It has a lot to do with the case. Nigerians claim to know more than professionals.

The police lawyers are establishing the reliability and integrity of the accused. The trial is about who is lying between the police and the accused on the statement first given to the police. A girl having sex with numerous men including her "foster father" and lying about it cannot be relied upon to tell the truth.

The police is trying to establish that the so called "foster father" is an accessory to the crime before or after the crime. That was why he was arrested and tried. Its left for the police to present their evifence and let the court decide.

And you think badge verification will work? Very suspect and risky business model. The model that had been working for social media from inception is to offer free quality service and then make money from advertisers and by selling subscriber information. That's how Facebook, Google search, YouTube, nairaland, WhatsApp, etc works. Asking people to pay for verification will discourage people. The idea of buying verification itself would create distrust.

As per househelps/nannys/minders. I have seen and not just read of terrible instances negligence and abuse of children and babies. You should never leave your children with people who are not emotionally invested with your children. I am a firm believer that one parent must be available to raise the children, its unhealthy having someone else carrying different psychological and emotional baggage raising your children.

This is the reason I decided not to hire any minder, nanny or househelp to look after my children. No one can take care of your children than the parents and maybe the grandparents. There are tons of stores of negligence and even outright abuse by child minders all over the media.

Summary of what I am trying to say is that atheists denounce religion and faith as being antithetical to progress but a greater degree of human progress has been hinged on religions and faiths than the atheist would like to admit. From the role of the Church in Europe to the many scientific breakthroughs of the golden age of Islam to the tempering roles of Oriental faiths, religion and faith have played a far bigger role in mankind's growth and evolution into the advancement of today than most atheists would care to admit.

So what happened? Why has the Church become anti science and anti knowledge. Why has Christianity gone back to the dark ages and started discouraging science and acquisition of knowledge. Why is Christianity now promoting ignorance. Ignorance like flat earth, geocentric universe, etc. Why is Christianity against the well establish fact of evolution (Charles Darwin was a Catholic priest).

This is why I say that religion (particularly Christianity and Islam is antithetical to progress and development.

I am also pretty sure that the existence of universities owes much to Churches in Europe.

The Renaissance was an anti establishment religious movement. It started with questioning the Catholic Church and embracing humanism as a philosophy.
The Renaissance led to the beginning of the age of reason, where the very foundation of Christianity was being questioned. This lead to the age of science and discovery. The church was against these developments and advancements and actually persecuted the early pioneers and thinkers.

I am sure I am rambling a little off point, but the point is one cannot so clinically divorce faith from progress.

Some faith is beneficial to progress but the Boko Haram type or the Christian fundamentalist type is antithetical to development.

Besides, Catholics believed he touched Jesus while protestants believe he did not. Its a matter of which doctrine to choose to believe.

Then in less than 100 years dies. Because of that he/she is expected to worship a God for eternity. Mind you he/she might survive for just 15 years.

Because the USA is a peculiar case. Their brand of Christianity is very materialistic and makes acquisition of wealth a doctrine. Besides, a huge percentage of the wealth is created by atheists and non religious people. Of the 10 riches men in the US only a couple are religious.
