gregyboy: No i believe edo as a whole would make a great country i have stayed both in edo central and edo north they regard we benins as thier ancestral home, benin empire didnt archive greatness without them, those areas was were the oba drew his foot soldiers from, in the acient times we allowed them to have thier own autonomy And thier people had a say in the governance of the ancient Kingdom..... So there was no room for injustice Edos are one we should be bothered about other Edoid tribes outside the shores of edo state like urhobo and co I understand your position. But there is an undercurrent of people feeling Benin is dominating them. It led to the state being called Edo. It should have been Benin. Because Edo was only central part of Benin City. Bendel came from Benin and Delta Provinces. Benin became Edo but Delta remains Delta. It was to remove the impression that Oba is ruler over the whole state. It would imply that if called Benin State. What people say about how they are related to Benin is irrelevant. Action matters most. Have you as Benin met a non Benin but Edo person who is a policeman or govt official in govt offices anywhere in Nigeria? 30 years back before state creation I heard Edo Central people boasting they will rather help an Hausa than assist a Benin person. The Benins are very naive regarding this relationship. Others are ready to scheme us out of anything. But Benins have this attitude of their our people and act so. Others say so but act very differently. The sooner Benins smell the coffee the better. Go check Edo Central forums online. Because they are largely anonymous they are venting their bile against Benin. They are even saying Benin are invaders from Yoruba land. That they own all of Edo originally. I just wonder if they had 67% of Edo population like Benin has. Benin would be totally made redundant. Do not let experience in university towns that are very diverse deceive you. We cannot afford enemies within and fifth columnists. Their ancestors knew their allegiance. Today allegiance is fluid and determined by where people stand to gain more from. |

Gelegele? Ijaws claim them. And some Yoruba communities in ovia Everyone within Edo South legal entities remain in situ. Simple. In Ovia, Yoruboid Edo are part of the Benin nation. Well Benin Kingdom when it comes should not include non-Benin majority areas. Unless Esan, Afemai and others agree in a referendum to join. Many Esan claim independence from Benin since about 1480s. Around when Prince Iginuwa left Benin to form what is now Warri Kingdom. If true, it means Esan left Benin just as the name Edo was introduced. Meaning they left basically as Benin not as Edo. Which makes the name of current state that includes them a fallacy due to poor knowledge of history. It's like people from Owu saying instead of Creating an Egba state, we prefer Abeokuta state. What is most important is harmony, not size or population. |

TheGodlessGod: Just like igbos and their biafra, they are landlocked and don't have access to the ocean, Benin kingdom will face the same problem if nigeria was to be divided.
Apparently only Yoruba, ijaw, itskerri, ogoni and akwa cross people have access to the Sea.
A landlocked country already put a nation at a disadvantage. It limits navy power and exports.
When I said Benin kingdom I meant Benins, esans and Edo north groups.
I would like to know your opinions on this issue.
AreaFada2 Binikingdowm Valirex Etinosa1234 Ghostwon Davidnazee Samuk Sarah20A Edeyoung Gregyboy Benin has Ughoton/Gwatto port. Europeans used to berth there. There is even plan to consolidate and dredge the port. The Atlantic is directly accessible from it. So Edo was never landlocked even before imperial times in 1440. Juliusmalema: The scenario you painted @boldes happens everywhere and not exclusive to Edo state.
People residing in Kano that are not from there speaks hausa to easily communicate and endear themselves to the people. Same happens to those in Kogi( Ebira), borno( Kanuri), Ondo( Yoruba) , Warri ( Urhobo) and the rest .So it is not exclusive.
Finally on your last paragraph, it is not a babter but historical facts been set straight. Hardly will you see an Edo or Benin person precisely without yoruba or Yoruba related name. It is not just coincidence but historical ties.
No one tells the history of themselves or the other without similarities existing.
So the scenario you painted is off tangent to historical ties of Edos and Yorubas. Both are same people.
The more reason it has been so hard to debunk certain claims.
Edos are Yorubas by blood or anything you can term it. The difference is Edo do not impose their culture on people. Have you not read the publication of genetic tests done in Southern Nigeria? It was only among Esan people that some genetic similarities with Yoruba were detected. Esan make up about 15 to 20% of Edo population. Not with Benin that people claim to relate to Yoruba. Do you know that just like many Easterners lump Edo with Yoruba, many Yoruba lump anybody after Ore with Igbo. Both sides ignorantly do so. Even so called educated Yoruba in diaspora. Your problem is that anybody who is not Igbo has to be Yoruba. This is the mental laziness caused by modern population politics of Nigeria. A very dangerous approach that will ensure that the South will never unite. So that smaller tribes prefer the neutralising effect of three bigger tribes in Nigeria than going with Igbo or Yoruba into a new country. This benefits the North. |

Juliusmalema: I hate been countered when stating the obvious truth. Even the name Oyegun has does it sound to you?
Edo is a Yoruba state. There are so much historical ties that are very difficult to untie. Bot only that nearly all have one Yoruba name or the other.
In light of this nation coming to an end, they remain part and parcel of Oduduwa republic. Hardly will you see a yoruba man saying Benin isn't part of them. Even outside both links up easily than any other tribe.
These are enough to contain all in one yoruba family I have it again and again. There is no tribe Edo people cannot coexist with. We had core Igbo and Yoruba tenants growing up. Aunts block of flats nearby also had Anioma and other tribes. Those kids from those tribes who could speak local language were often mistaken for our siblings. Even those that were not born or raised locally got on well equally. In fact those those tribe or religion were never an issue. We looked forward to eating Sallah food and meat just like sharing our Christmas food and meat. I know Benin people who named their kids after a Yoruba or Igbo friend. Also a Northern friend. Yakubu to be precise. Some Benin and Afemai speaking areas have borders with Ondo State. Some villages have shifted between Edo and Ondo depending on border adjustment. Edo are very receptive people and I believe imperial times played a big role in it. Why anyone would use Edo's openness to insinuate being part of another tribe, despite historically l, culturally, linguistically and philologically different identity is very funny. I know you enjoy Edo-Yoruba banter on Nairaland. So you are seeking another Sunday entertainment. |

The more well-off tend to separate from mistrust of authorities from actions beneficial to self. Edo is APC state.
The problem was that Obaseki went late to see the godfather of yoruba politics (Tinubu) knowing fully well his state is a Yoruba state and the people has APC at heart.
To me the visit should have been more earlier. I think his actions got Tinubu angry. A stitch in time saves nine Yoruba state in your dreams. Midwest refused to be Awo's fiefdom in 1963. Edo will again refuse to be Tinubu's fief soon enough. Any victory of APC in September may turn out to be a Pyrrhic victory. Impunity has a way of biting people's arse. How come APC has only one senator and one HoR member from Edo State? It's obvious are looking for political empire in the whole South in the service of their Northern masters. Not interested in restructuring that would favour the whole South. It is only current selfish Edo politicians (of all parties) who are seeking just power that easily forget Edo/Delta (Midwest) history and experience with Western Region. |

BE PREPARED
Everyone is telling you how to NOT catch #coronavirus, but NO ONE is saying what to do if you get it. Thanks to this nurse in the UK for putting this guide together:
Finally, some sensible advice. From a GP Nurse in the UK.
What I have seen a lot of are recommendations for how to try to avoid getting coronavirus in the first place:
• good hand washing • personal hygiene • social distancing
but what I have NOT seen a lot of is advice for what happens if you actually get it, which many of us will. So as your friendly neighborhood Nurse let me make some suggestions:
If you get Covid-19
You basically just want to prepare as though you know you’re going to get a nasty respiratory bug, like bronchitis or pneumonia. You just have the foresight to know it might come your way!
Things to start doing now:
Get 20 minutes sun on your entire body (or as much as possible) every day. This will dramatically increase your Vitamin D levels, which improves your immune system.
If affordable take a good general supplement, plus 2000mg Vit C a day. Include ZINC, SELENIUM & GLUTATHIONE.
Scott’s Emulsion is a great general tonic (cod liver oil)
Things you should actually buy ahead of time:
*Kleenex*
*Paracetamol*
*Cough medicine* of choice (check the label and make sure you're not doubling up on Paracetamol)
*Zinc lozenges*
*Throat spray* like Andolex or TCP
*Honey and lemon* can work just as well!
*Vicks* vaporub for your chest is also a great suggestion.
*A humidifier* would be a good thing to buy and use in your room when you go to bed overnight. (You can also just turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom breathing in the steam)
*If you have a history of asthma* and you have a prescription inhaler, make sure the one you have isn’t expired and refill it/get a new one if necessary.
*Meals* This is also a good time to meal prep: make a big batch of your favorite soup to freeze and have on hand.
*Hydrate* hydrate, hydrate! Stock up on whatever your favorite clear fluids are to drink, though tap water is fine you may appreciate some variety!
*For symptom management* and a fever over 38°c take Paracetamol rather than Ibuprofen.
*Rest lots* You should not be leaving your house! Even if you are feeling better you may will still be infectious for fourteen days and older people and those with existing health conditions should be avoided!
*Wear gloves and a mask* to avoid contaminating others in your house
*Isolate* in your bedroom if not living alone, ask friends and family to leave supplies outside to avoid contact.
*Sanitize* your bed linen and clothes frequently by washing and clean your bathroom with recommended sanitizers.
*You DO NOT NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL unless* you are having trouble breathing or your fever is very high (over 39°C) and unmanaged with meds.
90% of healthy adult cases thus far have been managed at home with basic rest/hydration/over-the-counter meds.
If you are worried or in distress or feel your symptoms are getting worse:
*Pre-existing risks* If you have a pre-existing lung condition (COPD, emphysema, lung cancer) or are on immunosuppressants, now is a great time to talk to your Doctor or specialist about what they would like you to do if you get sick.
*Children* One major relief to you parents is that kids do VERY well with coronavirus, they usually bounce back in a few days (but they will still be infectious) Just use pediatric dosing .
*Be calm and prepare rationally* and everything will be fine. This is to inform us all that the pH for corona virus varies from 5.5 to 8.5.
All we need to do, to beat corona virus, we need to take more of an alkaline foods that are above the above pH level of the Virus.
Some of which are:
*Lemon - 9.9pH* *Lime - 8.2pH* *Avocado - 15.6pH* *Garlic - 13.2pH* *Mango - 8.7pH* *Tangerine - 8.5pH* *Pineapple - 12.7pH* *Dandelion - 22.7pH* *Orange - 9.2pH*
How do you know you have coronavirus?
1. Itching in the throat 2. Dry throat 3. Dry couch 4. High temperature 5. Shortness of breath 6. Loss of sense of taste & smell 7. Covid toes - toes turning blue/black 8. Repeated sneezing.
Some or all of the above
So where you notice these things quickly take warm/hot water with lemon and drink. (You may add chopped garlic, ginger, teaspoon turmeric )
Do not keep this information to yourself only. Pass it to all your family and friends. OK. |
