Ghana have been disqualified from participating at the Under-17 African Youth Championship in Niger next year for fielding an ineligible player. CAF took the decision following a protest by Cameroon claiming overage players were fielded in Ghana's final qualifier. Cameroon protested against seven players they felt were overage, with the organising committee finding one of them guilty as charged. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) insists the player in question is of the correct age and say it was confirmed by MRI reports from Ghana, one of which was in the presence of a CAF medical officer. However, CAF wrote to the GFA on Saturday claiming the analysis of the MRI report from a medical centre in Ghana contradicts the analysis of two CAF medical experts on the eligibility of one of the players. CAF has now overturned that result and reinstated the Cameroonians, which means they have qualified for the tournament to be held in Niger next year. “The Ghana Football Association confirms receipt of a letter from CAF disqualifying the National U-17 team, the Black Starlets from the U-17 Championship to be played in Niger in 2015...,” a Ghana FA statement on the federation’s official website revealed. The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, on Wednesday appointed former Under-20, Under-23 and senior national team coach, Samson Siasia, as the head coach of the U-23 team. Siasia was re-appointed during an executive committee meeting which held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. A communique signed by the chairman of the drafting committee, Suleiman Kwande, said, “The committee also appointed Mr. Samson Siasia as the new head coach of the U-23 men’s team. He will be assisted by Fatai Amoo, while the Technical and Development will recommend the other members of the crew” The 47-year old former Super Eagles striker led the U-20 team, Flying Eagles, to the finals of both the 2005 U-20 World Cup and the U-20 African Youth Championship. He won the African Youth Championship and made it to the finals of the tournament where he lost 2–1 to Argentina. Siasia was again in 2007 appointed head coach of the U23 national team. He coached the team to the finals of the 2008 Olympics against Argentina and won silver. He also led the team to win the inaugural Intercontinental Cup in Malaysia in 2008 with only Nigerian League players. In 2010, he succeeded the former Eagles coach, a Swedish, Lars Lagerback, and was sacked in 2011 after his failure to take Nigeria to the 2012 Africa Cup Of Nations, Afcon. A British man has been jailed for four months in Morocco for being gay, his family have said. Ray Cole, 70, was arrested while on holiday, according to his son Adrian, who said that authorities in the north African country had been reluctant to even reveal where his father was. He posted a picture of the Central prison in Marrakesh, where he said his father was being held. “My father has a spot on the floor ... But that’s quite reasonable, after all he is a gay and had the temerity to visit Morocco as a tourist for a holiday,” he wrote. He said that life inside the prison was “pretty bleak … they are served boiled vegetables once a day and his cell is a dorm designed to sleep 44, however since there are 60 men in there my 70-year-old father sleeps on the concrete floor.” He said his father, who lives in Kent, was being held alongside murderers and rapists. It is understood that when Cole, who came out as gay a few years ago, was arrested police searched his phone and found photographs which they used to prosecute him in court. Charlie Elphicke, the Conservative MP for Dover, branded the charges “medieval” and said it showed British tourists were not safe in Morocco. He said: “I have been doing all I can to help free Mr Cole from these appalling charges. I am deeply concerned about his safety and it is clear that if you visit Morocco you are at serious risk of facing trumped up charges for medieval crimes. The message is clear – Morocco is not safe for British tourists. “I am gravely concerned by the state of Moroccan prisons, and the care and the safety he will have in jail. I’m raising it with ministers, asking them to intervene more directly on his behalf. It is a shocking and appalling situation for a British national to be in and it is really important to get him back to the UK.” The Foreign Office said: “We can confirm the detention of a British man in Morocco. We are providing consular assistance.” Source: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/oct/06/british-man-ray-cole-70-jailed-four-months-morocco-gay |
maclatunji:It is simply ignorance and contradictory if you try to define the divinity of God and limit him with human limitations, hence the folly of your logical inference. The main reason why Jesus was needed is based on the premise that man sinned and required redemption. The only way of atonement is for a sinless life to be sacrificed to atone for man's sin. |
adeoladrg:The problem is not the meat in itself, it's the ideology behind the whole exercise, which aims to desecrate the holy bible by giving legitimacy to an illegitimate event. The Bible instructed Abraham to sacrifice Isaac not Ishmael as the Muslims would have us believe, this singular context makes it wrong for a christian to eat Ileya meat, because by so doing you are unknowingly accepting the lie aimed at corrupting the lineage of Christ, which was through Isaac. For those trying to blackmail Christians with Halal meat, by saying if you've eaten meat in the southwest, that you've eaten ileya meat. I will say this, they are two unrelated contexts, one is generic while the other is aimed at corrupting the origins of Christ, please do not be deceived and be ignorant. This is the singular reason why all the Islamic expeditions of the Ottoman empire was aimed at identifying the burial grounds of all the prophets in the Bible, and once identified, mosques were built on them. The main reason is to give legitimacy to an illegitimate belief. Shalom |
What about righties driving in the UK, since the steering is on the other side? It's a thing of the mind and how you learned driving |
ISpiksDaTroof: What freaking "Intel" about your porous country are you talking about? You really think we need to be on ground to know everything happening in your official circles? If you became a fantasy writer you would become a very successful one in a very short period...at least if you learned how to spell "Sierra Leonian" properlyLike the saying goes "some people are perceived intelligent until they open their mouths". I've been on this fora for a while and your level of trolling is unprecedented to say the least. You couldn't help but show how low your level of intelligence is, nor could you hide how myopic and shallow your thought process is than to pose a rebuttal to my submission with an effeminate reply filled with inaniloquent conjectures. You couldn't resist the urge to show your lack of courtesy that you had to stoop so low in your bid to score a cheap point, by pointing out a simple typo/misspelled word. What in Pete's name did you write up there? you didn't even offer a dissenting opinion, but your responses are filled with rhetorics and seemingly incomplete half-truths like someone suffering from knismesis. Unlike @Shymexx whom I've been having the discussion with, who unlike you is matured enough to respond with intelligent replies. You don't know me, neither do you know what I stand for, and unlike you I verify my facts before stating them. Kindly desist from quoting me if you can't offer a meaningful contribution to the topic, cos your maledicent responses are very shallow and becoming rather nauseating. |
shymexx: Lmao @ brainwashed by CNN.This right here is the problem with our foreign policies, what happened to our sense of pride? We act unintelligent at times, without thinking of the repercussions. The interests of the populace are not considered before we vote and we expect to be taken serious, heck some of our people would even pray that we are recolonised by the yanks for all they care. Misplaced priority I tell ya, we are in his mess because of having unintelligent people in highly critical positions in our diplomatic setup. There's a reason why CIA, NSA and the likes get he best of the best while recruiting. In our own case, the DSS recruitment is done on ethnicity/religion/political affiliation basis. This is why the country is where it is today |
shymexx: Typical airhead. You mean the same South Africa that defied both the US and UK under Mbeki to support Mugabe and Zimbabwe? The same South Africa that's part of the BRICS, and is working with the BRICS' new world economic order against US interests and petrodollar? The same South Africa that questioned US and NATO's excessive bombings of Libya, and the most vocal country on the continent about it? Etc..I would say you are spot on in your analysis of the southafrican stance on th yanks, but you need to know that southafrican government would be respected more than ours because of the lack of self respect of our leader who are not pan-africanists. The southafricans have earned their rep by always speaking wi h a clear voice and being professional in their approach. Nigeria on the other hand would not do things the right way, all because of the greed of our politicians, they see everything as a means of making money, without any thought on the repercussions. We Had to rejected during the Ebola scare before we decided to tackle the situation headlong, now we are reaping the benefits. @shymexx still expecting your response to my reply on the other thread Shallom |
ntyce: Blocking the sale of non - existing aircrafts.I wasn't sure sure of the information from the FG before now, but now I'm sure that the yanks did block the sale. I guess the guys mixed up the name, it was the Cobra AH1 not Chinooks. The IDF doesn't have the Chinook in their inventory. Here's my opinion on the saga from another thread: xwolverine: As funny as it sounds, the reason given is that Nigeria is in breach of their so called senator Leahy laws. This to me is selective double standards, because Nigeria has shown itself over the years as dependable ally, even when we had the tyrants in power (Abacha), our alpha jets were used extensively to end the Liberian and Seira leoninan wars, if we look at the Israeli conflicts with Palestines, there were numerous cases of human right abuse, but the Yanks turned the blind eye.Now I'm getting information that we are considering the Kfir block 60 from the Israelis, when are we going to learn? |
shymexx: What's there to be classified, when the fighter jets in the US and Russian inventory are in the public? Heck, the US announced the first ever combat the f-22 raptor ever took part in yesterday in Syria against ISIS. Though that's more or less comic relief to test the most advanced fighter jet in your inventory, against an Islamist group, with no air defense whatsoever, and call it combat - since that wasn't what it was built for with billions of dollars. But at least we know it has seen combat and the US has about 186 F-22s. Ditto how the Russians always announce whatever fighter jets they add to their air force fleet. As funny as it sounds, the reason given is that Nigeria is in breach of their so called senator Leahy laws. This to me is selective double standards, because Nigeria has shown itself over the years as dependable ally, even when we had the tyrants in power (Abacha), our alpha jets were used extensively to end the Liberian and Seira leoninan wars, if we look at the Israeli conflicts with Palestines, there were numerous cases of human right abuse, but the Yanks turned the blind eye. The sanctions, though unofficial from the yanks, is what our ogas are giving as reasons for not getting the right hardwares, which to me is a blessing in disguise and it further buttresses my point that we should turn East for our military assets. The Cobras blocked from the Israeli deal does 150 mph, the Mi 35m does 150mph and its relatively cheaper. They both have night fighting capabilities, why do we keep on crying about the yanks blocking our purchases? Our foreign policy is inherently weak and we lack national defence/security strategy, that's why we are constantly being bullied. Would South Africans Handle the $9 million like that if it was the yanks that owned it? Look at Algeria and the debacle when about 60 expertriates of which most were from powerful countries were kidnapped, the Algerians made sure that no fly from any foreign country dared enter their airspace, putting it in lockdown. We on the other hand had to invite the yanks to our country, because of the chibok saga. The yanks were practically left to gather invaluable Intel about our nation and military assets, heck they even refused to share intelligence with our boys. The French who colonised Algeria were practically beg to go near the Algerian border, with a lot of diplomatic negotiations and pleading. After locking down their airspace, the Algerian special forces went in guns blazing and killed almost 20 of the hostages yet we didn’t ear any crap from the west about that operation till today, the only thing the Algerian foreign minister had to say was "we couldn’t allow ransom money to enter the terrorists hands to torment algerians so something had to be done”. After everything, the yanks packed their gears and left without doing jack. We wouldn't be in this position if after the Biafra wars we had started to harness those inventions from the Ibos. We could have upgraded Dicon to enviable standards , unlike what obtains now, where the only meaningful manufacturing going on in Dicon is reproductions of AK47 in this day and age where college students are manufacturing drones, heck we can't even manufacture military protective gears. Who are we deceiving. As predicted, GEJ is currently in the US, cap in hand begging the yanks to have mercy, where is our national pride and respect? I'm sure he would be smiling sheepishly while the yanks and Other African countries would be making fun of us. even ordinary Cameroon that doesn't have an airforce are claiming that they carried out strikes inside the Nigerian territory. I don't care whoever occupies the Aso Rock next year, as long as the person has balls of steel. |
ISpiksDaTroof: You're probably the biggest bullshiyyter and liar I met since I joined this forum. You might disagree with me, but you have no right whatsoever to call me a liar without substantiated burden of proof. if you've got any objections to the points mentioned, why cant you express your concerns without insults? If you have concrete evidence to dispute the information put forward, state it. The essence of divulging these things is to educate the ignorant enthusiasts about what we have and what we don't have. @Shymexx, I don't know the reason why they are keeping the acquisitions secret when we will all see it during the military air show |
shymexx: Can you please post pictures? These acquisitions are highly classified, getting the images are nearly impossible. But trust me, these acquisitions are confirmed part of the NAF inventory. Nobody knows the exact number of the 4th Gen fighter jets, I can only tell you the number of assets on ground based on my sources, I wouldn't include some assets that are still expected. e.g the Kfir is being muted as well, some NAF pilots were sighted evaluating them, another one is the Orders for Tavors for our Army boys and Night vision goggles as standard gear for the 7th division boys and further standardisation across the other divisions. These are not confirmed, but the 4th Gen Jets and Helos are in town. The information released on the US debacle was because of the attack helos, the plan was to get 40 units of helos for Ground assault and special forces/troops/hardware movement. We were considering the Cobras and Apache from Israel, but was blocked by the US. Before this, an initial 6 Mi-35M was due for delivery in August, me thinks the further request for more was based on the US sabotage. |
shymexx: Let's not kid ourselves, Nigeria doesn't have what it takes to defend itself, even against those little Francophone countries in West Africa - if the French can provide air-cover for them (something France will certainly do in a war). These toys can't shoot down anything. And all those aircraft you posted are obsolete.@Shymexx, it seems you are not in tune with the happenings in the Nigerian military. Well, based on my sources in the NAF, Nigeria now owns the following assets/airframes: - at least 8 Sukhoi Su-30, 4 airframes has been assembled as at last week Tuesday - at least 12 JF-17 Thunder - 8 Mi-35M, Mi-171Sh Terminator (mix of 40 ordered, 8 - 10 on ground). This is different form Mi-35 old variants - 7 ALX Super Tucano (4th gen avionics) Our AirForce inventory is: AIR ASSAULT Mi-171Sh Terminator NORMAL GROUND ATTACK AND ASSAULT ALX Super Tucano MB 339CD Alpha Jet Mi-24V/Mi-35P base models Mi-35M AIR SUPERIORITY, MULTIROLE FIGHTERS JF-17 Su-30 F-7 AirGuard |
arresa: It's not about helping our military bro, it's about being straightforward with their dealings with Nigeria. There was a request by Nigeria to purchase the cobra helicopters from Israel. The deal was blocked the U.S. We are talking about an acquisition that would greatly help our boys in the war against the Boko Haram goats. It's not like we are asking for free, we wanted to pay for the hardware. Now the question is, what's their game plan? Is this a payback for not supporting AFRICOM? |
Why was it only men who queued for an iPhone 6? Josh Warwick By Josh Warwick 2:45PM BST 19 Sep 2014 Let me be clear from the outset: I am not one for judging others before I’ve met them. But I make an exception when it comes to the misguided hordes who queue for hours, days or weeks for the ‘privilege’ of being among the first to own a new iPhone - or any other mass-produced gadget, book, album, toilet roll holder or whatever. The notion of human beings camping outside a shop with the sole aim of getting their hands on a product that will, within days, be as common as a tin of baked beans is a giant cocktail of wrongness and irrationality. The scenes in Regent Street and Covent Garden this morning were like a distorted version of the final days of the Soviet Union - only then they queued for bread, not a mobile telephone upgrade. But aside from the obvious question - what the goddam hell do you think you are doing? - there is something else puzzling about the demography of the pilgrims who have spent the last week kneeling before the altar of Apple: they are nearly all men. Which is all the more confusing when you consider that, according to this 2012 study, women are are increasingly becoming the tech-dominant gender. The report found females buy more smartphones than men and have the biggest input when purchasing a new TV. So what does today’s grotesque consumer circus say about the Y chromosome? Are men hard-wired to want to be first? Even when it's being the first to own something that will, soon after, be utterly ubiquitous? Perhaps it’s a testosterone-fuelled itch that must be scratched - a competitive urge for the man who, some of the pictures would suggest, never tasted glory on the sports field. Whatever the answer, it's a fairly desperate indictment on 21st century masculinity. Jameel Ahmed and Sam Sheikh waited outside the Apple Store in Covent Garden for a week To the men who have dedicated the last week of their lives to buying an iPhone 6 before anyone else - I say this: enjoy today. But remember that by tomorrow, the object of your fanaticism will be in the pockets of millions of others. And they didn't have to sleep in a tent to get it. Abuja – The Nigerian Army on Tuesday recovered three Hilux vehicles mounted with machine and anti-aircraft guns, one Mowag Armoured Personnel Carrier and other assorted arms and ammunition from insurgents, a statement said. The statement, issued by Brig.-Gen. Olajide Laleye, the Director of Army Public Relations, on Wednesday, said the recovery was made when troops engaged the insurgents in a fight at Konduga, Borno. Laleye said that the terrorists attacked Konduga on Tuesday night in an attempt to regain momentum they lost in the town but were denied the opportunity by vigilant and gallant troops. “During the fight, several terrorists were killed and those fleeing Konduga with gunshot wounds are being pursued,’’ he said. The army spokesman said that the troops morale and combat efficiency had remained high and added that further details about the engagement and supporting photographs were being awaited. According to him, the renewed morale, fighting spirit and combat efficiency of troops have been boosted by new strategies devised by the armed forces and support of the public. “Therefore, the Nigerian Army implores the public to continue to support the military and other security agencies engaged in the ongoing operation to rid Nigeria of blood-letting insurgents and ruthless religious extremists,’’ it said. Meanwhile, Laleye has clarified that the “widely reported Boko Haram attack on troops along Okene-Kabba road in Kogi was clearly not a Boko Haram related incident. “In reality, the incident was a case of armed robbery attack on troops of 322 Artillery Regiment who were travelling in seven Marcopolo buses to Kontagora for an engagement,’’ he said. Laleye explained that the robbers mistook the soldiers for normal civilian travellers, who plied the route. He said three soldiers, who sustained injuries during the robbery attack, were receiving appropriate medical care and would soon join their colleagues. “Therefore, the Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate its earlier warning on the danger of publishing unverified reports and attributing all criminal activities to Boko Haram terrorists. “The inherent danger in this brand of journalism is that it heightens public fear, endangers public safety and creates the wrong impression that Boko Haram is everywhere,’’ he said. CityNG: CityNG, 1 of 4 million. You don't have to publicise owning an iPhone bruv...you don't need it |
Seun: I have an iPhone 5C with a broken screen. I've been fantasizing about 'upgrading' it for a better camera, and touch ID, but the problem with iPhones in Nigeria is their abysmal support for 3G browsing in areas with weak network signals (e.g. most places in Nigeria and rural areas elsewhere). You can't force the iPhone to use 3G signals in such situations; it keeps switching between modes, making the browsing experience awful. The only reason I have an iPhone is that I really enjoy using it as a basic phone for making phone calls, sending SMS messages, taking pictures, etc. Browsing on the iPhone 5C is surprisingly enjoyable but I have to use an Android phone as a hotspot for the iPhone. So sad.I am similar to you in terms of experience, let me share my own experience. I had a window laptop then and the battery and ram wasn't all that good. I have always loved being different and like justifying my purchases, reason why I chose not to get the Macbook because of the price which wasn't justifiable. But the more I tried to get a laptop that has great battery and sleek design, the more i get disappointed. The closest I got was the Dell slim series, but the price point was very close to the Macbook. At the end of the day I had to settle for the Macbook, a decision i have not regretted till date. The decider was, why should I get a laptop that works like a mac when I could get the original thing? On the phone side of things, I hated the idea of being limited on the iphone. So, I became an unpaid android evangelist, denigrating the iPhone at every given opportunity, pointing out its flaws its limitations. I hated the iPhone so much that despite using the ipad, macbook pro, I stuck to my guns by getting the galaxy S2, then S3. But in all the android I got, something was always lacking somewhere every single time. I got the S4 with a view that it would afford me the user experience i so much crave, but I was disappointed with the overall experience on the Sammy that I had to uninstall the stock ROM and tried different options including kitkat, and Cyanogen Rom, but still not satisfied that I had to change the Galaxy after multiple issues. I got the iPhone 5s after much murmuring and surprisingly I loved the Iphone 5s cos of its niftiness and smooth UI, which was miles better than the rubbish on the Galaxy 4s. Fast-forward to may, I was given the HTC one m8 at the office, and this reminded of the pleasure of browsing with a bigger screen on a phone, but the user experience was still not as optimised as the Iphone's. Although I could use an ipad mini with bigger screen, I still need something a little moderate that would be mobile enough. Although I love the iPhone 5s, the screen was too small for browsing and I had to make do with the HTC for my browsing needs and media viewing, until now; the iPhone 6 was announced, and for the first time, I can get the big screen i so much crave and on the ios. This is why it was a no brainer for me if I wanted one or not, but there's a problem again. The dilemma is that if I get the Iphone 6 without getting for the Mrs, there would be war. So I had no choice but to order for 2 , and God help apple that the phone lives up to its billing else its bye-bye to iPhone till further notice, fingers crossed till 19th septemberI hope I didn't bore you with my rantings. |

iPhone 6 Plus vs Galaxy Note 3: 5 Things Buyers Need to Know 09/10/2014 By Cory Gunther Now that the iPhone 6 release has been confirmed, and all the details revealed, consumers are starting to weigh their options when it comes to buying a smartphone with a big display. The all new iPhone 6 Plus is the first iPhone to offer an alternative to the popular Samsung Galaxy Note lineup, and buyers will likely to comparing everything both flagship smartphones have to offer. The Samsung Galaxy Note has been an extremely popular device over the past few years, most notable the Galaxy Note 2 and last years Galaxy Note 3. We can only assume it’s what pressured Apple into finally releasing a bigger iPhone. Now that they’re both here, below we’ll go over five key differences that buyers will want to know. Read: iPhone 6 vs LG G3: What Buyers Should Know A new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is on the horizon, which is expected to be released in October, but for those potentially looking to buy a new phone this month the choice is between the new iPhone 6 Plus or the readily available and impressive Galaxy Note 3. If you can’t hold out for the Galaxy Note 4, below we’ve shared all the important details regarding the Note 3 vs the new iPhone 6 Plus. The Galaxy Note 3 is bigger than a 4.7-inch iPhone 6, but smaller than a 5.5-inch model. The Galaxy Note 3 is bigger than a 4.7-inch iPhone 6, but smaller than a 5.5-inch model. Leading up to the iPhone 6 release everything was a rumor. And while some were more concrete than others, the thought of Apple releasing a massive 5.5-inch iPhone seemed highly unlikely, not to mention a few rumors suggested it had been delayed or canceled. However, Apple took the stage yesterday and confirmed all the details, and showed the world its first phablet. We’ll call it the iPhablet. https://cdn.gottabemobile.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Galaxy-Note-3-vs-iPhone-6-2-620x411.jpg If you’re in the market for a new smartphone as the summer comes to a close, and can’t wait for the Note 4 and a few other devices to arrive later this year, there’s only a few choices for those interested in a big-screen smartphone. Lately more and more phones are increasing to sizes above 5-inches, and Apple is finally one of them. iPhone 6 Release Date As of right now, only one of these phones is available to purchase. Which is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 that’s readily available around the globe and from all major carriers in the United States. The iPhone 6 though, will be available to pre-order by the end of the week, and will be available sooner rather than later. Sprint, AT&T and Verizon iPhone 6 pre-order details arrive. In fact, Apple announced the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders will officially start on September 12th (Friday) and the smartphone will go on sale around the United States and across the globe on September 19th. This means that if you’re looking to get a new phone right now, the Galaxy Note 3 and its massive 5.7-inch screen is your best bet. Otherwise wait a few weeks for the iPhone 6, and then compare them both at a store near you. It’s also worth noting that new iPhone devices usually sell out quick and are in short supply and high demand, meaning buyers may not be able to get one on day one. You might want to place a pre-order just in case. Size If we’re going to compare the new iPhone 6 Plus to the Galaxy Note 3 there’s two main areas of importance. That is the size, and the display. Of course price and more are important, which we’ll also talk about below. However, size is a big deal, especially for someone that’s used to using a small iPhone for the past 3-4 years. The Galaxy Note 3 is a big phone. Its dimensions come in at 151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3 mm (5.95 x 3.12 x 0.33 in) and weights around 168 grams. It’s mostly made plastic, so it’s still rather lightweight. Here’s how that compares to the size of the iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone 6 vs iPhone 6 Plus screens are not the same. The bigger of the two iPhone options, the iPhone 6 Plus, comes in with dimensions of 158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1mm and weighs 172 grams. Essentially these are very similar phones in size, but the iPhone 6 is noticeable taller. That could make it hard for users with small hands to reach the top, but Android owners have been doing it without any problems for years. The iPhone 6 Plus is slightly taller than the Galaxy Note 3, but also a little thinner, and more narrow. Both devices are huge, and you’ll likely want to try it out in stores first before making a purchase, as a screen of that size isn’t for anyone. Myself included. https://cdn.gottabemobile.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/iPhone-6-vs-iPhone-6-Plus-620x349.jpg Display Another key factor is the display. While the iPhone 6 Plus is taller than the Galaxy Note 3 the screen is actually smaller. Apple’s new iPhone 6 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080p full HD display. Samsung’s option though, offers up a 5.7-inch 1920 x 1080p full HD AMOLED display. The iPhone 6 release date is rumored for September 19th. Samsung managed to keep the bezels around the screen rather thin, making the overall physical size of the device smaller than Apple’s, even though they offer a bigger screen. That may be one thing to consider when making a purchase, but at the same time many buyers will simply be happy with a bigger iPhone in general, and not concerned about the extra space gained by Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3. Samsung’s known for making quality displays, but so is Apple, so we’ll have to wait until the iPhone 6 release to fully compare the two side by side. It’s also worth noting the new Galaxy Note 4 has a 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Display, something Apple’s Retina HD screen can’t match, but again, that won’t be available until sometime in October. Price & Storage A big factor in any purchase decision is the price, and this is a huge thing you’ll want to consider with the new iPhone 6 compared to the competition. Most Android phones and everything from Samsung has a micro-SD slot, which as any Apple buyer knows, controls the internal storage and drives up the cost. The iPhone 6 Plus will cost more than the Galaxy Note 3, so you’ll need to decide if that’s worth it to you. Here’s the breakdown. iPhone 6 Plus 16GB – $299 iPhone 6 Plus 64GB – $399 iPhone 6 Plus 128GB – $499 Samsung Galaxy Note 3 16GB -$199 The iPhone 6 Plus is a big phone and now has an all-new storage option delivering 128GB of internal storage. This is another first for the iPhone, and will allow you to pack tons of HD games and movies into your phone. However, a 128GB iPhone 6 Plus is $499 after you sign a 2-year contract, and nearly $1000 outright. Ouch. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 comes with 16GB of internal storage, but you can get a 128GB micro-SD card for around $100, making it a $299 purchase that offers more storage than the $500 iPhone 6 Plus. That’s a huge difference, not to mention you can swap SD cards as you’d like, and have more than one, and those looking for tons of storage will want to heavily weigh this choice. Of course carrier payment plans in the US will make this a bit easier, but $499 on-contract is hard to swallow, no matter how you look at it. S-Pen & Software Comparing specs and processors on two different operating systems isn’t ideal, and trying to say which is better between Android and iOS isn’t worth the argument. To each his own. However, there are a few noteworthy differences between what the software these phones offer can actually do. For one, the Galaxy Note 3 S-Pen stylus is a great addition to a large screen, and may buyers love it. Whether you’re taking notes, capturing screenshots, editing photos, creating v-cards, or even drawing portraits. The S-Pen has tons of functionality that makes the Note 3 not just a content consumption device, but also a content creation device. There are a lot of good apps on the App Store, sure, but there’s no dedicated S-Pen for the iPhone 6 Plus. Multitasking is another one. Android has an excellent multi-tasking system, and of course the Note 3 lets you open two apps simultaneously using their Multi-Window mode. Rumors suggested a split-screen multitasking system could arrive for the iPad on iOS 8, but it didn’t. It’s safe to assume that for now it isn’t coming to the iPad, or the iPhone 6. At least not yet. Final Thoughts There is a lot more to consider when making a purchase, but these are a few of the important ones prospective buyers will want to know about, and be aware of. The Galaxy Note 3 is available from all major US carriers, and the iPhone 6 Plus will be too, obviously. Both devices have fingerprint sensors, awesome cameras with optical image stabilization (only the iPhone 6 Plus has OIS, not the regular iPhone 6) and much much more. |
