We work with what we have. The seplat offer letter that was given to my cousin (a Material Engineer entry level ) had 5.8M per annum on it . I picked up the letter for him at there Lugard office in Ikoyi and read out the contents before sending to him via DHL . The figure out there for seplat is wrong

Most of the positions are scientific and not the usual rank-and-file type roles. They will struggle to get the workforce they require. You cant just hire somebody and train the person to begin unravelling the genome of covid-positive sample. Neither can you just hire any youth and train them on how to treat a covid19 patient. A lot of the pioneer NCDC staff had at least an MPH with some sort of research and clinical experience. You cant pay anyone 70k to do that job. Italy or Spain or south africa will offer them something much better.

That probably explains why the government wants to make use of the retired workers as a starting point

I know her. I dont want to put up her name here. It happened . She told colleagues in the office. Things got really hard. One of the workers openly began to confront the head of the agency, the Perm Sect FMOH (Linus awute) and a Director FMOH (Dr Adebayo Adedeji)

I wont advice any of them to return. During the ebola outbreak in 2014 non of the NCDC staff were paid. They were promised to be paid but as NCDC had no money as at then. They also refused to disengage the workers during the ebola crisis. Consequently, the pioneer members of staff worked for free for up to one year and were never paid. Isaac Adewole (HMH) and Chikwe (MD/DG NCDC) were appointed later on but refused to resolve the matter of payment. MOst of these pioneer staff were diasporas who had returned to nigeria to build the agency. Most of them have since returned to their base. I know one of them who returned to Denmark to practice medicine. I know another who returned to USA. Her case was even more pathetic as she had to stand at wuse market to sell her children's clothing to be able to raise money to buy a flight ticket to USa (she had dual citizenship Nigeria/USA) . She is now gainfully employed at the US Public Health Service.
They are now looking for people to use again .

Something strange happened to me at JFK this morning. The APC receipt printed an X over my profile information. Thereafter I proceeded to the CBP desk and was admitted for 6 months. Thereafter the CBP officer who admitted me locked up her closet and asked me to come with her to get my checked in bag. We picked it up and she took me near the exit door of terminal 4 and handed my passport over to her colleagues there (though none of them were putting on a CBP uniform). The colleague searched my bag and put it through a scanner. Then searched my body and asked for the names of people I plan to visit on this trip. After that he handed me my passport and said I can go.

I would have called this secondary inspection but I was admitted for 6 months prior to this search and they initiated no phone call or got any approval prior to letting me go. They also didnt ask for any documentation aside from counting the amount of cash I had on me. The whole delay took about 15 mins. Is this something new ? Havent been to USA since September 2019.

I apologize for the long post... So the thing is, I am 22 years old currently in 200 level. My performance is very poor, in fact I'm currently on probation(I'm suppose to be in 300 level by now) and that's not because I'm not intelligent or I'm dull o. it's just that i don't show commitment towards my studies because I've completely lost interest in the course I'm currently studying because of its calculation aspect. So i have finally decided to apply for withdrawal from my current school to register and sit for jamb again. This time i will apply for a course in a different institution. This course in question is a course I've wanted to study long ago but my current school don't offer it. My friend studies it and I've done research on the course my self. I'm very sure i can do it this time.

Now i don't even know how to approach my father with this. I know I've fvcked up big time. The man will be so so annoyed and disappointed in me but i can't continue like this, i want to get things on track, i want to fix my life and start afresh. Right now I'm just confused and frustrated. Nairalanders, i will need your advice and suggestions. Please what's your take on this?

I was in a similar situation in 2007 though I was 17 years old in one of the private uni. Took me about a year to convince my parents but they didn’t agree. I took the SAT exams and secured admission at a university near Baltimore . Tried one more time to convince my parents . Later found that they were hesitant because they felt leaving school to stay at home was sort of embarrassing but since I had an offer letter they supported me with visa processing fees and eventually paid my Tuition and supported me all through . I eventually graduated with a good grade and life has been good (despite one or two challenges which I think is normal). While your graduating grade may not be the defining factor of your life I think in the Nigerian society a bad grade makes it difficult to secure a job in a blue chip company at entry point . Look at the bigger picture

Well family differs thus I wouldn’t know the circumstances in your family. For me I was given the impression that my family was very united and I grew up believing that. By the time I turned 16 I began to notice how political family was far different from what I was made to believe. At 18 I was going to study in USA and in the same state my father’s brother (same father and mother ) resided. Prior to applying for F1 student visa I opted to go visit on B1/B2 with my uncle’s son ( cousin) inviting me . When the visa was approved my uncle was angry complaining to my dad that I was coming at a time his son was going be busy with work . His son who invited me never mentioned that and offered me all necessary support . Wondered why the father was very hostile. Ended up spending only 4 days as opposed to the two week earlier planned. During my stay I saw messages my uncle and aunt sent to their son warning him that I could come and elope into the thin air on a tourist visa . Was very disappointed. Two years later I applied for F1 visa , got it approved and went to uni for 4 years in same state with my uncle + aunt . Never visited them for even thanksgiving. Spent all my holidays in Abuja (summer and Christmas holidays) . At the end of my studies I moved out of USA . 5 years after moving out a friend of mine got a green card and moved to New York . He hosted me barely one year later . Uncle has been there 30 years plus and in the upper middle class but never invited me . That’s the irony of life . Never expect anything from anyone

Spent 30 years battling the US immigration system via one legal battle or a other. Amazing how people will do anything to be in USA.

Surprise to read about the negative experiences many Nigerians face daily at the US Consular section as I have had short interviews a couple of times and got my application approved always. However, the rate of visa abuse is also high among Nigerian citizens. A number of friends, relatives and colleagues of mine have gone on vacations, overstayed and absconded . Surprisingly these people are very much comfortable in Nigeria. Imagine what members of the lower class will do. The consular officers are doing all within their powers to limit illegal migration to the US and in the process are not able to clearly differentiate between genuine visitors and potential migrants. Individual actions against laid down rules and procedures over time has presented us negatively even among African nations .

It depends on where you get the highest level of satisfaction. Holding on to a job just for the security is a trait of people with no skills and value addition assets.

In addition the government of Buhari also waved off customs duty on all aircrafts and aircraft spares which has made it possible for the airlines to do more. The airlines are now asking for better airport infrastructure and renegotiation of the BASA agreements Nigeria has signed with other countries , availability of jet fuel and reciprocal airport charges amongst countries . They never got any of these under the PDP government

When you think you are trying to run down aero contractors ( mind you they don’t manufacture airplanes ) and Boeing (non manufacturers of jet engines ) you end up displaying your ignorance in an embarrassing way. With my very limited knowledge if jets I know that most Boeing engines I’ve seen are manufactured by GE and RR .

sadly the average Nigerian ( our leaders inclusive ) think short term and not long term. Lack of knowledge also goes a long way in affecting the kind of decisions our leaders make. You don’t grow a sector by killing your own. The only way Nigeria can grow is by expanding operations of Nigerian companies . Nigeria has the market but does not have a solid airline. Air peace has been making moves to widen their coverage and connectivity and airlines like Ethiopian are worried about this and are doing everything to kill the Nigerian airline. Remember all these foreign airlines do is to drop passengers , take passengers and have money from ticket sales repatriated to their home country. They don’t create jobs . They don’t boost the country’s GDP . They charge above average rates on Nigerian routes . I’ll rather a strong Nigerian airline emerge than what is happening in the sector.

From my little experience the fintechs and the banks are crazy about technology and have an appetite for using technology to get ahead of their competitors . They also seem to be pay competitively (particularly the successful fintechs). However the chances of a newbie getting hired is usually low as the environment is very rapid and you’ll most likely be handed a project on your first week on the job. No time to teach you through the basics .

Saraki is not a goner . He has done very well for himself and remains one of the best senate presidents who resisted intimidation and ran an independent National Assembly. He is 56 years old or there about and has been an executive director of a bank, special advisor to the president, two-time governor , two time senator and senate president. He can never be a nobody in Nigeria. You don’t have to love him but I don’t think you’ve achieved anything close to Saraki . Don’t be a disgruntled Nigerian who rants about here and there

After years of using one of the worst in their fleet to ply the Nigerian route they are now upgrading because of the entry of airpeace. Some Nigerians voted a leader (Mr. Osinbajo). That mandate has nothing to do with his children. If the son prefers to study in England his father's position should not in any way affect it. If the father looted to fund his children's education I'll have been on the same side of the arguement with you. But we both know Osinbajo was not a poor man before being elected as VP. With or without this position he could take care of his family. Put bias aside. I also studied in the west at a point in time (USA and UK) and met all kinds of nigerians (from rich families, from middle class families and from families with politically exposed persons). Nigerians tend to believe western education in europe is reserved exclusively for children of Nigerians who have looted public funds which I've never agreed with. Its a matter of choice and affordability.
