raskymonojendor:This is what the world led by ECOWAS, AU, UN have to prevent ASAP. Failure to do that Nigeria and the entire Sahel will be in further danger from Islamist insurgents. |
maxist2020:Insightful. |
richie240:Indeed. |
fergie001:...As earlier predicted. |
chineduace:That's a mad cool feature in WhatsApp. |
iwaeda:I don't trust Sahara Reporters sources and credibility these days... a lot of misleading stories have been published by then. |
sukkot:Ha! Provide the SOURCE of the research please... OR is there a metaphysical info? OR is this sarcasm PURE SARCASM? Many Ibos are NOT light skinned, though some are light. Skin complexion varies in people of African descent and from place to place and depending on genetic. |
mutumina007:Nicely put... an insightful perspective from FFK.. |
Abagworo:Bump. The Yoruboid words in Northern Ibo lingo here came in via the Igalas. These are PURE loan words of Yoruba ethnic origins. The Igala language is Yoruboid just like Itsekiris whose parent ethnic group is Yoruba (Ijebus, Ilajes and Ifes) with some Bini-Edo exiled migration led by Prince Ginuwa, the son of the then Oba of Benin in the 1480s. Many of the words that you listed up there that sound similar with Yoruba are PURE Yoruba words found in the Igala language. Igala has far MORE Yoruba words in it of nearly 50% [if the percentage had hit 50% OR more, Igala would have been classified as a major Yoruba dialect] than Ibo language which has a few loan words from Yoruba language via the indigenous Igalas of Anambra, Enugu, Kogi, and Delta States! THE FOLLOWING WORDS BELOW ARE PURE YORUBA WORDS IN ORIGIN Egungun [Spirit Masquerade. Egungun means bone or spirit-like masquerade. Igalas spell it as "Egwugwu"], Iba[Fever], Afefe [Breeze], Ogede [Plantain], Ewure [Goat], Kini? [What?], Erin [Elephant in Yoruba], Oyinbo [white or European], Eti [Ear in Yoruba], Ifa [The Yoruba Ifa religion], Enu [Mouth], Igbo [Bush] Olukumi or Oluku [Friend or protector], Omi [Water], Akuko [Cock in Yoruba], Ewa [Beans, but Igalas call and spell beans as "Egwa," got from Ewa in Yoruba language, etc]. There are many indigenous Igala settlements and bloodlines in Kogi, Anambra, Enugu and Delta States such as Igbokenyi, Enugu Ezike, Nsukka, Nteje, Aguleri, Nri, Asaba, Okpanam, Illah, Onitsha and other Igala-associated communities, so I'm NOT surprised by the CLEAR inflow of Yoruba [Yoruboid words knowing full well that Yoruba bloodlines in the Kogi State area make up a major part of the ancestry of Igalas]. Yorubas and Igalas are direct ancestral relatives from a fusion of DISTINCT ethnicities in the Niger River or Kogi confluence that took place about 600 years ago with migrants from the Wukari area of Taraba. There was NO split from one proto language at all! Yoruba and Ibo are distinct ethnicities and languages and did NOT split from one proto language. => https://punchng.com/im-first-attah-in-igala-history-with-one-wife-ameh-oboni/ The late Attah of Igala Ameh Michael Oboni granted an interview to Punch in 2017 in the Weblink above where he affirmed that a SIGNIFICANT people of Yoruba and Edo bloodlines fused with the migrants who came from Wukari in Taraba State [Wukari is part of Jukunland] along the confluence of the Niger and Benue in Kogi. It is very CLEAR that it is the Yoruba ancestral and linguistic component of Igala that makes up what you call Igala ethnicity today! This is why you have the Yoruba words in Igala are also in Ibo as loan words because the Igalas also interacted with the aboriginal Ibos of Anambra and Enugu States. Indeed it was the Igalas that first introduced the RED CHIEFTAINCY CAP into the Nsukka area where we also had strong Igala interactions. The red cap then spread to other Ibo areas. [The Igala Yoruboid words got absorbed into the Northern Ibo language variant as loan words that you stated up in your post]. All these happened within the last 500 years. https://www.academia.edu/34566647/IGALA_COLONISATION_OF_NORTHERN_IGBO_STATES_1450_18th_century https://www.academia.edu/34560250/IGALA_COLONISATION_OF_NORTHERN_IGBO_STATES_1450_18th_century https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2013/08/11/essay-the-politics-of-igbo-origin-and-culture/ https://dailytrust.com/500-years-of-igalas-in-enugu/ https://dailytrust.com/igala-footprints-in-enugu/ https://newsprobeng.com/aguleri-people-are-igala-migrants-not-igbo/#:~:text=Elder%20Aniegboka%20however%20stated%20that,guise%20of%20communion%20and%20fellowship. Aguleri people of Anambra from the last article link above are said to be Igala migrants. Aguleri only came into existence according to anUmueri source I read online about 400 years ago. Even the man called Eri of Nri fame is an Igala. They introduced the kingship system and Ifa religion into the Nri area. Nri had no kingship until the Igala arrival influenced it. Indeed, another post from an Ebira elderly man that I read years back on FaceBook said he was dissapointed that younger Igalas don't know their TRUE origins and that it was the fusion of Ebira Koto people and Yoruba [Akpoto] that gave rise to Igala people of today. The Yoruba ancestral component of Igala CANNOT be denied. Cc: Sukkot, Mynd44, Nlfpmod, Seun. |

Godsownfc:[i]They do. Itsekiri is closer to Ijebu and Ilaje dialects. The word basket and numbers 1 to 10 in Yoruba and Itsekiri are the same for instance.[/i] https://www.nairaland.com/3905997/want-learn-itsekiri-language-get/7 |
WorldRichest:Actually Reno Omokri is paternally Urhobo and maternally Itsekiri just like Senator Oluremi Tinubu whose father is of Ijebu descent. Indeed the Yoruba clans of Ijebu, Ife, Ilaje, and Bini migrants led by Ginuwa make up the bloodlines of the Itsekiri people of Delta State. |

Positivepoint:The mod who keeps pushing some of these fake topics to the front page has to be cautioned tbh. There should be verification of news before thread topics are pushed to the front page and fake threads should be thrashed into the NL recycle bin. What you uploaded there is the correct picture and information from BBC Hausa Service showing General Abdulsalam Abubakar [rtd] and the Niger Republic Junta leader in Niamey.

Watcharena:Just to be clear, I was already an adult back in the 1990s so I can confirm that there was full corruption in the society in Nigeria induced by bad military rule then. From especially the General IBB era in the late 1980s [read the Okigbo Report of corruption in the Gulf Oil Windfall] to General Abacha stealing and stashing over $4 billion USD via the CBN into foreign secret accounts in the 1990s which is the biggest single robbery in Nigerian history by a single person and his cohorts. Yes, despite that we still had professional soldiers and Generals who went to battle through ECOMOG in Liberia. My family members are and were in the military too and I have cousins who bravely went on missions to Liberia, Bakassi and Sierra Leone on combat duties. The military still has brave men and women as of today but were hampered by some internal sabotage from informants. I will leave it at that. Last but not least, my references to Gambia and Yahya Jammeh is because he was a former military leader who came in via a coup, became very corrupt and then transmuted into a civilian dictatorship President who didn't want to leave power after losing an election so a Nigerian-led ECOWAS military force moved in to remove him IN 2017 from the sit-tight position for 22 years because he had violated the ECOWAS protocols. Fortunately, reason prevailed on him and Bola Tinubu's private jet was used to fly Jammeh into exile. This happened when PMB was the President of Nigeria. dre11:There's NO humiliation here. It's all part of the dictates of life. This is exactly how back in the 1990s, the military junta that took over power in a coup in Sierra Leone was bluffing leaders of other countries that tried to broker a return to democracy until the Nigerian-led military forces invaded Sierra Leone and kicked the coup plotters out thereby restoring democracy to Sierra Leone. Many young posters here especially the rabid Peter Obi ethnocentric supporters who are spreading hate speech and misleading information while irresponsibly calling for the military to take over power in Nigeria we're not born or were babies back in the 1990s and they have refused to read and learn from contemporary West African history. |
SaLongs1:True that. |
WriterNig:A lot of those so-called Nigerien protesters are hired for photo effects. Period. Imagine calling on Wagner, a private security firm for protection. Even the Russians have condemned the coup in Niger and are in support of democracy. Now what? ..... ![]() |
TheBillyonaire:Back in the 1990s, a Nigerian-led ECOWAS intervention force successfully restored democracy by removing the irresponsible military coup plotters in Sierra Leone. Most of those typing here and spreading hate messages on this thread and others are young and we're mostly not even born when Nigeria helped to restore democracy in Sierra Leone after that military coup. It was a clinical military operation by Nigerian troops who went with lightning speed into Freetown and got the coup plotters kicked out! The same thing happened during the time of PMB when a Nigerian-led military forces moved in to Gambia to remove Yahya Jammeh of Gambia. It was Tinubu's private jet that was coincidentally used to fly Jammeh out into exile thereby saving Jammeh's ass from being whipped. |

drlateef:Tbh, a lot of the young Peter Obi supporters here are daft and real simpletons. Despite all the evidence provided here on the thread and elsewhere, they have continued to open silly threads and refused to read because of ethnic bigotry and hate. President Tinubu has to immediately initiate how to bring all these creeps to justice in the courts of law for the relentless acts of criminal defamation online and offline. He and his lawyer son Seyi Tinubu are the only ones that can help themselves because they have the locus standi to do so. Period. |

that baby factory culture in the south east was started by obed edom chukwuemeka azikiwe and lord lugard when they were bringing in white men and breeding them in baby factories with Igbo women so as to create a superior light skin class in which they will use to rule Nigeria like they did in India by lightening them up to create a ruling class. This why many Igbo are light skin today. Product of lord lugards baby factory. That plan to create a ruling light skin class backfired as Hausa eventually snatched power from Igbo .
