It’s really tough but I have been pulling through. I’ve cut down expenses to the minimum and I’m able to provide the basics for kids. I forfeit some personal stuff for myself to make them okay at least. The big scare is I’ve not saved a dime for the whole year. Every naira I saved was wiped out by the increased prices because I had to take out if it to meet the demands for basic stuff due to price increase. Example, I bought 50kg bag of rice @ 32k in February, the last I bought in November was 50k. A whole 18k increase which is over 50% while my income only increased by 10.5%. I manage to just spend my earning till the next pay day. But I’m so hopeful about 2023 being better. Don’t know why but I feel so positive about next year.

Yes. I stay apart from my family. But I still keep the two rents within a months salary. It’s easier to achieve that up here to some extent.

Your annual rent shouldn't exceed your two months salary. If it does, you're in the wrong apartment.

My own standard has been one month’s salary. I never take an apartment that will cost me over a month’s salary. Two is still fair anyway but is extreme for me.

You are right but a new development is that traders at the borders are now insisting to be paid in CFA while they are also moving the naira in their possession back to Nigeria. They are buying Nigeria goods using naira and demanding only CFA for their sales. It’s the illegal cash that is hard to layer into the banking system.

These people are clever by half. They are already moving the money. They need the extension because the time given isn’t sufficient for them as they move funds in amounts below the reporting threshold and so stay out of the radar of banks and EFCC. They have calculated and seen that at the present rate they can’t get everything in by 31st January 2023. The cash involved here is just unbelievable. It’s a lot.

I learnt A single man bought all the cows in the cow market in maiduguri this week. The butchers have alerted the village markets around that they will protest if the villagers sell cattle to him because he wants to put the butchers out of business. Prices of cows have gone up because of the scarcity created by this man.

The only way this new policy will succeed is for the CBN to stick to the timeline. Any extension will negate any achievement and we will be the worse for it.

I’m planning to change tyres for my accord 2016 v6 sometime between October and November. The brands I see here are not trustworthy. Someone said I can go for Grade A tokunbo tyres of established brands which are not more than 2 years old. He means I can get 2020-2021 manufactured tyres of high quality. Can anyone confirm that for me because I think I will be more comfortable with a tokunbo Bridgestone than any of these china brands I see around here. Someone advise please. Thanks

One of the basic characteristics of money is SCARCITY. If it loses that, it loses value. That is why there are institutions like the CBN in Nigeria, the Federal Reserve in the US & their equivalents in other economies to control the flow of money. You cannot just create money without it being used to pay for an economic activity. By the time each Nigerian is given 5,000,000 I bet you in less than a month 60% would go broke because they would have spent on luxury goods imported. The economic value of money goes to the country that creates the goods/service and not the one that consumes.

Modified: the government should rather print the money or better still borrow it and spend on capital goods that will be used in production activities. This production will create employment and when ripple are employed they will earn. When they earn they will spend on goods. The providers of such goods will then earn from peoples spending and put it in another production cycle. All these exchanges will involve money. That’s when the regulator of money flow will print paper money if there’s need. Money flow should go with the production level of an economy else it’s doom won’t be too far from the day money is printed just for it to be in the hands of citizens.

What struck me in the clip is the recommended price of 2 naira per pack of 4. This advert was in the 90s if I’m not mistaken. That commodity goes for over 1000% of that today.
