Oga pls keep quite. I advised based on experience. Forget whats on paper, many cars imported to our country are not designed for this hot climate hence the reasons for this modifications to suite our weather. The first camry i used had this same issue, i got the experience when we changed to double cell as the single cell could not handle the existing temp. I wasnt a fan of technicians removing thermostats, but over time it seems the best solutions to some overheating challenges.
sorry sir

You may have to increase your radiator to double cell or check the fan speed!
Bad advice for the bolded ,cos the radiator size that is currently there is a manufacturer spec design , altering that size will open door for more problem .

My Ford focus st170 temperature gauge never cross quarter level when driving to anywhere even on sunny dayz but immediately I switched my AC the temperature gauge overshoots and indicates overheating. My AC technician told me to flush the cars radiator which I did but still there's no any change. Driving a car without AC can be a pain in the neck. Engineers in d house let's hear your opinions.
It implies that your Cooling system ( not your ac ) has hidden issue that need to be fished out . Jsut go for cooling system Diagnostics test to save u the stress of trial by error .

ND again water is easier to get than coolant ND both serves the same purpose
Coolant and water are not in the same league and so the value u will get from either is different

Bad or Failing Alternator

I just finish working on a customer's car, the customer came with the complaint of rough idling and scanned the car to discover Engine Misfire and Camshaft Position Sensor and I recommended the plugs to be changed and the sensor too.

After the whole repair the car refuse to crank, at first I thought this is a drained battery symptom.
I jump start the car and it was running fine only to act out of curiosity if the battery is the problem or the alternator.
So I removed the negative terminal and the car went off, I jump start and repeat the same procedure few times to be sure of the bad alternator.
So in conclusion the alternator was bad and I advised the customer to get a new one.

So I will give few signs to indicate your alternator is going bad

Symptoms of a Failing Alternator

The indicator light on the dashboard.. Mostly battery sign or Alt sign or Gen sign

Headlights are dim or flickering.

Other electrical failures. ...

Strange noises. ...

Car stalls or has difficulty starting. ...

Battery dies

So when you start experiencing any or all of this symptoms take it to your nearest qualified Auto Technician..

B-Automobile Nigeria Limited
Method of removing the battery terminal to test the alternator is very crude and not a standard method and accurate method of testing alternator even some cars model will even go off with terminal removed and doesn't imply that alternator is faulty moreso u can destroy sensitive modules and accessories especially if u are working with late model cars laced with communication network . There are many recommended method and more accurate way of testing alternator without removing battery terminal,I will advise to check them up online .

Car TalkRe: Inability Of The Two Fans To Work At Same Time by autologic:
chuckynath:
.

Thank you for your valid and informed points. However,in course of trying to have the engine achieve optimum temperature, wudnt that lead to over heating thereby affecting the engine, given that the two fans weren't working the same time and the temperate region we reside in?
Yea the life span of the fan obviously will be shortened, but wdnt that be better than having the engine guage rising above normal?
Thirdly, inability of the engine to attain optimum temperature and the engine exceeding optimum temperature, which of the two posses a higher risk to the engine?
Your informed inputs will always be appreciated
I think this kind of discussion has been overstretched on nairaland and u need to search for appropriate thread to get your self informed but I will still give you some eye opener .
The fan kick- on strategy described above is the full proof design of the manufacturer of your car where millions of dollars has been expended in R& D and this same model used regardless of location and even for areas like Arizona ,Texas and Dubai that even hotter than Nigerian in term of climatic condition, and I am sure you don't want to say you know more than the maker of the car .
Also ,coupled with my own theoretical and practical knowledge and experience of donkey year of auto engineering practice, having seen and attended to thousand of case studies and still counting , with access to latest training abroad ,I am yet to see any manufacturer ,or any scientific study that will ever encourage maintaining your engine temp low relatively to optimum middle mark or above cos it will destroy your engine and will also result to environmental emissions hazard(naija peeps don't even care about that grin).,
unfortunately nigeria mecho are the only people perpetrating this evil practice and the reason they are still in business of destroying cars is because you people keep patronising them which is why naija engine dont last and we are enriching the part sellers.
Below picture depict a case study of a Nissan 2016 that was towed to our shop with complaint of inability to start (severely abused from previous tech )untill we discovered that engine is already choked with sludge which eventually ruin the engine (I will still do a detail troubleshooting analysis of case study of this particular vehicle in subsequent thread ) .Just another case of typical naija lackadaisical to their vehicle maintanance by running the fan direct .

Car TalkRe: Inability Of The Two Fans To Work At Same Time by autologic: 7:17am On May 26, 2020
chuckynath:
My brother just bought a tokunbo Acura MDX 2008,3.7l engine capacity from Canada. Expectedly it came with two fans. One for the engine/radiator and the other for the AC. I noticed that when the AC is not on,the engine fan will pick as soon as the engine gets warm, but when you turn on the AC,the AC fan comes on while the engine fan goes idle. The AC fan is controlled by the thermostat as such it comes on and off. But the engine fan rarely works same time with the AC fan which most times results in the rising of the temperature guage above the middle line. A rewire was contacted who installed a relay that now enables the engine fan to work whenever the engine is turned on, while the AC is still working normally as installed from the factory. Note that the temperature has remained normal since then. Experts in the house please I want to know if we have done the right thing.
That rewire has jst ran your engine fan direct which will eventually shorten the lifespan of your fan and even that of your engine cos your engine temp will never achieve optimum temperature .
The correct strategy for your 2 fan operation is automatically dictated by the engine computer (ecu ) and the two fan are supposed to turn on together at same time and and run together and the period that the two fan should turn on are
1. When your engine temperature get to high threshold ie .97 degree
2. When ac are turned on
And anything outside these conditions above ,the fans should be turned off.

Follow car manufacturer direction strictly as regard the oil that work best for their Engine for some peculiarities in the engine eg vvt etc if you don't want issue ,
Disregard any third party oil sale pitch
Car TalkRe: A Cry For Help by autologic: 1:51pm On May 25, 2020
If you initially have a source of leakage and u refuse to attend to the issue , there is high possibility of getting your Headgasket blown later on .it even possible to now have the two issues.
Go for cooling system Diagnostics check for precise confirmation

Anything that is not recommended by the manufacturer that is connected externally as extra load to your car wiring system that doesn't cut fuse has potential to set up a fire on a car so do the needful before it is too late .

Do you have any experience. Will you advice. I really don't have much to buy a new one. I bought a tokunbo compressor few months ago and the compressor puts too much load on my engine (d car starts vibrating, reduced acceleration to the point where it starts overheating). Told d AC guy to change it and the same problem.

Cerato 2008
It is time to change your ac guy too .
Car TalkRe: My Bad Experience With Autologic by autologic:
I actually see no point in dragging this issue more than necessary as I actually confirmed that the op visited my workshop on December 13th 2019 for complaint of high fuel mileage .
on same day we carried out some series diagnotics test along the physical inspection we conducted and scan data codes that was retrieved and discovered as usual typical naija problem :extremely low engine temp due to fan ran direct , lean air fuel misture , cam/Ckp correl etc.
I indeed admitted the error made that we actually removed the fuel but failed to confirm that it was well kitted in before the op left in hurry before we can even finish all the agreed fix .
Hence ,I hereby take responsibility and tender my unreserved apology for any mishaps the op might have suffered for this error of judgment on own paths .
And I would have appreciated more if op had shot us instant feedback concerning this ordeal and we would have provided all the necessary support instead of haunting with this complaint of more than 6 months cos I strongly believe in using instant & constant feedback in building our operational customer- service- improvement plan .Thanks all
Car TalkRe: My Bad Experience With Autologic by autologic: 9:49am On May 06, 2020
I will respond appropriately after getting all the record of facts and figure of what actually transpire cos our normal process don't allow a customer with severely abused car to take their car In a jiffy while work is ongoing without signing an undertaking . If you should bring an abused cars that has passed Tru several hands , your car should be ready to spend some times with us for proper assessment and quality check before releasing you car to u to avoid a ugly situation like cos we are not magician and we are more concerned with your safety than anything .i will rather not take your car if u are the impatient type of customer .
Car TalkRe: 2012 Hyundai Accent, What Could Have Possibly Gone Wrong? by autologic:
Yes it is also possible ,that it actually the soaking injector that is causing the extremely zero compression on cylinder 1 due to cylinder bore wash .
Include injector balance test as part of further test that u will still do.
Pls let grow beyond mere code scanning ,it aids better understanding
Car TalkRe: 2012 Hyundai Accent, What Could Have Possibly Gone Wrong? by autologic:
You have extreme case of dead hole on cylinder one which was the reason for the cylnder soaking fuel as no compression power on that cylinder to ignite air fuel mixture .
Do a further test (vacuum intake test , compression wet test, leakdown test ) to eliminate other variable eg to confirm if u are dealing with valve leak, cylinder bore wash or piston rings issue .
I don't think this is head gasket issue because this a classical single cylinder dead misfire. For head gasket issue ,the low compression will hold more than 1 cylinder.
Love to see that we are stepping up our diagnostics game .Nice one cool
Car TalkRe: REMOTE FAULT ASSESSMENT AND DIAGNOSIS GUIDE By AutoMoTech by autologic:
AutoMoTech:
1. Kindly confirm your location
2. Is that the only code stored?
3. How long does it take for the code to come back?
4. Before the code comes back, does the engine run smooth without any problems?

From my little research the problem seems t be intermittent. Meaning it doesn't occur Everytime.
This might be an electrical fault on the CKP circuit. And since you say you have changed the sensor twice (assuming the sensors you got were good ones), we can then rule out bad sensor fault .
I will recommend you check the wiring of the CKP from the sensor to the PCM. If the wiring is good, then you can proceed to checking the PCM.
However being an intermittent fault, my money us on a wire problem. Most likely making partial contact at certain times and then causing the misfire and hard starting.
Scope Diagnosis to the rescue .
Scope Diagnosis will bring to light all the flaws that is supposedly intermittent
Nothing beat the adage that states that a picture is worth a thousand words.

Car TalkRe: Can Overheating Cause Break Failure? by autologic:
Kilbane:
The mechanic is right. I've been battling brakes issues. It causes the affected wheel to heat up. The engine over heats becomes it is trying to overcome normal road friction while also battling the opposition from the brakes.

It matters little now since the mechanic may have been long fired.
that amount of heat from the brake that will overheat the cooling system will surely melt the tyre first .Pls check somewhere else for the cause of the overheating ,it is a mere coincidence ,the way average naija maintain their car is even prone to overheating anything they are stuck inside traffic. So overheating that is a daily occurrence will surely coincide with other issues na.

Pls my people i need ur help, I Drive Toyota Corolla 2003 and the problem is... Anytime i start my car and switch on the A/C, on slow movement( like taking off, go slow or bad spot) i will hear a very discouraging cranky sound when throttling the vehicle to gain speed. Does not happen when i am on a road with average speed, only when i am very slow. But if the A/C is off, it moves well.
Pls what cud be the problem and possible solutionhuhhuh
That sound is directly from the engine and that is is technically referred to as "pinging "Detonation or knocking" .The pinging noise emanates from uneven explosion of airfuel charge in the combustion chamber late or early can be due to lack of proper maintaince and tune up ,carbon build up on the Piston thereby altering the compression ratio , too early or late ignition or valve timing, sludge build up etc .
Get a sensible tech to check this out for u .
