@bolded....Please do. Yes for interference engines which the acura engines fall into. Your valves and pistons will have a major disagreement over space and your pocket/wallet will pay for it. You will have bent valves and in some cases damaged pistons. |

survivex: Big bosses, I have a question, I was looking forward to getting an RX 330 say an 06 model, but a friend suggested I buy an MDX 08 since both cost about the same.
However, I don't know much about the MDX made by Acura compared to the Lexus. Please, with all experiences about cars and Nigeria wahala, which will you suggest I settle for and why??
Thanks Listen to nureys advice (from an MDX owner). However if you don't intend to travel with it or have serious need for speed, get the MDX. Its a head turner. Its not as common as the Lexus. |

It may or may not be the caliper. Collapsed hoses can also case what you are experiencing. Been there. I changed both front calipers and issue didn't go away until one techie figured out I had a restriction in my hoses which was causing the problem. Replaced one hose only for problem to manifest after a week. Replaced second hose and problem has never come back |

Expecting my 05 MDX any moment and I want to get as much info from our Naija users as possible. Especially this timing belt thing. I have read so much about it online. How do you guys manage? I read its the 1st Gen that have this timing belt issue the most.
Cc greenhulk 9icetoo HeavenlyBang Changing the timing belt is not so difficult. Most Honda techs can do it. Just ensure you use the original belt. It lasts a really long time. Will probably be on the car by the time you decide to dispose of it. We will probably get a page on this forum for the MDX. |

greenhulk: Wow. What acura is that? I got 20mpg on 05 TL (AC on all the time) traveling from Lagos to ekiti to and fro without any octane booster. I know it could be better but still ok because I use to get around 22mpg when I was using 05 Accord 4 cylinder. Where it suffers is city driving with AC on. Car doesn't ping, I can easily rev to 5,000 RPM when taking off 08 MDX. With octane booster added, I easily rev up to 5500 rpm. Mpg also bumped up to 18.9 mpg. Acceleration is superb. But without the octane booster, I can't even get up to 3k rpm and mpg heads south. |

kingreign: These things pings, a lot of folks drive them without knowing. If you try that with a range rover sports, you'd soon see "reduced engine performance" on dash. Its best to keep using the octane boosters. Ah, finally. I was beginning to think I was the only one suffering from these pings. Octane boosters will harm the cats faster than it will clog the injectors from what I read. |

bizzle2: I haven't had any pinging experience. No rattling at all evn at speeds of up to 100 mph (160km/h) Car is fairly new tho, less than two months. However i notice some type of high pitched screeching sound on high speeds. definitely not from the engine, I'm still unsure what the culprit is. Wind noise from slightly open door seals. Is the car an MDX 2nd gen?/ Does it make a difference if the fuel is bought anywhere else other than nnpc cos the last two fills have been nnpc and the pinging was very evident. |

My 2nd gen MDX rides like a f*cking dream. For an SUV of that size the ride is unbelieveably fun and nimble. I cannot wipe the smug look on my face when I'm tearing past showoff drivers , and have them glancing sideways in embarrassment trying to compete in thier shiny new 201x Highlanders and RXs . Had a recent experience last week on the Lagos Ibadan express way. this fx35 comes barreling out of no where and cuts in front of me , styling and speeding like the road King he assumed he was. I just smile....in less than 60 secs the guy was made a believer. Does your second gen MDX not ping (rattling sound coming from engine) when you try to rev above 3k rpm or stump on the accelerator? Do you use octane booster? I'm asking cos mine pings like mad unless I add octane booster. I enjoyed the mad acceleration when I drove it with the obodo oyibo fuel it came with. |

Acuras and infinitis have it really bad. I couldn't rev more than 3k rpm yesterday cause my acura pinged so badly. I used to add octane booster to every tank of fuel to stop the pings. However when I found out that the MMT in those boosters will harm my engine and cat, I stopped using them. It was awful. I drove like a granny throughout my journey yesterday. Mpg and performance really suffered. Imagine getting 16mpg on a highway and not being able to go past 3k rpm. |

Car Talk › Re: 5 Signs That Indicates You Need Your Tyre Replaced by 9icetoo(m): 9:27am On Dec 05, 2018 |
sooperrescue: Going through the links, I was expecting an authority from the middle east that you referred to. Summer tyres from the date of manufacturing does not exceed 4 years. When you quote the US that even use M+S rated tyres, you will find out that they limit the speed of the tyres in order to make the tyres useful for both seasons. Frsc are the authority that determines the type of tyre that they want to be on our roads. And very soon, they will be carrying guns and if you know, you know You won't see an "authority" from the middle east making such claims cos its hare brained. It doesn't make sense. That's why they won't do it. A lot of accidents are caused by brake failure. When was the last time authorities checked any car for flushing and replacement of brake fluids? Never. Drivers who crash as a result of a blowout are either over speeding or inexperienced (those that panic and step on the brakes). The leading cause of accidents on Nigerian roads are pot holes, aggresive driving, poorly maintained vehicles and over speeding. I've come across numerous accidents and when I analyse the scenario and interview the accident victims, the above are mostly the cause. Rarely have I seen a tyre blowout result in a crash or roll over. I see drivers regularly parked on the shoulder of the road swapping out their tyres. If it was such a menace, it would have been forced upon tire manufacturers by now to state expiry dates on tires. Same road safety that requires you put reflective stickers on a vehicle even when they have mandated a caution triangle and manufacturers have equipped all cars with reflectors at the rear lights. |

sooperrescue: Bros, for UK yes. Do you use summer tyres all year round? Does Texas use summer tyres all year round? Let's copy those countries that use it all year. Yes they do use summer tyres all year round. They have tyres that can be uses both I the summer and I the winter. And it doesn't blow out in the summer like you posited. Go through the ratings of most tires and you will realise they far exceed the requirements for everyday use. Even the standard AA cargo tires can be used for sustained speeds in excess of 120km/hr. Not tp even talk of medium performance tyres that can sustain speeds of 190km/hr. Who does 190km/hr on our pothole infested roads for more than 10 minutes at a time? |
Car Talk › Re: 5 Signs That Indicates You Need Your Tyre Replaced by 9icetoo(m): 9:13am On Dec 05, 2018 |
erico2k2: In reality that guy is right, the only group of people advocating in the west for limited time in the change of tyres due to age are the tyre service providers like the AA not manufactureres.SOme part of the US is even hotter than the middle East ie Ariona and Texas. In the UK, year of manufacture is not a requirement is not a requirement as to how long you need to have your tyre,, tehre is advicosry but the real Legal check for MOT is the WEAR INDICATOR, which we seem t o always overlook in Nigeria, I was suprised loads of Tyre shop in NIgeria never knew about this. Don't mind them jare. And because they will soon be carrying guns, we should throw away perfectly good tires? This country is a hell hole full of arse holes. |
Car Talk › Re: 5 Signs That Indicates You Need Your Tyre Replaced by 9icetoo(m): 11:17am On Dec 04, 2018 |
sooperrescue: Tires expires after 4 years. You don't need a manufacturer to tell you that. It also depends on the climatic condition. Switzerland has two sets of tyres for every new vehicle purchased and at the end of four years, it is discarded. For Nigerian road conditions, it is 4 years because of our hot environment and that is why the need to falsify the manufacturing date is now in vogue in the country. The most important reason to change your tyres is if it has temperature B or C written on the tyres. That's suicidal. As for getting a bump with low tire pressure, hmm, it is mostly caused by over inflation and once the tyre hits a kerb, it gets swollen. Another factor is speed index. So the 34 degree ambient temp we have here is hot enough to expire a tire in four years? People in the middle east will change theirs every two years then. Rubbish. Show me a tire manufacturer or safety body (not FRSC of course) that mandates this. Even the NTSB does not mandate this and they actually know their left from their right when it comes to safety. They are practically the standard flag bearers. For your information https://www.michelinman.com/US/en/help/do-I-need-new-tires.htmlhttp://timeattackmanila.com/news/generalnews/michelin-affirms-michelin-tires-not-expire-age/amp/http://www.tiresafetygroup.com/tires-expire-in-six-years/You are welcome. |
