The govt asks d church for quotation for sound or asks for a consultant to give them a bill, the govt will not tell you not to give them a bill of 25million for sound system, what d govt will do is add an extra 20million or more to your quote. This is the point I'm trying to make. The whole system is corrupt. Or is it the president that will go to the market to buy fuel or buy projectors? Let's be realistic here. What we are looking at is a situation where some people exploit the country while instead of condemning these people, we blame everything on d president, afterall he is d easiest person to blame. The whole system is corrupt, from the church to the minster to the govt officials, to the officiating pastors asking for 2.5 million as honorarium (why not do it for free if they are working for God?)

Let's face it, I'm not defending GEJ for using our hard earned money recklessly, I am rather blaming the system which allows for stuffs like this to happen.
Are bills like this debated on by any agency or maybe a public forum?
Where are the funds coming from? And what part of the budget is it included in?

Did you by chance see the 3.5 Million for fuelling gen? That a GEJ's appointed Minister can put this together is instructive of what she believes about the disposition of the President to inflated contracts and bogus claims. That amount translates to about 10,000 litres of diesel for 4 hours max. Tell me which kinda gen would consume that much. It doesn't take rocket science for an upright person to know this is a bogus value.

For the Minister to send in such a quote, she definitely knows the modus operandi. Just like the Project co-ordinator you alluded to in your own instance. GEJ is the equibalent LG chairman!

To me it's simple: Were they attacked because they were corpers?  Were they waearing their corper attires? No where in the story did the driver shout that they would be dealt with because they were corpers. This could have been a random attack that simply had the victims as corpers.

NIFI is in itself not a problem, the issue with it is the tag of religion that it bears and unfortunatley, Nigeria is a circular state and the current enbaling law clearly forbids such. If he gets the BOFIA amended then there is no issue, but as of NOW, the NIFI as spelt out contravenes the national act.

Hmmm, policies are supposed to take off for a federating unit throughout the federation at the same time, otherwise that policy would be threatened.

Like for this policy, using the same account, you would say if I am in PH, then I can only get 150K but should I drive one hour away to Owerri, then I can collect 5M from the same account. What this promotes is the tendency for both the customers and the banks to start looking for avenues to by-pass the limitations of the policy. This might seem to point to the lack of monopoly, however a more than cursory look at this companies would reveal the following as the ACTUAL owners of these companies:

Lafarge - Dangote; Ashaka - Dangote; UniCem - Dangote; Eagle Cement - Dangote; Ibeto - - Dangote; BUA Cement - Dangote; Cement Company of Nothern Nigeria (former BCC) - Dangote

Now, do you see the monopoly? That this brands continue to exist by their different names is only to mask the true identity. You can google to read up on how Dangote acquired Eagle Cement and the part government agencies played to facilitate it.

The main question however is, how has the governors who have been from the SS benefitted the region in the past 12 years? Alams & GEJ governed Bayelsa for 8 years and in those years + the 4 years of Silva, what has been the result?

Until Amaechi came on board in Rivers, what had been the benefits? Did they give you water, light or roads? Lagos has more land mass that Bayelsa but receives about 1/4 of what Bayelsa receives monthly, yet Lagos has tarred more roads in the past 4 years than the entire road network in Bayelsa. More schools were renovated in Lagos than the entire number of schools in Bayelsa.

The above is to let you know, that outside of the national things mainly Power (energy), most of the developments is driven by the Governors. And those are the ones we need to learn to ensure they are accountable.

BTW, if we keep saying zoning is bad, how come in each state or senatorial district across Nigeria, zoning is still a factor in selecting candidates?

Buhari and co thought that they were going to win without southern and middle belt votes. He was wrong. Yes, 2011 election was much better than 2007 election that ushered in Yar'dua- a northerner and there was no riot. PDP openly rigged for Yar'dua and he contested against the same Buhari - the only "honest" politician ever created by God and northerners didn't feel short changed. This year, northerners feel that southerners voted for a wrong candidate -JEG, while southerners feel that northerners voted for a wrong candidate. By the requirements of the constitution, he need not win in the South. He simply had to do 1 of two things below:
1. Get majority of the votes.
2. Get enough votes in certain states across the nation to ensure the main leader does not get 25% in enough states.

The PDP rigging machinery was only deployed in the North to ensure PDP got the 25% votes requirements. Those votes were either stuffed or allocated.

Based on what I know about this elections, and what I have now come to light, I cannot honestly say if GEJ would have won on the 1st ballot. Note here, GEJ could possibly have won at the end of the day, but he definitely would not have won on the 1st ballot.

One assumption that has been made about the presidential election in the North is that CPC was rigging. Allow me to ask one very salient question: Are we saying that CPC would have the ability to rig an election in a PDP controlled state? Or that the PDP Governor of a state would deploy the state resources to rig for the opposition party?

CPC might have supporters in the North but it definitely does not have the machinery to rig elections in the North. The party with the machinery to rig in the North is PDP and they clearly have used it very well and subtly. They need not rig the elections to win it for PDP, they simply ensured that GEJ had the required 25% of the votes in their respective states. That is the rigging that PDP did in the North.

For the SS and SE, it was simply ballot result stuffing. Yes the turnout was massive, but it was no way as near the 90% being recorded by the results sheet. Many of those votes were allocations or multiple voting/ballot stuffing.

To me, if we because we wanted GEJ to win accept this fraud, remember, in 4 years time, PDP would still use the same machinery to rig. We cried foul in 2003 but as we wanted OBJ we said continue, we saw a worldwide acknowledged rigging in 2007, but because we wanted peace, we accepted it. Now in 2011, the same PDP is rigging and because our man is declared the winner, we want all to shut up. Hmmm, 2015 is not too far away and the same party would be waiting.

If there is one thing I ve learnt after the NAS elections last week, it is not to follow the analysis and predictions of Nairalanders; a lot of them are usually based on hear-say, deliberate distortion of fact and silly exaggerations to suit their purpose.
The way people were shouting and hyping the ACN and CPC last weekend, you would think the PDP will not constitute 30% of the assembly seats, however, when INEC started  releasing results, it was very clear who was winning and who was just shouting.
I see thesame trend here again, people shouting CPC is taking over the North and bla bla bla. . .
In lagos state for instance, PDP won in almost every polling unit I visited in Surulere and Mushin by wide margins, Obviously CPC did not do too well and ACN probably sold out to the PDP because in my area, it was thesame ACN agents mobilising votes for their candidates last weekend that obviously were organizing for the PDP today, that says a lot.
In the north, especially in the NW, the CPC may do well better than the PDP but I see the PDP maintaining a good follow up that will guarantee the needed 25% spread needed. In the NE and NC the PDP will do well just as they did in lagos state.
Forget all the inflated results and underage voting going on in some parts of the north, the PDP has got a good following even in the north that Buhari and his party cant command anywhere in the South.
And lets not forget, even if Buhari wins by number( which I find impossible) and  his victory does not have the required  spread, GEJ will be declared winner even if he comes below with a widespread number. But it wont even get to that stage anyway.

I am sorry to burst your bubble on the bolded part above. It is not as you have stated, to be declared the winner, the candidate has to also win the popular votes. It is after winning the popular votes that the required spread comes into play.

The electoral act is clear, to be declared as President, the candidate needs to fulfil TWO conditions
1. Win the Popular Votes (i.e. has the majority votes across the nation)
2. Win 25% of votes in 2/3 of the states.

@Akainzo you just said what happened in your place but you did not tell us the state, LG, Ward or even Polling unit. We need information that can be verified. You never can tell, such information can play a role in pursuit for justice.

My unit is in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. You need to know that intelligence is knowing what is right but wisdom is knowing is being able to make the right decisions. When I accessed the situation, I knew I could be a statistics if I attempted to bring out a recording device.

Like I said, every single one of them was in on the rigging. Including the police and the observers! The observers made a show of overseeing one of the polling units (There were 4) but they left the others completely alone to do whatever was agreed. I probably would not be writing this or maybe, from an hospital bed if I had attempted a video evidence. My mama still needs me.

It is possible when the results were announced, he challenged it by identifying that his vote was not counted and thus they knew who he voted for and that he has a  valid basis to challenge/invalidate the result of that polling unit.

The number of eligible voters in the North has always been over inflated with such methods. GEJ openly announced to people NOT to rig for him and not to be violent. Buhari could not tell his people not to use underage voters. At the end, he will be frustrated. If he decides to complain, he should be ready to lose those underage votes also.

Yes he openly announced that they should not rig fr him, but he secretly mobilised them to rig for him.

I almost got beaten up today for daring to speaking  up against what was happening. The rigging in favour of PDP in the SS is very pathetic and they justify it by saying the North is also rigging too. DO not be surprised when the same as the Odili elections plays out again, 100% voter turn out.

In my area, the corpers, police and observers were in on it. I later learnt a million was promised to the unit and by the time the votes count began, there was commotion as the police hadn't received their pay and thus a kind of rebellion ensued which delayed the announcement. I personally witnessed the ballot stuffing.

Fresh facts emerged yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan’s talks with the Mallam Adamu Ciroma-led Northern Political Leaders Forum collapsed because he refused to accede to two demands by the Forum.

The demands are: a written undertaking that he would spend only a term in office and ensure that power shifts to the North in 2015.

They also asked him to make a broadcast to the nation on these two commitments.
But the President has rebuffed the NPLF leaders over these demands and decided to bear his cross by making fresh inroad into the North through alternative power brokers and northern groups.[/b]

The NPLF, in collaboration with Igbo Political Forum, had on Thursday technically withdrawn backing for Jonathan during the forthcoming April 9 poll.
Investigation by The Nation confirmed that the refusal of the President to meet up with these demands actually accounted for the deadlock at last Friday’s meeting with the NPLF leaders.

A top source, who was privy to the talks, spoke in confidence on the grey areas that led to the stalemate.

[b]The source said: “The NPLF leaders raised issues bordering on non-respect of commitments and agreements by the President.

“They therefore asked the President to enter into a written agreement that he would leave in 2015 and that power would shift to the North in 2015. The Peoples Democratic Party would have to be part of the new power deal.

“They even asked him to go the extra mile to make the agreements public through either a press briefing or broadcast before they can give him support.
“They said unlike 2002, they want to hold the President and the PDP liable for these new proposals. They hammered on the question of trust.“ They said they decided to ask for these so that all Nigerians will be witnesses to history.”

But it was gathered that Jonathan considered the demands of the NPLF as undemocratic and unrealistic.

The President queried the rationale behind 10 to 15 people sitting down to determine what will happen to the nation in 2015.

A top aide of the President, who spoke in confidence, said: “It is true that the President said he cannot enter into a bond on 2015.

“He said as Nigeria ’s President, the NPLF should be able to trust him as a reliable leader who will always do his best to preserve the unity and stability of the nation.

“The President must to abide by the tenets of democracy and allow Nigerians to choose their leaders without fear or favour.

The aide quoted the President as saying:“I won’t write any undertaking. Whoever Nigerians want will be the President. Nigerians will decide their next president in 2015.

“This is a democracy, if I say this is what Nigerians should do in 2015 and they decide otherwise, will you still say that I must impose your will on them?

The source added that the President told the NPLF leaders that the fact that he initiated the talks presupposed that he wanted the best for the nation in 2011 and 2015.
Another factor which might have influenced the President’s position was the fact that he had also made the same promise to the Igbo that it would be their turn in 2015 to produce the president.
