The Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, on Saturday, told Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to be the first oil company to relocate its headquarters to the Niger Delta region. Dickson made this known when he hosted Mr. Osagie Okunbor, the Managing Director of the SPDC and Country Chairman of Shell Companies, at Government House, Yenagoa. He further appealed to the Director to help in executing critical projects, such as major roads construction, power projects, industrial park, and many others. Dickson noted that the SPDC, being the first company to exploit oil resources in the region, should relocate its headquarter to the region as his government is ready to provide land for their operation. He also pleaded with SPDC to mobilize other oil companies to partner with the state government for the successful creation of the Brass LNG and fertilizer plant projects which will create jobs and as well improve the state’s economy. Replying to what the Governor said, the Managing Director of SPDC, Mr. Osagie Okunbor, acknowledged his government’s development strides. He expressed his company’s willingness to assist the state in developing its infrastructures and economy. ….by Femi Fani-Kayode TITLE; T.B. JOSHUA: MURDER IN THE CHURCH (PART 2) I have many friends in the intelligence agencies both within Nigeria and outside. I was at Harrow School, Kelly College and Cambridge University in the United Kingdom with many that ended up in M15 and M16 and their sister agencies all over the world and we are friends till today. Most of them are decent, law-abiding patriots whose purpose is simply to ensure that their country is safe and that its citizens are well-protected. One of them, who is a good friend of mine till today and who actually heads a formidable and weĺl-known intelligence agency, recently told me that he sees his country as a plane that is in mid-flight which is being flown and piloted by the politicians and whoever may be the President, Head of State or Prime Minister at any given point in time. He said the role of the intelligence services is to ensure that the engine of that plane runs well and that it does not overheat or knock whilst the flight is in motion and whilst the plane is in mid-air. This is a profound description and eloquent testimony of what the intelligence agencies are meant to do. And all over the world most of them do it very well. These are mostly courageous and patriotic men and women who live in the grey areas of our mutual existence, who operate in the murky world of secrecy and subtefuge, who do jobs and carry out operations that few of us can do, who are hardly celebrated and who are mostly unsung yet who do such a great job at keeping us safe and who carry out such a vital and critical role. Without them we would be lost. There is, however, also a darker side. I say this because, generally speaking, these are people that are obsessed with secrecy and haunted by some of the atrocities that they and their friends and associates may have commited in the past. A few of them are cold-blooded and have multiple personalities. Worse still they are almost sociopathic in nature. They have no feeling, empathy or sympathy for their targets, their victims, the subjects of their enquiries or the objects of their interest. Most relevant of all is the fact that they do not always operate within the confines and parameters of the law. Sometimes they do the most hideous and barbaric things which is why their oath and culture of secrecy unto death is so vital. They can be very nice and pleasant on the surface but below that they are utterly ruthless and exceptionally dangerous. Their Nigerian counterparts are no different and I have worked closely with many of them over the years. As it is with all intelligence agents and spies, deception and deceit is their language and their loyalty is, more often than not, to the state than to their friends and family members. That is their training and I guess no-one can blame them for that. Finally they operate like a cult and they literally have their own strange code of conduct and coded language which is exclusive to them. Yet despite this chilling and grim analysis quite a few of them are humane and decent people who have a deep sense of what is right and wrong and who, more often than not, wish to make amends for some of the horrific things they have done or witnessed in the past. It was from a few of those that share this kind, generous and charitable disposition that I was given the true picture of things and the relevant information about what really happened to Prophet T.B. Joshua’s church and how and why it was brought down. I will not mention their names but I will tell their story. And that story is as follows. They told me why the operation was carried out, how those involved covered it up and how they attempted to hit TB Joshua the second time but failed. They told me that it was the same group of operatives that were behind the fatal “crash” of General Patrick Azazi’s (the former National Security Advisor) helicopter and how Governor Patrick Yakowa (the Governor of Kaduna state) was purposely lured on that helicopter in order for them to literally “kill two birds with one stone”. They told me how the operation was conducted by rogue elements in the intelligence agencies without the knowledge of Mr. Eta Ekpeyong, the head of the Department of State Security (DSS) at the time who was totally loyal to Jonathan but with the knowledge and support of a handful of disloyal and ruthless senior operatives from other arms of the intelligence agencies who provided the logistics, hardware, man-power and funding for the operation. They told me that there was a foreign component to the whole affair which I will touch on in part 3 of this essay. They told me that there was a religious dimension to the whole affair and about how a group of fifth columists within the security agencies in Jonathan’s government had sworn that they would destabilise his government and either kill him or stop him from coming back in 2015 and how they assisted the then opposition by providing them with sensitive and often false information to use against the government. Their view was that the country must not be ruled by a Southerner or a Christian and that Jonathan must be stopped at all costs. T.B. Joshua’s crime was that he knew too much and that he was secrety exposing their plans to those that cared for Jonathan. He needed to be discredited, stopped, “kept busy”, rubbished or permanently silenced. In part 3 of this essay I will go much futher into this matter and expose far more about this issue but for now two things remains clear. That firstly the entire horrendous episode and the terrible tragedy that occured in T.B. Joshua’s church must be revisited and properly investigated by the security agencies with a view to bringing the real perpetrators, and not their victims and targets, to justice. And that secondly the Nigerian people would do well to question ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that their government (and I mean ALL governments and not just the Buhari administration) tells them about such events or that they read, watch or listen to in what President Donald Trump so eloquently describes as the “mainstream media” (MSM). At this point readers may ask, do intelligence agencies and governments actually kill people? Unfortunately the answer to that question is “yes, they do”. This is especially so when they believe it is in the national security interest to do so or when they want to discredit or weaken the government that they purport to serve. It is also pertinent to note that when they do these horrendous things they always look for someone else or some innocent group of people to use as scapegoats, to blame it on and to carry the can. Many innocent people have either gone to jail or have been executed as consequence of this. One should also note that oftentimes they use violent criminal networks and bloodthirsty gangsters to do their dirty work for them. In return they give such men of the underworld official protection and sometimes even funding. Consequently when we hear that people were eliminated by the local mafia, a group of armed robbers or any other criminal gang, they may well have done so at the behest of one of the intellingence agencies and they would have been well paid for it. As the great writer and analyst David Icke often says, “nothing is ever as it seems or appears”. This is the way things work in the dark “cloak and dagger” world of intelligence and espionage and this is the way things are done by what has come to be known and universally described as “the system”. In the parlance of that murky world they call such practices “extreme measures”, “special ops” or “black ops” and those that actually carry out such operations (i.e. the footsoldiers that actually pull the triggers or detonate the bombs) are referred to as “wet boys” because what they do is not only deadly but also wet and messy. It is a universal practice and it is something that is well-known to anyone that has ever been in the inner circles or corridors of power. It is also utterly evil and godless. We shall look into their modus operandi in more depth with special reference to what happened in TB Joshua’s Church in the third and final part of this contribution. (TO BE CONTINUED). lalasticlala http://www.eyereport.com.ng/persecution-t-b-joshua-knew-too-much/#sthash.eHIOZv0L.dpuf |
……by Strive Masiyiwa TITLE: 4 Tips on How to Deliver a Pitch Investors Simply Can’t Turn Down Be laser-focused. Many of you asked me this week to say a bit more about “pitching,” including what the word really means. For an entrepreneur, a “pitch” is what you say and present to potential investors to market yourself, your idea and your business concept — not just to inspire them to invest, but to rush to be first in the queue! Today though, in response to your requests, let me share the first of three parts of an excellent article from Entrepreneur magazine, written by Neil Patel, a young entrepreneur who gave me permission to republish it (remember the importance of intellectual property). It’s called: “13 Tips on How to Deliver a Pitch Investors Simply Can’t Turn Down.” Today I’ll share #1 thru #4. It’s going to be decided by the PREPARATIONS you make in the months and weeks leading up to that pitch. In his article, Neil writes: “Your pitch is the single thing that could either get your business off the ground or plunge your idea into eternal oblivion. It matters. The rule of thumb for investors is that for every 100 investments they make, only 10 will go big. Let me take that rule of thumb a step further. For every 1,000 pitches an investor hears, he or she will fund only 100 of them. Statistically, the odds for success are not great. You can beat the statistics, however, by crafting a pitch that turns heads and gets funded. What are the ingredients of an ultra-compelling, irresistible, outstanding, and unforgettable pitch? 1. Take only ten minutes. Timing is critical. The less time your pitch takes, the better. A brilliant idea means nothing unless you can distill it to a few moments of sheer power. The more concise you can be, the more effective you will be. Here are a few timing pointers: # If you say that you’ll take “only X minutes,” then take at least one minute less. # If you are told, “You only have X minutes to pitch,” then take at least five minutes less. # If you say, “One last thing” or something similar, then make sure it’s truly the one last thing. # Move at a good pace. Don’t rush at the end. # If you’re using slides, don’t get stuck on one slide for more than three minutes. Here’s the great thing about taking ten minutes. If the investors are really interested, they’ll ask questions. If they’re not interested, then you will have saved them (and yourself) some time. 2. Turn your pitch into a story. Storytelling is a scientifically-proven way to capture a listener’s attention and hold it. Besides, it makes your pitch unforgettable. Investors are bored with spreadsheets, valuations and numbers. If they want that information, they can get it. What you can offer that no term sheet can convey is the story and pathos behind your startup. Everyone loves a good story, even the most data-driven investor. So, tell your story and tell it right. You’re bound to gain attention, and the funding will follow. 3. Be laser-focused. Investors’ time is their most valuable asset. If you convey a respect for their time, they will interpret that respect as your ability to treat their funding with respect. Because time is important, you need to develop an absolute focus on the core components of your pitch. What are those core components? They’re detailed in the following tips. 4. Explain EXACTLY what your product or service is. Show your potential investors a picture of, or give them the actual product to handle. Be careful not to drone endlessly on about your product. Honestly, investors don’t really care about your product as much as they care about the money that your product will make. The sooner you get to the good stuff — the money. ….. by Yomi Fabiyi PUBLIC NOTICE Is NDLEA repsonsible? Yomi Fabiyi’s statement reads; “I am calling on all senior colleagues in the entertainment world especially those close to Baba Suwe because I don’t have everyone’s contact to please reach out to him as soon as possible. ”The torture done on him by NDLEA is vastly damaging his health at an alarming rate. He told me he no longer feel comfortable since that episode. Baba Suwe is a widower, he can hardly walk properly as I speak, let alone go to film. “How will he feed and take care of the children aunty Moladun left behind? This is an A-List Entertainer and this conspiracy of silence gives me mental agony on my part, I don’t want to speak when it may be too late, I won’t forgive myself. “He told me when I visited him that he is innocent of the accusations and yet a long pipe was inserted through his anus; he was detained for too long amongst other things just because he was randomly suspected like every normal person. “In my opinion, only lazy, ill-trained, unfit and uncivilized officers torture in the name of investigation. Torture is criminal and sinful. If this accusation is found to be true by independent investigators, it shouldn’t go unpunished. “The court asked NDLEA to pay him 25 million for damages which is yet to be obeyed but to me an open apology will placate him and illustrate some dignified and civil approach from a government agency that made him go through all that without coming up with a single proof after that prolonged detention and drama. ”He who assert must prove! NDLEA needs to restore public confidence by doing the needful on this matter. And until individuals and government agency begin to respect fundamental human right and enhance duty of care, the essence of Nigeria’s freedom is far from been realistic. ”No malice is intended against NDLEA with this outcry, I just hope the leadership see this as a clarion call for getting it right and save the agency from sending an innocent person to an early grave whereby leaving his children to suffer unjustly. My humble take”. Thank you. Yomi Fabiyi http://www.eyereport.com.ng/baba-suwe-is-very-sick-yomi-fabiyi/#sthash.Dq5dBbxc.dpuf

The pope of the Catholic church, Pope Francis, has waded into an ethnic crisis in Ahiara, Imo State , Nigeria, whose bishop Peter Ebere Okpaleke, appointed by Benedict XVI in 2012, is unwanted by members and priests of the diocese. The reason for this crisis is that some members of the church rejected Okpaleke, an Igbo from Anambra State, because he is not an Igbo man from Mbaise. To resolving the issue, the pope on Wednesday, received a delegation from the Diocese of Ahiara, accompanied by Archbishop of Abuja and apostolic administrator of Ahiara, Cardinal John O. Onaiyekan, and many others. Pope Francis while speaking of the inadmissibility of the situation in Ahiara, said he was entrusting the Diocese of Ahiara to the motherly care of Mary. It was Benedict XVI who appointed Monsignor Okpaleke in 2012, only to meet a storm of opposition by the leaders and congregation; he was not even allowed to hold mass in the church. Since Okpaleke’s appointment in 2012, the priests and Catholic faithful from Mbaise had insisted they wanted a Bishop of Mbaise extraction. lalasticlala mynd44 http://www.eyereport.com.ng/pope-speaks-on-igbo-crisis-in-ahiara-church/#sthash.76Xi4Hno.dpuf

A popular church called “Living Stream International” in Accra, Ghana, has held a thanksgiving service for Chelsea for winning the 2016/2017 Premier League title. One of the pastors, who is a Chelsea fan, Pastor Azigiza, encouraged people to wear football jerseys of their favourite Clubs to the service. A cake was presented during the service and it was called “Chelsea cake” which was presented on a stage made to look like a football pitch. Azigiza who said he wants to use the power of football to tall about God said: “Chelsea, by the grace of God, came first.” In his sermon, Pastor Markwei talked about “the good, the bad and the ugly of rivalry” suggesting that football fans should engage in friendly rivalry. Azigiza thanked God for Arsenal’s victory “because it means that Arsene Wenger will stay” and they cannot win the league with him” he said. Fans of all teams that attended the service, said Azigiza only wanted to defuse rivalry between supporters of different clubs. cc: lalasticlala mynd44 http://www.eyereport.com.ng/church-in-ghana-holds-service-for-chelsea-fc/#sthash.Bqqo8hwD.dpuf

The word of the day [05|06|2017] is REDOUBT DEFINITION a secure place of retreat. work forming a complete enclosure of any form, used to defend a prominent position. a small, mostly temporary enclosed defensive work. EXAMPLES The Manager of the company, James Akpo, wants the house located at Emakpa road as redoubt for his family. The military personnel attacked the community base redoubt. This last redoubt proved the militants’ determination to continue fighting. HISTORY Redoubt became part of English language in the early 17th century. Redoubt got its origin from French “redoute” and Italian obsolete “ridotto“, and Latin “reductus” meaning “refugee“, which in turns originated from Latin “reducere” meaning “withdraw” or “to lead back” The b in redoubt was added in association with doubt. However, some etymologists cited that the b might have originated from a conflation with a transitive verb “redoubt” meaning “to regard with awe, dismay or dread”. …by Femi Fani-Kayode In a short contribution titled “Biafra Without Our Consent?” which appears to have gone viral on social media, a social commentator wrote as follows: “I think the current generation of ‘Biafrans’ are the most funny people I hve ever seen. How dare you sit in your home or offices and draw your Biafra map and include places like Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, etc as part of your empire? Did you consult them? Did you seek their opinions? You are forcing people to join a country whose commander in chief you have already anointed- Nnamdi Kanu; whose currency you have already decided- Biafra Pounds; whose official religion you have already adopted- Judaism; whose God you have already chosen- Chukwu Abiama? Do you not realize that you are doing to those people the same thing you accuse the British and Nigeria of doing to you? For carving my state into your ‘Biafra’ and renaming it without my permission and consultation, I have a moral duty to stand against you with everything I have. I am not standing against you because I do not want your freedom; I stand against you because I love mine too. I don’t stand against you because you don’t have a right to your country; I stand against you because I have the same right. I stand against you because your map is an insult to me and my freedom to choose were I belong. Be warned!” This commentator who I shall refer to as Miss X and those that think like her are being disingenious and unduly hostile to Nnamdi Kanu and the concept and spirit of Biafra. She has made a point that appears to be valid but that point is based on a false premise. That premise is that the southern minorities would be compelled or obliged to be part of Biafra without their consent. This is false. It is not true. The truth is that each of the bordering ethnic nationalities, and even the Igbo themselves, must and will have their own referendum before going anywhere. It is entirely up to them what they do and where they go. They cannot and will not be forced to go with Biafra if they choose not to do so. And neither can they be forced to remain in Nigeria if they choose to leave. Everything that is done must and will be based on the free and fair expression of the will of the people. That is the basic point that needs to be grasped and clearly understood. Miss X’s fear is therefore baseless. Yet we cannot leave it there. We must consider the wider issues that her concerns have raised. We must learn to be clear-headed and strategic in our thinking and actions. We must know what we wish to achieve and we must learn from history. The cost of petty bickering, division, undue rivalry, pettiness and age-old suspicions amongst the southern ethnic minorities and southerners generally is extreemly high. It has cost us virtually everything and it has stripped us naked and bare before our enemies and adversaries. Someone is fighting for the freedom of his people and you lend your voice to rubbishing that person and that cause? That cannot be right and neither is it reasonable or fair. The sooner that we southerners get it into our skulls that there must be unity between us the better. Without that unity we are nothing and we shall continue to fail and falter. Yours truly has attacked and joined issues with the Igbo in a series of literary debates and articles in the past perhaps more than anyone else but now I know better. Now I know that historical and intellectual debate is one thing and political expediency and pragmatism is another. Now I know that we are fighting a collective cause and that we have a collective adversary and oppressor who seeks to destroy and devour us all. Now I know that when my Igbo or southern neighbour’s house is burning, even if we are barely on speaking terms, it is in my own interest to help him to put it out before that fire spreads to mine. Now I know that the “handshake across the Niger” that the late and great Ikemba, Colonel Emeka Odimegwu-Ojukwu, the former Head of State of Biafra, once spoke about is the only way forward. Now I know that whether we like to admit it or not Igbo and Yoruba co-operation, understanding and unity is a fundamental pre-requisite to the freedom and emancipation of the entire south. Now I know that the more I attack my Igbo brothers the more I weaken myself, my Yoruba people and the south generally from the incessant and relentless attacks, humiliation and indignities that we collectively receive from the ruling core Muslim Hausa-Fulani north. Now I know that what fuels and feeds northern hegemony and subjugation more than anything else are the petty rivalries and divisions between the southern ethnic nationalities. And it has made us utterly powerless and hopelessly weak. The end-result is that we have all been turned into pliant and cowardly slaves. This has been the case since 1960 and it will continue into eternity if we don’t sit up, grow up and set aside our many mutual suspicions and differences. The Biafrans are simply asking for their own country and for an affirmative referendum to give it legitimacy. No-one can be made to join Biafra against his or her will or by force. It appears to me that this is obvious. In any case did Miss X or her forefathers give their consent to becoming a Nigerian in 1914 when the amalglamation took place? Where is her sense of outrage about that? Did she warn the British or the north about that and did she promise to attempt to fight them because of it? Were we not all just herded into Nigeria like cattle at the time? Were those of us from the south not just lumped together with a north that the British described as our “poor husband” whilst we were described as their “rich wife?” Have we not been raped, sodomised, cheated, battered and butchered by that poor husband ever since? Have we not been turned into second class citizens and slaves in our own country? Has Miss X protested about that and has she expressed her outrage and “warned” our collective oppressors as well? Does she not feel a sense of revulsion and outrage about that? Or is her outrage and warning reserved only for her fellow southerners? The people of Biafra are fighting for the self-determination of their own Igbo people and anyone or any other group that wishes to join them. Is that a crime? Would you seek to deny them that right and instead join sides with their oppressors and keep them in Nigeria by the usage of state-sponsored terror, guile, deceit and tyranny? I do not accept the notion that the Biafrans seek to compel anyone or any group of people to leave Nigeria with them if they do not wish to do so. That would be unacceptable and it is not their intention. Unlike Nigeria, being part of or joining Biafra is not by compulsion but rather a matter of choice. And that choice can only be made in a free and fair referendum. If you do not wish to be part of Biafra and leave Nigeria then dont join them and instead stay in Lugard’s “happy” contraption. That is your right and your prerogative. Yet the truth is that with or without you the Biafrans will achieve their objectives and realise their dreams and aspirations as long as it is God’s will and the desire of the Igbo people. Whatever you and your people choose to do, either to go with Biafra or stay in Nigeria, do not allow yourself to be used by the retrogressive core north, the primitive forces of oppression and the asinine peddlars of lies, ignorance and falsehood to destroy someone else’s yearning for freedom from oppression and aspiration for liberty. I say this because such an aspiration, yearning and quest is not only noble and pure but also deeply courageous. It is an aspiration that we should mirror and admire and not attempt to rubbish or belittle. This is all the more so because it has been paid for by the blood and suffering of many that have been killed over the last 50 years for daring to voice it, including many young people and many children. If Miss X’s Efik ethnic group had suffered just 10 per cent of what the Igbo have been subjected to since 1966 they would have agitated to leave Nigeria long ago or perhaps been driven into extinction by now. That is the bitter truth. Finally let me say this: whether anyone likes it or not Nnamdi Kanu symbolises the Biafran struggle today. He has earned it by the suffering he has endured, by the immense courage that he has displayed and by the gargantuan risks that he has taken. He has energised his people and inspired and brought hope to millions of Igbo youth all over the world. He has given them back their pride and self-respect which is something that no other leader has managed to do since the end of the civil war. This is a beautiful thing and I wonder why anyone that lays claim to being enlightened or educated would attempt to besmirch or denigrate him? Why try and demean him or discredit and belittle the views that he and his followers hold so dear? Whether anyone likes it or not the truth is that Nnamdi Kanu speaks for millions. And many other ethnic nationalist groups in the south and Middle Belt have precisely the same aspirations and dreams of emancipation and freedom that he espouses, enunciates, epitomises and holds so dear. The challenge that they are faced with is that, unlike the Igbo, they have yet to produce a leader like Nnamdi Kanu that can unite and rally them together under one banner and lead them to the promised land. http://www.eyereport.com.ng/nnamdi-kanu-biafra-and-the-false-premise/#sthash.04coENWw.dpuf |
A twin suicide bombing at Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp killed more than four people and wounded more than 20 others in Cameroon on Friday. The double bombing occurred in the town of Kolofata at about 6 a.m. local time (1 a.m. ET). A government official said the death toll is six and more than 30 people were wounded, 10 in critical condition. But four people and the bomber were confirmed dead by the police. speech by Mark Zuckerberg Harvard Class of 2017 Graduation ceremony. 25th May, 2017. President Faust, Board of Overseers, faculty, alumni, friends, proud parents, members of the ad board, and graduates of the greatest university in the world, I’m honored to be with you today because, let’s face it, you accomplished something I never could. If I get through this speech, it’ll be the first time I actually finish something at Harvard. Class of 2017, congratulations! I’m an unlikely speaker, not just because I dropped out, but because we’re technically in the same generation. We walked this yard less than a decade apart, studied the same ideas and slept through the same Ec10 lectures. We may have taken different paths to get here, especially if you came all the way from the Quad, but today I want to share what I’ve learned about our generation and the world we’re building together. But first, the last couple of days have brought back a lot of good memories. How many of you remember exactly what you were doing when you got that email telling you that you got into Harvard? I was playing Civilization and I ran downstairs, got my dad, and for some reason, his reaction was to video me opening the email. That could have been a really sad video. I swear getting into Harvard is still the thing my parents are most proud of me for. What about your first lecture at Harvard? Mine was Computer Science 121 with the incredible Harry Lewis. I was late so I threw on a t-shirt and didn’t realize until afterwards it was inside out and backwards with my tag sticking out the front. I couldn’t figure out why no one would talk to me — except one guy, KX Jin, he just went with it. We ended up doing our problem sets together, and now he runs a big part of Facebook. And that, Class of 2017, is why you should be nice to people. But my best memory from Harvard was meeting Priscilla. I had just launched this prank website Facemash, and the ad board wanted to “see me”. Everyone thought I was going to get kicked out. My parents came to help me pack. My friends threw me a going away party. As luck would have it, Priscilla was at that party with her friend. We met in line for the bathroom in the Pfoho Belltower, and in what must be one of the all time romantic lines, I said: “I’m going to get kicked out in three days, so we need to go on a date quickly.” Actually, any of you graduating can use that line. I didn’t end up getting kicked out — I did that to myself. Priscilla and I started dating. And, you know, that movie made it seem like Facemash was so important to creating Facebook. It wasn’t. But without Facemash I wouldn’t have met Priscilla, and she’s the most important person in my life, so you could say it was the most important thing I built in my time here. We’ve all started lifelong friendships here, and some of us even families. That’s why I’m so grateful to this place. Thanks, Harvard. Today I want to talk about purpose. But I’m not here to give you the standard commencement about finding your purpose. We’re millennials. We’ll try to do that instinctively. Instead, I’m here to tell you finding your purpose isn’t enough. The challenge for our generation is creating a world where everyone has a sense of purpose. One of my favorite stories is when John F Kennedy visited the NASA space center, he saw a janitor carrying a broom and he walked over and asked what he was doing. The janitor responded: “Mr. President, I’m helping put a man on the moon”. Purpose is that sense that we are part of something bigger than ourselves, that we are needed, that we have something better ahead to work for. Purpose is what creates true happiness. You’re graduating at a time when this is especially important. When our parents graduated, purpose reliably came from your job, your church, your community. But today, technology and automation are eliminating many jobs. Membership in communities is declining. Many people feel disconnected and depressed, and are trying to fill a void. As I’ve traveled around, I’ve sat with children in juvenile detention and opioid addicts, who told me their lives could have turned out differently if they just had something to do, an after school program or somewhere to go. I’ve met factory workers who know their old jobs aren’t coming back and are trying to find their place. To keep our society moving forward, we have a generational challenge — to not only create new jobs, but create a renewed sense of purpose. I remember the night I launched Facebook from my little dorm in Kirkland House. I went to Noch’s with my friend KX. I remember telling him I was excited to connect the Harvard community, but one day someone would connect the whole world. The thing is, it never even occurred to me that someone might be us. We were just college kids. We didn’t know anything about that. There were all these big technology companies with resources. I just assumed one of them would do it. But this idea was so clear to us — that all people want to connect. So we just kept moving forward, day by day. I know a lot of you will have your own stories just like this. A change in the world that seems so clear you’re sure someone else will do it. But they won’t. You will. But it’s not enough to have purpose yourself. You have to create a sense of purpose for others. I found that out the hard way. You see, my hope was never to build a company, but to make an impact. And as all these people started joining us, I just assumed that’s what they cared about too, so I never explained what I hoped we’d build. A couple years in, some big companies wanted to buy us. I didn’t want to sell. I wanted to see if we could connect more people. We were building the first News Feed, and I thought if we could just launch this, it could change how we learn about the world. Nearly everyone else wanted to sell. Without a sense of higher purpose, this was the startup dream come true. It tore our company apart. After one tense argument, an advisor told me if I didn’t agree to sell, I would regret the decision for the rest of my life. Relationships were so frayed that within a year or so every single person on the management team was gone. That was my hardest time leading Facebook. I believed in what we were doing, but I felt alone. And worse, it was my fault. I wondered if I was just wrong, an imposter, a 22 year-old kid who had no idea how the world worked. Now, years later, I understand that *is* how things work with no sense of higher purpose. It’s up to us to create it so we can all keep moving forward together. Today I want to talk about three ways to create a world where everyone has a sense of purpose: by taking on big meaningful projects together, by redefining equality so everyone has the freedom to pursue purpose, and by building community across the world. First, let’s take on big meaningful projects. Our generation will have to deal with tens of millions of jobs replaced by automation like self-driving cars and trucks. But we have the potential to do so much more together. Every generation has its defining works. More than 300,000 people worked to put a man on the moon – including that janitor. Millions of volunteers immunized children around the world against polio. Millions of more people built the Hoover dam and other great projects. These projects didn’t just provide purpose for the people doing those jobs, they gave our whole country a sense of pride that we could do great things. Now it’s our turn to do great things. I know, you’re probably thinking: I don’t know how to build a dam, or get a million people involved in anything. But let me tell you a secret: no one does when they begin. Ideas don’t come out fully formed. They only become clear as you work on them. You just have to get started. If I had to understand everything about connecting people before I began, I never would have started Facebook. Movies and pop culture get this all wrong. The idea of a single eureka moment is a dangerous lie. It makes us feel inadequate since we haven’t had ours. It prevents people with seeds of good ideas from getting started. Oh, you know what else movies get wrong about innovation? No one writes math formulas on glass. That’s not a thing. see more at http://www.eyereport.com.ng/inspirational-speech-by-mark-zuckerberg-full-text/#sthash.9KxPXrWG.dpuf |

A luxury Hermes handbag was auctioned for $380,000 in Hong Kong on Wednesday, Christie’s spokeswoman, Gigi Ho said. The handbag which was produced in 2014, has 18 karat gold buckles and strap loops encrusted with 205 diamonds. It fetched 2.94 million Hong Kong dollars ($380,000), which Christie’s says is a record for any handbag sold at auction. The price has surpassed the record set a year ago when Christie’s auctioned a similar Birkin bag for $300,000. The company says the bag is exceptionally rare, with only one or two believed to be made each year because of a time-consuming process to dye the crocodile skin. http://www.eyereport.com.ng/handbag-beats-record-sold-for-380000/#sthash.fgeByXjk.dpuf

A woman hid her dead mother in a freezer for ten years so she could continue to claim her pension equivalent to £17,000 a month. The mother’s corpse was found after detectives commenced investigation on the alleged 55-year-old security fraudster. While she lives in a detached house in picturesque village of Horsarrieu, in South West France, her mother’s remains were kept at the end of the garden. ‘They were hidden in a freezer, and there had been no report of the mother’s death,’ said a prosecuting source in nearby Mont-de-Marsan, capital of the Landes department. ‘The freezer was not connected to the electricity supply going into the house. It was just a hiding place,’ the source added. The suspect when interviewed by gendarmes, said her mother had died seven years ago. But investigators believed that the time of her death was likely to be 10 years ago. The Mirror reports that all the mother’s benefits arrangements, including drawing an old age pension, continued as normal throughout that time. An autopsy was due to be held on Wednesday to try to establish whether the mother had died of natural causes, or whether foul play was involved. At the time of death, the pair were living some 200 miles away, close to Toulouse, which means that the woman would have transported the corpse in secret when they moved to Horsarrieu in July 2016. http://www.eyereport.com.ng/woman-hid-dead-mother-in-freezer-for-years/#sthash.kSQMDxH4.dpuf |
A man met his end after taking part in a vodka drinking competition organized by a local supermarket called Saveliy in Russia. The competition took place in Volgodonsk in south-western Russia’s Rostov Oblast region. The contest which was titled ‘Who Can Drink More Vodka’ had five participants rushed to medical centre, and one dying from consuming too much alcohol. However, the Police have started a criminal case against the supermarket for causing death by negligence as well as violating an advertising law which prohibits any action that stimulates the consumption of alcoholic beverages. 40 men took part in the vodka drinking competition which saw them drink vodka put in buckets. Salami and bread were offered by the shop to line the stomachs of the men, with the winner promised 10 bottles of vodka as a prize. Just minute after the competition, Doctors arrived and diagnosed six participants with severe intoxication after they started feeling unwell. But a man died later. “He managed to drink about three litres of vodka, which most likely wouldn’t have ended in death if it was a normal person.” Doctor Mikhail Kravchenko said. There are rumours that the organisers of the event will escape punishment because participants joined in on a voluntary basis. Some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently mounting pressure on ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to shelve his alleged ambition to contest the 2019 presidential election. The party is likely to give its presidential ticket to the North even if Sen. Ahmed Makarfi or Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff wins the PDP leadership contest at the Supreme Court. Some of the Party members said Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Senate Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio, and some governors are being considered for Vice-President slot. The battle in the party apart from the leadership case at the Supreme Court, is that when many party members want Jonathan to run for the presidency, others strongly believed that it will be difficult to sell his candidature to the majority of Nigerian voters. A PDP source disclosed that the party wants to retain its presidential ticket to the north since PDP is still strong in South-South and in the South-East. “Although we are awaiting the decision of the Supreme Court on the leadership of our party, we have gone far with our homework. “A realistic option we have faced is the fact that to win in 2019, we have to retain our presidential ticket in the North. The PDP is still solid in the South-East and in the South-South. “We have however come to appreciate that conceding the ticket to ex-President Jonathan might not work considering ethnic colouration which beclouded the last presidential election. “The allegations raised against some key actors in Jonathan’s government, including ex-First Lady have made the choice of the ex-President a hard sell,” the source said. The source added: “PDP leaders have subtly passed the message to Jonathan. “We are however leaving the ticket open to the North. We anticipate that some defectors from APC might add more strength to our search for a candidate that can beat to the game. “We want to try as much as possible to provide alternatives to APC. Of recent, ex-Governor Sule Lamido is the only leader who has come out with his presidential aspiration. “Even when an attempt was made to enable the Forum of former Ministers to endorse Lamido, it was rejected. The source listed the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, the Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Akpabio, and some governors (whose names were not revealed) as some of those being considered for the VP slot. http://www.eyereport.com.ng/pressure-on-jonathan-not-to-contest-2019-election/#sthash.yyJQyLGO.dpuf

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo who left Nigeria on saturday, met US President Donald Trump and the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, in Taormina, Italy, where he went for G7 meeting. The G7 is composed of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the U.S. Other African leaders that joined the G7 meeting are Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, Beji Essebsi of Tunisia, Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger and Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn of Ethiopia. UN Secretary-General António Guterres, made it known in an address at the Summit that world leaders had a role to play in helping Africa to adapt as it heads to a new wave of industrialization, by investing in education, technology etc. “Failing to do so might have dramatic consequences on the well-being of the people of Africa; increase fragility, causing massive displacement and risking to boost unemployment, especially for young people,” Guterres said. He noted that majority of African countries have improved their competitiveness and business environments. “Our shared challenge is to build on these gains and to change the narrative about Africa – from crisis-based narrative to an opportunities-based narrative. “We know that the full and true story of Africa is that of a continent with enormous potential for success. “Africa has the fastest growing youth population in the world, which must be supported with education and training in tomorrow’s jobs,’’ he said. He said high rate of youth unemployment is not just a tragedy for youths but can also frustrate development. “That, in turn, can become a threat to global peace and security,” Guterres cautioned in his statements. “Gender inequality is costing sub-Saharan Africa 95 billion dollars a year, which is at six per cent of the region’s gross domestic product – a needless loss of inclusive human development and economic growth,” the UN chief said. The secretary said more than just the transfer of technology is what the continent needs to maximize the power of innovation for the people of Africa. http://www.eyereport.com.ng/osinbajo-meets-trump-in-italy/#sthash.uA4HQht3.dpuf

The impeachment was signed by 22 members out of the 29 House members of the state legislative assembly. A High Court judge in Jos, Justice Rifkatu, has warned an accused person, Tasiu Mohammed, 21, against threatening witnesses testifying against him in court. The Judge gave the warning when Mohammed was caught making gestures which means he would slash the throats of the witnesses. The police, officials of the court and witnesses, who understood the threats, drew the attention of the judge. “You are only lucky that the prosecuting counsel did not pray the court to convict you (accused) for contempt, otherwise I would have descended on you. “I will only warn you to desist from threatening witnesses in the court. If you repeat it, I will start by sentencing you to 14 strokes of the cane,” the judge said. Mohammed with two others named Saidu Mohammed, 19, and Umar Shehu 23, were charged with criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, robbery and possession of firearms. Mr. O.S. Osho said a woman who stays in the same quarters, reported the matter to the community head after she heard screams coming from the building, and she rushed to check The prosecutor said: “The accused persons also told the police that they ran out of the building on sighting the woman, but that she went in and saw blood everywhere. “The curious woman checked further and saw the corpse of the unknown man dumped in a well in the building”. Osho made it known to the court that the woman recognised the accused persons, while they were running from the scene. The prosecutor said “the identity of the deceased was still unknown ” as no form of identification was found on him. During the arraignment, however, the prosecutor alleged that Tasiu Mohammed, the first accused, had committed the same crime in 2014, when he was 18 years old. Osho further added that Mohammed escaped from a juvenile home after he was convicted for murder as a juvenile. He said Mohammed relocated to Abuja but returned to Jos and committed the same crime.
