Car TalkRe: Catalytic converter with the sensor And Thermostat For Camry 1999 by ZIMDRILL(m): 2:07pm On Jul 14, 2016
ojuolu:
Expert in the house please help with information on implication of removing the above mentioned parts from a camry 1999. I observed car is consuming fuel like nothing i have seen before. Cant these item contribute to this situation? please also note that the car temperature guage hardly rise at all even after 30 minutes of driving in the morning.
Please what can i do?
those two affect mpg big time

in simple terms your engine is running cold, hence the fuel computer management system keeps adding more fuel to the mixture, as way of making your car reach fuel efficient operating temperature, thermostat is there to keep the maximum fuel efficient operating temperature. since there is no thermostat in your car it will never reach that level of FUEL EFFICIENT OPERATING LEVEL which is on average 85 to 89 degrees

then also there is no reading from the O2 sensor which is works with the CAT so your car doesnt have a reading from the exhaust fumes, the reading from the exhaust fumes also makes the car adjust the fuel mixture i.e running rich or lean

those two things drops your mpg

Before the temp jumps vey high under 5 min of driving but after disconnecting and conecting the batery, the temprature rise is gradual.. Attains a high temperatue rise after about 45 mins of driving. The car doesnt overheat while idle and even with the Ac on... Plese how do i reolve this overheating isue .. Whats the implication of this P1721 error code as per this overheating in my infiniti fx35 2005 model

Check the fan blade, part might have been broken, u need to change it.
fan blade broken ?

even if the fan is connect direct (nigerian dog style still it wouldnt make the engine vibrate ) that wouldnt make the engine vibrate aka shake thee is no way the fan would manage to make the engine vibrate

hook it up to machine and make sure all the HT leads are Ok (that is if it has HT leads)

ponpin234:
so does that mean when the alternator is rotating, it starts producing current for the remaining electrical appliances to use in the carhuh
yes when the car is running (alternator rotating ) the alternator produces current that is feed to the battery and the battery supplies all electrical componets of the car
Car TalkRe: What Makes ALTERNATOR Rotate!!!!! by ZIMDRILL(m): 7:54pm On Jul 05, 2016

Tnx alot...sumtin relating to that....so that means dah (in the case of the bicycle) an alternator needs sumtin loke a motor to start spinning it first before you can supply your power to the alternator ryt??
you dont supply power to alternator it produces power

in a car electric system the alternator is supplied power for 1 reason, to show the battey sign/not charging sign on the dashboard

owk...tnx alot for ur tym and replies

Wah if we hav a situation where by...we don't hav an engine only a motor, ba3 nd alternator...is it possible to connect the ba3 to the motor and make it spin the alternator or we should connect the ba3 to the alternator

Tnx for ur reply
what would be the point if the engine is not running ?

but yes a alternator can be made to spin by another motor to generate power

an alternator doesnt need to be connected to a power source for it to spin

are you taking a scenario like this

Car TalkRe: What Makes ALTERNATOR Rotate!!!!! by ZIMDRILL(m): 4:12pm On Jul 04, 2016
an alternator is driven by a belt either direct belt to the crankshaft pulley or via a second belt to that still connect to crankshaft pulley and other part like AC pump or powering steering

when you start the engine the starter, draws enough power to crank the engine and the engine starts (batteries have rating what they called CCA aka COLD CRANK AMPS) generally a discharge of power that a battery can do in cold weather

so the weather and CCA plays a role is starting a car especially in cold seasons

once the car starts the engine is rotating and the belts are now driving or spin water is attached to the belt, waterpump, steering pump, alternator etc, the alternater now start charging the battery, remember the battery lost some few volts when it started the car and also, the battery is now supplying power to all the elcectric while the car is in dle or even driving especially the ignition coils, there are firing while in idle or drive

aslong the car is running the alternator is charging the battery and the alternator is limited to certain volts that it can charge it protects the battery from being over charged, the battery wouldnt last long if over charged all the time

an alternator can nit turn on its own its always driven by a belt

Actually its the same for nigerians. You can use the idp or normal licence for 1yr too
there is a difference

i can use for year if i dont want to exchange for british one, where as you guys you can only use it for a year then you have to apply for a provisional licence aka leaners and relearn UK driving untill u pass

with us we just send it to exchange to british one

i dont how it works for zimbabweans in US

I removed the battery from the car and took it to a roadside battery charging shop. It was fully charged

its either your alternator is not charging or you battery is not holding charge

normal a battery sign will come on by the dashboard meaning the alternator is not charging

Car TalkRe: International Driver's Licence/permit by ZIMDRILL(m): 8:34pm On Jun 30, 2016

Hi, the international drivers licence is a different type of licence that can be used outside your country for one year and after that its invalid. Most countries are into some form of agreement thereby making them recognize an international drivers licence. its different from the normal licence being used in your home country. The IDP cannot be used in your home country. Its always for international use.
ok thats

different for us zimbabweans in uk

with my zimbabwean licence am allowed to drive for year, i dont need to have a so called international driving licence to drive in UK but with my normal zimbabwean licence am allowed by UK laws to drive for a year, then forced by law (UK) to change to a UK licence

changing i dont need to sit a or retest like you nigerians (UK laws doesnt allow nigerians to change but they have to retested) i guess its becoz you use the american way of driving whereas zimbabwe we use the UK system

Car TalkRe: Significance Of Mileage by ZIMDRILL(m): 6:47pm On Jun 30, 2016
Curdlebug:
Whats the purpose of asking for the mileage of a vehicle, or should i say what mileage is too much or doesnt equate to a sound engine, also how is the reading on the meter board interpreted?? Thanks
mileage tell you roughly how the car has been used

imagine a 2016 car with 90000miles its means the car has been driven beyond the average 10000 miles per year, so things that are meant to wear off under normal driving and under a certain period eg ball joints would be worn out before the manufatcurer recommended period to check

but high mileage is not always a bad thing aslong there is a service history book with each service and garage receipts for other repairs

I use a Toyota Corrolla Verso. It has a mullti mode transmission_both manual and automatic.Hence it has a clutch which sometimes get hot, makes the gear automatically enters Neutral and stop.According to the manual,if allowed to cool after 15minutes it will be fine.
That has happened many times and it will resume work. However, this time the gear enters Neutral every 3minutes making it difficult to drive.

Expert, please advise. what could be wrong? If you know a qualified hand who had dealt with a similar situation, kindly share the contact too
its a common thing in car with such gearbox this is based on two models of car that we once worked on a vauxhall zafira and honda civic

the best thing get the car scanned and see what transmission come up

Hi everyone, I need your help urgently, my car brake has gone soft, the brake pedal goes all the way down before the car stops.
The problem started when I asked my mechanic to change my brake pads and linings (rear brake), ever since then this problem has started, I have changed the master cylinder, the salvo (not sure of the spelling), I have changed the front fly wheels. Yet the problem still remains.
Driving the car is like an accident waiting to happen, I had someone bleed all 4 calipers yesterday, still the problem persists.
Please help me, Gazzuz IdaraCHODB and all.

The car is a ford escape 2004 model.
if there is no leak, then they simply need bleeding

especially if the rear wheel cylinder pop out and brake fluid dripped off, this can happen while changing the brake shoes aka (the ones you called lining )

Dottore:
the most likely issue coming from the BrainBox of the gear box, it is sending wrong signals to the entire gearbox
mechanism and this will eventually degenerate to the burning out of the fiber assembly inside the transmission compartment.

It is a problem that is very common to Honda products. start gathering money for the replacement of the Gbox Brainbox which shouldn't be more than 10,000 but the replacement often is a 50/50 stake depending on the mechanic that handled it.
most of the time its the otherway round faulty sensor sending wrong signals to ECU
Car TalkRe: My Mbenz Wahala Gurus Plz Come In And Help by ZIMDRILL(m): 6:41am On Jun 24, 2016
knc:
I bought this car
(ML350 2006) by Feb. ending this year drove around a little and parked it coz i had to travel down to lagos now im back yesterday turned on the engine it picked car was parked about 2months and few weeks) now After allowing it to stabilize i discovered that my AC is no longer working. and started thinking towards the Fuse direction but my technicians after several touching/scanning around the fuse box it didnt come up.(i don enter wahala)

Now I visited an ac workshop based on high recommendation from friends oo. the guy did some direct connection inside the engine and the A/C fan started blowing i was happy that is now working unfortunately it was not cooling only the fan sound (that heavy duty sound)

The Guy said oga your compressor needs to be checked oo. I do not have option naa so i said "carry on" the condenser was removed followed by the compressor and behold the compressor has gone stiff not turning at all. Haba what could be the cause naa

After long talk and lecturing the end point na oga you go buy new compressor and condenser. Since I saw the situation of the compressor i decided to follow up to changing both the compressor and condenser.

New once was brought and fixed the guy tested it from his direct connection and it was chilling then he coupled stuffs he loosed. i turned the AC ON from inside but same issue not chilling (haba what is this naaaa i nearly cried)

he said my AC system is now working but since its not coming up when I turn on from inside that some connections abi LINE has to be made from under the passenger side to the bonnet IM NOW TIRED PLZ AM I STILL ON TRACK WITH THIS REPAIRING.

The A/C guy also said that its best i arrange my fan to be blowing constantly as Nigerian weather is hot. I started thinking how do i do this anywhere i pass that heavy duty sound will be blowing

Because it was getting late He advice me to go and come back today i drove home but have been thinking then i decided to ask Nlanders for help and suggestion. Im in owerri imo state. Now my questions are:

1 Should I allow him to do his connection from under the passenger side or is there another way for it?
2 Should I allow my AC fan to be blowing constantly as he suggested?

Awaiting your comments and suggestions thanks.
you are a question you have an answer already

he is suggestion a bypass which is not how its should operate

he is doing a quess work on what it wrong
Car TalkRe: Custom Wahala For Every Car User :general Opinion Needed by ZIMDRILL(m): 5:55pm On Jun 22, 2016
sultaan:
Well in Nigeria, there is a format that allows you to clear your goods yourself, but since the custom officers get kickback by acting inept, the agents come in to "help" navigate through the "highly" sophisticated process of clearing a CAR.

It seems the more complicated this process it the more money made on the side.

Remember there is no law that establishes agents, not part of the government, there access to the port should be the same as everyone else, but in Nigeria you have to go through them for anything dealing with the customs. It is a relationship that only benefits both parties.

Any car smuggled to Nigeria has had duty paid in another country because Nigeria is dysfunctional.
i get what you are saying but the relationship benefits one side the clearing agent, all you need is patiences clear it yourself it makes your life easier and you save yourself lots of money

clearing agents have sort of gave everyone a picture that its not easy to do it yourself when it is easy, just remember a clearing agent adds his/her fee on put what you pay, so why save yoursel those pennies and also get to know the procedure and every paperwork. An then customs officers on the road wont say sh--it about paying less duty etc
