amazingqueen:Close to him where - aso rock. What kind of foolish insinuations. Where was his love for the youths during the immigration recruitment scam? |
ozoigbondu:Laughs. Obj is over relevant. They all know |
I joseph1832:Well said. What amazes me is that this president still has supporters. If you want to know whether jonathan is good, go and ask the internally displaced persons in the north east or the parents of the chibok girls. A sane president resigns for issues like this. If a president finds it hard to convince his citizens that he is working hard, then he is not working. |
Dannyset:You are truly wise |
One of the most beautiful write-ups I have read since the beginning of the year. Soludo's write ups was another. He summarized the problem with nigeria and highlighted how to solved them. Though I do not agree with some, overall it is a beautiful write up. After reading this, I just don't know what to say. We must thank Tinubu and the APC chieftains for giving us hope and a reason for change. |
YSA06:I am surprise he still has supporters. He doesn't need to be shocked, he started the betrayal tactics. First, carrying out anti-party politics by supporting opposing parties (Edo, Anambra etc). He agreed to a single term and renegade on that agreement. The president has destroyed the PDP and if Buhari emerges as president, it is only the beginning of the end for PDP. This same president is trying to divide nigeria. I have never seen a situation where ethnic division is staring at our faces so wide even though we collectively share the same problems. The president continues to mix religion with politics, dancing and giving aso rock press releases from churches. When the military were in charge, we only screamed based on the effect of their decrees, when Obasanjo was president, we insulted him not because he is a Yoruba man but because some policies were not people friendly. Jonathan - the division is just surprisingly shocking. People from the Niger delta can make utterances without the police inviting them for a chat. The military now decides how to rig election for the benefits of a party and play decisive roles in politics. The police is required to shoot and ask questions later. Senior police officers embarrassing democratically elected officials. Military personnel holding siege and patrolling residences of members of the opposing party, while extra hands are required in sambisa forest. The president is taking us back to the period of dictatorship, simple and short. I don't care if jonathan want to transform to an angel next term, he doesn't deserve our votes. He does not respect the rule of law. |
They are soliciting for clients. Pushing to the extreme to be relevant |
You are not a serious man. C'mon go and manage your home |
This is laughable. When the propaganda started. The first thing I did was to check the constitution and I was wondering why would people continue to talk anyhow when the requirements are started clearly. The first thing a reasonable man should have done is to check what the constitution (law of the land) requires. |
A nice way to put it. Misdirected priorities |
They had no choice. It is called austerity measure. Since 2011, the report was gathering dust. |
On a serious note, this is a dream that may be achieved. However, these guys need to start selling their idea. |
A shame to the Nigerian army. I feel highly insulted by the comments of the Nigerien, but they only said the truth. We actually do not need a multi-national troop to curtail the insurgence, if only the Nigerian army had provided the right equipment and morale for the soldiers. I can feel Gen. Olukolade feels insulted and I am also glad. The issue of boko haram was politicised now the cock has come home to roost. Our image in foreign affairs, especially in Africa, just hits the rocks. We used to be admired, now we are laughed at and now mocked. |
dustydee:Sanction who - The President? In a sane society. He should be tendering his resignation letter. This is a huge scandal and I wonder why newspapers are shying away from it. I guess I will have to believe saharareporters that they have been bribed. But this saharareporters wicked oh - the way they dig up issues. I like them sha |
Ovamboland:This is water-gate scandal. A similar issue like this made President Nixon to resign. |
deemdeem:Also importer of rice and food supplies will benefit. I am not against the policy. I will be more interested in the quality of education. Secondary school students in China can write programming codes. The british are considering incorporating same into their educational curriculum. Why don't improve our education so that foreigners will like to study in Nigeria, it will promote educational tourism like in the UK and India. That is another way to receive foreign revenue. Our leaders no dey think. We now have private institutions doing the work for the government. Education is critical to national development and should not be relegated to private individuals. Don't feed their stomach, feed their minds. |
deemdeem:The idea is not bad. I am only interested in the cost implication. I just feel it is a policy to appear popular because it may be difficult to implement. Like Soludo said, a plan without naira or kobo is a wish-list |
J12:An average nigerian with the average thinking |
free2ryhme:Many of these politicians do not know what they are saying. I am truly disappointed in APC because of certain reasons. They claim to be CHANGE. I do not see the change even after recruiting the Obama campaign organisers. If the Vice President candidate of APC cannot truly communicate the economic changes they are coming on board to implement then there is a problem because the VP is the chairman of the economic committee meeting. Stopping the importation of tomatoes and cassava and reducing import tariffs of second hand cars in order to encourage importation of cars are conflicting economic policies. Is he just saying all these to sway votes? I also disagree with him on the free lunch for all public schools - that is not feasible and if feasible too expensive for our economy and also it does not improve on the quality of education except the aim is to increase the number of almajiris rushing down in the afternoons to public school for a slice of the cake. The aim here should be improving the quality of education not food. |
Justcash:Laughs, it is only a man who has stolen money or intends to launder money that thinks of car manufacturing as creating jobs. A business man should be thinking, how many cars can I sell in a month? Only government should be thinking of creating jobs without any form of sales. If a business man manufactures 10,000 units of cars per month, without any sales, he would have manufactured 120,000 units of vehicles parked at the store. With no sales, he cannot pay salary. Hence the jobs he has created from opening the factory would be lost because of lack of patronage. So it is in the best interest of the car manufacturers that average nigerians can purchase their products. Else - Shop go close. |
deemdeem:Nice comment, but I disagree that the timing is wrong. On a frank note, these manufacturers are yet to start rolling out vehicles. I have not seen any advert on the prices of Innoson vehicles. I have called the sales representatives on their website, the number never picks up. I don't know the operating model for Innoson (maybe demand outstrips supply) because it had to take political and presidential endorsement for the public to believe that Innoson actually manufactures/assembles vehicles. The government should be interested now in organising a vehicle ownership financing scheme with low interest rate spread across the lifespan of the vehicle and likewise the option for trade-ins. I believe this is one way that can explode the automobile policy. The government should also be looking at implementing a credit system in the country as it is obtainable in developed countries. I do not want to start explaining the effect of a credit system, might bore some people. But trust me, if implemented right, the multiplier effect will be tremendous. Policies should be drafted and implemented to at least affect 80% of the populace and not for the 1%. |
Zikkyy:The average citizen or residents in developed countries cannot truly afford a new vehicle by paying outright cash. But they have designed credit schemes, hire purchase rights, vehicle lease options, monthly repayment plans and also trade-ins schemes so that they can be affordable. Do you think an average american will go to a vehicle dealer/distribution shop and count $40,000 or even $27,000 to buy a vehicle with cash except you are an I.T guru, investment banker (who has received his yearly bonus), a celeb or sport player. The IRS will be knocking on your door the next day. Of course, the differential between importing a new car and assembling them here in the country may not be much. The issue should be, how do we get the average nigerian to buy these cars manufactured or assembled in nigeria. |
I agree with decentralised the production of power. It will increase the chances of achieving constant power supply. However, the disadvantage is enabling corrupt leaders access funds (either by borrowing or donations) meant for power for their personal use and the process would be bastardized. I do not agree with reducing import tariff on imported cars. Comments like this make car manufacturers halt plans to build assembly plants. Osinbajo, Nigerians prefer NEW CARS, it is condition that makes us patronized used vehicles. Reducing import tariff will make new cars unfavourable and the auto-mobile policy being currently implemented will be thrown away. |
One thing I understand in this country is that - He who scream the loudest, gets the most attention |
Skillbobralph:Who is the fool putting up budgets (mathematics made easy). A budget is a planned estimate of revenue and expenses and not what is actually obtained as revenue or what was spent as expenditure. If the government plan to receive $10 billion as revenue, it may actually receive $30billion as revenue and if the govt estimate to spend $1 trillion as expenditure, it may spend $80 billion as expenditure. Another point, our budget never accounts for estimated tax revenues, revenue from custom duties but mainly Oil revenue. The budget never shows external borrowings which may also be used for expenditures. So there is a possibility of stealing $30billion because at that point oil prices were at an unprecedented high price |
PDP is a huge problem in Nigeria. Where people refuse to follow and compile with the constitution of the party is a problem. That is why we have drunks as leaders with no ethics or morals. A party chairman must be neutral and if he accepts bribes, and such circumstances is out in the public, he must accept the sanctions levied against him by the party. However, this is not the case. Practically, you find the Chairman refusing to abide by the constitution of the party and forming a faction. That is why there are so many factions in PDP |
People you guys should know that this is a political stunt and the Buharis do not have the money. It is probably from the campaign pool fund. However, the case, a good move to remember the internally displayed people who are now refugees in their own country caused by no fault of theirs but of failed leadership and nonchalant behavior. This is how proper leadership is shown. What madam buhari is doing is what patience should be doing rather than tussle power with PDP chieftains |
tundemogba12:Just to correct you - a failed president and a former dictator |
BornSad:He has nothing. A white wash case to shift attention. |
Okupe is one of the people getting GEJ into trouble. He should be the first to get the sack. |
Tinubu should go to court and get an injunction immediately. He should also sue the Military Council, Service Chiefs, Jonathan, PDP, The Presidency and The Federal Government for trespassing, freedom of movement, freedom of association and threat to life. Though the lawsuit might not be successful, continuous petition and subsequent appeals will create the required delays. However, the injunction will be highly respected and complied with. This is totally abuse of power and no respect for the rule of law. |
