Uncalled for. There is absolutely no need for that. Since the FRSC already collaborates with the npf, all they need to do is report such motorists who are violent or who have been observed to be in possession of dangerous arms to the nearest police check point or post. There are millions of them on our highway. FRSC does not need guns. Simple |

I got to the part that said fuel is heavier than water and shook my head at the whole writeup. OP abeg delete. |
radautoworks:I was getting worried when I didn't see Volkswagen there. Saw it later on and said "aha". |
Next time, give them a scanned copy of your license. With the scanned copy, they dont manufacture charges. The old number plate is still valid unless you registered a new vehicle (09-date) with the old number. |
HeavenlyBang:Nice analysis. The carbon buildup was in the 250. The 350 doesn't have that problem |
Abduletudaye:One of the best things you will ever do. |
I quite understand why you will be excited about your "german" car. Your 320/cdi can clock 60mph in 7.7 seconds. The v6 in the Camry "muscle" gets it up that pace in 6.1 seconds. That's a no contest. Congrats on your ride though but don't go out there challenging v6 Jap's. The infinitis out there will eat you for lunch. ![]() |
The rains in pH didn't help. I have touched everything except the timing of the car so I decided to try out what I had read on a TDI forum. I adjusted the camshaft timing by turning it counter clock wise. When I tried starting the car, the engine revolved faster than it usually does but this time, there was no white smoke coming out of the exhaust. While cranking I was observing the instant fuel consumption display and realised it remained stuck at zero. Usually, the readout goes to about 0.8liters/minute and car fires up. This means diesel wasn't being injected. I adjusted the camshaft fully clockwise, this time the fuel display showed 1.1litres/minute during crank and car started after a prolonged crank. Well, I burnt out my starter while doing this. However, it made me realise that my issue is with timing. I have ordered for a timing belt kit. Will use a mechanic to install when it arrives. That type of work is above my pay grade. Will also replace the bad starter. It actually brought out smoke. ![]() |

![]() EgunMogaji: ![]() Uncle no vex oo. OP, if you have been driving a four banger, don't suspect the filling station of shortchanging you when you buy the GL. You are better off with the 13 cross tour. Run a vin check though. Readone365, its a nine year old luxury Benz. They don't age well. Parts are bound to break down and when they do, it costs a lot in technical expertise and actual parts to fix. Is the op willing to cough out hundreds of thousands to install parts and download updated softwares required for that machine. Just the cost of Ac works alone made a colleague return his tokunbo GL to his dealer in exchange for an Lexus g470. He just figured he couldn't afford the cost of the repairs over the life of the car. |
You have to change the timing belt roller/tensioner along with the belt. Get a new genuine belt which will come with a kit as stated by sultaan else you will keep spending money changing belt valves or might even have replace a piston. If not sell the car. |
If you are earning less than 1m a month, don't try the GL. Its not for beginners. One problem from it can send you back to the village. Don't compare fuel economy if you want to roll with v6 and 8s. Unless of course, you are not up to it yet. They don't get along with fuel. V8s hate the sight of the fuel pointer anywhere close to F. ![]() |
Chai, this guy has lost this thread. He should jut start another one. Or better still, fix the car and sell. |
Cycle your dashboard readout and get your average and instant fuel consumption figures. Thy are usually pretty accurate. They should let you know if something is amiss. Also do a manual calculation to compete wit your average mpg. Dont just entrust your car to your mechanic. If you have changed your route to work or the traffic situation ha changed, it could also be a factor in the mpg. |

At intersections without traffic lights, signs or road lines: you must give way to any vehicle entering or approaching the intersection from your right. if you are turning right, you must give way to oncoming vehicles going straight through the intersection or turning left (except if they are using a slip lane). The above is from the highway code (USA). It specifically talks about yielding at intersections. The Nigerian highway code forbids overtaking when getting to junctions. It also mandates motorists to makes sure they are clearly of the vehicle they want to overtake before changing lanes. See link. http://www.highwaycode.com.ng/viii-overtaking-rules.html |
radautoworks:Never seen that before but will check it out. |
radautoworks:Nope. When on the left, you are assumed to be on the speed lane. Any vehicle coming from your right must give a safe distance before merging with you and has to be at a higher speed. Imagine if that silver SUV was a bicycle, so the maroon car should violate the cyclists space and impale him because he can turn left at any time he likes? The maroon guy violated the space of the silver car. If you cannot make a lane change without violating the space of other vehicles, then it is unsafe. This is just like some pH people who execute left turns statrting out from the middle lane and expect the cars on their left to disappear. |
GAZZUZZ:The car has two pumps. One is the in tank fuel pump which supplies low pressure diesel to the filter and then to the high pressure tandem pump. I loosened the supply hose from the low pressure in tank pump to the high pressure tandem pump and cycled my ignition on and off five times. About 30cl of diesel came out and filled a water bottle I placed to collect the diesel. That makes me think my in tank diesel pump is good. This pump is also a new pump I installed when I was troubleshooting the cause of misfiring and jerking in the car last year The high pressure tandem pump operated by the camshaft was also replaced around the same time so I doubt that one is bad too as I get high pressure diesel going to the injectors else the car wouldn't even rev or speed up to 160km/hr like it did on my last trip to calabar. I am just wondering why I am not getting return to the tank with the car idling and if it is the cause of my hard start problems. I will reinstall the former high pressure tandem pump tomorrow to check of that one can overcome the pressure regulator and return diesel to the tank. Thanks. |
I have replaced the collapsed and that was about 8 months ago. The hose clamps are tight. I have even doubled the clamps on the diesel distribution lines after replacing the collapsed hose. I hope it is what the mechanics say it is. I will change out old hoses later though to rule out any leaks or collapsed hoses over the weekend. |
Nice work. Following. Hope it turns out well |
Honda city wasn't sold in the USA as Honda city. It sold under a different name and I think its honda fit. The closest thing to a city I think is the civic and you wouldn't get a toks 2007 for 1 million. |
I have got a problem that I would need help with. Car is a 2006 Skoda Octavia 1.9 litre TDI diesel. Manual transmission. Last week, car refused to start after work. Been having hard starting issues for close to 8 months now. However, car always starts after cranking for 5-10 seconds. Sometimes oil light beeps as a result of prolonged cranking but car eventually starts with so much white smoke that it kills all the mosquitoes around. ![]() Things done so far: Scanned car. The autel scanner connects, scans but shows a blank screen after completing deep scan. To rule out connection error, I connected my Bluetooth elm scanner and could get codes p0401 and p0403. Egr related stuffs. (I blocked off my egr 2 years ago). I can see the airflow meter, temperature sensor and other sensors with the Bluetooth scanner. I have traced the wiring running from the camshaft sensor and all engine sensors to where it enters the car. I couldn't find any breaks or cuts. That rules out electrical issues on that path. Battery in the car is a new 90 amp battery installed two weeks ago. I have checked fuel supply and fuel comes out of the feed to the tandem pump. Engine rotates fast enough, rpm registers at least 180 rpm (usually enough to start the car). Engine coughs like it wants to start but doesn't. On Saturday, my mechanic came and snuffed the car with diesel and it started. It ran and we shut it down. However attempts to restart was hit and miss as it would sometimes start without snuffing, other times it would need snuffing. The mechanic popped the return from the engine to the filter pod and there was so much bubbles in the diesel. Further investigation showed that the return feed from the filter pod back to the diesel tank wasnt flowing any diesel at all. Mechanic is suspecting that this is cause of my problems. I am skeptical. I changed that filter pod last year when i had diesel supply issues which turned out to be a collapsed supply hose from the tank to the filter pod. Can a non flowing diesel return line really cause this sort of headache or should I be looking for something else? Cheers. Demeanours please help. One other detail. When the hard starting started, I could use the instantnous fuel readout to know when the car will start. If I start cranking and the diesel flow gets up to 0.7 l/m, car fires up. Now it gets up to 1.3l/m and nothing happens, rather it drops off. |
Loved that diesel wagon. ![]() |
lillyontop:Are you for real? You should return your license. |
Well, well, well. Shit hit the fan fast on this one. Have been laughing uncontrollably since. Some comments here are epic. ![]() Obekediamond, I go like meet you when I come ebonyi some time next month. You didn't have to call the Volvo crew to the party sha. As if it wasn't entertaining enough already. I hail una. |
greyham:Not so true. My friend has been driving an e90 318d since 2013 here in Nigeria. That's what convinced me to buy a Skoda Octavia TDI diesel. Currently car is down and has refused to start because of an electrical problem. The e90 is still going strong and will embarrass any NA aspirated 1.8 litre engine it meets on the road. Rode with him all the way to abuja once. Car sprinted down the road like a bunny. |
Bjornson01:It depends. Newer model diesels have wirings going to the injectors to monitor flow rate or other parameters. Volkswagen diesels 2004 and above use electronic diesel injectors which are wired to the brain box. So wiring isnt really less on newer diesels. The crank and cam sensors are also wired. However, the principle of the operation of the diesel is somewhat simpler. Meaning it should be easier to diagnose. Unfortunately, here in naija, most of our mechanics have refused to upgrade. |
nwaneni, I have never met this guy gazzuz but he is not what you paint him to be. he pocks my calls and when he doesn't I understand he may be busy. no one I know picks all his calls. I don't pick all of mine. I send him texts when he doesn't and he calls back or replies the text. I have never paid him a dime but he helps out when he can. we should all understand that people have a right to their privacy. no offence meant by my post but the number of beefs and bashings brewing in the cartalk section is unbecoming. |
bisi12004:the rating is there as a 40 weight oil. as for the effect on your 2001 corolla, I wouldn't even pour this oil in my thermocool generator. |
