Truth be told, traffic have not improved on the road. Compare off peak traffic to peak traffic as evidence of dicongestion is cheap lies. Between Lekki R/about and Ozumba link bridge, it still takes average one hour during peak traffic for a distance of one kilometer orthereabout.

The so called elite you accuse of wanting free service actually pay heavy taxes for no service. My family along pays N300K per month and we would be making nothing less than N50,000 monthly to go to that work that generate N300K to LASG. Is this fair?

Which one of what I said is a lie? You are the one being economical with the truth if you say traffic has not improved on that road. At peak times in the morning, how many hours was it before from Lekki to VI, and at the evening peak period, how many hours was it from VI to Lekki and how many hours is it now??
If you can truthfully answer that it is the same, then I'd give you the award for bare faced lying.

My friend, your houselhold pays 300K in taxes monthly is the reason you can afford to stay in those estates in Lekki Phase1. When you were not paying the toll, you needed to wake up at 4:30am just to ensure you keep that same job you pay the 300K taxes on and get back home at probably 9:00pm.
Now that the road is done, you sleep longer, get home more refreshed and have time for that your household. Now tell me if you do not see the difference.

By the way, you can go from Lagos to Kaduna in an 8-hour drive or fork out money for a 1-hour flight, it's a choice of what is important to you.

Also, alternative routes to highways are usually almost identical to the highways themselves, except that traffic on them are sometimes slower and the drivers may have to deal with such things as numerous traffic stops, and drive slower due to slower traffic miles per hour requirements.

And the alternative to the Autobahn in Germany is what road?

Basic common sense also tell me that providing a extra lanes, better facilities could come at an extra cost. Common sense lets me know that you would be expected to pay more in a service flat than just a rented apartment even if you expect govt to provide the same amenities provided by that estate.

The fuel subsidy removal has nothing to do with paying toll, with or wothout the fuel subsidy, people are still expected to pay toll.

I am quite amazed at all the emotions displayed so far, but hardly any gainful analysis of the toll situation. All I see are abuses and various vituperations. It's quite a bad taste indeed.

For me, the Lekki toll situation is first a lesson for Fashola in public perception management and also ability to engage stakeholders properly.

Truth be told, prior to the LCC's so called "adding one extra lane",  a trip from Chevron to Ozumba junction can take like 3 hours!!! Now that same journey takes about 15 minutes. Which one would Lekki residents prefer?

The so called alternative route through Oniru did exist before the LCC construction, but what was its state prior to now, how many people ventured to pass there when the Mobil junction was still a single lane? Now that same road can be used as an alternative to the 1st Toll Plaza. So indeed there is an alternative route if one doesn't feel inclined to pay toll, only problem is you can't expect the alternative to be as good as the main one.

Now many have said it is not only the rich that stay in Lekki, that is indeed the truth. The other truth however is that the poor should not pay, AND they would not pay. They do not pay as they simply do not own cars. The toll is for vehicles passing, not for human beings. And BRT buses are available as public transport for them to use.

Also while Lekki is majorly residential, there are many companies also making Lekki there head office/warehouse/factory/office thus Lekki is not entirely residential as there is even an EPZ right there.

Now tell me, why is the computed cost for the so called average "poor family" in Lekki based on 2 cars!!! Are we saying a family with 2 cars is poor To my mind the average poor family would not have 2 cars, neither would they need to commute to VI daily except they work there. Also, the only reasons indigenes would commute to VI daily is for work, or are they going on a visit to relations daily?

This is a protest by the elites who wants to enjoy the benefits of the expanded road but would rather not pay a dime to get it maintained. The hypocrisy needs to stop. This so called villagers are using that same upgraded road as reason to sell their lands at 2.5M per plot rather than the 900K it was before the upgrade. So who is fooling who?

Both devices have their pros and cons. However, i'll go with the iPad 2 over the Galaxy Tab. Much more apps are available for the iPad than on HoneyComb. Also, the iPad 2 has a far more powerful GPU so games can look more detailed on the iPad 2 than on the Tegra 2 powered Galaxy Tab 10.1

ALL devices have their pros and cons. The more powerful GPU of the iPad only makes a difference in graphiocs rendering for games, however, once you are in actuall productive applications, the more memory and native processor speed of the Galaxy tab would give it the edge.
BTW, out of the ove 500,000+ apps currently available for the iPad, how many have you actually installed?

THE reconciliation efforts of the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appear to have started yielding fruits in the Oyo State chapter of the party, as about 2,500 members, who defected to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) before the last general election, have returned to the umbrella party.

The returnees, led by a former vice chairman in Ona-Ara Local Government Area of the state, Honourable Mosobalaje Bakare, were welcomed back to the PDP in Ward 1, Akaran area of the local government by Alhaji Waheed Adurodekun, who is the council’s party chairman, on Wednesday.

Honourable Bakare, who is a staunch supporter of former Senate leader, Teslim Folarin, thanked the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Ms Olajumoke Akinjide and her father, Chief Richard Akinjide, for facilitating their return to the PDP.

The leadership and the rank and file of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the local government had earlier defected to the PDP where they were received by the minister and the state party chairman, Chief Dejo Afolabi.

He explained that although the division within the party preparatory to the last election caused the party the governorship seat in the state, the reconciliation exercise of the party, which he said was genuine, would return the PDP to winning ways in the state.

“A few minutes before we came here to formally return to our home, a chieftain of the ACN telephoned me and asked if it was true that we were going back to the PDP. I replied him “Yes.” While at ACN, we never obtained their party membership card; we only helped them to win the election.

“Other members of the PDP, who went to the Accord party because of the rift, are also coming back soon en mass soon. Accord Party is like an iced block that alienated itself from water. There are only two ways to make it become water: allow it dissolve naturally or heat it with fire,” the former state organising secretary of the PDP said.

In a welcome address earlier, Alhaji Adurodekun described the returnees as PDP members who went on self-exile to form the building block of the ruling ACN, saying that the house of the broom party had collapsed with the development.

He told the new members that they were eligible to hold any party office in the coming congress, adding that the last election was PDP against itself.

At the bolded, if true, then they were actually never members of ACN but only supported ACN.

Apparently, you have no sense of timelines! Nigeria started allocating 200,000bpd crude for internal consumption in 1985.
Buhari met the crude for products stuff in 1977 and to stop it instituted the building of two new refineries.

Right now, we allocate 300,000 bpd to local consumption, but since the refineries are not working, can you please tell me what GEJ/Diesani have been doing with that allocation?

Buhari has spent 90% of his political life being chairman of the NNPC. He formed NNPC into what it is today. Indeed, Buhari was its first head in 1977 during the period corruption set into the oil industry (Decree 33, NNOC & MPR extinguished).
He was also petroleum minister under Obasanjo, PTF chairman under Abacha (whom he claims never stole a penny).
With Buhari under Abacha, there was rampant removal of the "subsidy" and award of importation contracts to cronies, Buhari became the chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) that disbursed monies accrued from the removal of "subsidies."

So tell me, is Buhari being honest, or is he just flying an ugly populist kite?

@Beaf, how come you are conveniently forgetting that the same Buhari as head of the NNPC in 1978 built 2 new  refineries, a petrochemicals and fertilizer company between 1977 and 1979?  Was the history books torn when it got to that part or you suddenly had river blindness so couldn't read that part?

Note that the man built 2 new refineries within 3 years while PDP has not even been able to make just one work in 12 years.

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detailed how the detained immediate past governor of Gombe State, Danjuma Goje, allegedly perpetrated N52 billion fraud

while in office between 2003 and 2011.

The documentation was contained in an 18-count charge of money laundering and misappropriation of public funds, filed against him on Wednesday morning at the Federal High Court in Gombe by the anti-corruption commission.

The charge was filed by the prosecuting counsel, Mr Wahab Shittu.

In count one of the charge, the commission disclosed that the former governor spent N5 billion on supply of food to the Government House during his eight-year rule.

The count read in part: “That you, Danjuma Goje, between 2003 and 2011, conspired with four others to steal N5 billion through supply of food to the Gombe State Government House.”

According to the commission, Goje gave the controversial contract to his cousin, Alhaji Sambo Muhammed Tumu, who was also charged along with him.

Tumu was said to have been the sole supplier of food items to the Government House throughout Goje’s stay in office. Commission’s spokesperson, Mr Femi Babafemi, confirmed the filing of the charge to the Nigerian Tribune.

I would love to hear what EFCC has to say about the GEJ administration, by the provision in the 2011 budget, GEJ would, if the costs stays flat, spend the same amount on food stuffs if he spends 8 years in power.

I am amazed at how you can read that what was published was lies. Reuben Abati only claims that the skewed numbers of projects approved for the ND, were not initiated by him but by Yar'adua. Now does the fact that they were initiated by Yar'adua mean that the statistics was wrong or a fabricated?

We do need to start reasoning very well while reading this stories. The Daily Trust reports talked about projects approved during a specific time scale and Abati was referring to projects that are still being considered as reasons to dispute the statistics.

Anyway, I think the politicians take us for a ride cos, we seem to enjoy the ride as we do not use our wisdom to read betweeen the lines.

1. PPPRA fixes prices because it is not a deregulated market. They will not be relevant in a deregulated market. There will be a new bill to implement a deregulated market and organisations like PPPRA will not be relevant or will have completely different briefs.
2. Government could not build refineries because they spent all the time doing coups and counter coups and politicking. Even your beloved Buhari did not add anything to the development of the refineries while he was president and while he was petroleum minister. We are still using the refineries built by Gowon and OBJ in his first rule.
3. Refineries take time and mega money to build. It is not like you are building roads.
4. Marketers dont build refineries. Investors and Oil drilling companies build refineries. Marketers are simply that. Marketers!
5. There is nothing in it that is more than it seems. You guys want a change of the country but are not willing to put up with things that will bring change. Where you thinking that change will come easy? It will come with a lot of sacrifices and stuff that will bear on the population. But there are decisions that must be made and actions that must be taking and some of us support it because we think long term not immediate gains

You are obvioulsy uninformed! The last TWO refineries in Nigeria were built when Buhari was Petroleum Minister. He oversaw the building of two refineries and NAFCON. Go check your facts.

I have no doubt that the said letter was a forgery. Obasanjo tends to write this sort of letter by hand, not typed or printed.

No surprises here anyway, since the newspaper is owned by a renowned master forger. "Bola Tinubu" used to forge American Visas in Ibadan in the 60s and 70s, around Cocoa House. He may have entered the United States himself on a forged visa!

Let the investigation commence, and if they're found liable, let them be charged to court and if found guilty, let the book be thrown at them as a lesson to other lazy, incompetent, conniving Nigerian brown-envelope journalists.
