Hello gurus in the house, I would like to ask some questions about B1/B2 visitor visa,

I am a student in Europe, I got an invitation letter from a university in the states to attend a 3 weeks training and seminar which i have been given a topic to present at the seminar, it was stated in the invitation letter that i will be attending one of their departmental conference during my period of visit. It also stated in the invitation letter that my accommodation, food, and local transportation will be covered and i will be picked up at the airport by the university rep on the day of my arrival in the states...These are my questions?

1. 2019, i was rejected a Canadian student visa from Nija...July 2021 i was rejected UK visa to attend a conference base on covid 19 and financial reasons and the visa application was made in Europe. What is my chance of getting approved for the US visa?

2. In 2014 i traveled to UAE.... in 2019 i visited Ghana. recently i visited Germany and turkey. Will these visited countries fly as travel history?

3. I intend to use self-sponsorship for the trip, although all my living expenses for the 3weeks stay will be covered by my host institution in the state... I have a registered business in Nigeria being run and managed by my staff while I'm here for my studies and the business documents is with me, can this prove my source of income....?

Thank in anticipation as you take your precious time to answer my questions above!

Consider these factors;
In what European country are you?
Your level of study -- Masters, Phd
Your course of study
The host university

Thanks for the reply

Actually I will be staying in my sponsors place who stays at Maryland also….. but I think it’s better i just indicate that I would be staying in the hostel maybe it would increase the chancing of getting the Admission but knowing quite well I won’t stay.

Question no 2 …. Should i indicate that I would be full time or part time student…. If been a full time student can I work cos I would like to work instead of depending on my Sponsor alone…

Please I would appreciate if you can enlighten me more about this.. Thanks

ALL international students are presumed "full time". DO NOT use the words part time anywhere in the process until you're on ground. Good luck.

So she got a job after grad last year, also married her boyfriend and now expecting. My mum’s reason for visit then (2020) was to see her and attend graduation, but it’s all different now. I might be overthinking but I don’t want it to seem like we lied.
All those changes are on your sister's side, nothing to do with your mom. She's still going as a visitor.

Hello,

My mum's interview scheduled originally since March 2020 is finally in 2 weeks time. It was moved 3 times by the embassy, as at last check, date is still intact in her portal.
I just want to know if I can fill a new DS-160 form, because circumstances have changed in the last 1 year, including reasons for traveling, my sister's status- job and marriage so she is now an immigrant.

Any advice will be appreciated.
Your sister's status changed, and not your mom's. You don't need a new DS-160

Less than 1% of the population enjoyed what you are talking about. The main population wallowed in abject poverty then. What was the %age of university graduate then.
In my village, my dad was the only person that had car around 70s. Now the whole village is littered with cars and mansions.
The people eat rice once a week. No electricity in the village then. None could afford gen then.
No comparison between now and then. This generation are enjoying more
In my university days 88-93, you hardly see students having ordinary tv's in their rooms. But now tv's is a small thing. Students now have everything, Tv, laptops, phones, tabs, car etc.

Nothing like good old days. That was only for the few rich and contented folks
It wasn't for the few then, it was the norm in the West and I was talking about Oke-Ado Ibadan, not some exclusive GRA area in Ikeja, Victoria Island, Ikoyi etc, and remember the East suffered the brunt of the civil war, recovery never started for years.

What do you expect them to say that life was much easier then than now..

Of course life was easier then than now. You leave for London on Friday to attend a party on Saturday, come back Sunday, go back to work on Monday.
Can you do that today?
Graduated from school on Thursday, started a government job 2 weeks later. Can you do that today? This was NOT the story of well connected people, but the story of average Nigerians then.
Finally, most people that travelled overseas then (for education) came back to Nigeria, not that they couldn't stay but because Nigeria was good. Can you do that today?

Pls any idea on a list of schools that offer graduate assistantship for Msc Construction Management.
GPA- 3.5/5.0
GRE- 309 (V- 153 Q- 156)

Most schools will offer some kind of assistantship depending on your qualification (subject area i.e. mathematics, physics, chemistry) and the financial recourses of the school. What state/states are you looking at for school? (to narrow the search)

Is it advisable to still go for Fall interview in September, is that going to be a minus with the Consular?
Or should one just defer and use a Spring i-20 to be safer??

If classes started and you're still waiting for interview, not a good idea. I would defer to spring semester.

Hello. Please I need guidance from experienced people here, iv seen where someone was told to tackle the reason for a previous denial in the ds160 space where we are asked if we have been denied a visa before. I wrote

"I WAS REFUSED A VISITING VISA IN 2014 or 2015(please pardon me, i can't remember the exact year). I BELIEVE THE VO REFUSED ME A VISA BECAUSE HE BELIEVED I HAD NO HOME TIES, ALTHOUGH HE WASN'T PATIENT ENOUGH TO LOOK THROUGH MY DOCUMENTS BECAUSE I HAD PROOF. SINCE THEN, I HAVE GONE ON TO GET A MASTERS DEGREE, I HAVE A THRIVING CAREER - ACADEMIA AND HUMANITARIAN FOUNDATION, I BELONG TO PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS [/color]AND HAVE MY MUM AND SISTERS HERE. THIS TIME I'M TRAVELLING BECAUSE MY CAREER NEEDS ADVANCEMENT AND EXPOSURE"

Is it okay or do I take it out and just say "YES"

In RED - Avoid blaming the visa officer (you can but choose your words carefully)
In BROWN - That happened after your interview - irrelevant to the question
In BLUE - Leave that for your interview date and be careful how you say it - " advancement and exposure" can still happen in Nigeria

Reason for previous denial "unable to prove home ties"

It’s not a red light at all

Say it was waived because of your excellent academic profile(articulated sop)

If the question was "why didn't you take any standardized test?" Your answer would have been perfect. Remember the embassy is the gateway to the school/USA and I'm not suggesting pass the test, am saying do the test (however anything worth doing at all is worth doing well).

Question - Did you take any standardized test?
Answer - YES or NO (PERIOD)

Please! please!! please!!! Listen carefully to the question and don't give a predetermined answer. Good luck

The School can waive GRE/GMAT etc but the visa officer can ask - " did you take any standardized test?" - "My school waived it" is not the answer.
Visa officers know schools waive these tests, I wouldn't take chances on that question. Good luck

Can one use a passport with just 8 months validity for US visa. I know it’s known that a persons passport has to be 2 years to apply for F1 US visa, however i cannot renew my passport if it isn’t within 6 months of expiration. My date has been set. I’ll definitely do a new passport before i travel, but i just want to know if this will pose a problem to the consular officer

If it's known that a persons passport has to be 2 years valid to apply for F1 US visa, why are you going with 8 months validity? (just asking). There's nothing that says 2 years for ANY relevant country I know, however your passport must be AT LEAST 6 months valid when you step on the embassy grounds for interview.

Hello.
Please I'm asking this on behalf of someone and it's urgent.
This fellow won a visa lottery in 2006 and was denied Visa to the state
Due to error in the information filled on the form..
The question now is that is it still possible for the person to appeal now Since 2006.

Please genuine information alone.

Admin please help push this to the front page
Regards

Regardless of when it happened (yesterday or 2006) there is no appeal to US visa denial. Your friend can apply for visa at anytime of his choosing, be mindful that Nigeria is no more on the US visa lottery list.

Until we (Nigerians) learn to respect laws at home and overseas the restrictions would be coming harder and harder on us.

And by the way the US is not looking for medical professionals the misinformation was corrected in a press release of March 27 2020; here below

********************************

U.S. Embassy Nigeria
March 27 at 1:56 PM · Public
The U.S. Mission is aware of a misunderstanding caused by a message that led many to believe the U.S. is recruiting foreign medical professionals to assist the COVID-19 response. This is incorrect. Only medical professionals with a previously approved H or J petition will receive an emergency visa appointment. We are sorry for the misunderstanding.

*********************************
If there is need for medical professionals, there are thousands of them (foreigners) in the US who need to pass their board exams to practice. That's a lot easier than the visa process.

Hello all, i created this account to seek for help. Please all suggestions & opinions are welcomed.
My brother's Intl. passport will expire in May (next month), earlier this year he visited the Nigerian embassy in the country he's in (Kuwait) & was told there are no passport pages available. He was told to hold on, barely 1 month later, everything got escalated due to the current pandemic. Going to the Nigerian embassy in UAE was suggested but countries began closing their borders & travel became restricted. Right now he is stuck & helpless & confused on how to proceed. Visiting the embassy in Kuwait again, it was suggested that he apply for evacuation to Nigeria seeing that is the only option. Another problem now is that Nigeria is not evacuating anyone back & he was told that it wasn't certain if that will even happen at all.
I know there are a lot of people in this section with experience in Int'l travel. What are the possible solutions to this dilemma? It is a matter of urgency

The Nigerian passport is a document of the Nigerian government allowing bearer to enter the country (Nigeria) without restrictions. The expiration of the passport does not prevent you from coming into Nigeria, you will be allowed departure in any country to Nigeria. There should be no issues on arrival, even by Nigerian laws, however most of our security officers don't understand or interpret the laws to suit their selfish interests.... (for bribe). Depending on your confidence, you should have no problem coming into Nigeria.....I did it once sometimes ago.

Travel / Re: USA Vs. Europe: 10 Reasons Europe Is Better Than The USA by anfanio: 7:04pm On Feb 27, 2020
Hadampson:
All of the points below are generalizations with many exceptions. However, in essence, these differences do exist between the US and Europe. Of course, there are also many differences between European countries, as well as between different parts of the US, but for the sake of brevity, those have not been explored here.

1. Europeans Work Fewer Hours.
It's no secret that Americans are overworked. Very few Europeans work over 40 hours a week, and in some countries there, they work even less. Sure, some Americans may say that Europeans are lazy and less productive, but this is simply not true.

Most European countries have much more worker-friendly labor laws than the US. Even though Americans are working longer hours than ever and with fewer benefits and rights than ever, the economy is still in the worst shape since the Great Depression. Simply being worked to the bone by employers does not equate to productivity. It only leads to American workers being more stressed and having less free time than Europeans.

2. Europeans Get (and Actually Use) More Vacation Time.
Most Europeans have a yearly minimum of four weeks of vacation, and most of them actually use their vacation time. They can do so without being looked down on by employers, because there are laws that guarantee vacation time. Many Europeans also take all or most of their vacation at one time, which is virtually unheard of in the States, where taking 2–3 days off at a time seems like pushing it.

Americans are chained to their work with hardly any free time. Whatever free time they do have is spent shopping or watching TV, whereas most Europeans travel somewhere, even if it is just domestically in many cases. It's no wonder so many Americans hate their jobs and bosses.

Many Americans take their lunch breaks at their desks and continue to work while they eat.

3. Americans Take Shorter Lunches and Often Eat at Their Desks.
Europeans actually leave their desks during lunchtime, many for an hour or more at a time. In the US, eating your lunch anywhere else than at your desk can set you up to look like a slacker who doesn't want to give "100%". But stuffing our faces in front of our monitors will not help productivity. I doubt people can even digest food properly when staring at their work.

In Europe, lunch is considered the most important meal of the day and usually involves having at least two courses—not just a sandwich and a Coke as is common in the US. If workers can actually eat at a human pace, then they are more likely to perform better.

4. Americans Are More Obsessed With Pop Culture and TV.
"It's what people will be talking about all week", is a claim many TV channels like to make about some huge TV event. The sad truth is that many Americans do discuss TV shows and other pop culture at the workplace, this usually being the only conversation topic that they can all chime in on.

Being overworked leads to just going home and flopping down in front of the TV and watching whatever everyone else watches. Talking about the lives of fictional characters or reality show "stars" is perceived as better than getting into personal issues and talking about our own lives. Europeans tend not to focus on TV shows so much, especially not as a topic of conversation.

Sitting in traffic for an hour or more on the way to and from work isn't uncommon in the US.

5. Europeans Spend Less Time Driving.
In general, Europeans drive less because public transport systems are a lot better than in the US. Americans are already stressed out by work and debt, then they add on some more by having to drive to and from work—in most cases through traffic filled with cars driven by other stressed and angry drivers.

But stress isn't the only result of driving long hours in traffic. It is also expensive, and having breakfast in cars is not a very healthy thing either. People don't pay attention to the road as much when they are focused on chewing and drinking whatever sugar-laden "breakfast" they are having.

In Europe, you have the option of commuting via (mostly) clean and well-run buses, trams, trains, etc., where you can snooze, read, stare out the window, or just relax, or have some breakfast at your leisure.

6. In America, Sports Games Are Family Affairs (and Fan Bases Are Less Loyal).
In Europe, attending sports games is not usually a family affair like in the US, where children get balloons or bobblehead dolls and the whole family goes out to watch the game. Soccer games, for instance, are almost exclusively attended by male fans in Europe, and are not meant to be a sort of Disneyland family event. European sports fans almost never eat anything during games, either; instead, they drink alcohol, which gives the atmosphere at games a more intense feel than US sports games.

In Europe, people don't go to watch sports just to do something. They go because they actually have an emotional tie to their teams. European sports teams do not pick up and move from one city to another whenever they are not making enough money like many US sports franchises do. Teams stay in their own cities for better or for worse, leading to a loyal and intense fan base and historical rivalries that most American sports simply do not have.

7. The Portions Are Smaller in Europe.
Americans are getting fatter and fatter. Europeans are getting a bit bigger too because of a more sedentary lifestyle as opposed to a few decades ago, but the US still takes the cake, and a big cake at that.

US food and drink portions are truly enormous compared to European portions. Sure, in the US you might be getting more for your money, but do you need that much more? The more you get used to, the more you'll need in order to be satisfied. Europeans have much smaller drinks as well. A small pop or coffee in the US is like a large in Europe.

European stores and eateries rarely offer XL sizes in groceries, foods, and drinks—which means there are not many XL clothes either. Less is more, especially when we are talking about overall health.

8. In the US, People Have an All-or-Nothing Approach to Exercise.
European cities are a lot more pedestrian-friendly, leading to people walking around more and being more active. In many places in the US, it is rare to see people walking from place to place; if they are, it might even be assumed that they have had their license revoked for a DUI or they are too poor to get a car.

Americans don't consider just going for a walk to be exercise: Everything has to be done in the extreme. This means power walking instead of just normal walking; riding race bikes wearing all the pro bike-riding gear instead of just riding your bike to the store dressed normally; running for miles and miles and suffering through it whilst wearing the most expensive running shoes there are instead of just not eating so much, etc. Physical activity doesn't have to be extreme, it just has to be consistent and coupled with less consumption in order to work.

9. Dressing Up for Daily Activities Is Common in Europe.
Europeans (especially women in Central and Eastern Europe) dress much better than Americans in general. You will hardly see anyone in Europe go to a mall or anywhere outside wearing baggy sweatpants, a big sweatshirt, ratty jeans or out-of-style clothes of any kind. It is also rarer for women to go out without makeup.

Kids at college dress up nicely, unlike many in the US who are okay going to class in PJ bottoms and oversized college-logo sweatshirts. Maybe it's because Europeans see each other more because they walk or take public transport that they dress up and don't look sloppy. Americans mostly see each other as heads behind a steering wheel, thus making what they wear less important.

10. In the US, Towns and Cities Often Blend Into One Another.
Vast, sprawling US-style suburbs are not as common in Europe. In the US, you can drive for miles through developed areas that look like one large city when in fact they are several separate towns that have grown together into mega suburbs. The only way you know that you have passed from one city to another is by signs dumped on the sides of the road, which can be very hard to notice.

This type of sprawl is not common in Europe, where you can usually tell when you have left one town and are entering another by the empty territories in between.

USA = Country

Is she trying to stay to give birth? if yes...sure she can. If she's planing to go to Nigeria and come back (and the visa is meant for tourism), entry is very unlikely because she would be at the late stage of the pregnancy and reference would be made to her intent during the visa interview. Good luck.

Going to give birth is not an acceptable reason for visa issuance anymore and paying a year later isn't an advantage. Assuming your visas we're renewed for tourism, what would you say you're doing in the US with a "heavy'' wife at the point of entry? (Be mindful of the first visit).

This statement get comma. Some F1 students go to Canada to renew visa instead of flying back to Nigeria
F1 Visa is a "duration of course" visa and that is why Canada would let you in (with valid Canadian visa of course), and US embassy in Canada would renew. Visitor visa is a different ball game.
