calabardick:To me having a child you can't take care of is worse sin than abortion. It's absurd to insist on "keep the pregnancy" when the guy have to consult his family even to have a small engagement . I cry when I see videos of thousands upon thousands of almajiris line up the streets of kano. I had the same situation with someone close to me. She got admitted into the Navy but discovered she was pregnant for her boyfriend before the training. The boyfriend also insisted on keeping the baby and going to the family to do "small introduction". I advice her to terminate the pregnancy, since it's is the early days. Early stage pregnancy are relatively safe than late term pregnancy. Recommended a gynecologist from a reputable hospital (most gynaecologists perform abortions, but it's very expensive and off the books). It was done without out any issue whatsoever. She completed her training, got into the Navy, went for a university degree while still in the Navy and has been promoted rapidly since. See got married late last year and expecting their first baby this april. Imagine where she would have been if she had the baby and the good for nothing guy came to do the small engagement. I am sure sufferings would have been the portion of both mother and child. We must learn to be pragmatic and don't get obsessed by this moral religious self righteousness. Here is a video of the shear number of almajiris in northern nigeria. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gekDdJzxFbQ Anyone that don't feel the pain and sufferings of unwanted children does not have empathy. |
seankafor:I also love the igbos for their never say die spirit and their entrepreneurial spirit. Their greatest undoing is the lack of a recognisable unifying leader. The igbos don't like being subservient to a single leader, which is a huge disadvantage in negotiating in politics both nationally and internationally. This is why there is no single demand or goal, but multiple. Besides, who do you negotiate with? Kanu and his group want secession, the politicians wants federal power and influence, the traditional leaders want restructure and resource control. As had been asked before, why can the fives states come together and solve some pressing problems like road, power, and security? Why can't they organize and create their own Amotekun? |
sunnysmile80:How many times can I like this post? I give 1000 likes. You hit the nail on the head and then nail the coffin, Dead and buried, nothing more to add. A no sex before marriage romantic relationship sounds absurd. Why not ask your parents to arrange the marriage as in the days of old, you meet on the day of the marriage or just before and then have sex on your wedding night? In laws outside the bedroom waiting for the blood stained bedsheets and all. How exactly do you agree to enter into a no before marriage relationship? I see a fine lady and I approach her with the usual toasting lines like, hello In response the girls says, I have noticed you too and I think you are responsible and cute too. I agree, let's give it a try, but.... no sex before you marry me. Or will the girl agree to a relationship, but later give her conditions when the guy want to kiss and press something? |
Brightgem:See person talking about intellectual capacity. A person whose claim to dignity is only in her virginity (that's even assuming she is one). You think you are more successful, educated or more intelligent that Mia Khalifa? In terms of money (or prosperity as you guys like to call it), she is worth over $3 million. How much are you worth? In terms of relationships, she is currently engaged to a celebrity chef, to be married this summer. You can bet the marriage will be a media event. I am not exactly supporting or promoting mia khalifa's lifestyle, what I am against is imposing your morals and beliefs on others. I used her to show an example of 'who will marry you will marry you, virgin or not.' |
KingEzo:Abeg explain the redded quote for me, what do you mean by "I told her that she should give me some time so that I can go and discuss with my parents and organize introduction then do the engagement in a little way?" How much time do you need to discuss with your parents and then organize introduction ? Introduction for god sake, not even marriage. So the lady is supposed to suspend her education and career while waiting for you to propose engagement. If I am the girls parents, I would personally contact a very competent gynecologist and flush out the fetus. And then threaten to disown my daughter, if she as much as answer a phone call from the useless guy. |
Brightgem:So to you a woman's dignity is tied to whether she is a virgin or not? That's 1st century mindset. In the 21st century where women chart their own destinies without depending on men, their dignity is tied to their character, education and career. Those that feel their dignity is tied to their virginity better become a nun. Even Mia Khalifa married a young successful bachelor. |
pryme:You get husband for her? I hope you know that women have "best before date", it becomes increasingly difficult for women to find husband's (not to talk of child bearing difficulties) after her early 30's. There are many mid age ladies running from church to church looking for miracle husband and miracle of Sarah. |
franzis:No mind them. Oloshos de see husband before these pretending "holy mary" sisters. If you want fvck the guy, fvck him. If you don't want to fvck him, then leave him. It's wrong using sex as a condition for marriage. Sex before or after marriage does not determine a successful marriage. Your character and your other inate values that determines whether he marries you or the marriage is successful. |
Trump obviously hates Obama for reasons best known to him. Throughout the Obama presidency, Trump attacked Obama, both in person and his policies. It even got worse after he became president. Hardly a day goes by without Trump mentioning Obama. Some say it's due to jealousy, as Obama is as popular in the US as Trump himself. In the survey that came out last week they were tied on popularity. Outside the US, it a no contest, outside maybe Saudi Arabia and Israel, Obama is almost worship in foreign countries, while Trump is hated. The straw that broke the camels back was when Mitchell Obama was voted the most admired woman in the world, when his wife Melania did not even register on the scale. So you can understand how furious Trump must have been as he spent most of his speech on the Iran's missile attacked on US based criticizing Obama. He blame Obama for everything except launching the missiles itself. I want to show a video where Obama took on Trump while he was still president. He threw jibes at Trump's in a cool calculated and intelligent manner. Obama is a master orator. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eJpWOY3r18 |
Dpharisee:Why are you comparing grapes to grapefruit? You mean south east governors, traditional rulers and political leaders set up a security outfit and Yorubas people reacted negatively? |
9jahotblog:Good development, I have been wondering what the Yorubas are waiting for all these years, allowing fulani herdsmen to take over their lands while all they do is wail. If the Hausa fulani north can form HISBAH Police and impose sharia law on non muslims, then the Yorubas (and igbos) has a right to form AMOTEKUN police and enforce a cow ban on Yoruba lands and restrict the movement of fulani herdsmen. I don't understand how the Hausa Fulanis and thing they can impose one law in northern Nigeria and deny the same law in southern Nigeria. |
But here someone threatened to go to Abuja and bring Buhari's head on a plate. The same people that condemned the attempt to arrest the person are the same people that support the arrest of someone threatened to kill Trump. It a wonder how they can switch on and off their cognitive ability at will. |
falopey:And you think Trump did not save face? This is what Trump said just one day before the attacks; “Let this serve as a WARNING that if Iran strikes any Americans, or American assets, we have.... targeted 52 Iranian sites, some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture, and those targets, and Iran itself, WILL BE HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD,” Trump never specify American lives, he said any Americans or American interests. I said it from the beginning, the crisis is all demo, to whip up emotional sentiments. Both Trump and Khomeini's popularity were waning at home and both need an audio crisis to rally the people around their leader. Both Trump and Khomeini are not ready to fight an actual war, the proxy war is achieving all their aims. I became convinced Trump does not want to fight a war, after the Iranians shot down a US drone about 3 months ago. Trump threatened fire and brimstone (as usual) but stood down because over 150 Iranian (not american) lives will be involved. |
I said it before the crisis started, it's all demo. The US nor Iran are not interested in a war. Khomeini and Trump are very unpopular at home and both need to generate a crisis to look tough and unite against a "common enemy". It worked perfectly for Khomeini as the country is now United and people have forgotten their grievances. About Trump, I am not so sure. Democrats and independents are still skeptical about the reasons for assassinatiing Soleimani, and Trump's approval ratings has not moved from its traditional 40 to 45%. Most Nigerians don't understand international politics and how leaders use their lives to play chess. |
Daviddson:You have time to be educating people who choose to remain ignorant. They think the US military will deploy already trained soldiers to the front lines. During the gulf wars, some Nigerian youth that got US citizenship were deployed to Iraq less than 6 months after becoming citizens. Besides the recruits through draft, retired veterans would be called as reserves to man positions left by soldiers deployed overseas, or you think US will leave itself undefended because it is fighting a war overseas. |
Randy100:So says an ignorant person residing in a remote corner of africa. The real Americans are afraid that a war with Iran can lead to a draft. US government agency website crashes amid panic over military draft |
lurex2rhyme:You people can argue off point. What concerns Buhari wanting to take 70 people to the UN with the refusal of US to grant Iranian foreign minister visa to attend the UN? Are we talking about the number of people the foreign minister want to take to the UN? |
Randy100:False. There is so much arrogance in ignorance being shown on nairaland. During a war, all able bodied men between 18 and 25 are drafted into the military. It is called the draft and it is compulsory. You are given an 8 week military training and sent of to the war front. Trump, a young athlete, avoided the Vietnam draft by having a doctor diagnose him with bone spurs. |
PatriotTemidayo:If his hands are not dirty, how come his wife could not explain to US authorities how she came about $16 millions? |
emeijeh:And there are no lots of billionaires (in dollars ) here? |
specco:China or Russia. US has only been the world's superpower for less than a 100 years, Rome was the world's super power for close to 500 years. Greece was the world's super power for more than 700 years. |
lurex2rhyme:Then you and Trump are telling us that because the UN is housed in the US, then the US is the UN. |
wowcatty:The UN is useless and yet has been able to keep the world relatively peaceful for over 70 years. Without the UN, I am sure the world would have experienced a nuclear armageddon, which you most likely will not survive. Remember the role the UN played in averting a nuclear war between the US and Russia in the 1962 Cuban missile crisis. Remember what led to the formation of the UN after the failure of the league of nations. Trump and his supporters can be arrogant and destroy the UN because it feels it has amassed deadly weapons. But when a world war starts even the US will suffer. |
emmachukwu99:So you expect Iranian foreign minister to pose a threat to the US, between JFK airport, the UN building and the Iranian embassy a few meters away, for the one or 2 days that he will be in new York. Since you say Iran is a threat to the US, why has Trump not expel all Iranian diplomats and close down their embassy in the US? |
MrMcJay:The Iranian minister is not interested in going to US, he is interested in going to the UN. The UN just happened to be in the US. |
madridsta007:Will the representative be an official of the Iranian government or a random Iranian picked from the streets? This move has destroyed the very basis of why the UN was created. The UN was supposed to discuss issues of conflict between members to avoid going to war. It was created after WW2. So how can Iran present it's grievances to the world, and have an opportunity to discuss with the US if it cannot even enter the UN because, it is housed by US? The UN general assembly needs to be moved to a less war hungry country like Switzerland or it be scrapped altogether. |
SpecialAdviser:Religion itself is a useful tool for political domination. Christianity also employed violence during the middle ages and during colonisation. Now they use more subtle means. Many people dont know the origin of the killing of Soleiman. Iran has been planting shia militia proxies to somount Sunni militias. Then they started bombing American interests. It's all about projecting national interests. The US project national interests by arming and training various governments or sections within the government and label them allies -ie Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Iraq. Iran uses religion, they support Shia groups, and then train and arm them to promote their own interests. Since both Iran and The US are trying to project their influence within the same space, clashes and conflicts are inevitable, and hence the proxy wars. Iran's proxies bombing US interests in the middle east, while US bomb Irans proxies and interests. So the war is all about Sunni vs Shia again.Part of it. Trump's bombing of an Iranian government official can be seen as a terrorist action. Iran has never targeted US officials. Yes, us soldiers (and iranian soldiers) and contractors die in the course of the proxy wars, but no direct confrontation had involved government officials. The US has no right to bomb Iranian general as there is no formal declaration of war. Even though the US and Iran are involved in a proxy war, the US and Iran are not at war, and the killing was not carried out in a battle field but at an airport. It's like the Iranian leaders ordering the bombing of the US joint chief of staff at the Mexican airport when he visits Mexico. The whole world would term that a terrorist action. |
Shibaraba:Which France and UK showing support? They are just being diplomatic. Nobody, not even Israel or Saudi Arabia (Irans worst enemies) supports the assassination of Soleimani. You think if Israel wanted to assassinate Soleimani, they would not have done it all these years? This is General Pompeo complaining about lack of support from Europeans - Pompeo: European response to Suleimani killing ‘not helpful enough’Trump is just trying to blackmail it's allies into a war with Iran |
nototribalist:Because everything Israel and the US affect Nigeria. As some Nigerians are ready to die for Israel's cause, others are ready to die for Iran or Saudi Arabia's cause. |
philip0906:You are just yarning rubbish. If Iran is completely useless, which country is completely useful then? Nigeria, Cameroon, Zimbabwe ? Iran/Iraq was the cradle of western civilization. We are not talking about sticking necks for them, let macron, Johnson or Merkel send troops to fight Iran on the side of the US and watch public reaction. Who do you think will allow his son or family member to go and fight a war solely started by Trump. |
kratosonofzeus:You people reason through your ass just to support all Trump's actions no matter how stupid it is. Trump and Pompeo are now bringing in utterly ridiculous excuses for the assassination. There was a 9/11 commission, that investigated everything related to the 9/11 attacks, they found zero links between saddam Hussein and Al qaeda, in fact he did not even allowed al qaeda in Iraq. Same with Soleimani, there was no link of Soleimani to all qaeda, in fact general Soleimani helped the US fight the Taliban in the early days of the Afghan war. |
philip0906:Forget support half heartedly support shown by the leaders of Germany, France and UK, their parliaments and people will not support a war with Iran instigated by Trump. Besides they all don't like Trump, they are only tolerating him as US president. These leaders have to play the balancing game. They can't show too much support for US because their people don't like Trump and they can show any support for Iran because that would annoy Trump. Remember, the US is still critical to the defense of Europe through NATO. |
