But I told them not to trust undefined CHANGE. It can be anything. Turning out to be negative change. Job losses, Naira tumbling. Those of us who warned so, looking from GMB's record, were shouted down by agbero-minded zombies. I know they will restrict my posting again on NL. Seems DSS are showing eye to Seun. |

Or those whose life savings are getting worse.
Also ask those workers at Truworths and elsewhere who just lost their jobs. |

Business › Re: Entrepreneurs What Has Kept You Going? by AreaFada2: 12:52pm On Feb 19, 2016 |
annastacia15: I am a strong advocate of the theory that an employer's aim is not to enrich you but to give u just about enough to keep you wanting more. Such was my case at my previous job, I was employed as an accountant but because I'm very passionate about making a name for myself anywhere I find myself, I took up sales and marketing in the firm and I helped the company make a lot of money during my stay there. I was supposed to earn a commission but somehow the company ended up not paying me and requested that I leave.
I was depressed and didn't know what to do. I gathered my savings, this includes all the 2k I hide in jeans pocket, 4k in shoe boxes, everything I had and I decided to open a laundry initially. The USP for the laundry was drafted and I had a feeling that it would work.... I had to work within the limits of my budget, so I set out to find an office space, it was difficult considering that landlords nowadays want to charge 2million for a 4x4 room (pun intended).
After a large manhunt for space, I had to go back to the drawing board and calculate the rate of turnover if I would use that space for a laundry. I had always had a passion for hospitality/bar/restaurant business, so I drew up a business plan for a bar business. By my calculations it was pretty fair.
Not to bore you out, i got a space, designed it myself, I must add here that it wasn't easy at all, after I paid the rent and bought some electronics (freezer, sound system et al) my money got finished, I was almost done with the place and I had no more money to continue, the items were just lying fallow, rats has even started eating the floater attached to the items. It was a bad bad period for me and i would cry everyday. finally God answered my prayers and the small side jobs (training marketing staffs for startups) began to yield fruits, I received payment and used it to complete the bar.
Today we make more more than what I used to earn per month every week. I'm not one to live a luxury lifestyle so most people don't know. Many of my customers see me as a sales girl and my bar manager as the owner, it helps them relate well with me, I get to hear firsthand what their issue/concerns are and work expediently to resolve it. I'm barely there but when I am, I feel fulfilled
What keeps me going is the fact that I can do all this when I was at my lowest, I can only imagine what I can do at my peak.
My advice to people like me: refuse to be idle! I mean absolutely refuse it, If I didn't offer trainings to startups at a token, when I actually did need money, I would have nothing to fall back to. I sold my experience and expertise for a very minute fee and it helped my business at the right time. I didn't stay down, I can't stop, I won't stop! I didn't let my former job get the best of me and I didn't let despair win. Have faith in yourself, say to urself everyday, I have done it already and it will be done and most of all PRAY!!!

Plapville, things can be a bit expensive if from abroad. We have all been through it. Anyhow, since you're from Delta and you aren't gonna stay in Benin, you could have tried build-to-rent in Lagos. Maybe just a small bungalow in Benin for proximity to Delta sake. ROI is better there. You can decide to postpone further works. Travel home in the summer and oversee the remaining work: plastering, design, tiling, windows painting etc. And get a property agent to take care of collecting rent, otherwise na story go enter. I just only manage to evict a tenant, costing 15k legal fees. 7 months rent gone. With the way Naira is falling, 1 Euro might be 600 Naira by end of July. More Naira in your pocket. |

What I know is that APC & Buhari will soon run out of excuses. Blaming GEJ has also become very lame now. People talk of "body language" inspiring fear and bringing change. If common civil servants could have the audacity to smuggle billions into a document/budget going to Buhari's own table, to be presented to Nigerians, senate and the world for scrutiny, then the body language is weaker than a counterfeit Hausa Lofinda. Fact is some poor civil servants are being made scapegoat. Is it that the government has no expert or special assistants on economy/budget to peruse such a vital document before presentation? |

TheArchangel: How will you know if not by investigating your employer? Do you investigate your boss to find out his qualifications when you're being interviewed? Anyway that's not the bone of contention here. You raised the issue of being pharmacologically and physiologically knowledgeable to administer anesthesia and I am pointing out that anesthetist can be employed for that. So the problems isn't the anesthesia but the skills of the surgeon whether quack or trained. Nigerian health system is a fraud, barbaric, unregulated and a warzone. It's either you are swallowed whole or in parts, nobody wants the other to live and patients are not left out. Things are not getting better rather they are getting worse, nobody wants to step on toes and woe betide you if you steps on someone's toes. There is no comradeship here and I am sincerely waiting for someone to step on mine To the italicised, absolutely. What you think is fact is only so in the environment you're in. Not universally. I would consider it negligence if a trained medic failed to investigate a private employer if qualified. Even more so in a country with so many quacks. That should be part of professional responsibility. In developed climes, the medical register is available online. In fact checking your docs qualification is normal. I even checked the qualification of an O & G who performed an elective cs on a relative. Even in a world class hospital. He came from a part of the world with reported cases of borrowed medical degrees. |

TheArchangel: Doing the surgery is wrong but referring to anesthesia.....there are trained physician and nurse anesthetists that are often called in for such cases.
The jack of all trades and master of none health system we operate here ends up doing more harm than good. So actually trained anaesthetists will agree to work for a person they know is not qualified to do surgery? Then things are worse in 9ja than I thought? Do you know that a high number of complications from surgery are airway/anaesthia-related? At least that's the case here in Europe where we have ultra-modern equipment including robotics to work with. |

lolaed: Are Nigerian Doctors well paid?
Can Johesu seek what they need without asking about how much DOctors earn?
Should admin staff in hospitals expect better pay than admin staff elsewhere just because they work within the same walls as Doctors? WHat is wrong is having these people compare themselves with Dr.s all the time. It doesn,t make sense. The jealousy is debilitating and affects how we do our job. True that any incessant disagreement is bad for heath care delivery. Doctors are also not paid that well compared to many countries. But see it this way too. It is also in doctors' interest that everyone gets a fair pay, including JOHESU. But naturally, human wants are insatiable. I guess the bad blood stems from the perception that doctor influence healthcare pay to their own advantage. Here in UK, junior doctors do most of the work. Consultants are very few around during odd hours & weekend. Yet junior docs payment is fairly low. Still, a house officer gets £30k just starting off and a nurse gets about £23/25k starting off. Some so called junior doctors (with up to 15 years postgrad experience & registrar level) get up to 45/50k or more per year. But striking now sometimes for more pay. |

The matter is very simple. It's like in slum areas, poor people kill fellow poor people. Whereas in rich areas, rich people patronise each other's business, get connections from each other and all get richer in the process. Even medical salaries are not really that big in the beginning. Big bucks come with seniority and when running own private clinics alongside. If health care got paid generally well, what seems like envy towards doctors won't be there. The other matter is doctors are more involved in setting the pay agenda generally, whether it's Minister of health or other senior health officials who are often doctors. Hence the perception that all is tilted in doctors' favour. Last time I argued on NL that allied healthcare people should get more recognition, someone accused me of being JOHESU. I didn't even know what it meant then. |
