dhardline:Lol this is how Europeans sold Africans. They told us that we’re wild animals without the Ten Commandments and then proceeded side by side, the European churches and their govt enslaved African people for hundreds of years. What happened to their moral compass? Open your head |
keymatt:I'm also interested in your reply to @Earthstorms |
Klington:This picture lasan ![]() Anything wey una see make una take o ![]() |
Bigchristo:I understand that you’re confused and I can simplify it for you. The economic development you see in Lagos today is as result of a something called OPPRESSIVE CAPITALISM that was kickstarted in Lagos when Nigeria was a colony. The same reason why Europeans chose to exploit Nigeria through Lagos, is the same reason why foreign investment troop into Lagos; it’s strategic location. And this has nothing to do with the governors. Whatever development you see in Lagos is private. For the government, one of the tools in which we can measure government performance is HDI. The tax from the private sector/foreign investment can be used to improve human development through life expectancy, standard of living and education. If you live in Lagos, you’d know that all of these are terrible. Life expectancy is 61 years(ease of transport and traffic gridlocks, security), standard of living of the proletariat is low(no housing, no water), the sch system is so bad, public sch teachers don’t send their own kids to public schools. If Abia, Zamfara or Benue was in that location, they would be the Lagos of today. In conclusion, using HDI, there are definitely worse governors than Lagos state governors but you must be able to measure the ratio of the state’s history, factors of production, strategic location which all defines their ability to create revenue and then the revenue to the HDI. So you need to forget all these houses and Venza and Gwagon you see in Lekki, they’re empty and private and have nothing to do with our govt and look at the proletariat and the less privileged, this is where you see true government involvement. |
Bigchristo:To even say something like Lagos no be any state mate goes against the spirit of panafricanism. We all have to grow together. Inflation arose because the northerners cannot farm and the vast land in the north is not utilized properly. Because Lagos no be anybody mate doesn’t mean we buy food cheaper, does it? Functioning ports in other areas in Nigeria can ease up traffic congestion in Lagos. There are many more examples of why we need to grow together. This goes all the way to Africa as a whole. |
tribalmall:Haha this man. I educated you on economics on the other thread and you refused to learn that and chose myopic tribalism instead or you didn’t check the username before quoting me? I already told you twice, I’m a Yoruba economist living in Lagos. You know I was wrong to teach you economics. You have to unlearn tribalism first before anything can get in your brain apparently. |
Sanwo Olu is one of the better governors in Nigeria. Despite, Tinubu and his alpha accounts and others, Sanwo Olu is still able to deliver to some extent and he actually spoke the truth during the endsars, something that could have cost him his job. We see conscious effort from Jide. I’m absolutely against Tinubu for presidency, he’s intelligent but he uses it to find loopholes in power. Jide Sanwo Olu on the other hand, I think he might be a good president in the near future if he doesn’t request a 200% increment to his pension lol Lagos has so much potential, it just needs to be loose from the grip of the evil mongrels that think it’s ‘my precious’ lol |
excanny:I get where your heart is, but he’s not a western world politician lol He’s just an African man like me and you that has unlearnt a lot of nonsense, detribalized himself, loves this nation and it’s people and sees our potential. That’s all it takes! |
Xscape1993:Can you edit your post, and let people understand that it’s a method of these criminals. Instead of funding the educational system, they’ll steal the money and then send out peanuts as donations so that they can sleep at night. |
tribalmall:First off, I am a Yoruba man. And I appreciate that you recognise that Lagos has several advantages which means you see all of my points but choose to look through a tribal lens. I find it funny that when I say the truth about Lagos here on NL, Yoruba people immediately think I'm Igbo lol I'm just an economist. I'm going to summarise Lagos for you in basic terms. For you to measure Lagos government's performance, you could use Human Development Index. HDI is also a solution to overcome poverty used all over the world. I'm explaining this so you can understand a little, the margin/ratio of our IGR to human development and use it to juxtapose other Nigerian states. Under HDI, we have LIFE EXPECTANCY. Basically, life expectancy is how many hours Lagosians spend in traffic, how many doctors to one patient etc. Remember that Lagos has 20m+ population so where are the govt hospitals to match? Therefore, Life expectancy in Lagos is 61 years lol IGR o match rara We also have EDUCATION under HDI. The public secondary school in Lagos is still not up to standard. Heck, Sanwo Olu dares not send his kids to one. Without proper education, your population cannot create. They can't even dream. IGR is not matching. Lastly, STANDARD OF LIVING of the proletariat. The few housing estates that were built were not even affordable to the said proletariat. Again IGR is not matching. The HDI is an important tool to separate all these flashy signboards, all the Venza jeeps in Lekki, all the big hotels and night clubs from actual government performance. Note that as an economist, there are also areas where I know Obi could have done better but like I said, he remains the better candidate. I saw conscious efforts from him. |
Bragalane:Relax brother. It's not a rule, it's economics. I'm a Lagosian and we're all in this together. Do your research, In Anambra, you would see conscious effort by Peter Obi towards upping the level of healthy capitalism and human development especially and doing so in honesty. It's that drive that we value, doing so much with so little without corruption, despite it being difficult for Anambra because it doesn't have the strategic location and foundation that other cities like Lagos have. Do your research, Lagos has all the facilities and foundation to become a world class state that will match the HDI of top cities in South Africa, Indonesia etc is all I'm saying but it's not. Lagos is underperforming highly in HDI but note that established capitalism will keep attracting labour and investment so you don't tell me to leave lagos lol. |
Buckeyemedia1:Doesn't this signal to you that people believe in the man and what he represents not the party and that is a good thing. If Tinubu or Atiku leave APC and PDP respectively for an underdog party, they'd be done for. Wherever Obi goes today, well meaning Nigerians will follow. |
Bragalane:A lot of Nigerians need to unlearn a lot of things. Like thinking Sanwo Olu or Tinubu are the reasons for foreign investment in Lagos. 100 years of OPPRESSIVE CAPITALISM is the reason for foreign investment in Lagos. Foreign companies invest in Lagos because they know it's citizens can be exploited. Areas where you can measure good governance in Lagos is with infrastructure and human development. And apparently, foreign investment doesn't match the level of infrastructure/human development. |
stonebil:Fixed |
DeOTR:Where did I mention that it was because it was a former FCT? I'm telling you of the effects of oppressive capitalism in Lagos still operating and passed down informally to the bourgeoisie. Your contradicting statements here are just absurd. You mentioned strong institutions that will endure and then you mentioned corruption. When corruption is what eats into institutions and makes it weak. Look at the ridiculous amount of money Tinubu is taking as pension. It doesn't make your body itch? You really think such a self serving, absolutely corrupt mind will not further drill the loopholes in Nigeria's constitution? Nigeria is still a baby country and cannot withstand neocolonialsm and corruption at the same time Haba! Like I said, I still think a revolution by the proletariat is the only true way to freedom, not expecting a super hero from the political class to rescue. But as it stands, Obi doesn't exploit the system like the others and that's a fact. If you reply telling me you don't care about the facts that affects the fate of the entire population, then I have to ask you...so have you?... gone into drugs? Because apparently that was Tinubu's way as a young man and you might be following his footsteps. |
CoolAmbience:"Go and ask Liz Truss" You sound like a child |
DeOTR:Tinubu is not what he's portrayed as. Lagos was a former British colony that was driven by oppressive capitalism. Tinubu has NOTHING to do with this. The foreign investment trooping into Lagos for "partnership" do so because they know poor Lagosians can be exploited. Tinubu or not, foreign investment will keep coming to Lagos. All Tinubu did was increase the tax on these foreign companies thereby increasing IGR but in turn, Lagosians/Nigerians had to pay dearly because those companies increased the cost of their goods/services. Even the IGR is not matching the Human Development Index. My best guess is he looted most of our IGR. Before governorship, at the time(1989), Tinubu’s take home as a Mobil Oil Nigeria executive was a mere $2,400 a month and he claimed not to have any other revenue streams. Yet he still managed to deposit $661,000 into his individual money market account in 1990 and then another $1,216,500 a year later. He also opened more accounts with Citibank in its worldwide personal banking unit, transferring over half a million dollars from his First Heritage money market account into one of them in early 1991. Even the drug allegations are actually true as he had to forfeit a certain amount. Several court charges of money laundering on him in 2007 that the Nigerian judges are saying they should not have dismissed in 2010. I know Peter Obi is not the governor of the year but he's definitely not corrupt. Not a single stain on him. That alone gives him an edge over all these politicians. Personally, I don't believe in voting someone from the political class expecting him to put an end to impunity. I believe in organisation of the citizens themselves to take power from our oppressors but obviously Nigerians are not ready. But from the political class, Peter Obi remains the best candidate. |
When Liverpool go get baller wey fit carry ball for midfield abeg God? All we need is one Foden/Silva type instead of making all these small teams look like Gods with all these Jones and Elliot touching ball 3 times in one position. I trust City to lash these ones 3 first half. God abeg I don't want to be a mechanic like Carvalho, I want to be a baller like Bernando Silva! |
Xbobtage:Atiku supporters are simply going by tribalism. But you see Tinubu supporters, they're not only tribalistic, they have deep rooted hate for Igbo people. I don't know what happened to them. I'm a Yoruba man and Obi is obviously the best candidate and even these Tinubu supporters know but it's almost as if they're picking Tinubu out of spite. Them won show Igbo people say today na today even though that choice will affect them ultimately and their kids. Emotional Powershow lol |
Komu1048:Knows how to get what done? Don't let them sell lies to you. Tinubu is not what he's portrayed as. The tool to base a govt's efficiency towards its people is Human Development Index. Basically the standard of living. Life expectancy in Lagos is 61 years lol. You can see vividly that the tax of foreign investment in Lagos is not matching human development. |
fasho01:My brother, there's an angle you're not seeing. Let me remind you that Buhari is a fine, well awarded army man. He attended top cadets home and abroad and was sought after. For an insurgency like Boko Haram, Buhari is the perfect man for the job but as you can see, it doesn't even seem like he's the President these days. He's very old. He's done! We keep making the mistake of thinking these people are still the same. They're only well packaged shadows of themselves. Tinubu WAS the right man for the job but not anymore. Brother, don't make that mistake again. 4 years is a long time. Peter Obi is 61 years old with zero EFCC allegations. I'm a Yoruba man and I know he's a far better shout than any other candidate right now. Watch YouTube videos on Obi and I'm sure it'll convince you. |
hakeem4:But you realise it's up to you not the politicians. You decide who gets to go vs who. It's in your hands. I know you're scared that Nigeria isn't enough to feed everyone but that's lies. Through Obi, Nigeria is enough to feed everyone. We won't have to struggle to eat anymore. |
Righthussle:E dey turn belle no be lie. The average Nigerian has a weak mind. We ought to be stoning their cars when they drive by but instead fools will be chanting their names. What our leaders are doing is simply copying the European format. The Europeans came to take us as slaves and then exploited and killed us by the thousands through colonization. After doing all these, we still ALLOW them own the best houses and treat them like Gods till date! I understand that revolution takes times but I'm just absolutely confused by the way Africans love their oppressors. The political class in Nigeria are the new Europeans! |
CoolAmbience:Sit down there make pant dey wear you. How can anyone run for presidency under a party that has failed for 8 years. The logo of APC is an abomination these days. |
Nigerian politics lasan ![]() If you look at the pic below and you immediately know who I'm talking about in Nigeria and you still choose to vote them, you're sick.
|
obembet:Atiku is like a mixture of Tinubu and Buhari. You really want that? |
BATified2023:I support Obi but guy this is hilarious! Baba werey ni e |
Buckeyemedia1:I've gone through your post for a while and you stay bashing all the presidential candidates. Who are you wanting to vote for? |
lhordspy:Thanks for pushing this. Even I didn't know Obi asked for a halt of campaigns. Laudable! Btw una remain like 130 for the entire Nairaland wey still dey push Tinubu. You guys are hardworkers so keep it up. You're only making people aware that Obi is the obvious better option. |
Nothing goes past you uh, Sherlock Buhari? |
EgusiShankly:Jota wey never score goal for us at all this season. Jota has just 1 assist in PL. |
