omowolewa:I am even curious. Is it that our media is now more efficient or the previous administrations were not assenting or withdrawing assent to bills? The news about withdrawal of assent to bills were very very scanty during the last administration. The only time I heard about withdrawal of assent was at the tail end of the Administration when the 7th Assembly was pushing for review of some aspects of the 1999 constitution, which GEJ vetoed and later sued them to the supreme court. Sincerely, it is highly impressive the way the current President communicates his decisions to the NASS on bills he is withholding assent to. Some of the points usually put forward by the President also clearly shows the NASS does not put due diligence into their work. |
Ndonu101:Are you sure you are not a robot? The reasons adduced by the President makes enough sense. For your information, Buhari' s response on bills is not limited to reactions of only the Executive arm of govt alone. The president also sends some bills seeking presidential assent to the CJN to get his input. |
Troublemaker007:Dont mind them. If they now fail woefully, they will be screaming rigging up and down. |
Jokers everywhere |
This propaganda is from the Table of Lere ![]() |
Fayose the clown. Despite his teeming security team, he is still claiming he was assaulted by unnamed policemen. who even takes the joker serious sef. |
schoolboij:Apologies if I sound rude, but all these "I know, I know" is sort of boring. Can you pls just show us a snap shot of the edge of such cert? This will put the argument to rest and glaringly show the incompetence of NYSC. Kindly show us asap and pls not the one photoshopped. |
frowland:You are indeed very gullible if you cannot use basic facts put to you to make an informed decision. I'm not a hater of Kemi, in fact I really like her. But someone posted a discharge cert (note: not exemption cert) signed by a different DG in Aug, 2009, and you are still arguing blindly that some other certs for that same Aug, 2009 were also signed by the former DG. Does that make sense to you?? What we are even talking about here is discharge cert, and not exemption cert, that may have different circumstances. Here is another one signed by same person just like the other one of Aug, 2009. Now you have evidence of two different Aug 2009 certs signed by same person different from the person that signed for March 2009. Please show us just one (1) Aug 2009 cert signed by same person who signed for March 2009.
|
frowland:Gawd! Nigerians can argue eh. I have checked other certificates dated August 2009, and they were signed exactly like that one posted by Ogwonba. NYSC certs is not something difficult to come by. Ask your colleagues which year they got discharged and simply ask to see a soft copy of the cert of those that were discharged in Aug, 2009. If you have one with a contrary signature but dated August, 2009, pls show us. Chai. |
Rickyuzzy:Can you show us just the edge indicating the year and the signature like that Ogwomba pic? |
frowland:Bros you are wrong. Someone already posted the picture of batch B certificate signed by another person in August. Check page 2 of the thread, comment of the Ogomba. He attached a pic. ogwomba: |
ogwomba: Rickyuzzy:Are you saying yours is also different from that of the person I just quoted? You guys passed out at almost the same time. |
kaorama:Exactly my thought. They are just waiting like hungry lions. |
Topmaike007:Where did you see in the report that any news of killing is false? This is exactly where the problem lies, you read one thing, and add your own to it due to your inherent biases. You then transmit the modified information, where other people sharing same biases with you also buys into it and continue spreading the distorted information. |
In Nigeria of today, some people don't even care if a news is fake or not, as most of these news satisfy and appeals to their inherent hate and distrust for other people, they just swallow it hook, line and sinker and start propagating such unfounded information as the gospel truth. If you even try to tell them to exercise restraint and confirm the authenticity of the news, they would band you a supporter of the bad guys/villians in the unconfirmed and doubtful story. It's just pathetic. Some would be referencing a Facebook page or an unknown blog as the source of a sensitive news. It's even more worrisome that some hitherto reputable organisations are now lifting news reports from some of these mushroom reporters. And the news just go on a merry-go-round. |
How fake news fuels Nigeria's herder crisis Fake pictures circulating on social media which users are falsely claiming depict inter-communal violence are inflaming already high tensions in Nigeria. It comes after three days of deadly clashes between mainly Muslim cattle herders and mostly Christian farmers left more than 200 people dead in the centre of the country. A gruesome image of a woman face down in a pool of blood with a gaping shoulder wound is purported to be from the recent attacks. It has hundreds of retweets on Twitter, but it first appeared on the internet in 2011 in a story about domestic violence in Nigeria. Another image appears to show half a dozen people that were killed in the attacks. On closer inspection it becomes clear that the picture was not taken in Nigeria, and is actually the scene of a 2015 traffic accident in the Dominican Republic. They are both too graphic for us to display and were accompanied by highly inflammatory comments. And it's not just pictures. Earlier this week, major Nigerian news outlets ran a story claiming that Danladi Circoma, a leader of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, said the attacks in Plateau were revenge for the loss of 300 cows. "Since these cows were not found, no-one should expect peace in the areas," Mr Circoma is reported to have said. His comments drew widespread anger and swift condemnation, but he has denied ever making the statement. What is fake news? Completely false information, photos or videos purposefully created and spread to confuse or misinform; Information, photos or videos manipulated to deceive - or old photographs shared as new Satire or parody which means no harm but can fool people; Misinformation and fake news in Nigeria is nothing new, particularly around ethnic clashes and violence. In some cases, the lack of official information has created a vacuum which has been filled by rumours. This only serves to escalate tensions futher. The most recent violence has been in Plateau state The explosion of social media - Nigeria has 26 million active Facebook users - and the rapid growth of smartphones means rumour spread quickly and easily on social media. In January, the presidency denounced a fake Twitter account which appeared to justify herdsmen attacks in Benue state to the anger of the public. A month later, a letter alerting the public to an apparent attack by herders on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a major route in the country's south-west, went viral before the police issued a statement to deny it. As criticism of the government's handling of the crisis grows , there are fears that fake news could result in further violence. Last year, Information Minister Lai Mohammed spoke repeatedly about the danger of fake news, warning that it could "threaten and destroy" the country. How to spot fake news It is likely that more fake news stories will surface about the crisis, particularly in the run-up to next year's presidential election. Social media companies like Facebook and Twitter have revealed plans to fight the global problem of fake news, but here are five ways you can stop the spread of misinformation: Check the source: Fake social media accounts often try to appear as if they are from legitimate news sites, so check that every account you share information from is genuine. Verified accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have a blue tick. Look at multiple sources: Although this isn't foolproof, it's nonetheless worth checking multiple reputable new sources when trying to verify if what you're seeing is real. Ask yourself: Are trusted news outlets also reporting this information? Verification tools: There are dozens of tools online that can help determine the authenticity of a picture or a video. Google, Bing and Tin Eye all offer a reverse image search, which can tell you where images have been used before. Video verification is more tricky, but tools like InVid allow you to select video from Facebook and YouTube to see if or where these videos have been used before. Check metadata: If you have an original video or picture, you can check the metadata which will give you a wealth of information, including where and when the image or video was taken plus the device make and model. Unfortunately, when images and videos are uploaded to social media platforms their metadata is stripped out. Think before you post: It sounds obvious, but be careful not to add to the problem of fake news. Before you post, ask yourself if you're sure the information you're about to post is real. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-44655148?ocid=wsnews.chat-apps.in-app-msg.whatsapp.trial.link1_.auin Mynd44, OAM4J, lalasticlala let the people see the new epidemic in Nigeria media space. |
NOETHNICITY:Thank you jor. Will effect the correction right away. |
Anambralstson:What do you mean by Punch changing the headline. Are you an illiterate not familiar with journalism? The most important part of the news was what Punch reported, which is a dismissal of the petition against the Judge. At the moment, the petition against the Judge alleging bias is the crux of the matter, as the case as been put on hold because of the petition. Punch correctly and professionally reported the news. The other matter of the case stalling because of the. NJC's request to have the case reassigned is secondary. |
The NJC should not have ordered withdrawal of the case from the Judge if indeed the Judge did not commit any misconduct. Their action is contradictory to me. You said the Judge did not commit any misconduct, and you are still ordering that the case should be reassigned to another judge. Invariably, they have fallen into the trap tactically set by Innoson. As what he wants is a delay of his trial. |
NJC dismisses Innoson Motors chairman’s petition against Lagos judge Oladimeji Ramon The National Judicial Council has dismissed a petition written by the Chairman of Innoson Motors, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, against Justice Mojisola Dada of the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had charged Chukwuma and his company with alleged forgery and stealing before the judge. But the businessman has repeatedly failed to appear before the judge for his arraignment. At the prompting of the EFCC, the judge issued a bench warrant against Chukwuma and later declared him wanted. But accusing the judge of misconduct, Chukwuma wrote the NJC, calling for the probe of Justice Dada over the bench warrant issued for his arrest. However, the NJC, in a letter dated June 4, 2018, a copy of which our correspondent sighted on Friday, said it found no wrongdoing against the judge. The NJC, however, directed the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Opeyemi Oke, to withdraw Chukwuma’s case from Justice Dada and re-assign it to another judge. The NJC letter, signed by its Secretary, Ahmed Saleh, read in part, “Your petition dated February 12th, 2018 on the above subject matter and the reaction to same by Hon. Justice M.A. Dada of the High Court of Justice, Lagos State, were considered by the National Judicial Council at its meeting, which held on 9th March, 2018. “At the end of the deliberation, the council did not find any act of misconduct on the part of the honourable judge. However, if the case is still pending before Hon. Justice M.A. Dada, same will be returned to the Chief Judge for re-assignment to another judge, please.” Copyright PUNCH. All rights reserved. PaChukwudi44:He needs it. |
ConcernedNL:He can only shake. He won't win in the SW and core North. And he will in turn blow his political chances to smithereens. |
jusRadical:Which politics? |
Ghostgambler:It is still functional. It has some connection to Ajaokuta. Both the Delta steel and the one at Osogbo were established with reference to Ajaokuta. |
saintkeppy:It is Asaba International Airport. Not cargo. |
AutoReportNG good of you to show us some pictures. I thought I was the only one disappointed that there was no single picture released with the earlier news of the airport impending commissioning. I was wondering how a project billed to be commissioned in 2 months time does not have any picture |
dignity33:He blew his chances already due to his rapacious tendencies. The SW will never support him. They already have a lot more qualified people on queue. Same with the North, they equally have a lot more qualified people on queue. I |
Cyynthialove:Most of the stories of killings in the North are twisted for political reasons. It is no longer news that a lot of light arms have been illegally transmitted to the North from the crisis in Libya. Lots of killings are equally happening in Zamfara state and other predominant Hausa/Fulani states in the North. Whenever such killings happen, the media will tag it killing by bandits. But when similar killings happen in Taraba, Benue or Southern Kaduna, they will tag it killing by Fulani herdsmen or killing of Christians. |
PaChukwudi44:Did you see a copy of the court judgment? |
hisgrace090:Where was he rolling to?? ![]() |
jomonic:But a lot of folks from the SE regularly brag that they dont need the presidency. It seems you differ from this opinion. What say you? |
SalamRushdie:An example is in the report above. You obviously did not read it. |
