For some people, Fridays are considered sinister days. This is particularly due to the "Friday the 13th" talk all over. For Nigerians however, Friday has now been seen as a party day. It is a day many Nigerians look forward to, knowing there will be one party or the other. It does not matter that Nigeria is "terrible" enough in itself. Nigerians make the most by learning to enjoy it. But is partying the only reason Nigerians get excited about Fridays? Of course not! Here are 5 reasons why Nigerians look forward to - and get excited about - Fridays. 1. Friday marks the last working day of the week. This may not be correct for every organisation, but most corporate offices close for the week on Friday. The workers do not have to go to work again until the following Monday. Of course, that is something to look forward to. 2. Fridays are party days. Nigerians like to party, and Friday has become the unofficially official party day. It is a day to go out with the "boiz" or with the "galz". Various clubs have caught the fever, and have special parties on Fridays. 3. Weekend starts on Friday. After work closes on Friday, weekend starts. Nigerians no longer wait till Saturday to enjoy the weekend. So, for a number of Nigerians, they start their weekend activities on Fridays. Movies especially seem to do well on Friday evenings. 4. Friday is the last day of school. Not only the working class look forward to Fridays. Students do so too. They get excited, knowing that school closes for the week on Friday and they don't have to go to school again till Monday. This may not really work for higher education students though. 5. Friday is Juma'ah. Fridays are not all about partying. A number of Nigerian Muslims specially look forward to this day for worship. Typically, Friday is to Muslims as Sunday is to Christians - a special day of worship. So, Muslims generally look forward to it. See full gist in link below. Is there any point you think should be added? Do place a comment. https://www.nigerianindex.com/5-reasons-why-nigerians-get-excited-about-fridays/

Over the past three years, the value of the Nigerian Naira has been falling. In late 2014, 1 Dollar exchanged for less than 200 Naira. Today, the case is totally different as 1 Dollar now goes for about 360 Naira. Here is a list of 10 African currencies that have more value than the Nigerian Naira in 2018. These currencies are also among the strongest on the continent. 1. Libyan Dinar (LYD). 2. Tunisian Dinar (TND). 3. Ghanaian Cedi (GHS). 4. Moroccan Dirham (MAD). 5. Zambian Kwacha (ZMW). 6. Botswana Pula (BWP). 7. South African Rand (ZAR). 8. Eritrean Nakfa (ERN). 9. Egyptian Pound (EGP). 10. Sudanese Pound (SDG). Surprised that the Ghanaian Cedi is on the list? Interestingly, the Naira is not even close to the Cedi in value. Note: The Libyan Dinar is close to the Dollar in value, and can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with other major currencies in the world. Find out details about these currencies, as well as the current exchange rates between them and the Naira and Dollar here: https://www.nigerianindex.com/10-african-currencies-more-valuable-than-the-nigerian-naira/ Cc: Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

It has been raining here in Lagos all day today. In fact, it has been raining since yesterday. Everywhere is so cold, but is it cold enough for snow? Over the years, many people have claimed that it has snowed in Nigeria. However, research shows that these reports are usually for hail, and not snow. A good number of Nigerians mistake hail for snow. This is understandable, considering the fact that that is the closest many of us have been to experiencing snowfall. So, has it ever snowed in Nigeria? The simple answer to that question is "No". At least, it has not been documented. Let us add the little chance that it has probably snowed in the past but there are no records. However, hailstones have fallen a number of times. Even hail is not that common an occurrence, but it happens. It has been reported in a number of States over time. Why do Nigerians get excited over hail? Nigerians get excited over hail simply because it does not even happen often. Many Nigerians have not even seen hail, let alone snow. So, when we see hailstones, we tend to get excited. This is totally understandable. Can it ever snow in Nigeria? After establishing that it has never snowed in Nigeria, the next question is if it can even snow here at all? So, what do you think? See link below for full details, as well as why it can or cannot snow in Nigeria, and drop your opinion. https://www.nigerianindex.com/has-it-ever-snowed-in-nigeria/ Cc: Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

These two places are also among the most beautiful cities in Nigeria. Here is a list of the tallest buildings in Nigeria. This question is not a mistake. Why is Nigeria such a terrible country? I actually found this question on Quora, and it was even asked by a non-Nigerian. Interesting, right? So, I got thinking. Is Nigeria really a terrible country? What are the things that make Nigeria a terrible country? How can I succeed even in this "terrible" country? What can I do to make Nigeria better? So, is Nigeria really a terrible country? Of course, for someone to ask this question, it means they already have a belief of what it means to be terrible. Sadly, Nigeria falls into the definitions of the word "terrible". Nigeria is dreadful and unpleasant. The country causes fear and alarm. Many Nigerians wake up every day, moving through the day looking over their shoulders. Many Nigerians wake up every day with nothing to eat. Many Nigerian graduates are out there seeking employment to no avail. Nigeria is "blessed" with many bad roads. Social amenities in Nigeria are nothing to write home about. Education in Nigeria seems to keep deteriorating. It is no wonder our politicians keep sending their children abroad to school. But why exactly is Nigeria such a terrible country? 1. Ethnic Bigotry and Tribalism Nigeria is blessed with a multitude of tribes and languages. This is a good heritage, but Nigerians have made it a source of hatred. Even right here on Nairaland, we see this every day. Innocent posts become battlegrounds for various tribes. Until we come together to see Nigeria as one, it will remain a terrible country. Unless, of course, it gets divided. 2. Religious Bigotry This is closely related to ethnic bigotry. Nigerians majorly practise two major religions - Christianity and Islam. These two religions seem not to get along with each other in the country, with religious leaders sometimes planting seeds of hatred towards other religions. It does not seem that either Christianity or Islam is leaving Nigeria anytime soon. So, Nigerians need to accept that fact, and learn to leave together peacefully. 3. Corruption and Greed Corruption exists at all levels. Both politicians and regular citizens can be corrupt. However, that of the politicians and other leaders are more pronounced because they usually "steal" in huge amounts. Our politicians embezzle money huge enough to have great positive impacts on Nigeria. This leaves Nigeria in problems. Regular Nigerians also get greedy and scam one another. Some Nigerians even go as far as scamming people abroad. No wonder some people outside Nigeria now generally see Nigerians as scammers. By the way, here's the best "Nigerian Prince" Email scam in the world. It's pretty interesting. NOTE: You can still make it and succeed in Nigeria, even in this state. There are people who keep succeeding. The problem is that Nigerians keep looking for quick money through illegitimate means when there are many legitimate businesses that can thrive here. You can even go ahead and start an online business in Nigeria. Remember that online businesses overcome the barrier of location. All you have to do is follow these business success tips. The "Nigerian Prince" email scam is one that has been around for a long time. It's usually a fraudulent way of getting money from people. This scam is usually carried out in two ways: Method 1. The scammer claims to be a member of a royal family, and that they need help moving a large sum of money out of Nigeria. They then request for some money from the unsuspecting (or suspecting) victim. They claim that this money is for "processing". The promise that makes many people fall into the trap is that they would give you a part of the fortune. Method 2. The scammer paints the picture of someone in serious danger. They may claim a kidnap or a false imprisonment. They claim to be wealthy but without access to their money at the time. So, they request money from you with a promise to pay you bountiful if you help them out. Needless to say, in either scenario, any money you send to these people is gone. Now, some of these scammer may indeed be in Nigeria, but some are not. So, which is actually the best and most interesting "Nigerian Prince" email scam in the world? Find out the latest method here; it promises to be interesting: https://www.nigerianindex.com/heres-the-best-nigerian-prince-email-scam-in-the-world/ Cc: Lalasticlala |
Here is a list of 10 profitable business ideas in Nigeria in 2018. 1. Real Estate: This involves investing in land and buildings, and selling them at huge prices or leasing them out. 2. Tailoring: Nigerians love fashion, and this business opportunity is wide enough for newcomers. Make money sewing clothes. 3. Freelance Writing: Many blog owners do not have the time to write posts themselves. They therefore require the services of creative writers. If you are skilled at writing, you can make money from this. 4. Clothing Store: You can start selling clothes from various designers. It could even be clothes by Nigerian tailors. The market is open. 5. Inverter and Solar Systems: With the epileptic power supply in Nigeria, this business is viable. Even though it is profitable, it is not yet fully tapped. This is partly due to the starting cost. For more details, as well as the remaining five, follow this link: https://www.nigerianindex.com/10-profitable-business-ideas-in-nigeria/

When talking about online business ideas in Nigeria, blogging is usually one of the first things to come to mind. However, the online market is way wider than just blogging. Blogging is "major" but it is not "only". Here is a list of the top 5 online businesses to start in Nigeria today. 1. Affiliate Marketing: Affiliate marketing involves selling other people's (or companies') products, and getting paid commissions for the sales. It is still an open market in Nigeria and you can easily tap into it. Jumia and Konga offer some of the most robust affiliate programmes in Nigeria today. You can find the registration links by following the link at the end of this post. 2. Instagram Influencing: What if you were told that you could actually make money from Instagram. Doing the same things you have been doing, you could create an income stream for yourself. All you have to do is, create a solid following. Then, you can make sponsored posts for people, or advertise their products. Then, get paid. 3. Freelancing: Freelancing is not all about Fiverr. You can offer freelancing services in Nigeria without Fiverr or Updesk or all those other platforms. There are people in Nigeria who look for creative writers, graphic designers, video editors, etc, on a regular basis. You can get in touch with any of them, and sell your skills. 4. Online Coaching: What are those skills you have? You can teach them to people for a fee. Just create an online course, and get people to register to learn. These people pay you to learn your skills. It does not matter the skill, there are people who want to learn. 5. Blogging: Of course, the list would be incomplete without blogging. Blogging is the most long-term of these business ideas. Find a niche that you love, create a website for it, and start writing about it. Then you can follow any of the various blog monetisation methods, and make a huge income from your blog. With the large number of businesses that exist in Nigeria today, business owners are faced with the challenge of making their own businesses stand out. Below is a list of tips to make your business actually stand out in Nigeria. 1. Be Original: Stop copying other businesses hook, line and sinker. Create your own products and services. 2. Be Innovative: It is not enough to keep recycling the same things that have been existing in your business. If you are interested in making your business stand out, then you have to come up with new designs to solve problems. 3. Be Hard-working: This goes without saying. A lazy business owner will find it hard to make their business stand out among the crowd. There are already too many hard-working business owners for the lazy ones to thrive. 4. Be Consistent: Lack of consistence will chase your customers away. When it comes to business, consistence is key. Once you begin to waver, your customers begin to see it as a sign of not being serious. 5. Provide Avenue for Feedback: The mistake many business owners make is that they do not provide ways for their customers to provide feedback. When you provide ways for your customers to get back to you, you learn of the improvements you need to make in your business. 6. Target a Specific Market: Do not try to be a jack of all trades when it comes to business. Make sure that your niche is narrow enough for you to become an authority in it. I would rather buy baby shoes from a Store that sells only baby shoes than from a store that sells general products. Falz's parody to Childish Gambino's "This Is America", "This Is Nigeria", has gotten lots of accolades as well as criticisms since its release in May, 2018. Most of the criticisms stem from his use of ladies in hijabs dancing Shaku Shaku in the video. Many people have found it offensive and disrespectful. Other people think there is no big deal. Here is a full review of the track. This review also addresses the issue of whether it was wrong of Falz to include those girls in the video or not. The opinion from a neutral ground. In recent times, the face unlock feature has gained more popularity among smartphone manufacturers. Following Apple's inclusion of this feature in the iPhone X, and the inclusion of same in the Galaxy S9, OnePlus also decided to include the feature in the OnePlus 6, which was launched in May, 2018. However, it appears that there is a way to cheat the system, especially on the OnePlus 6. Considering the fact that the technology used by OnePlus only works by determining the distances between various areas on a user's face and comparing these distances with the original scan, a simple photo printout of the user has been found to be able to unlock it. OnePlus claims that the face unlock feature was mainly for convenience, and that it was not activated for sensitive apps such as those for banking. Owners are advised to use passwords, PINs or the fingerprint sensor for such apps.
