equlibrium: You r right my brov, its been an uphill battle tellin ppl in Nigeria, don't follow him just cos he is Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Ijaw, Fulani etc. But I must confess its a lost cause, dis dudes dat have been trolling me on this tread do dis cos of tribal sentiments, yet I am the same tribe with dem and the infamous tinubu, we all suffer the same rot directly or indirectly, I am not team GEJ laptop crew, my philosophy is simple, there are only two tribes in Nigeria, not 200 or 250, just 2. Rich and poor, no middle ground, no Yoruba, Hausa, igbo, ijaw, no religion, notin! And yes I can wish death for my enemy, cos I consider dem all my enemies, tinubu, ibori, obj, ibb, chimaroke nnamani, gej, orji uzor Kali, deziani, gej, if u r corrupt, if u take wants mine/ours as a collective, if u improvish the masses, u r my enemy and I wish u dead.My brother your level of thinking is away above the average Nigerian. It's a shame but most Nigerians these days can't see beyond ethnic group/Church/Mosque. They have zero capacity for deep intellectual analysis of their situation, and that's why things seem to just get worse and worse. Every part of the Nation you go to from Sapple to Sokoto you see the effects of corruption, yet people still praise and worship 'leaders' simply because they are from their tribe. We are truly an under evolved people. Maybe in another 100 years we would have reached a level of mental maturity to be able to properly hold our leaders to account regardless of where they are come from. |
It is indeed true that people get the leaders they deserve. Here is a man who was governor for 8 years. His man has been governor for 6 years and between them after 14 years, Lagos dose not have a state of the art hospital. This would not happen in the developed world and that's the reason Nigeria will remain a backward place, where only the few at the top enjoy the nations wealth, and the majority toil away night and day to make a living. The worse thing is the majority of the masses don't even seem to care. |
In the UK people are too stressed with the high cost of life. This is can be seen in the aggresion they show on the road and in train stations. In fog when the visibility is poor you are supposed to drive really slow, but I bet you they were driving too fast. Shame, hope the injured recover quickly |
Aarenaija: The people from that part of the country are just like that. To them their son is just being a victim of political crossfire.I am sorry but this happens EVERYWHERE in Nigeria. The AL-Mustapha that the Northern youths worship was he not corrupt? In 2003 did the Yoruba not rally around OBJ even though he was a corrupt failure? You go to Kano and try speak bad words about Abacha. That's just the way Nigeria is. All the ethnic groups defend their own |
I've said it before on a previous forum, I know many of you don't know especially if you are not from Delta state, but the truth is Ibori did a lot of development. That is just a fact. It dose not take away from the fact that he was also corrupt but he did do a lot for Delta state. I can understand why his people venerate him. When you've had no development at all for decades, a little seems like a lot. |
Ibori stole some money, yes. However the only reason he's in Jail today was because of his opposition to GEJ. As other posters have said, Ibori did quite a lot of development in Delta State. I schooled in Warri in the 80's, I went back in 2008 and could not recognize the place. I even drove past my old school without knowing, such was the degree of development and change. I'll give credit where it's due. Among the 1999-2007 set of governors, James Ibori def ranks in the top tier, along with Donald Duke and Umaru Yar'dua. As to this corruption stuff, I can't defend Ibori and he's indeed paying the price for his crimes, but let's not kid ourselves, there are loads of people just as, if not more, corrupt than Ibori walking around free, some being called 'Elders', 'statesman' etc. Their birthdays are major events and they are praised to the high heavens. If some people in Delta state want to honor a man who brought long delayed development to them, then they should be left alone to do that. I respect them for remembering one of their own. |
The question here is quite simple. How many top, European clubs are looking at Oboabona currently? The guy is being very short sighted. Just the fact that he would come and do trials with Arsenal, maybe play for in some of the pre-season games would raise his profile. It might not even be Arsenal that finally offers him a contract but some other club that get to see him. He should not worry, I am sure there's many 2nd division clubs in Greece, Spain and Portugal that will be happy to sign him with no trials.Water finds it's level always. |
Theresa May to ban two extremist groups UK-based Minbar Ansar Deen and Nigeria-based Boko Haram are to be proscribed in the UK under terrorism laws Two extremist groups – UK-based Minbar Ansar Deen and Nigeria-based Boko Haram – are to be proscribed in the UK under terrorism laws, making membership and support for them a criminal offence. The home secretary, Theresa May, is to lay an order which, if approved by parliament, will ban both of the organisations from operating in the UK from midnight on Friday morning. Minbar Ansar Deen – also known as Ansar al-Sharia UK – promotes terrorism by distributing content through its online forum, which encourages individuals to travel overseas to engage in extremist activity, specifically fighting, the Home Office said. The government said banning Boko Haram, which aspires to establish Islamic law in Nigeria, would prevent the group from operating in the UK and give the police powers to tackle any UK-based support for the group. Decisions to proscribe the organisations are understood to be unrelated to the murder of the soldier Drummer Lee Rigby near Woolwich barracks in south-east London in May. The penalties for proscription offences can be a maximum of 10 years in prison or a £5,000 fine. Under the Terrorism Act 2000, the home secretary can proscribe an organisation if it is believed to be concerned in terrorism. However, a high threshold, taking into account the threat the group poses to the UK, must be met for the minister to go ahead and proscribe an organisation. If approved by parliament, it will be a criminal offence to belong to or back Minbar Ansar Deen or Boko Haram, as well as arrange meetings or wear clothing in support of them. Other proscribed groups include al-Qaida, al-Shabaab and Islam4UK, which before it was banned was led by Anjem Choudary. http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2013/jul/08/theresa-may-to-ben-extremist-groups |
trolling: That sleepless night na for mouth, una never see anything yet once they put an end to the petrodollar and see how it's gonna affect the global economy, I go see Wetin una go do when America won't be able to buy una oil, they already have Nafta set up in place for that, Canada go supply USA with oil then and then would you know the definition of unemployment, didn't mean to burst yall bubbles but it's imminent or why do you think they have BRICS in place . I'm not a gloom and doom person but it's around the cornerI was reading some economic research documents over the weekend. They stated that in a few years America will actually be producing more petrol than Saudi due to advancements in the Shale Gas extraction industry. There are now predictions that the price of Crude oil could slide by as much as 50% in the next decade. I think worse than sleepless is on the way O! |
I'm from Dublin and you can travel up and down the country and as much as the Irish despise the English most people would support an EPL club or the other when we support aitricity league teams. I myself am a shamrock rovers fan that is my local team and I support MFC as well. So why the OP is vexing because BFF supports a foreign team beats me
Ok, and have you seen any Irish PUBLIC figure ever wear an EPL shirt or scaf? Nobody is saying Fashola can't support Man U of course he can. The OP's point is that a Governor he is the symbol of Lagos state, therefore in a public function he should strive to promote his state and by extension his country. Let's take Michelle Obama as an example. A very stylish lady you could argue she can buy her clothes from any designer she wants (especially as she uses are own funds) yet she makes a point of always supporting US designers. It would just be considered 'wrong' if she was seen at a major function like a state dinner wearing an Italian or France designed dress Do you get the point? As a public figure you should always strive to promote you own. A private person can do anything they want. |
doublefreez: My friend its a birthday cake. Dont try to exaggerate the matter. Fashola is a human, a normal Nigeria and should behave as such. So because he os a Govn he shouldnt watch or support a league or club of his choice? I doubt if you know how much fashola is passionate about sports in lagos. Think straight and dont be aggrieved over trivial issues. He the governor of the most prominent state in the Federation. It is WRONG for his birthday cake to be promoting a foreign club, when his state has it's own club. He is PUBLIC FIGURE. You and I a PRIVATE citizens we can do what we like. It is this lack of distinction between PUBLIC and PRIVATE that is the bane of the problems in our country. If we are saying that a public figure can do whatever he likes, then why would he not take that attitude to govt funds? It is clear that many Nigerians do not want to hold their leaders to a high standard, no wonder you get the leaders you have |
babseg: Rubbish, posing with a cake decorated with man u logo or emblem. Dont know y we dont celebrate our stuffs. What is wrong? Are you for real? He is a state governor not a private citizen, I assume you know the difference between the two? |
RICHIE BOI: https://i1.wp.com/www.toksdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/fashola.jpgYou have made one of the most thoughtful and insightful observations on NL that I've read in a long time. It gives me hope that there are people like you. Maybe just maybe this country still has hope. I too am disgusted by these pictures. Would you see any of the US governors have a birthday cake of a foreign club? Our rulers are totally clueless. They lack any form of national pride. Why should we be surprised. They deliver their children abroad, school them abroad, go for all their medical treatment abroad, nowadays even their owmabe is done in Dubai. Haba we may as well get genuine Oyibo to come and rule us than these wana be Oyibos! |
coogar: who would vote for theresa may?I agree that her chances are slim but she def has the ambition, you just need to follow the political press to see this. Like I said she needs to be seen to be tough on immigration to score points with the media and party. As for Boris Johnson I'll wager you he'll never be Tory leader. He's bumbling big fool style might work for Mayor of London but never for PM. |
People here's some thoughts on this from the UK: 1: This policy (if we can even call it that) is being pushed by Theresa May, the Home Sec who has ambitions to be PM if the Conservatives loose in 2015. She needs to raise her profile with the right wing press and the conservative Party. 2: Since the announcement on Sunday (In only 1 major newspaper) no govt figure has come out to support the plan. 3: The British need trade with 3rd world as the EU is stagnant at the moment and any thing that could impact that trade will never see the light of day. With all of the above I really doubt if this policy will ever be implemented. The current govt here have a habit of talking big but delivering little (Kind of like GEJ's administration ) Let's relax and watch how things unfold but kudos to the FG for firing a warning shot at them. Trust me that's the only language the British understand. |
I am sorry but I must strongly disagree with the Senator. The truth is June 12 is actually much bigger than MKO. The annulment of that election was the day the Military told us we have no rights. We are nothing and they are all mighty. That's why it had to be resisted. I don't care if Anini had been the winner the principal is the same. The majority of Nigerian voters, voted for a man to be their president and a few people conspired to deny them their vote. Never again should we allow such a thing to happen, regardless of who victor is. It's simply a matter of principal something Senator Owie seems unable to grasp. |
Burger01: Shame to Buhari, shame to Tinubu, shame to APC, CPC, PPN, VGH..in fact shame to anything anti-SOE and supporters of these Boko haram bigots. They are the real enemies of Nigeria.Well said. In the developed world politicians come together when the nation is at war. The fact that Buhari and Tinubu can be critical of the SOE, when even Shiek Gumi is in favour of it, really says it all. APC is dead on arrival in the south and middle belt. Lets see how Buhari and Tinubu make it to Aso rock in 2015 now that we've all see their true colours |
ge best: GEJ dont think Edo and rivers are the same, if it repeat it self again we the Edos will not take it likely with you because we dont play with Oshiomhole, any way Oshiobaba dont worry every disappointment is a blessing, God have a purpose for that.If I may ask how much dose it cost the Edo State govt to chatter a helicopter? How many times in a year dose the gov do this? Is this really the most prudent way to spend the stats merge funds? |
Buhari has done significant damage to his political ambitions with this statement. He has shown himself to be regional minded person who lacks the outlook and character to rule Nigeria. Indeed his views are the kind I would expect to hear in a buka or motor park, not by a former head of state. What a shame. He should bow out now because if the APC field him in 2015 they will loose by a very wide margin especially in the South. |
Rotflmao. The lunatic gets angry when you tell him to seek mental help. Well, no mad man will agree he is mad. The guy has obvious mental issues, which is probably a family secret. They have now offloaded this societal menace on an innocent girl. Women, learn from this. If you don't want you and your children branded with names that they did not born you with, watch out for mad people like this. If it talks, walks, and thinks madly. It is mad.
Ah so we still have logical intellects on Niaraland? Indeed there is hope! I've been reading some of posts on this thread did not know weather to laugh or cry. How can a people be so ignorant? You have spoken well, and I hope more people can think you |
dnative: 'Running a business in Nigeria' and 'while living abroad' should never occur in the same sentence. It will require pure genuis or extraordinary luck to make it work. Do not try it! Many have been there (moi included) and always got burnt - it's usually the same ol' story - money down the drain.Very well said. |
bebe2: God bless u my dear, everything they will call me, so I thot, open a business and we can all benefit from it.At some point you need to put yourself first. It's not easy and you come across as a very kind and caring person, but in all honesty you need to think of your own kids first. We all know how hard the UK is becoming. Assuming they are going to do University in the UK then you need to think having a lot set aside for them, so they don't end up with large student debt. I know it sounds harsh but that is the reality. My own parents did the same in the old days when things were good. We had all kinds of relatives staying with us, My dad would sponsor their education and later pick up the tab for the Wedding. By the time we the kids were ready for Uni money don finish and we had to struggle. We all paid for our so that taught me a very harsh lesson. SELF FIRST. |
My dear, I am from Edo like you shall I address as you as my sister. Please take my words for what they are, the words of advice from a brother. Consider either going back to Nigeria to manage this business yourself, or cut your losses and stop now. I hate to tell you this but I've seen it so many time before and it just dose not work. Nobody can run your business like you. Even your blood relative may not have the motivation or drive to go the extra mile required to run a business and make good profits. When you consider that Nigeria can be a very tough place to do business you have to go the extra mile. I would advice you to focus on static business like real estate which requires minimal intervention. I wish you all the best. |
To think that many ignorant Nigerians continue to hail this bigot as somekind of hero. What dose he have to say or do before people will seem him for zealot he his. Buhari is a typical Fulani. Arrogant to the core. He dose not care one iota for the people of the South-South. He has never expressed any concern for their plight. He also has never come out to clearly condemn BH and related Muslim fanatics. For God's sake even Sheik Gumi has done so , but not this jumped up Mullah. |
femmy2010: I still have this feeling that a Buhari led government would bring Nigeria back to the path of greatness.Excuse me!! Are you for real? Even when he was an Army General Buhari could not control the likes of Babangida and Abacha who eventually got rid of him. What makes you think he will be able to control all these corrupt PDP/APC folks? I beg shine your eyes |
TechRev: ... Amazing, nigerians shout pdp is our ruin, nothing to show for 12 yrs. They shout we must replace pdp. So the pdp guys now leave pdp to help nigerians replace pdp with themselves under new name media APC. Jokers ... So if buhari and Tinubu can dialogue with pdp govs to bring their structures to them, its obvious pdp aint the problem. How can a sane man use the problem as his solution? Naija ehh ...Well spoken my brother. Nothing more to add!! |
taharqa: SHUT that your sillly mouth there, you NITWIT. Which USA? Some of you are so stu.pid and damn Ignorant to booth. GOSH!!!I had wanted to write a reply to this thread but you have said everything I could have said and maybe better. The US are the biggest hypocrites in the world. In addition to all the points you have made above, they also pushed the UK to give full pardon to all the IRA killers, due to the large Irish lobby. |
I don't support GEJ, in fact I think he is one of the worst Presidents we've had in this country. However in this case I think we need to be realistic. The fact is Almas is a very big man in the Ijaw nation (for better of for worse). He actually has much more 'street cred' than GEJ. If this pardon was not given, I am sure we would have seen a resumption of bombings and all the other issues that would have hindered the economy. I don't like the pardon, but if it helps to keep the creeks calm then so be it. |
It is really great to see an Emir speaking the truth. Thank you sir. May your reign and life be long! |
The first Jesuit to be elected Pope!! |
Greedy Northern politicians created 'Boko Haram' to make Nigeria too hot for GEJ. However GEJ's security guys have implemented a cunning counter terror strategy by actually creating their own 'Boko Haram' and carrying out havoc across the North. The consequence of this is that the Northern economy has collapsed. Now that they can see the error of their ways, they are crying for Amnesty. Of course no 'Boko Haram leaders' will every show up the way Tompolo and Ateke Tom came to Abuja, because the Boko Haram leaders are Atiku, Ciroma and the rest of the Northern Mafia. GEJ should continue to pound them in the name of 'Boko Haram'. Show them no mercy. |
) Let's relax and watch how things unfold but kudos to the FG for firing a warning shot at them. Trust me that's the only language the British understand.
