prisonbreak:first of all, drain the oil out and stop trial and error. look for the genuine Volkswagen transmission oil for your gearbox and replace what you have there now. that's the first start then go to any Volkswagen dealership and ask for someone amongst the technicians who can scan your car with a vagcom and interpret the codes. volks of that year and onwards rely entirely on electronics to function and all modules are monitored and can be diagnosed with a vagcomm. you may install a new gear box and still have same issues if you haven't solved the underlying issue. no one here can solve your problem without a vag com or carista app or a scanner that can scan the modules in your car and not just the ecu. I hope you get your issues fixed though and when you do please don't forget to update thread so others can learn from you. |
Kashif:and the owner will come here to advertise it as; 2008 Honda city for sale; first body; used by a woman; first body; engine and gear working fine; Ac on point; new tires; absolutely nothing to repair; you can come with your mechanic; meanwhile, the gearbox is dead and the mechanic will smile to the bank with 30k from the deal and a future milking to look forward to. |
Chizuru01:people are often quick to blame drivers without taking into consideration what could have happened. I am not saying the driver isn't at fault but you were not there and the op probably didn't witness the accident but has made assumptions. early this year in pH, a school bus hit a little boy who tried to cross the road without checking if a vehicle was coming. the driver wasn't speeding. he was driving at a 'normal' speed. no one blamed him because we saw what happened. the boy was taken to hospital but died later. if no one had seen what happened, probably the driver would have been blamed for over speeding, lynched, mobbed, killed and had his vehicle burnt meanwhile he did nothing wrong. children are allowed to play on the streets these days much to my amazement. the parents don't fully appreciate the dangers they are exposing their children to. that little girl has no business being on the street. she should be at home sheltered in a house. |
Jethrolite:I can see how "busy" you are. |
Alvin007:yes you can come out and say the vehicle has a salvaged title. do you realise people might convey an entire generation in that car? if a result of the previous mishap or accident the car has been involved in, the said car has another accident that wipes out an entire family, do you still think it is unreasonable to call such a seller out? declare a vehicle as is and let the buyers decide if they want to live with the risks or not. una dey here dey play kalo kalo with peoples lives just to make a few hundred thousands. nawao. it should even be mandatory to post vins in the auto section else the post is taken down. I don't know why the mods haven't seen to it that this is implemented. |
Jethrolite:when you post a car online for sale, you are posting to all parties; 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on. when u deliberately post an accident or salvaged car as clean title and deliberately refuse to or intentionally withhold the VIN, then that is fraudulent. post all info except those which may give away the personal info of someone else such as registration number. this your third party argument doesn't hold water. thanks. |

two key difference in how op sees honmusa and mayor2013. honmusa explains his methods to op which op truly understands. mayor2013 probably doesn't. honmusa does not throw parts at repairs (apparently), mayor2013 does. these two above are the biggest issues I deduced. however, if you install an alternator on a 12 volt car that gives out 18volts, then you have a serious challenge. a simple live data scan would have shown that. that Camry is a strong car oo. many cars would have had their ecus fried by that 18 volts. nobody is perfect, not even gazzuzz or sienna or any other famous moniker here. but knowing fully well that reputation and good will is what fuels the auto repair business, I think mayor should have handled this matter a little differently. my 2 cents. I personally don't like throwing parts at repairs if the technician has not explained to me why he is replacing that part and what exactly went wrong with the part. money doesn't grow on trees you now. |
wonders shall never end. compressor cooperating? lol |

EgunMogaji:possible causes: 1. swerved to dodge a jay walker or hawker. we have lots of them on the highways. 2. high on any of the widely available concoctions at the motor park. 3. worn out or wrong tire spec for the car. I've seen a bus with a 16 rim and 15 rim tyre and wheel combo on the same axle. 4. bad brakes. 5. village people. lol |
paulavon:it is a defect. some do burn oil, some don't. if you are burning more than a litre every 1000 kilometers, then you have a bad engine. new engine loading. ![]() paulavon:it is a defect. some do burn oil, some don't. if you are burning more than a litre every 1000 kilometers, then you have a bad engine. new engine loading. |
sidimaruf:new engine loading. lol. don't mind me. I assume your engine is the 4 cylinder 2azfe. the 20w50 has done what it was designed to do to modern engines. sloooooowwwwwly kill it. the blue smoke at start up are your valve seals starting to give up. do you check the oil with the engine running or when you have shut down your engine and waited for about 20 minutes? the engine oil pump churns the oil when it is working so a few bubbles aren't out of the ordinary when engine is working but if you see bubbles after you have shut the engine down for about 20 minutes, then something fishy is going on in your engine. check your pcv and line. clean them up. the pcv gets clogged sometimes leading to crank case overpressure which may create the bubbles you are seeing. |
not surprised where Audi and volks are.
I am rather surprised by the Bavarian giants. |
1. when I need to pick up the pace.

+2348037066336. call that number. meanwhile, I have not been able to get through to you for some time now. your number keeps saying 'line busy'. tried again now but without success. |

if you are buying Nigerian used, stay clear of the Passat unless you are sound technically especially on the electrical side. with the Camry, you can never go wrong. tried and trusted. I currently use a volks brand and used the Camry. I had more peace with the Camry. the fun part is way overrated. |
smellingmenses:really? wow. never knew. which sold more again? |
this thread is just wow. |
have you tried the vinegar solution? it gets rid of odours. you may have to open the dashboard and spray generous amounts of it in the Ac ducting. is the smell worse with the recirc button on or better with it off? the air to the evaporator comes through a duct, check if any animal has died inside that duct. I don't know what else that could be causing the bad odour. |
GAZZUZZ:gbam. free the guy. |
op, yes it is safe to top up as long as the engine has cooled down a bit (my opinion as it will be unwise to introduce thermal shock to those shiny metals that keep your engine purring like a cat). to the guy who has been using Mobil xhp to "meticulously" maintain his EOD, I hail oo. tomorrow we will see the same car for sale on Nairaland for 1.3 million and advertised as "no issues" when the engine is already on its last legs. to the guy who asked if his engine is okay if it burns through roughly 1 litre per 1000km. your engine is okay. some Toyota cars burn through 1 litre of oil per 1000km as they age and some from factory. reason why your car manufacturer advises you to check your fluids each time you fill up your tank. some people do so every morning. so no cause for alarm but if the oil burning increases, switch to heavier weight oil, if it persists and there is no external leaks, then start saving money for a new engine and consult gazzuzz. to the guy who has been using Mobil xhp to "meticulously" maintain his EOD, I hail oo. tomorrow we will see the same car for sale on Nairaland for 1.3 million and advertised as "no issues" when the engine is already on its last legs. to the guy who asked if his engine is okay if it burns through roughly 1 litre per 1000km. your engine is okay. some Toyota cars burn through 1 litre of oil per 1000km as they age and some from factory. reason why your car manufacturer advises you to check your fluids each time you fill up your tank. some people do so every morning. so no cause for alarm but if the oil burning increases, switch to heavier weight oil, if it persists and there is no external leaks, then start saving money for a new engine and consult gazzuzz. |
diesel over petrol any day. torque trumps horse power. how often do you utilise the rev range above 5000 rpm on your daily commute? all that horsepower in a petrol engine is a waste u unless you are on the highway. in a diesel powered vehicle, u enjoy the torque at very low revs meaning u push the pedal less in town driving. the engine doesn't labour turning over all other accessories like Ac and alternator or power steering, you visit the gas station less because of the fuel efficiency. my old Skoda averages 6.5 liters per 100 kilometers in ph with Ac half of the time. check my posts, you will see where I bettered 5 litres per 100 kilometer on a trip to Lagos from ph. I filled up with about 32 liters. no petrol car can match that yet. diesel fuel is cheaper than petrol if you remove subsidy the petrol enjoys. when comparing both engines, it is not entirely right to use Nigerian context. over 75% of our cars are tokunbo and as such the initial cost of purchase can't be used to judge running cost during the life of the car. there are mechanics for diesel vehicles, mine is still on the road as well as all Julius berger Skoda's and thousands of hilux vehicles used by individual and construction/oil companies. in bonny, 90% of transport buses there are diesel and they are still going strong. as for the issue of adulterated diesel, buy from reputable filling stations, nnpc, total, forte, oando etc and you won't have any problems. better still ask for a sample of the diesel before you purchase, if the colour isn't clear and you can't see thru the diesel inside a pure water bottle when held up against sunlight, don't purchase. the colour shouldn't be dark. it should a shade of yellow and amber to purple. if its so dark that you can't see through it easily, don't purchase. I easily achieve 700 km on a 50 litre fill. if only I can lay my hands on a post 2004 Mercedes Benz diesel car. |
no 8 until recently. watched a video on YouTube which showed a controlled crash between a small hatchback (smaller than a golf) and a Volvo 940. the dummies in the hatchback came out better than the dummies in the Volvo. it was an Eye-opener. the crumpling on newer cars is actually a design feature to dissipate the energy absorbed during impact while the older cars transmit all that energy to the occupants. we learn everyday. |
CaptainFM1:I have followed this thread and I knew it will get to this. firstly, tires yes do expire but do not have expiry dates. no one can expressly say when a tire will or should expire. even the tire manufacturers realise that a myriad of factors influence how quickly a tire degrades. I hope you do not work with FRSC cos if you do, you are working with the most useless organ of the government. if I become the president tomorrow, the act that established them, will be nullified and the commission scrapped. FRSC and SON has not published the white paper or research they used in coming up with the 4 year lifespan for tyres. I am still waiting for that research. they just woke up one morning after a night spent sniffing glue to declare four years as the expiry date for tires. good lawd! tires are not an independent component of a car. they are part and parcel of the entire car. therefore before a vehicle is declared roadworthy by VIO/FRSC (VIO is also useless), shouldn't they have confirmed the tyres on the car are okay and put an advisory on the road worthiness certificate? let's leave that for another decade cos it is beyond them. no car manufacturer has come out to say his tyres expire at so so period. michelin, pirelli, Dunlop, Goodyear etc have not done that however they recommend you replace your tyres even when they haven't been used after 10 years. they also recommend you inspect the tire for bulges, cuts, deformations, flakiness, thread depth etc. these inspections are what should be done by the frsc and VIO. ask the nearest FRSC man the minimum thread depth for a tyre to be road worthy and I trust he won't know. all he knows is how to check the production date of a tire; add 4 years and write you a bloody ticket cos he has expired the tyre by himself. do FRSC guys expire caterpillar tyres after 4 years too? captain, some tyres were designed to be rethreaded. the tyre manufacturers made them so and they know better than you and FRSC and VIO and son combined. I have posted pictures on this forum where I showed a 2013 tyre that had developed cracks well before my 2012 tyres. various factors affect tyre degradation. I have brand new tires not because FRSC said so but because the older tyres became bad and new tyres (softer rubber) provide more grip on the road. I guess my rant is over. i need a bottle of origin abeg. una sabi vex person for this Nairaland. mchtew. |
this guy is the most stupid fellow ever. you no get money to Bleep yet u dey form say u get. he even borrowed 1k from the olosho. he is the most stupid fellow yet in this 2018 and we are still in January. |
