NYSC / Re: Outrage As NYSC Posts Graduates To Borno, Others by wowo2: 9:33am On Jul 03, 2012
Was there even any deliberation by the NYSC administration or the presidency not to send people to these violent states?

Am now convinced the Nigeria is in the hands of the insane.

President GEJ will wake up one day from his DONT-GIVE-A-DAMN dream or whatever dream he is in to find out Nigeria has been packaged, shipped and sold.
He is a mentor to many eager people hanging around him who are desperate for some share of the national cake and he will be beaten at his game.

Lula encourages investment in Nigeria
ABUJA, Nigeria – President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Tuesday he will encourage Brazilian companies to invest in Nigeria, as part of his efforts to have developing nations strengthen economic and political ties.

“Nigeria, having the largest population of Africans in the world will be an extraordinary trade partner with Brazil,” Silva said at a joint news conference with President Olusegun Obasanjo, leader of the West African nation of some 130 million people.
Silva said he would push Brazilian firms to visit Nigeria and form new partnerships. The two men signed a protocol to cooperate in crop production and agricultural practices.
Obasanjo said he would visit Brazil, South America’s most populous country with 184 million inhabitants, for independence day celebrations on September 7.
The two countries have common goals: both are pushing for permanent seats on an expanded U.N. Security Council, and both are members of the G-20 group of 20 developing nations campaigning for the United States and the European Union to end all export subsidies to farmers by 2010.
Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos, boasts a Brazilian quarter settled by freed slaves who returned in the early 1900s and now hold yearly carnivals.
Nigeria is the world’s seventh largest oil exporter and Brazil’s fifth biggest trade partner.
Silva arrived Monday from Cameroon and left Nigeria on Tuesday for Ghana. He will then visit Guinea-Bissau, a former Portuguese colony like Brazil, and Senegal.
Africa is a sizable market for Brazilian exports, receiving some U.S.$2.3 billion worth of goods in 2002.

Politics / Re: Farouk Lawan Stuffed Bribe Money Inside His Cap To Avoid Suspicion. by wowo2: 5:57pm On Jun 15, 2012
I will keep saying it with my tiny voice.
The cause of all this problem is president Jonathan. He is so annoyingly incapable. I doubt if he knows the meaning of corruption. What else is he when it under his presidency that corruption is growing wings rapidly. He does not seem to know he has a job to do - which is to affect positively the lives of the ordinary man, the man that struggles to put food on his family's table; the man who has no savings to handle whatever life decides to throw at him down the line...Jonathan should be asked to leave quietly as he has no idea, he's completely clueless. He thinks he is in government for the people (his friends or the Nigerians he remembers their faces). How can a man except he is clueless not know he should let the common man know where he stands on the only program that seems to be taking root in Nigeria - corruption; He should be the leader and show some leadership by acting it. He needs to wake up or it will be too late and he will find himself governing a non-existent state.

May the souls of the departed RIP.

As Sonala Olumhense aptly put it 6 yrs ago:

"Mercifully, we are not able to see the graphic effects of the failures in agriculture, or education or health. We cannot see horrifying images of the failures in the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS), or in the sub tenanted battle against corruption. But in last week’s crash, we have a brutal reminder of how reforms that are not implemented may come back to haunt Nigeria. A plane crash is graphic, violent and tragic, and nobody likes to think about it, let alone of being in one. As a metaphor, however, it is the ultimate image.
...
Last week’s crash is a graphic reminder of the poor road network in our country where not only are people slaughtered unacknowledged everyday, but thousands of man-hours are routinely lost as people sit in traffic. It is a reminder of the chaos in the Delta, and of the poverty and hunger and high unemployment.

Education / Re: UNILAG/MAU Students Drag FG To Court Over Name change by wowo2: 6:17am On Jun 05, 2012
Nigerians are useless people.

Do they not have any demands off of the government than change of names?

Instead of taking GEJ and his minions to task on resolving societal issues and all failed facets of life in Nigeria they are arguing about MAU.
Every aspect of life in Nigeria is horrible, just that the failure of education sector, financial sector etc can not manifest in sudden huge loss of lives as we see in the aviation sector, Nigeria would not exist anymore

If you want to live in Nigeria, try any work and if none is forthcoming, go hide in school.

Family / Re: Why Do Some People Maltreat Their Househelps? by wowo2: 2:41pm On May 14, 2012
moremi2008:

That's not how most househelps are treated. It might seem like a free-for-all situation but there are actually in-built checks and balances. First, it's hard to find a good househelp and most people that hire them tend to treat them fairly well. Second, if you treat a househelp badly, she will most likely run away. Three, the middleman that matches househelps with families will NOT work with you again if you treat one of the helps badly. Having said this, there are always exceptions, especially when the househelp has nobody to look out for his/her interests.

Almost every family I know back home have househelps and they are treated very well. My family is an example; we have always had househelps and they are paid and treated very well. Ditto for all the other families I know. The ones currently helping my mum earn 15k a month and they get free lodging, food and clothes (they also spend half the day sleeping and getting very fat).

It is very simple...Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
To be honest, when growing up i felt the helps my family had were specially treated because unlike us kids, my parents who were firm believers in not sparing the rod never raise their hands or voice when speaking to the househelps but i do remmeber my father calmly telling a few to go back to their homes when they are guilty of particularly bad behaviour - one was reported by neighbors for entertaining boyfriends when no one is home. On the flip side I remember separate instances of two people that traced my family even after moving houses almost 2 decades later. And it was like long lost relatives come back with the way they happily catchup and share nostalgic moments with my parents. Thankfully i have no recollection of them and all the others when they stayed with us because as they say, short term memory is characteristic of a genius smiley

What happened to Chemical Engineering or Elect/Elect Eng'g?

Those 2 used to be the only ones anybody entering OAU Faculty of Technology ever wanted to study.

Hopefully there is now the realisation amongst secondary school leavers and parents that the Industry in Nigeria is inexistent. Very easy to see that most Chemical Engineering graduates do not end up as Chemical Engineers; ditto Elect/Elect. Most Elect Elect graduates these days end up as Computer salesmen or to sugar-coat it - IT Consultants.
