#EndSARS before it end youths

Another point is hunger strike. If the issue of food prices is not addressed, the govt might have something they can't control in few months cos not only the youths will protest, everyone - old or young will come out. Food is one of the essentials of life and and taking it out of people's reach is denying them right to live
Are Nigerians now almajiris to be protesting over food prices?
If a society degenerates to the level of protesting about basic things as food prices, it shows that that society has failed earlier to protest for better things.

Continue with the blind patriotism. It will only make matters worst. When Nigeria divides and Yorubas look back into the years they've kicked against the division, they will cry. The rate of development that will be witnessed in our respective countries after division will be so great. There's something about division... It usually comes up with some part of it excelling and being at peace compared with being together and remaining miserable just like Nigeria is today. This is the reality we must face. Thinking Nigeria can be fixed is just wishful thinking.

The Elders have absolutely nothing to offer. In a world that's gone digital, they still can't figure out how to keep our light steady. 24 hours light is a dream for most of the populace.

SARS can not be reformed. They will just move the hungry, angry men to new units. Nothing will change.

Cos as a nation, we are dead inside.
Say it loud until they hear. Fighting a symptom doesn't cure an ailment. It's easy for those daredevils to treat you inhumanely because they're criminals adept in the crime. Their goal is to strike terror into the youth so they appear helpless. Since when have you seen the SARS go after terrorist herdsmen? Not even once.
Carry on with the protest but know that it is not the solution or even close to being the solution.

If you think disintegration of Nigeria starts with a protest for such, then you lie. Major protests start from the unlikeliest of sources like we've seen in the US, Tunisia, Egypt, Hong Kong etc. It can be on record that Nigeria disintegrated because people rose up against SARS - Dukeprince50's darlings - but to expect an outright protest for the disintegration is delusion.
Very true... Carry on with the protest and know that we support you. We will join when the whole sickness is to be cured.

For the first time in Nigeria's history Nigerians are protesting on a very important issue that affects everyone down south. The SARS unit of the Nigerian police force has for years operated with impunity. Killing, raping, kidnapping and illegally arresting people. This happens all the way from Lagos state down to ebonyi state. Across the south, there's no one that has absolutely anything good to say about them. The youths are tired and are coming out enmass to protest for this deadly unit to be scrapped and I am seeing pro Igbo threads on nairaland. For what exactly? Someone said igbos should not join the protests. Do you have an idea of how many youths are killed in Igbo land by SARS. Havent you read of the exploits of akwuzu SARS. These people are a menace. That they haven't gotten to you yet does not mean that your time won't come. Stop the tribalism threads and let's focus on an issue disturbing us all down south.
We are not against #ENDSARS but will not join in the protest because it is miniscule to the whole problem before us. We're in support of you from our homes and business places. If you talk about coming out for the disintegration of Nigeria, this is when you'll see millions of us.
WE SUPPORT YOU IN YOUR #ENDSARS PROTEST FROM OUR HOMES AND PLACES OF BUSINESS.
Politics › Re: Three Reasons Why Igbos Should Not Participate In Endsars Protest by Yujin(m): 9:02am On Oct 10, 2020
gidgiddy:
I have often said it here on Nairaland that SARS is a state sponsored terrorist organisation and I stand by it. They have killed and brutalised many innocent people.

However, I think that we Igbos should not participate in the Endsars protest despite the fact that many Igbos have been the innocent victims of SARS.

1) Endsars is pointless. The government of Buhari, which we all know is more for Northern interests, will not end SARS. The extra-judicial killings, torture and brutality of SARS is mainly in the South of Nigeria, it hardly affects the North. SARS cannot be ended without Buhari's permission and if it is not affecting the North, why would he end it?

2) Even if SARS is ended or scrapped, will that really change any thing? The Police, Army, Navy, DSS and other armed forces will still be brutalising and killing innocent Nigerians daily just like SARS. Wether you end SARS or not, other arms of the armed forces will still be doing exactly what SARS is doing. The protest should not have been Endsars, it should have been 'end all armed forces brutality and illegal killing'

3) Nigerians can be hypocrites. Many of those protesting Endsars are the same people who kept silent when different branches of the armed forces were shooting and killing unarmed IPOB protesters. Some of them are happy when they see unarmed innocent Biafran protesters killed, tortured, made to lay lay down in muddy water, dehumanised and detained. They dont care because its not their tribe or Region. They only remember that injustice is a bad thing when SARS is doing it to their people. They dont know that the injustice you support or ignore today may become the injustice that may be done to you tomorrow

I think that Igbos should not participate in Endsars protest for these reasons
Nna, you are 100% spot on. I understand that our thought process is quite different from that of those who criticize this post of yours for you were able to put down your points concisely.
Let me make it clearer for them may be they can get it. Igbos won't protest against SARS despite being among the biggest casualties of those state backed criminals because it will be akin to just attempting to clear just one symptom among many of a chronic illness. After SARS is shut down, what about the regular police, DSS and the notorious Nigerian Army who grossly violate the lives of our people? We're not foolish to protest for just one thing. We believe that when Nigeria is divided, then all state securities can be handled if they misbehave. Let it be known that we refused to join the protest because it is small compared to the bigger problem facing our people.
As for those calling us names and cowards, we don't care. We've faced the soldiers countless times therefore ordinary protest against SARs is nothing. We're waiting for destiny defining moments on a national level and not some protest from criminal mufty wearing SARS personnel.
This is our position.

Donarozzi:
The whole of Anioma is Igboland. Some Anioma indigenes work so hard to disprove their Igboness, and such attitudes are usually a result of the social and psychological impact of the Benin kingdom as well as the African man's tendency to value a foreign phenomenon against his own indigenous phenomenon. Certainly, we know that Edo and other people migrated into Anioma and became indigenes, but their numbers are insignificant compared to the Igbo indigenes. We may portion Anioma into three Igbo cultural areas: Enuani, Ukwuani, and Ika. And to put it to statistical perspective, we may find out that Enuani is 96% Igbo, Ukwuani 97% Igbo, and Ika 80% Igbo. Specifically on Ika: the eastern part of Ika is about 90% Igbo origin while the western part of Ika is about 70% Igbo origin. That is how Ika area averages out to 80% Igbo. Tallying the numbers together, we may say that Anioma is 91% Igbo by ancestry. Generally, for the seven Igbo states, this is the estimate in terms of the ancestry of the indigenes:

Abia: 95% Igbo
Anambra: 96% Igbo
Anioma: 91% Igbo
Ebonyi: 96% Igbo
Enugu: 95% Igbo
Imo: 98% Igbo
Rivers: 94% Igbo (that is, Igbo areas of the state)
You're mostly correct though I disagree with some percentage.
Enugu is 97%(certainly higher than Anambra), Imo is 100%,
Abia is 99%
Ebonyi is 96%
Anioma is less than 90% (Ika should be 80%, Enuani is 92% and Ukwuani should be 92%.
This tendency of foreign phenomenon is worse among Ndigbo. Is it not even affecting our language today? A language of about 40million speakers yet has no newspaper publishing news in that language. We so much cherish foreign things of value.
Most Anioma kings who claim blood line with the Benin do so just to get prestige and appear better than the other Anioma communities. Isn't it the same thing the King of Agbor did by changing his inherited title of Obi to Dein? Recently, his stewards have started copying the styles of other royalties from distant lands just to make it appear that he's so unique or bigger than other royalties from Anioma. It's so funny.

When you go to the northern part of Nigeria, you see kings from the minorities there dressed like Fulani emirs but they're Christians. Why is it so? Influence! Those of them who are very conscious of their identity refuse to dress like emirs. That's how it happens Mr.
Most of those kings are actually descendant of Okpara-Ukwus who used Benin influence to legitimize their powers as Obis. This is why every town has it's own Obi. Some communities got their own kings of recent(20th century). Umunede is one of such communities.

I know. I just asked him to see his response. Some things are very clear but humans especially from this part of the world will prefer to lie about it.
As at the 19th century, only two powers were recognised on the River Niger- Eze Obi Ossai of Aboh and the Attah of Igala. Missionaries first settled at Aboh before changing their choice location to Onitsha because of certain factors among them; the frequency of overflooding in Aboh and Onitsha being a spot with direct access to the larger portion of Igboland. The Obi of Onitsha was not grand owing to the infancy of the town. It was not formed by conquest. So you see that Benin had 0 presence on that part of River Niger. Note that Asaba is equally around the location and they have no record of any Benin lordship or relationship.
The case of these Anioma communities that claim Benin(Prince or warrior) origin are age old fallacies that have gradually appeared as a true story.

Before they started that Eze chime was one of their prince, then that one backfired when historians started to claim that if the prince has an Igbo name definitely the father must be an Igbo. The historians started entertaining the possibility of an Igbo ruling the area Bini is and maybe the area was part of Igboland, they hid and later resurfaced today with matriachy because onitsha port is in active.
If only this people know that Ndigbo don't give a fck about made up histories. We move by contemporary issues and above all we need expansion now based on the population density and as the rule of nature goes, the bigger swallows the tiny and Benin will surely be part of the larger igboland whether the inhabitants like it or not.

Politics › Re: Onitsha Begun With Migration Of Its People From Benin Kingdom by Yujin(m):
It's so funny how some people wish to perpetuate this Benin origin for a lot of communities in Anioma. I was watching a video of the Issele Ukwu people and how one grown up man was saying they're the first community found by a Benin Prince and he pointed towards a supposed burial site of the kings that ruled Issele Ukwu. I looked towards the burial site and behold, one of the names written there was 'Alumona'. I laughed because I could connect some dots. Nsukka peope should be familar with that name.
I discovered the fallacy of this Benin touted origin and the damage it has caused. I've now seen the problem... in the course of intra-ethnic superiority, elites of these communities sought to present themselves as being greater/more influential than the rest by claiming they have blood links with the Oba of Benin. This is why those names don't add up. One European explorer commented similar thing when he said that some of these communities claimed to be from Benin but today (as at the time he met them 19th century) they were all Igbo speaking. The Eshans who were the actual first brothers of the Bini people have Enogies and their names and language is similar to that of Benin but our 'poor' Anioma communities have no proofs to convince anyone.
Back to the topic, Bini has no links with Onitsha save for the migration that happened by Igbo people who initially resided closer to the capital of the Benin Empire fleeing deep into Igbo hinterland. The Igalas operated along the River Niger just like other Igbos did too. Saying it was just the Igalas that helped them cross the River Niger is far from the truth. That area was already a full Igbo territory with other Igbo fishermen. The Igalas came there for fishing and trading purposes too. One can't just say it was the Igalas as though the Igbos didn't know how to paddle canoes.
Conclusively, everyone should learn about the danger of falsifying history for selfish reasons. All these Anioma communities were Igbo communities hence they speak a variant of the Igbo language. Other ethnic groups settled among them just like some Igbos settled among their neighbouring communities. Let the elders learn to say the truth.
