I found a Dr or Hosp in bla bla bla or I got accommodation in bla bla bla.. Pm me for details is bull crap... If it's transparent tested and trusted... Then share it here.

Then these accommodation agents or "Americanas" or opportuned Americanas taking advantage of pregnant women will continue to do so since "u guys" enjoy the "pm me for details". Imagine someone telling you to pay rent of e.g 800 (for one room u r sharing with him/her).. u r excited to pay because it's cheaper than everywhere u have searched. What you don't know is that, that's the total rent plus miscellaneous bill for the whole house for that month....

Tested and trusted information should be shared here... With further information like how to go about baby's documents and everything Nefertitiram said.
Personally I do not feel there is anything wrong in that...its business..its not charity,if he/she were to be your relative/friend that could have been different...its because d person needs the exrra cash that he/she was willing to open up her house to a stranger...I for one couldn't. In that instance you could have bargained and if it doesnt pay either party..u both bone,no big deal. That's what a lot of Nigerian students in the US do to make ends meet..and its not illegal.

You got me wrong... I DIDN'T CALL YOU OUT THE WAY YOU THINK, IT'S TO DRAW REFERENCE.. You are talking from the POV of someone who is honest, helpful & here for the right reasons(not flattering you but it is what it is)

Would have preferred the way the thread was before but that ship has sailed.. & that other USA visa thread does not address the issue of how to go about preggy visa, POE with belle, Navigating with belle, how to get baby docs etc..

You know what your "BURDEN OF PROOF" did to my life at ORD POE? You don't have an idea how invaluable that was? Thank you for that...

This thread has been bastardised.... once an info gets dropped here, in little to no time, it goes downhill...

From our sojourn in Chicago, we found more than 10 hospitals & numerous Drs but DR A still gets the lion share cos he has agents who would PM you & ask you to tell him you are a friend of theirs( they know themselves) & he too would ask who referred you to him...

People coming here, getting info & blocking people from benefitting is my grouse. ...

So you are the only one with the right to have called MOBAP right? You said you were the 14th caller...just?tens to hundreds of preggys visit this forum....once a cheap place is spoken abt on this forum, several women...silent or not... try to get to call the hosp/dr to hear from the horses mouth just like you did. Abeg just has you had interest, several others too were interested in getting a cheap deal ...you put so much emphasis on agents..its a legit job,not as if they are stealing...and its no one's business what the information here is used for since its an open forum.
I once told a friend to come on Nairaland to get info...she told me "if you don't know any Dr in OK,I'll rather pay an agent 150k than read a forum for weeks, where is the time?". D Drs in MOBAP never increased their prices...they saw that all Naija women opted not to do ultrasound scans and some tests to cut costs...even when it was needed so they simply made it mandatory...it was 1300 not 2300 from 800.

Hi hi
Pls can u assist with an estimate of Aveeno baby stuff u used for a year?
Intend buying for like a year as well

Thanks
. Can't remember the exact prices but 5-6bottles of the wash and shampoo, and 3 bottles of lotion could serve you for a year...they range from 6$ to 12$ each...compare prices on amazon and walmart before buying....N.B...for the first few weeks, natural oils like coconut or olive oil seem to be best for babies skin..A black nurse advised me on olive oil...got it for $10 from the food section @ Walgreens...was very good for my LO's skin.

Ok. Let's talk about this.

Does NL increase the influx of patients to some hospitals? Yes! Is it the sole reason these hospitals get overwhelmed and stop taking international patients? No!

I personally met atleast 3 Naija mamas in MIHS who didn't know anything about NL. Naija mamas in MIHS cannot even be compared to the number of Mexicans and Philipinos in same place. Before vivianobas revealed MIHS, it was well known to other nationals and they even had to jack up their fees from $1,500 to $2,888. Yea, you heard right, 1k5! If vivianobas did not share info about MIHS here, we would not had known and you won't be here talking about missing that package. If she had said "I've info about a cheap hospital in Phoenix, PM for details". We (including agents gan) would have PMed her, gotten info and still bombarded the place.

Then again, if NL was the sole reason for these hospitals to stop taking international patients, Doctoresparati will be the first to stop. That was the very first well known hospital on this thread and the number of Naija mamas that have gone there is nothing close to the ones that have gone to other 'closed' hospitals. And they are even still here advertising.

And heck, even if NL increases these hospitals' patient influx somuch that they stop taking, no biggie. Soldier go, soldier come. Mamas here will make research and new hospitals will be found and shared here.

Ok. Let's even say we stop mentioning names, what will we achieve in the long run? These well known Doctors that people get info through PM will still be bombarded. And when they stop taking patients, where does that leave us? Remember there are no new Dr's contacts shared here anymore. We will now have to resort to agents to pay huge amount for an info we could have joined hands together to get. Then why do we have this thread? It's supposed to be about "Cost and procedure for birthing in the States".

The risk of not sharing info here openly greatly outweighs that of sharing. Don't worry, we all will begin to see that in no distant time. And if you think the Mods/admin are doing this for our benefit, think again. They just want to make money through ads. Even JW knows this (as he has always been an anti-agent/PM mod), but it does seem like his hands are tied and I understand his plight stance.

Hmmmm our benefit ke? Una no see say Linda Ikeji just buy mansion?Seun and his no 1 moderator JW must follow suit Na....Agents biko!u guys should come out enmass and advertise...i just checked d cost only 8k or thereabout weekly..in naira ooo...pls, so that the ministry can move to the permanent site. grin

Nne wait o, before you rest your case, I can bet it was because of NL that MIHS jacked up their prices.
It was because of NL that Dr. Zimmerman stopped taking 9ja patients

It was because of NL that Mobap flew frm $900 doc fees to no intl patients.

I'm with Justwise on this o! Because MIHS pained me bad, and Mobap sef bite me for corner.

The worst thing is that this thread is so open that the people ruining this thing are not actively participating. They come, collect info and run with it. Meanwhile some of us battle day and night, on the phone 24/7 to get info so that our friends here can benefit, only for lurkers to bombard the hospital with a million calls so tey they did meeting and stopped taking intl patients.
A mama here testified on how she was grilled about how she found out about Dr. F

If this trend continues, who knows, there will be no more affordable options. It is simple economics, law of demand and supply.

Women's care consultants had a high influx of calls from Nigeria..true...but that was just one practice in the hospital....MOBAP is massive wt close to a hundred dr's practices...so calls from Nigeria, to the doctor's office that Kizluv and I used couldn't hv made the whole hospital place a ban on Int'l patients...I asked and was told that the very high influx of Asian patients made the hospital revert their clientele policies.....so it wasn't Nairaland, all the Naija calls did was make d dr's office make ultrasound scans and some tests compulsory to jack up their price.

Ohhhh I typed one very beautiful response before o! Okay...

Natural hair is not stubborn, it is curly, dry and very fragile. So all that aggressive combing is why women weren't growing their hair long. Here's what I do.

Use a wide-toothed comb like the one below. Anything smaller is entering very curly hair and snagging in it, causing you to pull harder, causing her to scream in pain. So A WIDE-TOOTHED COMB IS A MUST.

Comb hair ONLY when wet. African hair is the driest and needs moisture (water) constantly. And curly hair detangles better when wet so it is easier to comb. So wet hair.

Once you wet the hair or it's damp, apply either a light absorbing oil like Olive or Coconut oil or a thick butter like Shea (ori) or Cocoa butter to the hair and massage it lightly.

Hair must be damp or wet (wet is better). Then comb gently.

No need to shampoo daily (unless your baby is a professional footballer at her tender age, her scalp is not getting dirty that often) and shampoo is drying to Natural African hair. So maybe once or twice a week (unless you're treating something skin related on her scalp with a medicated shampoo).

Also abeg don't do all those painful tight styles like puff or braids right now. I hate seeing babies with tight hairstyles holding their heads in pain and having traction alopecia (the hairlineof the head is chopping).

Check out this blog: www. naturalnigerian.com she and her daughter have natural hair. Or just ask me (I will do my best to answer)
. "traction alopecia" sure got me rolling wt laughter..u sound like a Physio..are u? Abeg which hairstyle wld be good for a 6month old wt so much hair?accepted, her scalp is still tender..but leaving it like old school (even wt colourful bands) gets rough within an hour or 2...making her look scrufy...i try to do pufpuff..wtout making it tight...any other suggestion?

Most pple buy from either d US or d UK,but if u are not travelling for now and dont have anyone coming soon...check big baby stores around u. Medela is a very good brand...i used medela harmony manual...it was approximately 8k ..thats because it is manual..d electric ones are as high as 40k and cld even be more.My advice is go to a big baby store in your area....check the ones they have and the prices..then you can go back home google their reviews and decide on d one to buy.

No problem. My baby took her first doses of pnemo and rotavirus at 7months.
We couldn't get a pharmacy that has in stock in Ado(julie o, twins oo) none had it, so I had to go to Akure to get it at 'his grace' pharmacy.
But for her next dose(7th Nov), I've ordered for it in Aromokeye pharmacy in Ido, hopefully they will have it by then.
Perhaps, if they can't it, I'll have to travel down to Akure for the next doses then(I pity myself cos that road ehn....but na for ma pikin, say make she dey healthy, I gatz to sacrifice sha).
pnemo costs about 9k per dose(3doses) and rota costs about 7kplus(2 doses).
I sincerely hope and I can get it here in Ido sha.
. Is it that they don't give immunization at FMC Ido or you just prefer adminstering it yourself? How about the primary health centres in the viccinity? My dear,if that's the only thing we can get for free as citizens of this nation, we should grab it with both hands. ..

Just like you, i also had a great time with my hosts. This is a family that consists of a grandma, son and grandchildren. I had never met them until i went to US to give birth. I was introduced to them by my brother's friend who happens to be the grandma's daughter. They made me feel home away from home. The hospital and the Dr i used were in another city that was like 1 hr drive from dre house. I was driven to n fro my Dr's appointment all through my 3 months stay with them. They never gave me attitude, whn i arrived their home, the uncle bought winter clothings for me and made me write a list of things i crave whenever they were going grocery shopping. When i had my baby, they organised a mini christening party for me(they r muslims while i am a xtian) and invited their friends that gave me loads of gifts and cash. I gave birth during the US tax refund thing and cos the uncle always change his children's wardrobe at this time, he also bought loads of clothes worth almost 1k dollars for my baby. He bought his carseat and even bought me too clothes. When i was coming back, i gave the grandma money but she rejected it and said she feels like i am paying her for hosting me. This is a woman that ll stay awake all night and cater for my baby while i sleep, she only wakes me when he needs to breastfeed. I lost my father while i was in the US and that whole family were there for me like they knew me from Adams. They needed to send some stuffs to naija which i was prepared to help them bring and pay for extra luggage but they followed me to the airport and didnt allow me pay, the uncle made the payment himself. I cant finishing saying all what i enjoyed. I just pray to God to help me to be able to repay this kindness to them. We have since become family friends and they keep telling me to bring my baby next year n spend time with them. I and my family speak with them regularly now. Sorry if i bore u with this heart pouring!

Drinking gallons of water means peeing loads of times(and fitting into the small convenience )
So if these aren't things you are gonna do the least is to wear compression socks which are not just for swollen feet but also to prevent the risk of blood clotting in you.

OK,compression socks are good, they may help to prevent blood clots which may lead to throwing an embolus and in the worst case scenario death!
I actually saw compression socks in a chemist @ shoprite in Ibadan (the shoprite not far from oluyole estate, can't rem wat that area is called, not an IB person)I didn't buy it cos i felt it was over priced at 8k and i didn't feel i needed it.
I didn't wear any on my 13hr united flight to houston, drank water a lot, sat 3 rows from the rest room and probably visited it about 5-6 times, walked round the plane just once!I had no pedal oedema, was 35weeks. But it's not the same for everyone, some are more prone to oedema than others, and ur medical history matters...

Congrats on you successful poe. My questions are: Who pushes the wheelchair? On arrival, does this person wait for you to finish inspection with the poe officers? Does he then continue wheeling you to the arrivals lounge? Do you pay him or give him a tip or nothing ? Will appreciate a response from you or anyone else.

Yes there are porters whose jobs it is to wheel the chairs....I booked a wheel chair from Lag, didn't use it there cos hubby felt it was ridiculous. At Houston POE I used it, the CBP was sarcastic cos of this, he asked me why I was on a wheel chair,I said I was very tired after the 13hr flight, he replied he was tired as well and that the lady wheeling was also definitely tired, hmm na so I stand up wt my big belle tell am ok sir!(To be fair he probably hadn't noticed I was preggy, he was probably wondering wat a young fine chic *winks was doing on a wheelchair). Let me just continue wt my POE story once and for all.....
He took my finger prints, and asked wat I came for, told him to hv my baby, he asked if I had told them that when I applied for visa,I told him that was the only thing I applied for,he typed on his system for few seconds, asked hw much I had on me, and what I do in Nigeria, I told him. He said he was sending me somewhere else so they cld count my money. I sat back on the wheelchair and off we went for secondary inspection.
It was abt 5;30a.m so I guess we were the first set of pple for that day. There was a young Mexican woman crying in a corner, and abt 4 latinos that looked as if they had slept there. D porter that wheeled me in sat down, abt 10 other pple were also directed in. The officers shared our passports among themselves,I was the first to be called up, he asked me exactly the same questions i had been asked at the 1st check, then asked If the money was mine, i smiled and said yes. Asked for the address i wld be staying, i handed him the extended stay booking, took it and kept typing (seemed he was checking if the booking was still valid, not sure though). He gave it back to me,stamped me in for 6months and said when next i was coming in, i should ensure I had my receipts wt me...took roughly 5mins or even less. Immediately we left d room, I just ginger out of joy, told the porter thanks that I cld carry on from there myself......mistake, I walked for abt 20mins(or so it seemed @ d time) before I got to the boarding gate where i was to join my connecting flight.
N.B- i declared on my form i had food, got to Agric, they asked wat i had, i mentioned a few,and asked the guy questions instead like...is powdered milk, spaghetti etc contraband here lol,the guy said no,asked where I was from, on telling him he said do u hv knorr,I said yes but its not d chicken flavour, na so he ask me to go wtout opening my bags!Wish I hadn't dropped my yams last minute in Naija.
Sorry 4 d very lengthy post grin, na boredom.......

Check Missouri Baptist medical centre cos their hospital charge is 2500 for VD and there's a Dr that charges 800$ there, additional cost is pediatricians fee which I dunno, but that same Dr collects test done from Nigeria if it's not hand written...accommodation is what I'm not sure of, Google apartments close to that zip code and see how far, but cost of living in Missouri is low

Accomodation in St Louis is 243/week wt tax, could be slightly more expensive depending on the extended stay apartment u choose, they are quite many and some are close to each other. Vaginal delivery hosp bill ...2600, epidural--800, dr's bill--800 for delivery, 150 first visit,100 subsequent visits (Not all dr's charge this amount, some are in the 2,200 t0 3k range for self pay). They would still do some tests even if you brought every from Naija, and depending on the doc u may hv to do another ultrasound (200-300)...other tests to be done are GBS, CBC, and any other one the dr deems fit for your case.

Yippie! I don port o. Promised to post my successful visa interview but was so busy making plans, cancelling and remaking.......so my interview was a breeze in Lag.Booked my appt late cos each time i checked the website for waiting appointment times, I'll see one day, so thought I could just book a day b4 d interview. Not knowing the one day was for how soon one can book an appointment after payment. Luckily for me,got an appointment for a date 5 days away from the day i filled and submitted my ds-160.
Went with my mum.Interview went thus, but not in the exact sequence
Cbp:where in the US do u intend to go and why?
Me: Houston,Texas to hv my baby
Cbp:why so far?
me;this is my first baby, I want the very best healthcare and since mum will be wt me, I won't be alone.
cbp:hv u contacted a dr?hw did u get to to know d dr? Nairaland?
Me;smile, extensive research online, but i'm on nairaland as well
cbp;checks my passport....so you schooled in the UK?
me;yes, told him what I studied
cbp:when did u get back?
me;told him (probably wanted to know if I had overstayed)
CBP: when did u get married?
me; told him the exact date
cbp:wat does ur husband do
me;told him where he works and what he does there
cbp; can i see your bank statement?
Me: Gave him mine, hubby's,dad's and a part sponsorship letter from dad. consent from hubby and sponsorship letter as well
Cbp;reads the letter from dad, smiles, asks abt the heavy inflow in my acct at a particular time last year
Me;explained it was for my wedding
cbp;nods, asks if i had friends or family in the US
me:No, I used to but they are back here.....I remembered I had said I had family in the US when I
applied and was denied in 2013 in London (they are actually back in Naija)
Cbp:why isn't your husband going with you?
Me:He's very busy wt work, especially with the shift in election dates
CBP:Pick up ur visas on thursday!
He didn't ask my mum a single question, mumsy just kept smiling gently throughout,
not even what she does since I had put there I wasn't sponsoring her....

Thanks to Kizluv, eventually decided on Missouri 3days ago... after getting conflicting reports on the place I had intended to stay in Houston, affordability and sentimental reasons (dad schooled in Uni Missouri years ago).....Booked United 3days to my travel date,Houston poe.....flight was cool, booked for wheelchair service from Lag but didn't use it cos hubby felt it was ridiculous lol....as if na him sabi my body pass me..United was aiit, good leg space, food not bad, they asked for fit to fly even though their website states that no need for medical documentation till the 36th week (they want it on a letter headed paper not just hospital stamp). Joined the fast track queue and an immigration officer told me to be very careful and not change my intended destination(which I had already done i.e Houston to St Louis), cos they had been sending back many pregnant Naija women of recent. Flight was smooth, sat not so far from a rest room, walked round just once during the 13hrs, but kept flexing and extending my ankles, didnt wear compression socks.....but to the Glory of God no swelling. Got to Houston 20 minutes to 5a.m,we were told to chill in the plane till 5a.m when the immigration staff would resume... Abeg make I sleep small, Houston POE story to continue tomorrow.
@ Kizluv i dey hail o, i don land, the extended stay place is so cool, phone battery dead, sockets not compatible wt my charger...we'll talk tmao.
