Car TalkRe: Educated Or Uneducated Mechanic? Which Is Better? by ZIMDRILL(m): 11:53am On Oct 28, 2016
pafestula:
Experience is the best teacher, education is overrated in Africa.

Other parts of the world values experience/talent and that's why they are full of innovations, but here we kill talents and promote porn stars in the name of beauty whatever "MISS Anambra" and compensating them with brand new car etc, but ignore those that exhibit talents, like we do read here how some built a car, plane etc.

Bill Gate is not the most brilliant in the world.

Steve Jobs nko?

What about C Ronaldo ?

Messi ?

Operah Winfrey?

Even Seun Osewa and so on, they are making it on their own, while many Msc holders are kidnappers, etc
i think he means educated in the field

all those you mentioned are educated in their line of field

eg a road side mechanic will say the 02 sensor is no big deal but a educated will know the effects to your pocket and engine life span
Car TalkRe: 5 Things You Shouldn’t Do When Driving A Manual Car. by ZIMDRILL(m): 12:04am On Oct 28, 2016
milestonejnr:
SOURCE: http://nolongtalk.com/driving-manual-wrongly-5-things-shouldnt-driving-manual-car/

As it stands now and with the current trend in car technology, majority of drivers will give you 1001 reasons why automatic cars are better than manual cars. However, there are different strokes for different folks; some petrol heads still stick to the good old manual transmission. They just want to be in control. I’m one of them.

You may have been unintentionally messing up your transmission with the way you handle it. Be it as it may, I’m here to help you in my own little way.

Relax, read, assimilate and put it to practice.

Here are 5 things you shouldn’t do if you drive manual transmission.

#1. Do not leave your car in gear when you have no intention to move.

You might be wondering why on earth you shouldn’t do this. It is very simple.

It is bad to do so because when you leave it engaged in a gear, your clutch will suffer from unnecessary wear and tear.

When the clutch is depressed, three main parts of the clutch press against the other – the spring, the bearing, and the diaphragm. This will gradually wear out.

So, next time you’re warming your car, at the stop light, have no intention of moving ASAP when the engine is cranked, just move the gear lever to the Neutral position in order not to overwork or stress your clutch.

#2. Do not rest you hand don the gear lever.

All those times you have been forming gangster, cruising your car with one arm on the steering and the other comfortably resting on the lever, you have been getting it all wrong.

This one is particularly a bit surprising, but it is true. It is bad.

The weight of your arm can actually cause the parts responsible for gear shifting to rub against each other. This wears out your selector fork (transaxle shift forks). This on the long run might make your car start jumping out of gear.

Do your gear shift and take back your hand back to the steering wheel. It is also a good driving habit to leave both hands on the wheel for proper control.

#3. Do not floor you throttle/gas pedal when your engine is at low RPM.

Behind the scene, a lot is happening in a manual transmission. Flooring your throttle at a low RPM is unhealthy to the engine. By so doing, you tell the engine to accelerate as hard as it can. This brings much stress to the engine; it makes the engine work really hard.

Instead of flooring the throttle at a very low RPM, just downshift – move to a lower gear.

#4. Do not use the clutch to hold your car on a hill.

I have heard many people call this ‘clutch engagement’. I don’t know how it came to be anyway.

This is the habit of using the clutch and throttle simultaneously so it could act as brake to avoid rolling back when in a hilly terrain.

When you do this, you are actually burning out the friction material on your clutch disk. Avoid this.

Use the conventional break and the handbrake (E-brake) in worst case scenarios.

#5. Do not rest your foot on the clutch.

This makes your clutch not to be fully engaged. It causes wearing out of the clutch. It might also cause you car not to putting down full engine power.

Good luck and shift safely!
am sure this was written by an american (automatic drivers)

Car TalkRe: Does Comprehensive Auto Insurance Covers Personal Drivers by ZIMDRILL(m): 7:11am On Oct 22, 2016
Ladipodeal:
Was asking an insurance company sales agent series of question and he mentioned that comprehensive insurance does not cover a 3rd party like driver or mechanic in cases of theft. He said only close family members like ones wife and children covered.
The insurance company happens to be one of the most popular and even partners with UBER where most cars are being driven by 3rd party.
Anybody with any experience or the sales person was wrong.
in simple terms insurance covers any person on the policy so if you want to put your driver it can cover both you and your driver or driver wife/husband

the mechanic should have his/her insurance thats cover him driving clients cars aka a business insurance policy

there are type of policy that cover one to drive other people cars but are expensive eg a policy that cover you and any car you drive and would be comprehensive

Really?.... can you name two countries?....and don't try naming Nigeria, or Ghana, or South Africa, or Canada, USA or Germany.
do you know the meaning of international law ?

'a body of rules established by custom or treaty and recognized by nations as binding in their relations with one another'

wearing seat belts is part of road safety laws that are constituted by each individual country road and highway rules, hence they differ country to country eg in UK every child below 12 years old or 135cm tall must be child seat or boster seat, whereas in In some European countries this height limit is 150cm.
Car TalkRe: Why Don't Passengers At The Back Seat Use Seatbelts? by ZIMDRILL(m): 11:01pm On Oct 20, 2016
Originalsly:
Internationally... wearing seat belt is a must for front seat.... back seat it's optional... not against the law. Like someone said earlier... front seat passengers are wayyy more at risk.... the same reason for air bags for front passenger and driver only.
dont lie

there is nothing called internationally when it comes to rear passenger wearing a seat belt

by law all occupants of a car must wear a seat belt

there is more risky for front occupants to fly our of the window screen than the rear passengers

most rear passengers would slam on the back of the front seat but the middle rear passenger might fly through the window screen or end up being in the front

Car TalkRe: Lagos Busy Residents! Here's A Plan Checking Your Car's Fluid Level(s) by ZIMDRILL(m): 5:59pm On Oct 17, 2016
TRYGO:
@Z. Check the following daily, asides your fluids:

*engine oil. Don't assume its OK, even though you seem not to have oil leaks.
*tyre pressures.
*radiator coolants, and so much more.
You want more details on daily checklist, Google it out. You'll get innumerable items to look out for. My specifics in the post is on daily oil checks. Like I said, you can extend it to other areas. I think it would be cool, to check the transmission, brake and power steering fluids, simultaneously, since you're already at the hood area. That makes sense to me.

I might not have specified DAILY CHECKS in the headline. But when you read through the entire post, you should be able to decipher what I'm saying.
Thanks for your huhhuhs though. That was cool.
you are talking to mechanic

daily checks on oil no no

if your are toping oil weekly than there something wrong with your car
Car TalkRe: Lagos Busy Residents! Here's A Plan Checking Your Car's Fluid Level(s) by ZIMDRILL(m): 4:16pm On Oct 17, 2016

@zimdrill. You do some checks daily, whether you've got leaks or not.
Definitely there's what's called a daily, weekly, monthly, and even a yearly checklist. You're doing all that, to help you cut cost.
Hope you know that. You just choose which you want. A daily, or a monthly plan, depends on ya, and your car too.

Thanks a 1000$.
checking daily means your car is not good working order

tell me what needs to be checked daily
Car TalkRe: Lagos Busy Residents! Here's A Plan Checking Your Car's Fluid Level(s) by ZIMDRILL(m): 1:16pm On Oct 17, 2016
you sound as if its an everyday thing to check the levels

roughly it should be once a month thing depending on the mileage your do per day

eg if your do 30miles per day most check levels every two weeks

this scenario is based on car which as no leaks etc

Car TalkRe: Car Door Key Tampered With Tech Says Change Central Lock by ZIMDRILL(m): 6:54am On Oct 17, 2016
Nyceguy92:
Please I need help with what an auto body technician advised us recently.

Our family 2000 Honda Shuttle(European edition of Honda Odyssey) driver side door was recently tampered with by an u known person to gain entry.
After that, the door key could no longer enter the key hole as it was damaged.
In fact, doing so risks the key getting seized in the key hole.

Normally, unlocking the trunk/booth with the key unlocks all the doors, too.

Problem now is when the trunk is unlocked as usual, other doors will unlock but the tampered door will not unlock.
If the door is just closed, it can be opened from both inside and outside via the handles.

The technician said to change the central lock of the driver door. Is he correct?

How does the mechanical act of damaging the door key affect that door's central lock mechanism?
Could it be that one of the rods is off its latch?

Thanks for your time.

P/S: Car has no security or remote opener. Just key for doors and ignition.
i dont know why you opened this thread in your case from your discription yes the mechanic damage somehow affected the locking mechanism all you need is simple further investigation open the door panel to check what got affected
Car TalkRe: Is It Possible For A Car Doing 120/km To Overtake Another At The Same Speed? by ZIMDRILL(m): 3:17am On Oct 17, 2016
ableguy:
Can a car going at the speed of for instance 120km/ph overtake another car doing the same speed? I have argued about this on several occasions, because I believe the speed clock or odometer should be like a clock that's always accurate and no clock goes faster than others.
I know car engine, horsepower and capabilities differ. But then I believe a car going at the same speed can't overtake the other.
If I am doing 120 km/hr for another car to overtake me it must be doing at least 125 or 130, car gurus in the house please help.
In simple terms no

But speedometer are not accurate and also the size of the tyres affect the accurancy of the speedometer

Back to your question aslong both cars have been calibrated to measure the actual speed they wouldnt overtake each other
Car TalkRe: Engine refused to start.. . Urgent Help Needed by ZIMDRILL(m): 12:55am On Oct 17, 2016
When you buy a replacement ECU

1 the ECU should be from the same extact car as yours eg engine size and year etc

2 you buy the ECU and the key itself, otherswise you will either throw away the ecu you just bought or go to a proper key program who will program the ECU to your old key.

3 make sure you have knowledge of your immobiliser in your car eg some audis and bmw you cant just buy and ecu the and they key, audi you need buy the full kit i.e ECU, key and the instrument cluster there are all programmed to work as unit if you only buy the ECU and key the car will never start no matter what, then bmw you buy the key, main ECU & security reader ECU

So in your case most likely you needed the ECU and key or else get your old get programmed to ECU you bought but the ECU has to be from a car with is exact as yours model, Engine size and yours

Depending on the knowledge of your mechanic and auto electrian (rewire) you might spend lots of money in wild goose chase

The green immobiliser key symbol is totally absent from the instrument cluster.
Is it safe to assume the vehicle does not have an immobiliser or?
Give us the details of your car

Year and engine size

And describe how the dashboard light used to behave when car was still driving

Normally when you turn the ignition on the immobiliser and other signs like abs & airgbag come on and 2or 3 seconds later they switch off "its a self diagnostic test" if those sensors are not faulty eg abs the abs light will stay for immobiliser not recognising a car the immibiliser sign will be flashing, in your case you are saying it doesnt even come on (gives the year of your, mode and engine size)

So in your case since you tried to jump doublr start the car double check your fuses (someone here was tell people wrong producer of jump starting a car) you might have used wrong menthod

About being there but the key sign or immobiliser must go off when it recognise the key, it shouldnt appear when you start the car or when you just turn on the ignition

Double check fuses might have blown some during jump starting
