The mask not only protect you, they also protect others esp if ure asymptomatic. Corona no dey show for face. If everyone is wearing masks even not n95, transmission should be reduced.

My hope is that Lagos lock down was rather quick and there is not too much politicking over coronavirus.Just look at what is happening in America. Also there is not a lot of interstate travel in Nigeria. Im praying it will be effective. I My greatest fear now is FCT and the politicking that goes on there. Were Abba Kyari's traced and tested or are they to big and powerful to be subject to tests.

The daily count doesnt matter anymore it wil keep going up for nothlng as mere figures.Covid entered Africa since last year 2019, confirmed it does not kill black man lik whites, if yu treat black man well lik d white people care for their citizens. grin
Stop spreading misinformation. There is not research showing that blacks are unaffected. In fact in black populated areas in the U. S African Americans and Africans have a higher mortality rate than Whites. I was checking a map yesterday and the mortality rate in Nigeria is still on the lower side. However, our health system can get overwhelmed pretty quickly if the infection rates skyrockets. Lagos is the epicenter. LASG needs to enforce mask wearing and wearing them correctly and also provide free masks. And FG needs to provide Palliatives especially in Hotspots because people will disobey the lock down if they are hungry and confirm cases and crime will then increase.

Oya exponential growth, let's go! Our testing will not be able to keep up. That's how it happened in other countries and it will happen here too, we're just at the start of the curve.
I don't think so. That our response was very quick. Even faster than America. You should also remember that Nigerians don't travel around the country alot. We don't even have many airports. I think Lagos and Ogun and other SW states need to strictly enforce mask wearing and also try to provide free masks. The problem the west is facing is they did not enforce people to wear mask especially in hotspots. You have to attack the pandemic from all angles. COMPULSORY MASK wearing in Hotspots and possibly the entire country if possible. 2) Continued social distancing and hand washing through the country 3)Temporary Lock down especially in Hotspots. You can't lock down the country forever. No interstate travel from Hotspots except essentials 4)Contact tracing and Isolation.

Until we have viable economies in Africa similar to America, similar to Germany. Until we have countries like Nigeria and Tanzania etc develop and the leaders can actually command respect on a global scene and supply aids to foreign countries outside the continent. Until we have good African leaders and are self sufficient in trade. Until we learn and accept that Africa has been pillaged and currently managing the short end of the stick from globalization. Until Africans learn to develop Africa and favor their own kind more. Until all these happen people of African descent all over the world including even well to do African Americans, the Oprahs, the Jayzs in U. S will keep facing this shi.it.

I will tell you that Nigeria is right now the greatest disappointment to people of African descent in this globalization Era.

Audio donations. If Dangote wants to help he can donate flour, sugar, pasta, rice from his numerous companies. Or what stops Otedola from teaming up with Adenuga to feed helpless Nigerians for 2 weeks and then Indimi and Alakija takes the next 2 weeks. But no. They prefer to give FG audio donations that will be squandered. Any Church or Mosque still asking its regular members for tithe or offering in this period is nothing but heartless.

If just 10 cases of death have been recorded since all these while, I personally don't think its worth the troubles. Far more than 10 die everyday either by road accident or by bandits or men in uniforms or by other undermined illnesses or by the combination of all. I really don't support the idea of extended total lockdown...especially in states like Osun where there has not been any new cases of the virus for over 10 days. Think about it.....
We need to be really careful. The state I live in America doesn't have up to 10 million residents yet there are already 15000 cases. Lagos needs to be cautious. Our population is over 20 million and we don't have enuff doctors and hospital facilities. Our cases are low now. And lets pray it continues to be so. There are some very ignorant people in Nigeria that are calling it audio coronavirus. They don't even believe corona is a real thing. So we need to be very careful with our utterances.

Health › Re: The Coronavirus Seems To Like Cold Weather by 12inchess: 3:25pm On Apr 06, 2020
Seun:
Effect Of Temperature On COVID-19: An Unscientific Investigation.

In the early days of the Coronavirus scourge, many Nigerians believed that we wouldn't be affected because of our hot weather. Now that we're testing people, we have seen a sharp increase in the number of confirmed cases, to about 210, which is still quite low for a country with 190 million residents. However many people suspect that the virus has penetrated our society far more deeply than the NCDC statistics suggest. We've noticed that people who travelled to colder countries recently or spend most of their time in air-conditioned spaces, or their direct contacts, are massively over-represented among the confirmed cases. Is this because they are the only ones being tested, or is heat a factor?

Here is the list of the 10 countries that have the highest number of active COVID-19 cases, and their forecasted temperatures for the day:
* USA has 257,790 active cases. The temperature forecast for New York is 8°C - 15°C.
* Italy has 85,388 active cases. The temperature forecast for Rome is 7°C - 25°C.
* Spain has 77,488 active cases. The temperature forecast for Madrid is 6°C - 19°C
* Germany has 65,309 active cases. The temperature forecast for Berlin is 1°C - 12°C
* France has 61,650 active cases. The temperature forecast for Paris is 6°C - 17°C
* UK has 34,428 active cases. The temperature forecast for London is 4°C - 16°C
* Iran has 31,954 active cases. The temperature forecast for Tehran is 8°C - 19°C
* Turkey has 20,012 active cases. The temperature forecast for Istanbul is 8°C - 11°C
* Switzerland has 14,169 active cases. The temperature forecast for Geneva is 3°C - 17°C
* Netherlands has 13,986 active cases. The temperature forecast for Amsterdam is 4°C - 14°C

On average, the top ten countries with Coronavirus have a temperature forecast of 5.5 - 16.5°C. The temperature forecast for Lagos is 26°C - 34°C, and for Abuja, it's 24°C - 36°C. This is a massive, massive difference! The maximum temperature of nine of the countries above is lower than the minimum temperature of Lagos. The maximum temperature of 7 of those countries is lower than the minimum thermostat setting of most Nigerian air-conditioners (18°C).

The countries mentioned above are in Africa, Asia or Europe. What about Africa? Here's our top 5:
* South Africa has 1,401 active cases. The temperature forecast for Johannesburg is 9°C - 15°C.
* Algeria has 1,004 active cases. The temperature forecast for Algiers is 9°C - 17°C.
* Egypt has 703 active cases. The temperature forecast for Cairo is 24°C - 34°C.1
* Tunisia has 472 active cases. The temperature forecast for Tunis is 8°C - 17°C.
* Burkina Faso has 236 active cases. The temperature forecast for Ouagadougou is 28°C - 43°C. 1
1 The Egypt data is misleading because the their average temperature last month was 11.6°C to 26°C, but Burkina Faso is a legitimate outlier; the country is much hotter than Nigeria.

The above data, in spite of the outlier, is enough to convince me that the Coronavirus likes cold weather and probably spreads faster in cold places, such as air-conditioned cars, offices, and homes. This, apart from the lack of testing, may explain why we are yet to see as many cases of transmission outside the circles of travellers and the rich and powerful in Nigeria as expected. It is consistent with what we know about other respiratory illnesses, and why countries like the US expect the disease to slow down in their summer season (starting from June).

When I see videos of Lagos officials spraying open areas e.g. roads & sidewalks in Lagos, I have to laugh, because I strongly suspect that, if they actually bothered to test for the presence of the virus on those surfaces, they'd find nothing at all because the sun already sterilized them.

Knowing that the virus hates our hot temperature gives me hope. If a cold country like South Korea (0°C -13°C forecast for today) could beat the virus without destroying their economy by imposing a total lockdown, a constantly hot country like Nigeria could do much better if we used the same tactics. We need to start testing people who have had close contact with confirmed cases before they show symptoms. We also need to enforce universal wearing of face-masks and social distancing everywhere, which in itself may even be sufficient to end the virus.

May your days be bright and hot. May your air-conditioners be off and your windows wide open (to get rid of aerosolized droplets). Cheers.

PS: I always make a lot of mistakes when I post long articles, so if you spot any errors, omissions, or false statements, please correct me.
You may be right but I beg to differ. The major attraction of coronavirus is population density and extent public transport in the city. Florida is a very warm city but with many cases. However public transport in Iowa in U. S sucks and not many cases. But public transport in New York and San Francisco is very popular.

While some people are donating audio money up and down, GTB already converted one stadium to ward with bed and medical equipment. Let them keep donating money up and down. Nothing stops one or two of those banks there or those audio billionaires from using their corporate capacity for providing food for people who are now stuck at home and can't make their daily bread or procuring hand sanitizers and face mask and distributing free. We don't need all these audio billions. We need face masks, hand sanitizers, food and ventilators.

I give this status quo one more week, if govt no provide food everyone go enter street. People can't be running from Coronavirus outside and die of hunger at home.

One thing I wish we all are sensitized about is that testing positive to Convid-19 is not testing positive to death. The survival rate is high. The rate at which people panic a lot can even cause some their untimely death even before they get infected with the virus
There are medical studies that show that worry and negative emotions reduce your immunity and risk of infection. So if you're worrying right now you're not doing yourself any good. Pray and take precautions.

I'm not an economist. But I have always had this question about value. Value is dependent on not just the product but the environment the product finds itself especially if it is an intangible item. For example, Microsoft sells their software license to businesses in the U.S for a particular price in dollars. If you're trying to buy MS Office or AutoCAD for your organization in Nigeria, they may want to charge you the same amount they charge to U.S companies to a Nigerian companies. To me, this doesnt make sense at all. That is why some companies in Nigeria are using pirated software. Even buying music, movies online or books from amazon. You can't charge an American who earns in dollars the same amount you charge a Nigerian and that can go on to other commodities as well. Well the cost of production is for one for tangible items but for intangible items that can be duplicated infinitely with almost no extra cost to the producer, it is really confusing to me. It will surely breed piracy. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can explain.

Pavore9:
Testing centres should be spread across the country. The FG would certainly be uncomfortable with such request because it would expose the doctored figures they have been feeding Nigerians with.
The figures cannot be doctored for long if it starts spreading rapidly and a lot of people start dieing. God Forbid. Based on level of testing and deaths, you can infer the expected number of cases. I believe Nigeria is not testing enough.

4 things we need to do.
1. LOCKDOWN the southwest and provide food so people dont die of hunger at home.
2.Increase testing. Encourage people with symptoms to test and make it free and provide free treatment.
3.Start procuring or creating medical supplies. Ventilators, masks, bed etc.
4. Pray more.

Once we increase testing we will have more confirm cases.

Ps: If any confirmed case was detected among the winners chapel congregants that attended during the Lock down. The church should be made to pay for the testing and treatment.

The lock down is very necessary so the situation doesn't spiral out of control. By now we should be figuring out how to procure or manufacture ventilators. We need to be a step ahead and I believe we can do this. But u cannot have a lock down without providing food for people. The FG needs to handle both cases as a matter of urgent attention national security.

Buhari cannot be addressing Nigerians from Twitter. Presidents of other countries are addressing their citizens on television everyday. If he cannot do this he should step aside abeg.
