If you don't continually drain your batteries to nought, it will last more years so long as you are able to get good ones to start with Electroweb: It is true what u have said. But one key thing is the supply of NEPA light once in two days, becaus its the NEPA light that can effectively charge the batteries or u need a big gen like minimum 5kva to charge it. Also note that the money u save now will be used to buy batteries when they go bad. |
Science/Technology › Re: How my inverter is saving me in this poor power supply and no-fuel situation by bigtt76(f): 6:01am On Apr 25, 2016 |
Sorry but it doesn't seem to pan out well as you have described. I might be wrong but don't you think this same scenario plays out when using Generator and NEPA (abi wat's it called thesedays ) ...the current from both source must not flow together within the same circuitry? Maybe if you say connecting the flow from the solar panel and the batteries in parallel to the appliance that should aggregate the current to it. Then also, you need to connect the solar panel to the battery to charge it looks feasible though. Thanks all the same. EnigmaticEnigma: Well, the splitting is done automatically so to speak.
The best way i can describe it is like having T-branch pipe with flows from the bottom to the left and right and from the left to the right.
https://thumb101.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/370600/218664073/stock-photo-the-letter-t-created-out-of-multiple-pieces-of-plastic-drain-pipe-218664073.jpg
In the T-branch pipe above, lets say your inverter is requesting current on the branch on the right (right upper part of the T), your batteries are sending in current from the branch on the left(left upper part of the T) and your solar panels are sending in current from the branch at the bottom (tail of the T).
Now, when the solar current (like water) comes in from the branch at the bottom, it's tendency is to flow into the battery branch on the left to charge the batteries.
Now once you load your inverter, the inverter makes a request for current from the battery, but since current is already flowing in from the solar panel at the bottom branch, the inverter makes use of this current flowing in from the bottom with whatever additional current from the left branch (battery) that it needs to complete it's current request.
So if your inverter on the right side requests for 10amps and your solar is already flowing in 2 amps from the bottom pipe into the inverter, your batteries would need to flow the remaining 8amps into the right side. The so called switching is based on the need of the inverter. If the inverter needs current, it will take it first from solar panels then the rest from the battery.
obviously this is an over simplification. |

Ok great will do. DMerciful: You have a lot of ideas....nice. Some solar charge controllers have auxiliary outputs that can power a relay which in turn can be made to power specific load like freezer. Now as night comes, the charge controller can no longer power the relay which in turn will shutdown d freezer from d inverter system however once mains is restored, it switches d freezer to mains. I can design such a system..contact me on chyke200@gmail.com |
Science/Technology › Re: How my inverter is saving me in this poor power supply and no-fuel situation by bigtt76(f): 10:50pm On Apr 24, 2016 |
Nice one but how do you split the load amongst both power source? Getting interesting EnigmaticEnigma: It's kindoff a simple process and wiring diagrams are available all over the net.
It's not like only solar works at a time and only the batteries work at another time, well except for night time when solar power is 0.
Now, lets say it's 2pm in the afternoon and your solar panels are producing 400watts and you want to power something that only uses 100watts, what happens is that 100watts of that power is forced to your inverter to run your load, while the remaining 300watts charges your battery.
Now, lets say you are still producting 400watts of solar by 2:30pm and you want to run something a bit bigger, like an electric cooking pot of 800watts. Your solar power would provide half of your load power (800watts), while the remaining (only 400watts will come from the battery). As you can see, this is much healthier for your batteries, pulling only 400watts than it would be to pull the whole 800watts alone from the battery without the help of the solar panel.
Of course at night, your solar input would be 0 and your batteries would have to pick up the slack for all loads in your house.
As per connection, there really is nothing special. You just go from solar, to charge controller, then to the batteries. However, safety features like fuses and breakers need to be taken into consideration, as well as wire sizes, distance and so on. |

That would be ideal. All one needs to do is get a high wattage solar panel system. The excess power will be used to charge the battery. The only issue here is power loss due to conversion of the solar panel's DC to AC for use with household appliances. This might be the reason why houses are supplied directly from battery. What you think? DMerciful: The battery comes into plan when night comes or when d sun is low provided your solar power generation is larger than your load averagely. |
Science/Technology › Re: How my inverter is saving me in this poor power supply and no-fuel situation by bigtt76(f): 9:53pm On Apr 24, 2016 |
Ok but it could still mean the company connected the Solar panels to your battery charger direct and supplied the house from the battery through the inverter.
Ideally it would be best if your house I s supplied during the day from the solar panels and the battery charged through this route while at night the battery supplies the house. So it means your battery discharges less than it would if connected otherwise.
Some appliances such as fridge or freezer can work during the day on solar and turned off at night to power other appliances which are night use so power can be optimized correctly.
Looking forward to the diagram. I would be very grateful.

Nice one. Please can you share with us the circuit diagram showing how you connected yours? I want to know if the solar panels supply your house during the day and cut over to batteries during the night. Usual connection is to draw power from the battery all day which to me kills the batteries prematurely. A y thought here would be appreciated. Solar panels is the best option jaaaare. Please can you link me with your guy? Want to know how to go about mine. I want the same too. Thanks ValarDoharis: I don't have an inverter but planning to buy. I have a colleague who combined it with solar and he doesn't use mains supply. The solar panels supply his entire house. He has about 20 solar panels on his roof. That's what I'm saving for. |

Well the best bet will be to stay around those areas. There are hotels close by there. Paloma hotel is one close to Nkurumah Circle area or you can chose to stay at the Labadi Beach Hotel. These might be expensive though. You got other cheaper options outskirt of Accra town where most Naija guys chose to stay. I don't have any particular name though. A Google search of hotels in Ghana would help out. Have a lovely stay and avoid too much contact with our Naija brodas der o. Ok great. What is your itinery like? Are you going on a pre-packaged tour or just blindly? If on a pre-packaged tour, then it means you must have lined up places to visit, friends to meet up with. In this case you will have to know where they (your friends) stay or places you're visiting so that you can plan your own accommodation. Transportation cost here is like $1 (5 Ghana cedis) minimum. On the other hand, if you are traveling blindly (on your own arrangement) then you would need to Google places of interest or according to your own taste before departing and through that you will know where to stay and save cost. yinkay007: Im only going to spend my little break there..... |

Thanks for this very apt and no insults. This is how NLders should behave. Lovely day and weekend ahead Themandator: This government is without plan.... No amount of palliative, fanciful and populist distraction like Dasuki detention and trial will substitute for a proper plan of action.. We hear diversification but can't see or feel any work plan for it.... What we see is a bullheaded defence of the naira against it true value.
Jonathan didn't just defend the naira, he was at the same time encouraging practical diversification with written down policies that could be obtained, read and critiqued.. Eg the automobile policy, the power road map, the agricultural revolution policy under Adewumi.
We noticed his technology driven fight against corruption and waste... TSA, public sector worker verification... We noticed his push in the rail sector with the Kaduna 164km modern rail at &205m.
We saw his YOUWIN projects, scholarship for 1st class graduates and the rest.
Buhari's is yet to launch a policy even against malaria, one year after.... The policies he inherited, he has implemented in ways that has thrown Nigerians out of their jobs.
Fuel scarcity is not as a result of foreign exchange scarcity but this government early disposition to populist expectations.... When they released their reversed Template for importation of PMS, the business people told them it wasn't possible to do it with such a template but they insisted and gave the entire allocation to NNPC and the depot owners resorted to buying from Nnpc... That is why we are where we are now. We hop they do the needful, this quarter even though they have made the marketers lose credibility with their foreign creditors through delays in subsidy claims. |
