This is the nonsense they do up North. They use electricity like no be here and always with full voltage and constant power. But to pay the bills, nah. In fact, they still find it easier to get prepaid meters than anywhere else in Nigeria.

Instead all the wàhálà is piled on users in the south of the country. They are made to pay thousands of naira for powers not supplied even as they are denied the issuance of prepaid meters ij their millions.

You mean varieties of problems? Cos that is only what he has to offer. I fell into his trap once before and got burnt.

Mind you, what you call varieties are all repaired TVs with their boards changed and probably the screens too. His LG products especially are full of aftermarket circuit boards that have been used to replace the factory boards and many functions such as HDR, UHD upscaling capacities etc will have been lost with the new replacement boards.

I was later to come across this thread by Graceglory and I wished I had found it earlier.

there comes a point in a mans life, when he places his comfort above money, you are in your house and nepa strikes by 2am, and temperature is high, unless you are among the mega rich in nigeria with unlimited money, then you could have a huge soundproof diesel gen with automatic start/changeover...so it kicks in automatically, but the avg nigerian will either endure the heat, or have to go out and turn on the noisy petrol gen disturbing the nebos + announcing or providing cover for robbers.

and even if you analyse it thoroughly, solar/renewable energy is far cheaper than running gens and even grid. most solar setups pay for itself after 2 to 3 yrs maximum..

Personally I still think a mega rich opting for a massive sound proof diesel gen for his home in Nigeria is being naira wise, kobo foolish. The reason is @ the bolded.

I am still one of the impoverished class of the society grin

but if by chance I become mega rich in Nigeria today, (whistles), chai I will make sure I get small solar set ups for every home of the poor in my street. What is the sense in getting a humongous diesel gen when it's not that I'm powering a factory and running after expensive diesel when I can afford the quite life of the sun.

Solar is so sweet that it is a thing of joy to see people join the bandwagon of AE.

On the average, 2 years in Nigeria to recoup your investment if you consider the cost of cooking gas and have been able to upgrade to systems that can support induction cookers especially on sunny days.

Is there anyone in the House who knows about conversion of Petrol Engine to Electric ?
My problem is how to convert my Petrol Car Engines to run on Electric (not looking to buy off the shelf Electric Vehicles).
Like we did for home use, l want to be able to use flexible (and even if not flexible) Solar Panels on the Roof of my car and let it harness juice when l park it in the Sun. I also want to be able to load the bot with LifePo4 cells, as much as l want.

I have heard snippets of people who convert Petrol Engines to use Gas or even turn it to EV but there is a serious knowledge gap on how to do it.

You're not the only one that has seriously been considering that. Good thing is that EV is about the easiest thing to do although the efficiency may not be top notch if you're to convert existing ICEs to EVs. The former are usually heavier than new EVs with their uni body construction, something which ensures that as much as 400 auto parts are done away with, including bolts, screws etc.

And I don't believe there is knowledge gap in Nigeria as it pertains to EVs especially in the most basic iterations of it. The minds on this thread alone are brilliant enough to DIY EVs if the conditions and atmosphere are eased, conditions like procuring batteries for example . There is a video of a Hausa man who has converted his fleets of small transport buses to EVs and given it out to drivers who come to charge it in his massive solar shed. With full charge, it drives for 5 hrs (they didn't give estimates in Kilometers)

Let me just chip this in. I produce excess solar electricity for the appliances that I have at the moment. So wify just woke up one day and suggested that the excess be channelled into making cold products for outside consumption. Mind you, this street and many adjoining ones have been suffering in the hands of NEPA for ages. Ńa so she rent one shop not far from the building, we come extend armoured cables to the place, purchase freezers, start Ice block, packaged water, soft drinks etc. People travel kilometers to this place just to get chilled products including ice blocks. If you make around 90k profit monthly on iced block alone, calculate how much in a year. Then come add bags of chilled packaged water sold on daily basis.

It's one year now and she has recouped thrice the money she spent in getting two deep freezers and a fridge.

Me I come dey look myself say I no think deep say I fit still make money from my power; all along what I kept thinking about was how to keep increasing my power generation, but ńa wify come think better thing for me. Two correct heads are indeed better than one.

But AC, that calculation for inverter is misleading,

Let me elaborate abit,
An inverter and regular AC uses exactly same wattage no different 1 HP is 1 HP in terms of power.

Now the advantages of inverter over regular AC
1. No High/surge starting current.
2. DC compressor meaning you can reduce speed = reduce power consumption.
3. Can work with low voltage.

So in the real sense in terms of power, you are not really saving anything with inverter AC Just saving the your inverter from surge startup.

That's because, if it takes 5 hours to cool a room with 2 HP AC, your inverter can cool it in like 4- 4.5 hours but consumption is still the same.
And when you engage energy saving. Lol, it's like slowing your can from 100mph to 50mph,
You will get to your destination but at a longer time doesn't mean you have save fuel. Same goes with inverter AC when you engage energy saving on a 2HP Ac you just turn it to 1.5HP or 1HP.
Meaning if 2HP cool in 5 hours, 1HP would be 10+ hours.

So has energy being saved?

Firstly, the surge component of the regular compressor consumes their own fair share of the available power, a disadvantage clearly lacking in inverter devices.

The surges can rate as high as trice to five times the running power. So you can have as high as 3kw for a 1.2kw regular compressor. No matter how transient that surge is, it impacts your battery storage and if you closely monitor your battery while it is both in either inverter device or the regular ones, you'll notice some differences in the backup. You'll notice these differences too if you use municipal power supply where consumption is correctly calculated. But you can also use a smart plug like the Tuya Smart plugs to also calculate these differences.

The inverter devices as you rightly agreed lack that surge/massive draw, hence you save that transient high power consumption.

Secondly, inverter devices aren't just for the name and not just to reduce the power, but for specific scenarios where power wastages will occur. Your regular compressor keeps working at the SAME power rating even when your desired ambient conditions have been attained. That's like keeping your tap running even after your bucket is full. There's no sense in keeping the tap running when the receptacle is full. Worst part is that even though the thermostat regulator kicks in to mimic the working pattern of the inverter counterpart, it still ends up consuming more because of the frequent surge-accompanied startups.

Your inverter device ramps down the speed of the compressor and therefore consumption of power once the desired ambient conditions are achieved. Hence for a closed room where the internal temperature is kept well insulated from the outside warmer temperature, your inverter AC gives you true value for your buck.

Of course, in a situation where you have frequent mix of the internal and external temperature conditions like in frequent opening and closing of the room doors or of the freezer, the compressor appropriately ramps up speed and work to attain/keep the preset ambient conditions, hence inverter or not, it ends up doing as much work as your regular compressor will do, ditto the power consumed.

Na the installation go get problem sha. It has to be installed at a much higher level than the average regular panels and placed on a reflective/white surface in order to get the max out of it.

All the items on AE that shows you DHL free delivery in the delivery options are scam items put up by scam pages

I'm not sure it is like that in every case. The seller may have added the actual DHL charges to the total price of the item and therefore put "free shipping" against the DHL. It doesn't mean that the shipping method is fake in such cases.

Mind you, majority of the items (Expedited shipping or even the regular shopping methods) that you see free shipping against may not actually be shipped for free. The seller will have added the shipping price to the item price, so buyers are always excited to click such items when they see "free shipping" written against it.

To my surprised a second item of mine was shipped late yesterday night with same fake DHL tracking number and just like the first one the seller isn't responding to messages and also the store has no products displayed.
What's the status of your dispute from AliExpress, have ruled in your favour?

I won the dispute since there was no response from the seller. Sadly though, I'm not sure which of the banks I used to do the purchase for me to follow up on the refund because of the idiosyncrasies of some Nigerian banks to effect an approved refund into customers' accounts.

But I'll sha try my best to watch out for any small credit via text message.

A year plus and not much to add. I initially added the whole 600amps Ritar bank back and used it like that for about 3- 4 months, then took 200amps out to use somewhere else. About a week ago, I took another 200amps out. I noticed the ones I took out recently were weak BUT fairly much like the present state of their colleagues I took out of the bank about a year ago. The last 2 Ritar is still paired with the Lithium and still meeting my needs as my household needs have reduced a bit.
So that is it. Union of unlikely bedfellows.

Well done. Experience they say is the best. There are standards, but at times one may get away with working against the norm.

And who says the norm is strictly the standard anyways, and who says that the seemingly "abnormal" may not even turn out to be quite useful.

I think a seller did this to me. A DHL tracking is assigned to my package, its been 4 days now and no tracking information available went to the store but no any other item on display.
I'll file for dispute after the 11th day.

This is exactly the same scenario with mine.

So wait till day 11 "post shipping" to open dispute.

I think since you now have better and stronger reason for dispute (better than the initial complaint that the screen didn't power on), yiu should just make a video and file a dispute. Then search again for other sellers who have it in stock and go thru the comments to see how people rate the screen purchased from them to make sure the ratings are positive. Then hope that your new purchase will equally come out as good.

It is evidently a no show. Since the tracking number appears invalid (used previously) I messaged the seller about 5 days ago but he has yet to reply or even read the message sef, as in the message is still marked as "unread".

I also tried to revisit the product page but got the reply that the product is no longer available. The store is still available though, but I doubt it will be for long.

So I decide I'm gonna file dispute but I will have to wait for 10 days Post-shipping duration to have a permission to do that. Today makes the 6th day after shipping.

So I finally filed a dispute for this. And expectedly the seller did not even oppose it until his chance to reply ran out. Apparently the seller has even disappeared or closed the shop as I suspected. So AE arbitrate in my favour.

So that's it folks. It's been a cool trial ride though my gamble didn't really pay off.
