FXKing2012: You are really pathetic, u really dont know abt electromagnetic wave and u are still making this claim. This shows your level of ignorance and I must say it beats me. If u dont know something why not ask instead of insisting the thing does not exist, this is just hilarious! There is a term for those who knows not and knows not that they know not. I am simply amazed that some one that has pass through secondary school does not know the difference between electromagnetic waves and a magnetic field. The earth is surrounded by a magnetic field which deflected high energy magnetically charged particles from the sun away from the surface. This magnetic field changes polarity changes every 250,000 yrs or so, and for a brief period neutral or zero. Man you are ignorant, your parents should ask for a refund of all the fees they paid for any science education. |
And how many of such meteorites has been big enough to wipe out life on earth or even destabilize the inner core of the earth which produces the electromagnetic wave that protects the planet as has been the case in other planets such as Mars?Your knowledge of elementary science is worse than I had originally assumed. The core of the earth produces electromagnetic waves? Do you even know what electromagnetic waves are or how they are produced. Please tell us which range of the spectrum is produced in the earth's core and how it is produced. Asteroids and comets hit all the planets and moons within the solar system so I do not understand your arguments concerning meteors. The last major impact was a small comet in Tunguska, Russia in 1908, and its devastation was extensive. Please take time to learn of science issues and developments before you hit the post button. |
As I said Homo Sapiens Sapiens did not evolve from apes we share a common ancestor more than two million years ago. After the split the two followed a seperate evolutionary path. If you go back far enough, we share a common ancestry with every living thing on the planet. Intelligence is just one trait of evolution, it is what helped human to survive and adapt to its environment, it is not as vital to the survival if other apes and definitely not essential to the survival of lions, snakes, fish, etc. Other animals have other evolutionary traits to aid its adaptability and survival. That is the best I can do in educating you on basic science, if you need more understanding, consult credible source or remain in your bias. |
Mazaje, Thanks. I see you are still creditably flying the flag of the old guard, especially we the non-religious. I browse here from time to time but the arguments just go round in circles and one starts to sound like a broken CD. I duff my hat for your resilient and patience. |
Religious people accord too much attention to this gay issue, when there are far more important problems plaguing the planet. So what if a gay, a lesbian or a straight or even a frigid commits suicide. Sexuality is a much more complex issue that religious and moral cape crusaders can grasp. Every person including the most religious has both feminine and masculine nature and the one exhibited is usually the side that is dominant irrespective of whether there is a rod or a whole in between the legs. other peoples sexual orientation should not be my concern as long as they keep it to themselves and not offend others with it |
^^^ Whitney might have died without physical assets or cash but her estate (rights to her songs and record sales) will still be worth millions, just like Michael Jackson's |
Thanks zainab for being a medium for reaching out directly to mallam sanusi. Please show him this blog and ask him some questions raised so that we can get a viable solution to this impasse. My own views is that subsidy removal does not make economic sense not to even talk about political sense. I know I am an economics illiterate and so I base me assertions on common sense, which might even sound stupid. First everything concerning subsidy is abracadabra economics, let me explain below; 1. In the 2009 budget, the total amount spent on petrol subsidy was less than N300billion and in fact a similar amount was budgeted for the 2010 budget, how come we are ending up spending around N1.5 trillion, a whopping 500% increase. What new econonic explanation can account for it. Even the excuse of corruption is not good enough, because SLS cannot tell us that there was no corruption or smuggling before 2010. So as CBN governor all these while, he should give us an economic explanation of what was responsible for the astronomical rise in subsidy cost. 2. How come petrol consumption alone is responsible for up to 20% of our GDP? yes we know that most small industies, personal cars and small buses and small homes run on petrol generators, but mega industries, big buses and trucks and rich homes run on diesel. How come petrol consumption is so much higher than diesel consumption? I am sure even the CBN runs on diesel. Is this not a case of the rich robbing the poor? Ask SLS to explain. 3. How can removal of fuel subsidy improve the economy when all it would do is increase the running cost of small businesses and the living cost of poor homes who depend on petrol? Would it not have made economic sense for the govenment to first ensure adequate electric power, alternative transportation means - trains and water, alternative energy sources like gas, ethanol, solar, etc, so as to reduce consumption of petrol. More importantly, how will a generator driven economy like ours be able to compete with goods manufactured abroad? Finally I disagree with SLS that personel cost cannot be reduced. A simple biometric verification of govenment's personel would reduced the monster of ghost workers and help reduce personel costs. You can take a case study from IMO state government. tell SLS that subsidy is not necessarily a bad thing, the UK subsidizes food (not fertilizer), housing, transportation, Medicare, etc for the vulnerable and the poor. But in Nigeria we subsidize the rich including SLS himself) with free transportation, free housing, free Medicare abroad, etc. Please help me tell SLS to stop wearing french suit, people might think he is still a maxist or socialist. He should always wear his bowl tie and suit and try agbada to suit his economic and political views. |
$15.5125 equals N2.326 trillion at an exchange rate of N150. Meanwhile the government insists that they currently subsidize petroleum to the tune of N1.3 trillion. So that means they can sell our domestic quota without touching money from our export proceeds and still have change. |
Nigeria OPEC export quota is a bit above 2.265BPD which is subject to international prices, buy OPEC also allow for a domestic consumption quota of 425,000BPD, which is not subject to international prices. So this quota can be refined by our local refineries, taking to foreign refineries or sold outrightly and the proceeds used to purchase refined products. Now let's see the third option of selling outrightly and then using the proceeds to purchase products. Domestic quota is 425,000BPD, meanwhile the international price hovers around $100, so multiplying 425,000 by $100 gives $42.5 million a day and for the year equals 365 x $42.5 million = 15.5125 billion |
It is dishonest to compare what happened in the telecommunication sector to the oil industry. In the late 90s mobile telephony was a new and very expensive technology, and so acquisition of mobile phone was very expensive. It was not necessarily competition that brought down prices, it was mainly due to cheap technology, including phones, Sim cards, computers, etc. In the oil industry technology is not going to drive down prices. In fact the oil industry operate like a mafia worldwide, so it very unlikely competition would drive down prices. |
Another major problem is our interest rate regime, with interest rate hovering around 20% and government bond around 14% per annum, no bank would give a refinery with long gestation period any loan. A refinery is not expected to return profit in less than 5 years, most times 10 years. Which bank would give such a loan when they can loan importers and have their money back in less than 90 days. Then we have not even talked about multiple taxes like VAT, and other myriads of taxes. There is also community issues to grapple with. |
There is a fundamental problem with this subsidy debate, no private company would build any refinery as long as the govenment insists on selling crude at international price. Even if all the major products of PMS, diesel and kerosine is sold at N140, it will barely cover the cost of the crude, not to talk of the cost of refinery, land and administrative costs. People who collected licenses did so to enable them to import. believe me, no new private refinery would be build subsidy or no subsidy, so will always be at the mercy of international prices, leading to further pressures on the naira and inflation on its own. government should either build and maintain refineries or ensure a policy where private refineries buy crude at subsidized prices. |
Oga strangest, please helep us interpret "Ojukwu is a great man" when the man is long dead" as me I no go school o. |
It is very saddening to see nigerians defending the indefensible. This so called ppp is not only a fraud, it is callous, wicked and ungodly. Why is this the only project that Fashola is pursuing aggressively? Fashola and indeed the tinubu administration did not build a single school on that axis, the only public school was that built by Jakande opposite Mobil, students of poor parents come from as far as Sangotedo, Badore, Ogombo etc, just to attend school and now there is the added burden of tolls. Also no health center on that axis, no library, no pipe water, no sports facility, and even no motorable road, outside this particular road (after lekki proper). This AC style of government is the strangest in the world where the government aggressively collect taxes but feels no responsibility to provide services. I hope supporters would hang around when the backlash starts in the form of Boko Haram, militancy, armed robbery, etc, and not run away to countries that take care of its citizens. |
It is criminal for LCC to rehabilitate a portion of an existing road and then toll it for 30 yrs amids other mind blowing benefits. The only problem on that road was the heavy traffic dues to the massive rapid development of the lekki-aja-epe axis, so the most logical thing to do was for LCC to build another road and toll it for 100yrs if they like. Even the so called expansion of the road will not solve the problem, by the time lekki free trade zone starts, the eko Atlantic city is finished and Epe becomes highly developed, the traffic that orchestrated the LCC projects would look like child's play. A good example is ikorodu road, when Marwa dualized the road, it was wonderful, but 10yrs later, the traffic is hellish. The most annoying thing is that the toll gate themselves would add to the traffic. |
In absolute terms the 2012 budget is less than the 2011 budget. The 2012 budget is only 6% more than the 2011 budget but the inflation rate is around 9% and the exchange rate will likely depreciate further to about N170 - N180 to the dollar. Meanwhile oil export is projected to increase and the oil bench mark has also increased from $65 to $75. |
Where is the saved fuel subsidy in the 2012 budget? Is GEJ going to create another PTF like body? Will the budget for the agency not pass through the national assembly? I thought we would see an extra N1.3trillion on capital projects to account for fuel subsidy removal. Then there is the issue of exchange rate. What was the 2011 budget based on in comparison with the 2012 budget? |
Deepsight, You are one of the people I respect a lot, you bring in a lot of intellectualism into discussions. On this issue of burden of proof of a negative assertion being on the person disputing the negative due to lack of evidence, I disagree with you. Now lets analyze your core argument on the burden of proof lying on atheists to prove the negative existence of a (one) God. Your core arguments is that because of the perception of complexity within the universe, therefore that complexity must have been a result of a more complex phenomenon (which you consider to be an intelligent God) That argument is upside down as far as the way the universe works. Nature starts from simple processes, or materials and evolve into more complex ones. It is nucleons and electrons that evolve to be hydrogen which is the basic building block of the universe. Then hydrogen evolved to more complex elements up to uranium. Same process with compounds, from simple compounds containing two elements to complex organic molecules with hundreds of molecules. So it would be a misnomer to say that uranium (which is the most complex naturally occurring element) must have been created by a more complex molecule (or God). Ditto for organic compounds. It also anti nature to say that the most complex organisms were created by a more complex organism or (God) Then we enter the argument of complexity, as i like to say complexity is in the eye of the beholder. A thing is complex depending on the perspective, scale and angle at which we perceive it. Anything can be as simple or as complex as we want depending on the perspective at which we view it. A simple hydrogen atom can be infinitely complex if we analyze the motion and energy levels of its neutron and proton. A simple sand dun e can form various complex patterns depending on the scale we are viewing it. A simple collection of stars (galaxy) can form extremely complex patterns and interactions. Finally when you talk about intelligent design, I would need you to give me your definition of the term. Because according to my understanding, intelligence is a function of the neo-cortex, enabling an organism to make decisions critical to its survival. And Homo Sapiens Sapiens (intelligent man) is the zenith of intelligence as far as we know, so if you have any other definition please lets have it. Same for design, design is an intelligent process of combining already existing simple materials in a variety of ways to bring about a new complex material, object or process for the comfort, convenience, or pleasure of the designer. A design is not necessarily created, that is the job of technicians and most designs never become reality. |
folaski, I am very sorry to say but your understanding of basic science is highly limited. Please do not attempt to use scientific examples to support your faith. Incest in not only bad morally (and you bible did not even condemn it, but encourages it instead), it is bad biologically and socially. Incest means sex within close family members such as father/daughter, mother/son, bother\sister, uncle/niece and aunt/nephew. Sex between cousins is not usually regarded as incest, especially after second cousins. Incest is very harmful to the group as it degrades the gene and often leads to deformity within the group that practices it. That is why animal breeders go to great length to avoid inbreeding, as it will degrade the quality of the offsprings. You electricity example shows you do not understand what electricit is. Electricity is simply the movement of electrons and electrons can move through any medium, be it solid, liquid or gas. it conducts through air, that is why lightnings hit the ground. |
Hi Old pal. Not sure you got my meaning. The universe itself is an already existent thing. The core question is what triggered its existence. It is said to have started to expand from a point - a singularity. Why and how did this happen. Why did the singularity exist in the first place. I believe these are the questions that go to the meat of the matter, as you cannot have probabilities in a non-existent state. What accounts for existent states?Sorry if I did not get you earlier. I believe that there are three classes of knowledge, those that is known, those that is not yet known and those that is unknowable. The questions you ask fall in the category of those that is unknowable. I know it is difficult for out highly developed cerebrium to come to terms with the fact that some things are unknowable. So scientists and theists can speculate all they want, it would not change the fact. We must understand our limitations, we are situated in and obscure planet in an obscure system in an obscure galaxy and maybe in an obscure multiverse, so to say out range of vision is limited is a gross understatement. It is made worse by the fact that we have only been able to see beyond out solar system in the last few decades. So the picture we have of the universe is just a snapshot of a few seconds in the eternity of time. It is with this snap shot that we are attempting to draw the complete structure of the nature and extent of the universe. So what I believe is that the expansion we are witnessing now might be an event local to our perceivable part of our universe for the short time we have been able to observe it. Peace |
Deep sight my old friend, how you dey? Hope you are doing fine. The universe is predicted on probabilities. On the microscopic world the laws of probabilities reign supreme. You cannot be certain of anything or any event. You can only be certain of the probability of an event happening. The universe forbids nothingness, to achieve a state of nothingness, you would need to go outside the known universe. Even in a vacuum you have what is called quantum fluctuations, which allows energy to pop in and out of existence. |
Olaadegun, I do not bother reading your links from answergenesis because it turns logic upside down most of the time, in order to support its beliefs, and I was not disappointed. It chose an arbitrary figure of a linear population for all of recorded history and then ends with population doubling ever 40yrs. Now how do you reconcile the two? Your starting with 1 couple that begins to double every 150 years is biologically ridiculous. if you start with one baby. Couple today, they would start having children in less than thirty years and their children less than thirty years after then. In fact in 150 years we would have had nothing less than 5 generations. So imagine what the total population would be from that single couple. In the olden days the situatin is even worse as girls start having children as early as 15. As every body has observe debating with you is like debating with a parrot living close to a busstop loading only Oshodi passengers, all he can ever say is oshodi, oshodi, enter. population growth is not linear. It sometimes even decreases due to factors already discussed. The indiginous population of the Americas was almost decimated. The population of black Africa was stagnated for centuries due to diseases, especially malaria. If not for the great medical and scientific advances of the late 19th and 20th centuries, I am sure the world population would not have reached 2billion by now. |
Trueseeker, If it is illogical to believe that nothing can come out of nothing, how come it is logical for your god to spring forth from nothing? It is the same people that you adopted their language that categorized humans as apes. If you quarrel with the definition revert to your native tongue. Here is a definition of great apes from http://www.worldwildlife.org/species/finder/greatapes/greatapes.html great apes belong to the taxonomic family Homindae, which includes chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutans, gorillas and humans. This group includes our closest wild relatives. In fact, all members of this family share possibly more than 97% of their DNA. The great apes have all been documented using tools, and communicating with amazing complexity. The great apes are found primarily in Central Africa with the exception of orangutans, which are native to the islands of Borneo and Sumatra in Asia. All of the great apes face serious threats and are all endangered, some critically endangered. Habitat loss, climate change, infectious disease and illegal hunting for both meat and the live pet trade have combined to push these speciesI never questioned your educational qualifications or competence, what I am implying is that it is definitely not in the sciences, as a result, I do not expect these issues to make sense to you. |
Numo86, you got everything missed and messed up. I know it is due to mental conditioning, it is impossible to reason outside what you have been indoctrinated with since you are a toddler. Since you find the word chance uncomfortable, then change it to probability, it should make more sense. So we can now say you came to the world as a result of probability. The probability of you coming into the world can be put at 1billion to one, but when you consider that an ejaculation can release up to 10million sperms in a single session, then your parents only need a few sessions to achieve that probability. Same with life, even if the probability of life evolving out of non organic materials is 1billion to one, it has had over 4billion years of trial and error. Everything you perceive as design today is just a state of temporary equilibrium. It will change tomorrow and new equilibriums(designs) would arise, like patterns on a sand dune. How can you believe we came from dust and will return to dust. We have nothing in common with earth dust which is mainly composed of silicon, we are carbon based and have no silicon in out bodies. And when we die it is bacteria, worms and insects that would consume our bodies(if you are not cremated) and recycled to be used by other living things. If you are talkng of star dust or star gasses, I would understand. |
Even Moses did have a definition for the god he was conversing with and so asked"what is your name" the answer he got was " I am that I am". God further explained that he is the god of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, he did not say that He was the god of the Egyptians or any other people. You know there were lots of other people living in the times of Abraham, Isaac or Jacob, and this god did not claim to represent them. Because they probably had never meet the god of the Jews. Moses's god said he is the god of Abraham, isaac and Jacob and that is the name he wants to known by forever, I wander why Christians have now changed his name to jehova, yahweh, and other definitions. |
Point of re-correction, the bible did not explicitly state that we are in a uni-god universe. There are verses of randy sons of gods giving birh to hybid god/humans. Even the ten commandments did not say that there is only one god, it only forbids the worship of other gods because of the jealous nature of the Jewish god. Even the Christians accept three gods in one or is it one god in three (like the three musketeers). So what do you call the image of a man hanging from a cross that Christians hang on their necks, hang in their homes or on their alters, that they kneel and bows to everyday which is explicitly contrary to the second commandments. |
What is a holy ghost? Casper? |
Your bible did not state that there is only one god in existence. There are numerous instances that acknowledges the existence of other gods. The bone of contention was who is the most powerful. The Jewish people recognized the existence of Egyptian gods, and other canaanite gods including baal, they only insisted that their god is more powerful that all of them. They did not even say that that their gods created other Gods. What I even liked about the Jews is that they respected the rights of their neighbors to worship their own gods, their main concern is preventing other gods from influencing their own. I wish Christians and Muslims can take a cue. |
Before we even attempt to answer the question of who created god, we need a proper definition of the word. What is a god? How many gods are there? Is there a colony or family of gods with a defined political structure? We need a more precise definition outside the vague one we have been indoctrinated with by out colonial masters, which is a man identical to them physically, emotionally, politically, etc, who is responsible for willing everything into existence. |
