerating the marriage" and planning your honeymoon, and then 2 days later she's with his Boss?

When things like this happen, you find out that if the person thinks about it from the beginning, as they say, "the scales fell of his eyes"

SIGNS
RomanceRe: Ladies: Is It Compulsory To Do Shakara? by WebMonk(m): 5:17pm On Aug 05, 2007
Whatever floats your boat.

But if yes, a little shakara (or a lot of it, your choice really), isn't bad, more like better. A straight answer sometimes (before i'm accused of generalizing) gives the guy two impressions: either you're uptight (if your reply was a "no" like you should care), or you're cheap (if a "yes"wink. Guys usually like it if you play hard to get (guess that's how we're wired grin)

But the above scenario is if there some level of acquaintance prior to him asking you out.

lolly1815:
but my girls always tell me to tell him that i'll think about it even if i have my answer already. isn't it kind of childish to do shakara for the guyhuh
if it's a no, i think you should tell him straight. (sadly, many think a girl's "no" means "yes"wink huh
TV/MoviesRe: Gladiator Vs 300 by WebMonk(m): 6:27pm On Aug 04, 2007
nice topic you have here. but i think we shouldn't stray too far from the topic: Maximus{gladiator} Vs Leonidis Spartan King{300}

if it was just gladiator vs 300 then it's fine by me. but the above (if they acted it), e hard o! it would be bloody (i stand by 300' side)
RomanceRe: Romance, Romance, Romance! Why? by WebMonk(m): 6:13pm On Aug 04, 2007
i'm trying to remember who i heard this from, but he said in his own words

"To me, romance is simply demonstrating to
a woman/man that this whole encounter and ‘relationship’ with him/her is meaningful.
It’s a way of saying “I want to create a great experience for you” to
him/her. If you play up the romance too much (that's the guy), you’ll push a button inside of a
woman called “He loves me and wants to marry me.” So be careful."

Whenever i think of romance, i think of this. Anyone with me? did you notice that i put woman/man, him/her? it should be both ways
