Again, ALTERNATIVE ROUTE = DRAINAGE SYSTEM (MAN-MADE/ARTIFICIAL). And I also told you I do not buy your argument that it is expensive and it is not what Government should do. Did I not?
cheesy cheesy
ok we on the same page here, we both agree that alternative route=drainage system.i am not disputing that with u kobo.

secondly, think about it. compare the NEW drainage with the old ones but just cleaned up. which would be more expensive.

imagine u have a car and ur car is dirty. whould it not be better to clean up ur car than bay a new one wink

u suggested the water should be redirected to a tank. but what tank would hold millions of gallons of water in a state ?. so i said are u suggesting a japanese style tank

Kobojunkie:
Again, I don't hold your opinion on affordability of drainage projects to much. Reason being the other guy has been trying to claim that Government is already spending money on such projects. You do know that it makes no sense for it to be too expensive as you claim,at the same time the same Government is already supposedly spending money on the very same? You do know that by now, right?

Stop going around in circles.

Again Man-made/Alternative routes(NON NATURAL) for water drainage = DRAINAGE SYSTEM! And no, the government has had FOUR YEARS . . not two months or two days to fight the floods. Last year, if you did not know . . know now that there was an equally huge flood in the same State. In 2009, streets and communities were also flooded.
you sha no dey gee sha!!

ok kobo go back to the thread we had this discussion and u would see what u typed

u suggested the government to do alternative route for the water didn't u and water no get brain grin grin

and i said on that and this thread that it is expensive to do such and i would suggest the government to clean up the gutters and this would be a temporary solution given the time space it was anointed that there would be flooding in the state

secondly, u suggested that lagos state should do or invest in the sort of system japan uses for there flood or water way system or some sort of underground big tank and i said no

because i think the government cannot afford such and even if they could it would be waste of money because such a project is capital intensive.

and then i suggested that lagos state can save money and a lot of trouble by investing it's money on mapping out the topography of the land and get the natural water routes and allow the water to flow throught those routes

and even a better idea is after the water flows, it would be better if they can back barriers between the banks of those route (streams now).

, but who is to say that these gutters were not cleared or entirely blocked. What proof do we have that all gutter ways were in did blocked and measure were not taken at all to clear any of the gutters? You reckoned that he would have learnt of an impending high tide but would have done absolutely nothing to control it? Give the man some credit! He is not silly like some!

Prepared and emergency house for people who continually disregard instructions and warning and say stuff it to the law? Are you saying that these people were not aware that they lived at their own peril in a danger zone? Would this be the first rainfall they've experienced with adverse effects? Where is this shelter exactly? Who should fund them? Why should he offer shelter to law breakers? The best he could have done was warning them - which he did.

. . .and do you have evidence to the contrary?

i would think if he did all this, it would have reduce the severity of the suitation wink

you think? And this genius thought of yours wouldn't have been covered by him, you think? Give the man some credit! If you of all people can come up with this very basic solution, you don't think he would have exercised his common sense or if at all his commissioners? Give yourself a break!
to be honest i agree with u

i have no evidence to suggest that lagos gutter were not cleared but i think i have leaved in lagos long enough to know the state of the gutter grin

apart from this, i agree with your other post wink

Do you know what a Drainage system is? It is actually an ALTERNATIVE route/man-made route for large volumes of water  --- that is what a drainage system basically is. And no, it is not ordinary street gutters like the one you see in Nigeria where it starts in front of your house and ends two houses down. A drainage system/canal/That you find this hard to comprehend makes me wonder again . . . what's up? undecided undecided

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sustainable_urban_drainage_systems
kobo kobo, i made it clear in my post that alternative or man made route which mean they are the same
grin grin grin grin grin grin

kobo what u were suggesting was for the government to make an alternative route or man made route for large volume of water

but what i just said was for the government to clear the gutter which in some sense man made but it is a temporary solution

a long term solution would be to clear the natural route wink
secondly koboj, i made it clear that it is a temporary solution not a permanent solution.

u see koboj, given the circumstances that it was given to the government about a month or 2 before the flood, then a temporary solution such as the one suggested by you would have be cost effective and a temporary solution

it does not mean the water will not still cause havoc or burst it's bank but the effect would have been reduced

now

if the government is looking for a permanent solution to this problem given that it happens every year, I WOULD SUGGEST THEY NEED TO LOOK FOR THE WATER NATURAL ROUTE and make it free for water to flow natural ie a stream or something like that
how exactly do you prevent flooding of this nature besides issuing warnings and evacuating people.

should he have evacuated most of the flood zones? huh
sorry saw this late wink

ok i think the first thing he could have done was to clear the gutter ways and make sure this gutters are leading somewhere, (this can be done way under a week)

secondly, areas like abule egba and co where there are no clear drainage, i think he could have prepared an emergence house for the people and could as well had built a barrier to offer some protection for there houses and properties

thirdly, i think he could have organised clean up teams ready, so as soon as the floods ends, they are ready to clear the gutters and water ways again for the next rain

i would think if he did all this, it would have reduce the severity of the suitation wink
