overated13: Hello, I would like to make enquiry for my fiance. She is a Medical Doctor presently doing her Internship in one of the Teaching Hospitals. Please, she is considering doing her residency training in US as adviced by her mum. We've talked about it and have agreed on it. I want to know the steps, exams to be written, possibilities etc. Thanks a lot. God bless you all The USMLE steps 1 to 3 is the licensing exam to pass before u can practice in the US. Step 1 can be done in Ghana. I think step 2,and definitely step 3 can only be done in the US. So u see it presents some difficulty. I think it's advisable to go for a master's program first, and then take all d exams while u are there. |

@Obidike Jr, A Community college greatly reduces your chances of getting a Visa at the US embassy. You might wanna look into that and apply to a Uni to start with. |

dolapobello1: Today, I awoke to febrile paroxysms (a series of chills and fevers which is a diagnostic characteristic of malaria). Why today? Why on this very special day when I was to write my GRExam? Anyways, I dragged myself to the Prometric centre, head pounding, eye throbbing. I must say, I feel like giving Syahboy a punch in the gut for making the Quantitative section seem so easy- That stuff is trickier than ingesting 'ogbono' with chopsticks. At a point, I started misreading on the Verbal section. I got stuck for like 3 minutes pondering over a word that looked like 'altristic'. Alas, it was 'artistic'. In all, I thank God. His name really is a. Stron tower. I managed to score 158 in the Quantitative Section and 164 in the Verbal Section. I would like the gurus to suggest schools that could match this profile. I'm looking at a PhD in Biology. I should also add that I had an Undergraduate GPA of 4.60 on a scale of 5. Thanks in advance... Fantastic score! Congrats mehn! All the grammar you been dey blow in this house paid off you should be able to get into the top programs with that score and your GPA. U really sabi book. All the best bro |

I went to Jaja bro, do I need to take any vaccine or should just get note that I'm ok. I still need a document to show the school you know? Please take the vaccines if u haven't taken them before. Its cheap and beneficial. Once vaccinated, you'll be given d documentation needed |

foohard: Hello House,
I went to University of Ibadan hospital to get the required vaccines for my school. The nurses where telling to go and buy some vaccines from chemist outside. Is that what is required? They were like they have some they would give me but I have to buy some outside.
Is that how it is done? because me was thinking they would run some test on me and give me a note to show the school that I am ok bla bla bla...
Please throw some light on this.. What vaccines do u wanna take? Is it Jaja clinic u went to or UCH? Just giving notes to say u're Ok is insufficient.UCH would have all d vaccines u need. |

gr8ever: International students are not eligible for U.S. federal student loans. However, international students do have the opportunity to apply for private education loans.
HSPH have Supplemental Loan Programs
International student are eligible to apply for supplemental loans, Supplemental loans are not packaged automatically and are considered self-initiated requests. Hope this helps.
Why are you doubting prof OjaP and baba imperiouxx? Thanks a lot for this is info! Private education loan is still a loan nau. I know US federal loans are not for intl students. It all makes sense now. I no doubt Ojap and Imperiouxx o, na dem be our baba for this E-family just wanted to be enlightened. |

OjaP: Didn't you just say a co-signer? Case closed.
Even at that, you can only get bank loans and not the usual US education student loans that come from schools financial aid department's which is the subject of discussion. To be able to qualify for that, you must be a citizen or permanent resident. No exception.
And this will actually be my first time of reading it anywhere that schools give out loans, those schools must be very rich then. Well, I don't have all the info but I do know that some students on this thread have funded their studies via loans. How did they go about it? |

Amefrica: LOANS are strictly for CITIZENS, ASYLEES AND LAWFUL PERMANENT RESIDENTS.. Not for INT'L STUDENTS.. No Sir.From what I have gathered, if you have a co-signer who is a credit-worthy US citizen or permanent resident, you will get a loan even as an international student. |

foohard: Hello House,
I am seriously disturbed. the sponsor agency got me ticket for 23rd but my place of work refused to release me. I was told to change the booking to next week so that the committee can meet and decide if I'd be granted a study leave for the program. You know how government handle things, they may still now hold the meeting next week as promised.
I am going to study in USA on scholarship, My wife is a nurse in the USA and very comfortable.. The fair of the unknown is making me have a second thought. The only option I have now is to resign and pay 1month salary in lieu if I want to use the friday ticket given to me by the agency.
Do you think its worth starting afresh in the USA. I work for Federal Government here and still hope to work for Federal Government later in future when I return to Nigeria.
I need your candid advice on this issue.. Thanks alot. If I were in your shoes, I'd resign and pay one month salary in lieu. By the time I return from USA, I'l be like hot cake for the government or better still the private sector. I don't think you should have a problem getting a good job when you get back. Your decision also depends on when u resume your studies. My Opinion sha. |

samnoah: House, I just checked the date on my last toefl and I discovered it was 17th of June 2011. I'm thinking it will still be valid for 2014 fall admission so I will just focus on re-writing my GRE alone. Also, my details are: Undergrad GPA 3.87/5.0 (already evaluated by WES to be 3.3/4.0) and Master's(U.I) currently on 6.4/7.0(after two semesters, remaining the computation of the last semester results which I trust God to be fine as well) (1.) Will I be fine with that toefl (scored 87) (2.) Is applying to schools like cornell, UMBC, SYRACUS, U. WASHINGTON, U. CALIFORNIA BERKELEY ok for my details?
NB: I'm applying for PhD in Information Science (my Master's also was in this) Your TOEFL is expired my guy. Na just two years o. You'll have to retake it,moreover,a score of 87 is too low for PhD admission. I believe the schools you are applying to are top notch but u might wanna include some lower ranked schools just in case it doesn't work out with the ones listed. All the best bro |
