Taking out the BBM and BIS connectivity from the BB is like taking away the Apple appstore from the i4, the i$ becomes just a flash disk. However, I am more inclined to compare them when you have the full experience bundled on the two phones, then you would see the clear leader in productivity is the BB. As a multimedia system, the Torch 9800 even beats out the i4, so other than the overblown issues of millions of apps (for which an average person has 10) then there aint nothing more.

My Nokia E72-1; with a great batterry life, it's as fast as lightening speed, moderately adorable camera, unbeatable flexibility features, great adaptability features, unlimited and unmatchable dynamism, just to mention but a few!
Android is another great OS, it's fast, dynamic and very smart too. At least I have used the sony erricsson xperia x8 with android and it proves good.
Blackberry is just a crap meant to be an ordinary fruit. All its life is locked to the BIS systematic extortion/slavery.
Whoeva that wants great functionality in a fone should embraze a Nokia E or N machine so as to have the world in your pocket.

FYI, the productive world in your pocket is a BB. Now most of you confuse comparing a BB Curve to an E or N0series Nokia, that is like comparing the curve to the Nokia 3310, they aint equals. Compare the Nokia E/N to the Torch 9800 and then come back to post your results.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate bbs but simply prefer Android becos of the open source platform. I'm currently overclocking my 1ghz processor at 1.3ghz which makes my ageing Samsung GT already faster than the yet to released bold touch.
Blackberries are built with quality in mind, so they are good, but so are samsungs and htc.
Bottom line, its all about individual preferences. For now I'm sold on Android, having used the following.

My guy, on the SE doing 720p 3 years go, that definitely aint true! I've used every single SE Smartphone ever made till SE embraced Android. So I'd know.
On the car fault, what you haven't seen is an app for EBDII decoding, I don't need it and thus having searchjed for it. However, I can only say that whatever app you have is for getting the translation of EBDII codes and not actually EBDII decoding as no phone has the required connector. For this, google is a good solution.

Hmmm, you definitely aint gonna overclock a phone CPU, that is just some random bullshit. Also, note that a performance of a phone is not entirely dependent on its CPU speed, other factors like bloatware, tuning and OS would play a major part in it.

BTW, Skype is mainly for voice calls, the video call is an added functionality.

You however still haven't told me what the Android phone does that I BB cannot do! But if the Samsung rocks your world, just stick to saying its a personal choice and not that it is backward.

Mobile banking? Nothing so special about that. Its been in existence for a long time. Banks like UnionBank, GTB, FirstBank all have their mobile bank applications.

The difference now is that you can use the UBA U-mo to transfer money to ANY Bank account in Nigeria. So it makes no difference where the recipients banks with, you can transfer money in real time into their accounts.

I have been using this for quite a while now and it has been a real saver during my current project. I get to the market, agree prices and do the transfer to the seller's account, pick my goods and drive off.

Symbian OSs drive both smartphones and dumbphones just like Android, only iOS, BBOS and WP drive specifically smartphones market. Thus when you lump ALL the phones together, Symbian would have an edge, but when you analyze only the smartphone market, that is a different story all together.

8MP camera, hmmm, if you are an avid photographer, you'd know that on your phone screen, 8MP would be an interesting and very good camera, but, and a big but, what is the optical zoom capabilities?
It is when you see its optics capabilities you would realise that a 5MP with better optics is far more desirable to a 8MP with mediocre optics.

Flash, all BB browsers support flash. From your statement about dual cores vs single core, I can deduce that you are not that much inot technologies. Which would be faster, a single core 1.5Ghz processor or a dual core 1Ghz processor? Trying to find the answer would help a lot.

RIM is playing catch up with Android and IOS but they never will be able to. The yet to be released bb torch and bold touches though sporting a 1.2ghz qualcom processor is still single core compared to some android phones out there that already sport dual core processors. You can't possibly do HD 3D video playback smoothly on anything less than dual core.

HD video recording? The Torch 9800 has been doing that for more than 2 years now.
Skype: Has been available for such a long time it is amazing you didn't know about it. And whats more, it costs less on BB as you've paid a bundle for the internet traffic than it cost on the other platforms.
OBD II Scanner? Once you have the application installed then you can use it, it is like me asking if you can use your iPhone to access company intranet sites?

There are many browsers to install on the BB just like on other platforms. BB is definitely playing catch up in the areas of apps and available effects & games, but for serious minded use, it is way ahead of the others.

4g is definitely the way to go, but for now, 4g is only available to less than 5% of the mobile phone users worldwide. Even in US, the 4g network coverage is still less than 20% of the country.

And Blackberry has 4g phones in the market already, you can check their website to confirm.

The OS is definitely not outdated, except you can tell me one thing that an iphome or an Android device can do that the Torch 9800 running BBOS 6 cannot do. And by the way, you call an OS that can do securely what other OSes cannot do outdated? Well, maybe if you are analysing their bling-bling capabilities.

Why do Nigerians love the BB, simple it offers communication and socialising at the best cost possible. To correct you, the OP asked about a smartphone, though not necessarily for business, which was definitely pioneered by the BB.

Just as you would have read, people have different opinions about different phones. Therefore, it is really up to you to list you needs and tick the phones off as they meet your requirements. You are the one to use the phone and the one to pay the bills for its use, go through many reviews and don't forget to do hands-on on the devices if possible.

Below are my personal opinions on these phones:
Email integration: While the others would poll your mails, BLackberry would push it to your phone. This means your mails would arrive on your phone faster on the BB than any other phone. Also, due to its push and use of NOC the total cost of delivering mails to you are cheaper.

Document handling: Almost all smartphones can enable you view documents, with some rudimentary edits, only the Blackberry brings the full office experience to you. This means almost all the Excel functions are available for you on your phone plus it allows you to create presentation slides.

Instant Messaging: The Blackberry Messenger is the de-facto IM standard that all the other smartphone makers are trying to recreate. It enables you to share, socialise and have instant communication with fellow BB users. Note however that except on the iphone, there exist cross-platform apps that would allow you to communicate with others just like the BBM but like I said they are all trying to emulate the BBM.

Internet: All smartphones allow you to browse the internet. The beef here is all about which is faster, but truly the difference in speed are in seconds rather than minutes. However you might want to know that the Blackberry browser is till the most secure as it implements the full https spectrum, which is why for now, its still the only platform.supporting the Verisign secure payment standard.

Build: When it comes to build quality the Blackberry phones are definitely rugged and with polish. They are in my opinion followed by the Nokia E-series phones in quality. The Samsung and HTC  are generally of lower quality but right now, HTC is rebuilding its brand and this is reflecting in the quality of its newer models. You can also count on the build quality of the iPhone. You might want to know that that Blackberry is however the only maker to make so called smartphones for the.lower class, hitherto smartphones are seen as 'bigger boys' toys but Blackberry still makes some affordable ones at lower cost but with all the smartphone functionalities.

Apps ecosystem: The apps ecosystem for the Android and iOS platforms are clearly ahead of the competing platforms of BB, Symbian or Windows Phone. However, the availability of 50,000 apps really makes no difference to the average user, most would use between 7 and 15, but one should recognize that choice is readily available on both the iOS and Android platforms.

Cost of Use: The Total Cost of Owning a smartphone on the BB platform is significantly lower than other competing platforms due to the fact that RIM (the maker of Blackberry) using its NOCs and agreement with vendors ensures that data usage is maximised and a cheaper cost to the user than the competing platforms.


The above are what I term as important, you may have other things you consider important and you need to decide which platform.suits your needs.

I think what he is trying to say is that, Apple is a tech based firm whose success is based entirely on Human resources (Tech and Innovation), while Exxon Mobil which is an Oil company and whose success is largely based on Natural resource. Note it clearly, your year of graduation is the year your school publishes your name, as that is when they certify that you have completed all academic work and they also find your worthy of being called a graduate of that school. Prior to that time, you are still a student, even if you have no course work. This is why your certificate is always dated with your year of graduation.

In this particular case, I would like to know if her certificate reads 1987 or 1992.

While i hold no brief for the NBC over tv stations, i however know that the current policies does not support a full fledged religious broadcast organisation. And until the policies are changed to support it, all religious broadcast license request would be denied.

In the same vein, the current banking policies and regulations does not support islamic banking, but to ensure it does, the guidelines and policies are being modified. This explains the entire public debate about it. And once the policy is endorsed, it would be supported by all organs of government, CBN, NDIC, NA and judiciary.

I always say that ignorance is the biggest problem in Naija. The point of this whole thing is that the Nigerian state is a secular state and should never be seen supporting any religion. The involvement of the CBN as as a state owned institution in Islamic banking simply negates that principle and sets a precedence for many problems that could lead the country into serious problems in the future. That is why some people have come out to say the issue could cause Naija to disintegrate and they are very correct. Several years ago, churches wanted to register and own radio and TV stations. They were told clearly that they could not since Nigeria is a circular state. These churches had to go to south Africa to setup these stations. Their programs on TV are even monitored and they are told that they cannot show certain things on TV. Inspirational FM in Lagos was almost closed down because they were accused of playing too much Christian music and that the society was a circular one. So tell me how this same circular society with all these restrictions on Christian content is suddenly now sponsoring an Islamic bank. Please forget the non-interest name tag. It is Islamic banking. The only reason for giving someone a non-interest loan is because you want something else from him. These are fundamental strategies for pushing Islam around the world. I do not mean it is wrong. I just dont agree that the government should be the one championing it. If Moslem leaders have resources and want to use it to push Islam, that is fine, but the government is a circular one and should not be pushing these things. This is a dangerous trend which if not checked will bring this country to a halt.

Hmmmm, the Nigerian secular state organisation is NOT sponsoring an Islamic bank. CBN as a regulator is setting out policies and guidelines for the operations of Islamic banking in Nigeria.
