mvem:It's due to peer, family and societal pressures. In igboland, the competition to make it is very fierce. Respect and influence is accorded to those who can flaunt money and material things. If you do not have money or riches to flaunt, then you are looked down upon as a failure by all including your family. Your very junior brother who maybe just went to Malaysia some months back and brought a brand new Venza is elevated above you in terms of respect and influence in the family. So the motivation to go into crime to make it very fast is high. It's not that the problem is not found in other tribes, it's just that the pressures are more among igbos. |
GavelSlam:Gbam! You have said it all. Haiti, Congo, Niger, Liberia, Bangladesh are all far poorer than us, but you do not find their nationals disgracing themselves all over the world. The problem is our value system, which emphasize wealth acquisition any which way, and then flaunting this ill gotten wealth in order to gain respect in the society. Even our religious organisations, especially the churches promotes this value system. |
statusquoante:Throwing your hands up in defeat so soon. I thought you will scatter my arguments with your superior knowledge FYI, Jesus was the one speaking in Mark 12:26Mark12:26 ke? I thought we were talking about mark 12:36. You opined that Psalm 110:1 was referring to Jesus, you are know asking me who was saying those words. Can you put your thoughts together? Jesus might as well be reading from the Torah when making those statements. You are displaying the same dementia attributed to trump. Is it that infectious? |
statusquoante:Mr knowledge, please explain how this verse even remotely refer to jesus. Which LORD said unto which lord that he will make his enemies his footstool? I hope you know that in aristocratic societies, Kings are superior to lords. Mark 12:36Same as above Isaiah 9:6I do not also understand how this verse relate remotely to Jesus. Which government was ever upon jesus 's shoulder? Not the government of Rome, not the government of ancient Palestine and definitely not the government of Israel. I even thought you would say he would be named Emmanuel. To make matters worse the title Jesus christus was not given to him by his parents or called so when he was alive, he was given the title after his death Will you gerrout nowSo that is all you have mr. Intelligent. |
statusquoante:See who is talking about ignorance. Post it Mr knowledge. |
statusquoante:Just provide any verse anywhere in the old testament that mentioned anything related to Jesus Christ |
statusquoante:Watch this; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNa2g6xk_24 Every former white house official that had written a book or given an interview comfirms all that the video said about trump. |
statusquoante:Post them. |
statusquoante:Everyone, and I mean everyone that had entered the white house and gotten close to trump thinks he is loony. |
statusquoante:Verse and chapter please. You guys are legendary for quoting texts out of context. |
statusquoante:Trump ke? Trump that is mentally unstable that those closest to him are considering invoking the 25th amendment. |
statusquoante:I have time today for frivolity. Abeg which old testament personality made reference to him? |
INVINCIBLECSP:You failed to tell us what Solomon was selling or producing to make him rich, or did he inherit his wealth? Where is the evidence Solomon was that wealthy? Where is the temple of pure gold? At least gold lasts forever, the temple should be as it was built by Solomon. Besides how do you build a temple or house with pure gold, from foundation to roofing? Do you cast gold blocks and then use gold mortars and gold pillars? what about roof members? What technology can be employed to use metal (a soft one at that) to build a house. Maybe he built it like the way Elsa built her ice castle in Walt Disney"s frozen. There are some things that even my 4 year old would not be saying, that some supposedly educated adult are propagating. |
Bullshit post. Where and how did Mansa Musa acquire 415 billion dollars. What was even the economic worth of the whole world during his time, not to talk of the economy of Mali. What was he selling? Some will say he had gold. Where did he get the gold and who did he sell to? The one of Solomon is more ridiculous. 2.2 trillion dollars? Did he own all the gold, diamond and even crude in the whole world? What was the total economy of Israel worth at that time. An economy made up of poor Shepherds and normads, who lived in tents. Israel had no gold or diamond at that time or any other time and Solomon did not conquer more than a patch of ancient Palestine. What was even the population of the whole world 3000 years ago? It was roughly 10 million. The population of Solomon's Israel would not have been more than a few tens of thousands. If we are to equate wealth with conquest, then Alexander the great would be by far the richest, he conquered most of Europe, most of the middle east including Persia and all the way to India. Augustus Caesar did not conquer one third of the territories Alexander the great conquered. Also what will you say of Queen Elizabeth ii's father, king George iv, that at one time ruled over 53 countries of the world. To me Putin would be among one of the richest man that ever existed because he sits on top of Russia's vast oil and gas resources. |
statusquoante:Drinking alcohol is not against nature? Eating pork is not against nature? Where in nature do you find alcohol? What exactly is the use of alcohol in the body? Even eating of pork and meat as a whole is not natural for humans. We do not have the natural physical tools to eat and consume meat. We lack large canines and claws to tear and shred meat, our digestive system have problems digesting meat and our bowels, kidneys, arteries and veins have difficulty dealing with the by products of digested meat. |
statusquoante:Who are you that others cannot flaunt their deviant nefarious ways in your face? If you are disgusted by other people's deviant behaviour, you remove your eyes. Simple. You must an exaggerated sense of self importance for you to feel others must comform to your own acceptable behaviour. I now fully understand why ISIS or Boko Haram cannot stand others flaunting deviant behaviour in their sights. Learn to face your front. |
statusquoante:When did Trump abolish pro abortion laws? Which abortion law did trump abolish? Trump does not have any and mean any personal convictions, he tells his audience whatever they want to hear. When in front of Putin in Helsinki, he said " I have President Putin. He just said it’s not Russia. I will say this. I don’t see any reason why it would be ", When he got back to the US a fews days later he said he meant to say "I don’t see any reason why it would'nt be ". When trump was a Democrat or an independent he said concerning abortion, " I'm totally pro-choice ." Later that year in December, Trump similarly told reporters, "I want to see the abortion issue removed from politics. ... I believe it is a personal decision that should be left to the women and their doctors." But after he cross carpeted to republican in 2011, he said "I'm pro-life, which, you know, I think is a big social issue." In January, he told Bloomberg Business, "Very simple, I'm pro-life." - https://www.bustle.com/articles/90745-donald-trumps-stance-on-abortion-hasnt-been-as-consistent-as-his-trademark-hair I am sure if somehow trumps very dirty cupboard could be open, we would see many ladies that had commited abortions on his behalf, during his womanising playboy past. He is just pandering to his white Christian republican based. |
statusquoante:Abeg list one Christian value Trump upholds, just one. Unless of course Christian values in clue lying, fraud, adultery, racism. |
If Trump is elected for a second term, then I am certain the US will ceases to exist as we know it. It will gradually slip into a strong man dictatorship, the type we see in China, North Korea or Russia. |
Jay95:Blessed ke? Which curse is worse than earthquake Obasanjo? Which Tsunami is worse than Tsunami Jonathan? Which hurricane is worse than Hurricane Buhari? If just one of these " natural disaster" occurs in Japan, Japan will cease to exist. |
..... continue Take foreign policy: In public and in private, President Trump shows a preference for autocrats and dictators, such as President Vladimir Putin of Russia and North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, and displays little genuine appreciation for the ties that bind us to allied, like-minded nations. Astute observers have noted, though, that the rest of the administration is operating on another track, one where countries like Russia are called out for meddling and punished accordingly, and where allies around the world are engaged as peers rather than ridiculed as rivals. On Russia, for instance, the president was reluctant to expel so many of Mr. Putin’s spies as punishment for the poisoning of a former Russian spy in Britain. He complained for weeks about senior staff members letting him get boxed into further confrontation with Russia, and he expressed frustration that the United States continued to impose sanctions on the country for its malign behavior. But his national security team knew better — such actions had to be taken, to hold Moscow accountable. This isn’t the work of the so-called deep state. It’s the work of the steady state. Given the instability many witnessed, there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment, which would start a complex process for removing the president. But no one wanted to precipitate a constitutional crisis. So we will do what we can to steer the administration in the right direction until — one way or another — it’s over. The bigger concern is not what Mr. Trump has done to the presidency but rather what we as a nation have allowed him to do to us. We have sunk low with him and allowed our discourse to be stripped of civility. Senator John McCain put it best in his farewell letter. All Americans should heed his words and break free of the tribalism trap, with the high aim of uniting through our shared values and love of this great nation. We may no longer have Senator McCain. But we will always have his example — a lodestar for restoring honor to public life and our national dialogue. Mr. Trump may fear such honorable men, but we should revere them. - https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/05/opinion/trump-white-house-anonymous-resistance.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage |
I work for the president but like-minded colleagues and I have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations. President Trump is facing a test to his presidency unlike any faced by a modern American leader. It’s not just that the special counsel looms large. Or that the country is bitterly divided over Mr. Trump’s leadership. Or even that his party might well lose the House to an opposition hellbent on his downfall. The dilemma — which he does not fully grasp — is that many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations. I would know. I am one of them. To be clear, ours is not the popular “resistance” of the left. We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous. But we believe our first duty is to this country, and the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic. That is why many Trump appointees have vowed to do what we can to preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trump’s more misguided impulses until he is out of office. The root of the problem is the president’s amorality. Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making. Although he was elected as a Republican, the president shows little affinity for ideals long espoused by conservatives: free minds, free markets and free people. At best, he has invoked these ideals in scripted settings. At worst, he has attacked them outright. In addition to his mass-marketing of the notion that the press is the “enemy of the people,” President Trump’s impulses are generally anti-trade and anti-democratic. Don’t get me wrong. There are bright spots that the near-ceaseless negative coverage of the administration fails to capture: effective deregulation, historic tax reform, a more robust military and more. But these successes have come despite — not because of — the president’s leadership style, which is impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective. From the White House to executive branch departments and agencies, senior officials will privately admit their daily disbelief at the commander in chief’s comments and actions. Most are working to insulate their operations from his whims. Meetings with him veer off topic and off the rails, he engages in repetitive rants, and his impulsiveness results in half-baked, ill-informed and occasionally reckless decisions that have to be walked back. “There is literally no telling whether he might change his mind from one minute to the next,” a top official complained to me recently, exasperated by an Oval Office meeting at which the president flip-flopped on a major policy decision he’d made only a week earlier. The erratic behavior would be more concerning if it weren’t for unsung heroes in and around the White House. Some of his aides have been cast as villains by the media. But in private, they have gone to great lengths to keep bad decisions contained to the West Wing, though they are clearly not always successful. It may be cold comfort in this chaotic era, but Americans should know that there are adults in the room. We fully recognize what is happening. And we are trying to do what’s right even when Donald Trump won’t. The result is a two-track presidency. .......to continue |
Born2Breed:That is in theory. In reality military does not operate by civilian laws. The military officer would have to be dismissed from the service before he can be subject to civilian laws. Go to Alaba and ask traders their experiences at the hands of disgruntled military customers. |
Born2Breed:I am sure you would not be asking these questions if it was a military man involved. If you sold am item to a military man and he returns it a few days later asking for a replacement or refund, I am certain the faulty items would be replaced without any questions. |
8Ebisco:This serenio happens everytime in igbo dominated markets, once you pay for goods and take possession, and you later discover the item is faulty or not working, the igbo seller would claim that the item got damaged in your possession and so not due for replacement or refund. I have seen it happen so many times. One particular episode I witnessed at Osodi was pathetic, a guy bought a portable cassette /dvd player, I am sure it was tested hurriedly before payment. The guy paid and then went to a shop nearby to buy another item. He then decided to test the portable music player again and discovered some faults. He immediately went back to the shop to as for a replacement. The seller of the music player insisted that it was the buyer that damaged the music player. From the argument, a fight ensued. Other colleagues of the seller separated the fighting duo. At the end of the day, the colleagues supported the seller and told him the buyer that once he paid, he takes responsibility for the item. |
vaxx:You educate me on any topic? Joke of the century. You can never make sense not to talk of presenting any fact. All your arguments are ignorant emotional conjectures, that makes no sense to anyone. |
Shugavee:And you think it was homosexuals that gave birth to homosexual children? Or it was homosexual parents that turned their children into homosexuals. You may be surprised that most parents of gays are not aware their children are gays. You are yet to explain how having a president that is not homophobic ( not even gay) would make your children adopt nonsense. |
You are just talking jibberish. You are just jumbling words together without any sense. Are you sure you are not high on something? vaxx:What do you mean by supreme law of the federation? Is that not the constitution? So what then is absolute law. What does absolute law mean? Because no law is absolute, even the constitution can be changed. Constitutional law of the federation IN NIGERIA reject gayism and lesbianism and it subjected to 14 years imprisonment for anybody caught in this criminal act.,no state law can override this decision .The word gayismand lesbianism does not appear in our constitution. Please quote relevant sections rejecting gayism. The criminalization of homosexuality was done by the national assembly and not the constitution, it can be reversed by the courts. Narcotics stimulant control is under the eagles eyes of usa consitution and it has override California and other 16 state of the USA law which first legalized it.The states can argue that marijuana does not fall under Narcotics, just like some do not see caffeine, codeine and nicotine as Narcotics. Currently, 9 states in the US has legalized marijuana. The case would be settled at the supreme Court. When you violate constitutional act , you commit a crime against the federation. It is simple. Please go back to school and take basic law course, even for just a semester. |
Shugavee:And to you homosexuality will affect his ability to be a good president? No wonder Winston Churchill made the below quotes; "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter." - Winston Churchill |
Blue3k:Thanks for the link. We learn everyday. I still do not believe we are still living under such archaic law in the 21st century. A law enacted in 1916. This opening section made me laugh; Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990And we will boast of having a national assembly we pay billions to make laws. |
vaxx:I propose law should be made compulsory in Nigerian universities. To many Nigerians are ignorant of basic laws. There are three laws governing a citizen; the constitution, acts of the national assembly and edicts of state assemblies of respective states. The constitution is the supreme law. Any law made by either the national assembly or state assemblies that is in conflict with any provision of the constitution will be null and void by the courts. Marijuana is not in the US constitution. So any of the legislatures can legislate on it either way. Now, the national legislative (congress) can ban it while some state legislatures can legalize it. It would then be left for the courts to rule on who has rights to legislate on Marijuana. Such conflicts is sometimes very messy The bootlegging (alcohol ban) saga was very controversial and messy. Most times the Congress leaves such legislation to states. Issues like gays marriage, marijuana, alcohol are left to states. |
Blue3k:Abeg quote relevant laws. |
