naijafan,

Thanks for the insight, however - you mention only shopforless.com, are there other nigerian sites we could buy from using an open acceptable system like the way credit or debit cards are used in the US or Europe?

ruudie,

I can help point you in the right direction but I wouldn't spoon-feed you. What actually is your project about?

babasin,

Personally, I am working on something using php and python (a school project). Except a big company comes up with funding and resources, it will have to be an opensource project. Or what do you guys think?

Thanks my2cents.
EducationRe: NIIT Students by alexis(m): 3:47pm On Jan 04, 2007
Personally, I wouldn't recommend it.

NIIT markets itself well but doesn't live up to expectation. Indians are cheap, as a result, alot of good teaching staff always leave them and they end up hiring students and paying them peanuts; this will affect students learning.

My advice - buy books and read.
Google it
Join forums on the technology or product you intend to use.

We have the market in Nigeria, we have the resources. Why can't we create our own paypal or ebay and forget about the West?

I see alot of people are giving you their recommendations which is good. My advice to you is this: Learn to solve problems, your math skills should be good, your ability to reason intelligently will help you alot; when you have these prerequisites, then use computer programming languages to solve computing problems. My mum used to say that there are several ways to cook yam, 1. You can boil it 2. You can fry it 3. You can roast it 4. You can soak it in water and eat it with coconut. You can use about 4 ways to prepare yam.

The samething applies to computer programming. You can use different languages to solve different problems be it Java, C, C++, C Sharp, ASP.NET LISP, Perl, PHP, Python etc. The most important thing to consider is "Which language can solve my problems by meeting all the requirements". Remember, if you have good problem solving skills, you can use any langauge to solve problems.

To answer your question, I will advice you start with something from Adams i.e C. After that move up to Java, Python.

It's not only Nigeria that is facing this problem, we have the same issue here in Ghana and other African Countries. The banks aint helping and the way it works with the phone companies is that you now have to buy enough credits if you want to purchase anything with the online payment system.

In my view - I think we should have something like value card, interface with value-card dbase to make transactions. Or come up with a system similar to value-card that interface with the online payment system.

I thought the thread was about tracking Position via the Internet? GPS is not an Internet technology, it's totally different. Both work together though.
ProgrammingRe: Tracking Position Via The Internet by alexis(m): 1:44pm On Dec 18, 2006
let me explain it to you. On the Internet, you identify people with their public IP addresses. These IP addresses are assigned by the regional LIR i.e RIPE, AFRINIC etc. ISPs buy blocks of IP addresses from these upstream providers.

Now, when you signed up with an ISP, they have some info on you notably your IP address whether you use broadband, dialup pr any other form of Internet connection. That is why when someone send you spam message, you can verify who owns the IP the spam is originating from and report them. This is also the reason that most networks in the US and Europe block scam (419) traffic originating from Nigeria, they can do this because they know who owns the IP blocks.

To the difficult part - it will be difficult if the ISP can't track what their client are doing and especially if they can't provide an audit trail of who did what. Now, to the issue of identifying the user down to his or her house in Nigeria, it will be difficult because we don't have a security policy that all ISPs adhere to like the way they do in China, US and other Europe countries. If we did, beleive you me, we can track who did what.

Since the internet is not controlled by any one organization and also because of the technology it is running on, who can cover your tracks pretty well if you know what you are doing. A simple example is

1. I want to scan a popular bank E-banking website but i want to cover my track i.e I don't want them to easily figure out where i was connecting from , so what do i do - I can connect to multiple proxies servers in various countries, then finally connecting to the banks site. The bank will see the proxies IPs but not mine. This is a trivial example.
ProgrammingRe: Tracking Position Via The Internet by alexis(m): 12:57pm On Dec 18, 2006
it's possible but will involve alot of time. You will need pretty good computer forensic team because the internet is all about IP.

biyibabe,

We are contributing, where we criticize, we do that constructively (no one should be scared of criticism). What I am trying to drive home is that - you can't (as a man) marry a muslim woman if you are non-muslim but you can marry from any other religion (as a muslim man), my question is why?

I go a step further and say if a muslim man can marry from any other religion then it shouldn't be an issue when a non muslim man wants to marry a muslim woman? The topic here is marriage, not sex, I hope you understand?

It is getting kind of difficult sending the .pdf file to everyone that ask for it because it's a 7MB file and also because when I send the file - it sometimes bounces back or goes into some you guys junk folders esp folks that use yahoo.

I have decided to upload it my website where you guys can download it. So, if you want the ebook and others, visit www.alexdehaini.com

Sarauniya,

What facts, that is alright for a muslim man to marry a christian lady whilst it is a taboo for a christian to date or marry a muslim lady or it is stated in the koran to kill unbeleivers whether by blowing yourself up or chopping off their necks?

If Islam doesn't support blowing yourself up, why do musilms (whether they are arabs or only a handful) do it all the time? Fine, they might do it for a political reason but they do it in the name of allah. Perhaps we will need another thread to debate on that.

I raised these points because olabowale made it a religious matter and alluded that christians were immoral.

olabowale,

Thanks for the site answering-christianity.com. I read most of the topics and to tell you the truth, it's a futile attempt to discredit the most popular book in history, the Bible.

However, the statements I made earlier where not clarified by the site you sent me to. I made a few statements and what I expected you to do was to answer them instead you sent me to a site that is trying to make the incorruptable word of God a corruptable one. I would have answered a few statements on the site i.e. "9/11: The biggest lie in history!". The site categorically denies the that 9/11 happened. To gently disarm it's stipulations, I will ask you, Where you in the US during 9/11? I had a cousin that worked on the 87th floor and for some reason he woke up late and didn't go to work that morning, that was what saved his life? yet your site denies this. There are 1001 people that can confirm this yet your site has decided to deny it. All I can say to that is WOW!

You see, everytime we try to put the koran under scrutinization, our muslims friends try to divert attention to other things. If you had opened a thread about contradictions in the bible, many christians on this forum will try to enlighten you and explain what the bible meant but instead of answering my questions, you sent me to some site that is twisting everything. Just answer the questions you were asked.

The muslim heaven is a one-sided heaven for men only, it doesn't cater for women in Islam because what it talks about mostly is sex, drinking and having wild fun. Does this mean that the muslim god doesn't intend for muslim women to go to heaven?
