Realdeals: You spoke my mind, whenever people make comparison of PHCN privatization with the telecom sector i just laugh grin
I have shouted this so many times that you can't compare PHCN privatization with the telecom sector but people would not listen. Is the privatization a good thing? In theory yes but in practice, we will have to wait and see.
What i believe will happen in the nearest future is people who live in highbrow areas will get light 20-24 hrs.

kalokalo: You cannot change distribution companies because they are natural monopolies. "If they mess up" as you say, they lose money since they do not get paid for power not supplied. Estimated bills are used under the present government run, unaccountable scheme. I can be sure private gencos will want to quickly roll out prepaid meters for efficient billing.
Actually, if i bought one of the distribution companies, selling to companies would be my first option. E.g as at now, Nigeria does not generate the required electricity for the whole country so if i bought the Eko distribution company, i'd make sure V.I, Ikoyi and Lagos Island have light 24/7 before i supply places like Badore and Epe.

specco: Lol. Where are all those haters and ethnic bigots, what do you say to this latest revelation. You all should bury your heads in shame because the Prince of the north has even more purpose built cars in his fleet and none of you could even muster a whisper. Even a blind man could attest that Madam Oduah's ordeal does not stem from the 2 cars but a calculated conspiracy to bring her down and pave the way for a looting spree as in the past in that sector. They started with the Associated airline crash and with the decibel of noise made about the crash, a discerning mind could easily know that some anti-Oduah elements have been waiting in the wings to bare their fangs. Shout yourselves hoarse to your fill, Oga Jona is no fool.
Nobody is complaining about Stella Oduah using armoured cars, the complains are about the cost and the fact that the cars were not budgeted for.
That some individuals bought the distribution companies in various zones does not mean other investors cannot invest in the power sector. That is the main feature of privatization. Granted that so many Nigerians are not innovative, it is practically possible for individuals to build their own power plants, provided they have the capital to do so. This is the point of departure between Monopoly and market driven economy (Privatization).
Privatization and free market economy is not the same thing. In the current Nigerian structure, you can either build an off grid or on grid power plant. To build an on grid power plant TODAY, if you don't have an agreement with a distribution company, you will not get the license you need to build a power plant.

The Nigerian power market has been privatized but it is not a free market economy.
Business › Re: PHCN: Consumers To Pay More As New Owners Move To Recover Funds by AZeD1(m): 5:29pm On Oct 29, 2013
The main issue is constant power supply. Privatization always comes with hike in prices in the short-run. However, competition will certainly bring down the prices in the long-run, a case study of what happened in the Telecom industry at the post-privatization era. My only annoyance is total lack of power supply in Satellite Town, Lagos. Ever since I moved to this area 4yrs ago, there has been perennial power problem till date. Even when others are celebrating 20hrs/24hrs power supply in some quarters, Satellite town can not boast of 1hr power supply in a day. Worstill, you have to stay in darkness from Monday to Sunday. It is so pathetic here in Satellite Town. And it appears there is no end in sight to this malady.
How will the competition work? When Ikeja distribution company increases tariff, you would move your house to the Eko distribution company jurisdiction or you want build your own distribution cable from the Ibadan zone?

pc guru: Simple I just searched for jobs in Mauritius and found one called "Linkeo" i search the Job requirements, i was skeptical at first because i had this notion that international companies don't employ people especially "Nigerians" like nations, but i just applied by using my resume and it also submits my LinkedIn profile too which has a lot of information of my previous projects and works. I even applied to multiple companies, a company first replied asking when i could come for interview but i didn't respond on time because i had exams, then while playing game i got a phone call from a "Clifford guy (My now Project Manager), he asked for "Remi" but spoke french but i couldn't understand then he switched to english and asked about PHP,OOP,Zend and other advanced topic on PHP Development (SoC,MVC) and others and i answered all. then he said someone will get back to me, then a lady "Myline(my now HR Lady) told me to come to the office for a test which was totally in french but i translated it in Google Translate and finished the test it was to build an application using an already existing class, it was a 1hr 30 mins test but in that short time i created lot of classes using several design patterns since that's i code anyway and finished the test, 2 weeks later they said i aced it not because i finished the test but because of the following "PHPDOC(I always comment because i forget easily and put comment on return types and purpose of the function), used alot of design pattern e.g Singelton patterb for the Database because resource are expensive in PHP so i always use static for such, so they said it was good for them because they have an in-house framework and my coding style was perfect for what they were looking for, so i did a 2 months internship and after then they decided to recruit me, which is where i work currently pending my papers are complete. The HR lady told me that the reason Clifford called me was because my LinkedIn Profile stood out, and they were reading all my comments on groups that i made such as Zend Group,WordPress,PHP groups, i go there to answer people's problem most times, even after that i had lots of offers from other companies but i decided to stick around because they intended to switch to Zend Framework 2 which was something i wanted in my CV as working experience and because i had little time as my student visa was about to expire. LinkedIn is Highly important even Nigerian companies mail me about jobs cuz they say they went through my profile. sorry if i went offpoint just explaining the full thing so you can get a cue from that
Thats cool. What is Mauritius like?

xtianh: my confusion cmes in at stage 5 down could u pls explain in mre details. Thanks fr ur effort
A boolean value can either be true or false. That is also the same in the login process i.e its either the login details supplied by the user matches a previously stored value or they don't. So in stage 5, your login in function should take the user supplied variable (username/email and password) and compare with the values present in the database. Only one value in the database should return true.

PS: its horrible writing shorthand in a public forum, its ever more horrible when the so called offender is a programmer. If you do that in forums like stackoverflow, you would not get a reply.

JaaizTech: I dey laugh o!. I may be wrong o!, but this appears like a white elephant project whose purpose is to be used mainly as a siphoning pipe to embezzle money.

My question are as follows:

Is it a company that is building the ship manufacturing facility or the Nigerian Government?

Does the Nigerian Government have the technical know how to build ships and have they been building ships before?

How much is the projected return-on-investment for this kind of project?

Wouldn't it be wiser to invest such money into building a new refinery that can produce petroleum products whose demand is currently insatiable.

I just weep for my people...
Guy you read my mind. All i want to know is who will be building the ships!!!

The situation is dicey. Qatar airways are a business entity while the ministry is a government entity. The should find a middle ground.

In my Opinion, let them take either Kano or Abuja then they will get their request if they service PH or Enugu.

God bless you for the bold part. All those saying this is a good move are ignorant. The Chinese use their currency as a political tool and would manipulate it to their advantage. If the FG wants to diversify they should be buying Gold.

Oh and those saying the US is falling and China is the new world power should please give that statement a rest. Half of China's trade is the with the US, if the US fails, China fails.

ochukoccna: Nigeria is a crazy place embarassed embarassed embarassed
We want things to be better but many cling on to tribal cleavages to defend their 'brother/sister/tribesman' even when the criticism is justified
Every thread is now reduced into an APC vs PDP, Ijaw and Ibo vs Hausa/Yoruba and others issue
Divide and rule was invented by the British colonialists and has been perfected by the Ebele administration to cover its glaring incompetence
Yet sadly, bad governance knows no tribe and many of this ethnic warriors HAVE never met and WILL never meet this their kinsmen

That been said,if you have ever passed through MMIA you will know it is a sh*thole compared to other regional hubs like Amsterdam's Schipol or South Africa's OR Tambo
Let's not even call out Dubai's DXB
Last time I passed through, I [along with every other person]was just sweating like Christmas goats, couldn't get a place to sit after clearing immigration and waiting for my flight by the departure gate etc
The minister might be trying to push try uplifts on the current structres but there's as much as you can do with archaic infrastructure
What I would have expected the FG to have done is partner with the LASG to build the planned new airport in Lekki axis
But what better do you expect from a kindergaten presidency? cool cool
The sad part is the PDP and APC chieftains are in Abuja sharing the country's money while some low lifes are busy defending 'their own'. With the kind of people frequenting Nairaland, there is no hope for the country.
Politics › Re: Entry Of Ethiopian Airlines Into Enugu Will Kill The Aviation Industry- Vanguard by AZeD1(m): 10:34am On Oct 18, 2013
Afam4eva: I think the writer in spot on. I think the government should close down the international wing of the Lagos and Abuja airport and leave Enugu aand maybe Port-hacourt to serve the international arena. yeye dey smell.
The author never said Enugu airport should be closed down....
It should be noted that any government serious about the development of its aviation sector would not celebrate multiple entries for foreign airlines into its territories as doing that sets the tone for death of local airlines. And for an aviation sector that is as fledgling as Nigeria’s, the multiple entries granted foreign airlines by officials of the Aviation Ministry can best be described as debilitating for a struggling economy.

The implication of this is capital flight which, before now, had been put at close to N100 billion annually. So, the wild celebration that greeted ET flight into Enugu demonstrated the lack of capacity on the part of those drawing up policies for the aviation industry.

Enugu now makes Ethiopian Airlines’ third entry point into the country, after Lagos and Abuja. Other foreign airlines enjoy same approvals from the Aviation Ministry. This makes the aviation industry the worst bleeding spot for the country in terms of capital flight.
His point is don't give multiple entries to foreign airlines. Arik can only land at Heathrow in the UK and JFK in the US but Ethopian airways and other foreign airlines have 3 entries points in Nigeria.
