The Niger Delta is the delta linking the River Niger to the Atlantic ocean. These are only 3 states namely Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states.

The political deltas were created by politicians as a means of distributing oil monies or derivation among oil producing states.

Abacha and Babangida created OMPADEC comprising 6 states namely Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers states. When Obasanjo came on board in 1999, he added 3 more states, namely Abia, Imo and Ondo and renamed the commission Niger Delta Development Commission.

Below is the 13% derivation for the first half of last year which reflect the percentage of oil produced by the states of the NDDC. Abia and Imo states contribution is less than 3%

Ojukwu never believed in the Biafra cause. He was born, bred and died a Nigerian. The Biafran struggle was thrust on him, being the most senior igbo military officer left after the July 1966 coup, and he had the obligation to save his people from genocide in the north. He abandoned the Biafran struggle as soon as the war was over, and came back to fight for his father's properties in Nigeria.

I have said it again and again, I doubt the new corona virus would be a problem for us in this part of Africa, as we have never had problems with the flu virus and other flu like viruses. Non of the other corona viruses had really had impact on us in the past.

If we are vulnerable, I am sure it would have been at our shores already, as the test kits to even test for the virus only arrived last week.

I am not saying we should get complacent though and not protect ourselves.

Forget abortion? You think it's easy moving on with life as single parent without help from the father or family? You are just speculating on the future without know the background of the lady. It the lady that can understand her situation and make the best decision.

Even though I am strongly pro abortion, I will not advice to rush into it in this case.

First the lady is 29 years, she would be 30 by the time she birth the baby. Time is not exactly on her side. Finding a husband and giving birth becomes increasingly difficult as women age.

Secondly, since the guy acknowledge he is the owner of the pregnancy, and he did not demand an abortion, it means at least he will take some responsibility. Even if he does not marry the lady, he should help in financial matters concerning the raising of the child.

Thirdly, the pregnancy is getting bit too old. After 8 weeks, the procedure will be a bit more traumatic that at say 4 weeks. I prefer that a woman should make up their minds early enough.

Four, how will the pregnancy affect her job or career? Is she in school? who will cater for her and the pregnancy before and after birth, ie prenatal, birth and post natal expenses?

The final decision lies with the lady, she is the one that will suffer the consequences of the pregnancy, and she is the one that will care and raise the baby.

The main construction of the Second Niger Bridge will cost N210bn, the Federal Government announced on Friday.


It also stated that the construction work of the bridge would be awarded in about two months’ time as the memo for its procurement would be sent to the Bureau of Public Procurement next week.

The main bridge, which has a length of 1.59 kilometres, forms part of the 11.9km length of the entire Second Niger Bridge project that comprises four sections namely: Asaba road, toll plaza, bridge and Onitsha road.

The bridge links Delta and Anambra states, but the entire road project traverses a lot of communities in these states.


The Director of Highways, Bridges and Design, Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Sogbesan Adetokunbo, stated that the activities currently ongoing at the project site were mainly early works, adding that the construction of the main bridge would soon commence.

When asked what it would take to complete the main bridge and the projected completion date, Adetokunbo replied, “It should be completed within two years and the cost to do this at the current rate is about N210bn. Please note that this is for the main bridge work.”

He emphasised that the procurement for the main bridge would start soon and that a memo on it would be sent to the Federal Executive Council for approval, after getting a no objection response from the BPP.

Providing a brief history of the project, Adetokunbo said, “ Early works 1 to 3 have been completed. Early work 1 comprises the design of the road, soil investigation, preliminary drawing and final engineering drawings. Early works 2 and 3 are at the Asaba end, while early work 4, which is ongoing, is at the Onitsha end.

“So, early works 1, 2 and 3 are 100 per cent completed, while early work 4 is about 45 per cent completed. But the main work, which is the main bridge, is at the point of procurement. The estimates have been concluded, a memo has been written to the BPP for no objection, and thereafter, a memo will be sent to FEC for approval.”
