Below are some of the sad responses from readers (Nigerian readers of course): • They'll eventually pay, you guys should take it easy, must you strike on everything? after all you still receive salary every month. Nigerians and money....My take: •••• So why make hasty conclusions on these volunteers and even picking on them as the enemies? And being fully aware of what "volunteer" means, why do some uninformed/ill-informed, sentiment-driven Nigerians decide "to treat the ringworm, but sparing the leprosy in the process"? The government knows that things will most likely play out in this manner (of being spared of the blame) as it has always happened before where they as the culprit are never held responsible for their inaction. That is why they are willing to take the gamble once again and luckily, it's gonna be a good gamble. To the millions of Nigerians still groping in their self-imposed darkness, always choosing to hang Jesus in place of Barnabas, perhaps you should think of the following: 1. With an imminent threat to public health safety in the grades of Liberia, Congo and Guinea following the importation of the deadly disease into the country by Sawyer, the government came out to announce that volunteers for "Patrick Sawyer's disease (my own contraption) containment team should sign up, with an AGREEMENT of a FIXED amount of between 40,000 to 50,000 naira per shift as inducement and compensation for a SUICIDE MISSION. They even went as far as promising life insurance, but we all know where our pension funds end even while alive let alone in death. Most health workers dismissed the offer on account of trust issues, having just come out of an episode of HABITUAL GOVERNMENT FAILED AGREEMENT. They even don't wanna discuss it. That's how bad it was. Note that the morale of these foot soldiers (doctors) had just been dampened, therefore any attempts to successfully mobilize them for another definite suicidal mission will only require a miracle. Some particularly mentioned that even if the government ups the offer to 1 million naira per shift, they wouldn't accede their call for sacrifice based on trust issues - provision of PPEs and a FAKE LIFE INSURANCE claim. 2. Following this plea, Nigerians were quick to echo their insincere government in calling for "volunteers" from the health sector, equally citing the monetary that comes with the suicide mission as "mouth-watering" enough. They even commended the government for such initiative as the life insurance cover even though it's still on paper and very unlikely to see the light of the day. 3. Aside from the clinical aspect, most of the required works at these isolation centres are unskilled - cleaners for example - therefore I'd expected many Nigerians including those who see EVD volunteers work as the exact dictionary meaning of "volunteer" to have signed up, more so that many of them are job seekers and the remuneration is above the roof. I even hoped against hope that the health minister and Lagos state health commissioner will both don the Hamzat suit in the name of leading by example even if it's just to call journalists, stage a media hype and have them take pictures of him standing outside the compound of the isolation centres wearing the suit. But I'm surprised that they've rather chosen to hide behind the curtains and cast aspersions on the chivalric volunteers for demanding the PITTANCE promised for the suicide mission from the government. 4. Even the "oyinbos" that coined the word "volunteer" know better to use their discretion in its use. The practice is for volunteers to be paid a stipend - an amount not commensurate with the service they offer. Doctors-without-borders is a voluntary international setup, yet the volunteers get their promised stipend AS AT WHEN DUE. And I honestly think 40k is not too much a stipend for a day full of risk for a man and his families, and even you that you that's reading this - talking of how this EVD spreads. After all and unjustifiably so, your senators collect more as daily hazard-free sitting allowance in the chambers. Also remember that the two American doctors working as volunteers for Samaritans' purse (itself a voluntary organisation) get stipends and they were not neglected by their government in their most hour of need and vulnerability when they too got infected. That's the type of government that earns the respect and trust of its citizens, enough to invoke sacrificial patriotism in such citizens.

Tundeiab: didn't your OBJ write a stupid letter to GEJ which was meant to indict him? Did he mention that in his letter ? Any way I saw the letter as a last stroke at redemption from a failed leader.Yeah, lemme guess the purpose - balkanization of the country, impoverishment of it's citizens and the last but not the least, nurturing of corruption. |
poiZon: so where obj from, no be southwest. And who jailed Bode George? Who gave him presidential pardon? CLUE TO ANSWER NUMBER 2: The person who pardoned Alams. So what's your argument now? And by the way, by "West", he means western nations, not western Nigeria. But of course your "poiZoned" mind motivated bias and prejudice. |
Sincere9gerian: I hope your leader, Tinubu, is recuperating in the world class hospital he travelled to abroad, of course at the expense of the tax paying and long suffering Lagosians? |
drsteroid: I believe Nigeria is winning this war against ebola. This is one of Goodluck's major achievement as a president.kudos 2 him,our honourable Minister of health n Nigerians. If we support d govt in other aspects of d economy just as we all supported in the management of ebola,d country wil be beta 4 all 2 livWhat?! And you got 6 likes for this? FYI, EVD isn't the only viral haemorrhagic disease present in Nigeria, so don't think that now that Chuckwu ASSUMES Ebola is being "contained", we're home and dry. Lassa Fever is NATIVE TO NIGERIA. 5 (five) doctors and nurses lost their lives to the latest Lassa outbreak last year. One ISOLATION UNIT for highly contagious diseases like EVD, Lassa and others COSTS 20 (TWENTY) MILLION NAIRA EACH. one in each federal government health establishment can save thousands of other lives. 2015 Toyota Prado costs 25 million naira each. Bullet proof variant cost 50 million naira. Chukwu's discretion and economic sense has him listing cars as priority in his list of preference while placing Nigerian lives (your life included), disease prevention and preparedness (lack of which caused EVD outbreak in Nigeria in the first instance) as number 10 (ten) on his list of preference. Yet in your most "sincere9gerian" and "patriotic" sense, you believe your response above is the most appropriate. Is Chukwu per chance your uncle or you've tendered a contract application to the ministry of health as one of the suppliers of the car? I ask those cos those are the only logical reasoning, albeit vain and faux, for your line of response to this evident onslaught on the sense of Nigerians. Sincere9gerian: What is wrong with this minister of health? Why not use the funds to set up world class isolation centres with well trained staff for hemorrhagic diseases or other highly infectious deadly diseases in select existing FG tertiary hospitals? Why not use part of the funds to support research on ebola and other hemorrhagic diseases? What about procurement of adequate barrier nursing tools and PPE in the existing in the hospitals? This minister should better get his acts together. I guess the minister made this pronouncement because he feels the current outbreak of ebola has been effectively contained, but while that maybe true, we should begin now to prepare for the next outbreak of ebola, other hemorrhagic diseases or any other highly infectious and deadly disease. We should be proactive for once.On a second though and having read thru "sincere9gerian's" posts of late, I tender my most sincere apologies to him/her for using his/her moniker as reference to analyse a faux citizen. "Drsteriod" has just taken the centre stage in the hall of infamy, so "sincere9gerian" humbly take a bow. <thinking out loud> although I still could not help but believe that sudden change is probably because the paid piper's money has stopped coming. ![]() |
One can always correctly predict faux citizens who are more of self-annihilators than patriots.

strangest: that list should include my ex gf, if she wan cum, she will grab me on the neck, almost strangling me Baddestguyp: leave her before she finally kills you o. this is attempted murderReally, I think his best bet next time is to do it the octopus way. Just go in, leave your p3n1s inside her and ruin before she grabs your neck and strangulate you to death. You can thank me later. |
Mickey7: Did you get authorisation to use that tittle from the writer of "The Lying Game"? If no,do you know it's a criminal offence to use other people's book or film title without adequate authorisation?child you had better change that titleLiar! |
maayha: I boarded d same taxi with beyonce ds morningYeah. And I'm the president of the United states. I'm just using this moniker as a cover to surf and comment on Nairaland. |
lrguru: This doctors are just being pathetic, resident doctors are fired, and they remained fired. In your dreams. The sack is a misnomer which is already dead on arrival. We'll see who blinks first and boy will I be so eager to see the contorted dismay on your face when you are finally proven wrong. |
mcino: Since doctors are this corrupt, they should neither be made CMDs nor ministers of health. After all, they are not the only people in the health sector.Dora Akunyili was over qualified to be made minister of health, but the corrupt doctors made sure it was given to another thief - Adenike Grange. Continue and may be a good thing will come out of this. That's so unfair a judgement on her. Grange actually was an upright woman that was set-up by the corrupt thieves in the ministry because she would not tolerate their vices. Today, I'm glad she maintained her stand even though she lost her job. And as for Akunyili, she's a woman i admire so much. I revere her so much for her stoicism and honesty and she'd be disappointed in you for dragging her name into the dirty terrain of ethnic and professional sentimentalism. |
Morotov1: I am not trying to extol corruption but to let the sleeping dogs and lions alone until the current NMA issue has been sorted out.Well.... |
Morotov1: I am not trying to extol corruption but to let the sleeping dogs and lions alone until the current NMA issue has been sorted out.Well.... |
Morotov1: Doctors have had a lot of bashing already, so bringing in these case of fraud against your colleague who happens to be the minister ........aaahhh, with the posts I think it is not going down well. Some secrets cannot be hidden. Bad deeds should be discouraged as much as possible no matter whose ox is gored. We've had very good health ministers in Prof. Eyitayo Lambo, Adenike Grange, and Prof Olikoye Ransom Kuti (a medical doctor). So if chukwu has issues of questionable integrity hanging over him which will mostly hinder him from making positive decisions in administration, then it's only reasonable that he gives way to someone with a clean record who has his/her integrity to protect. |
omotfavy: .Imagine,d corruption of this Drs dat has turned d post of a medical director to their family title, dats d more reason dey shld allow other health professionals to go for d post.Yes nau. So that they too can chop their own. Let me be honest with you. By the time johesu gets that approval, assassinations, fetishness and diabolical methods will be the other of the day among the members to attain that position. However, one place where you guys can come in is this: These CMDs have penchant for quelling protests from doctors because they have the "tactics" and the "fear factor" for their (CMDs') constituency. This leaves the johesu as a viable alternative to checking the excesses of these CMDs and rightly so, these CMDs recognise johesu more when it comes to protangonist to their wicked ways in the hospital. Now that is one significant input that you can make which will earn you guys so much respect from the rest of the hospital staff, not by trying to create more problems for everyone including yourselves. Remember that once they get to that positions, these CMDs are no more doctors but politicians who won't hesitate to "_fuck" a doctor up. Same scenario is gonna play out when your johesuite gets there. |
Chanchit: I don't know what to even say to this ur "dnt wash ur dirty linens in public" comment, where is the public..? Is he not a Nigerian..?Thank you jare. I wonder this kind of warped belief that we should cover up the bad deeds of people cos of ethnic, religious, political or even familial association. His statement above is a seriously flawed definition of "not washing your dirty linen in public". It simply engenders continuation of the bad deed. Morotov1: I presumed the poster is a doctor. So if he come be doctor nko, make him pat am for back say "weldone chukwu, go on packing the money". And I believe you'd be the first to equally castigate the OP for "protecting his guilty colleague" had he painted chukwu as a saint despite the allegations. Such hypocrisy!!! |
Deepfreezer: nobody should mention GEJ in this matter oo. GEJOfficial: Thank you brotherIs this some sick joke or something? Abeg if na play you dey play make you stop am o. Anyway I believe it's just a joke cos no sane individual will in his right mind make this statement and seconded by another. ![]() |
Henrypraise: Now des ar d kind of pple dat deserve national awards, not politicians. Asked whether doctors go on strike in Germany, one of our German collaborators in the Institute of Lassa Fever Research and Control, ISTH, Irrua answered. "Oh no. When doctors have issues government as a matter of priority resolves them urgently. Where there is a delay, other citizens embark on protests and if necessary strike while the doctors remain in the hospitals to take care of sick citizens and the emergencies that may result from the protest or the strike action embarked upon by the good citizens". What do we have in Nigeria? In spite of the fact that most strikes by doctors are in their interest with a view to improving healthcare delivery, they ridicule, criticize and insult the doctors. They are more comfortable with business as usual than positive change. Really, "was there ever a country" at anytime?

QMark: I support this movement. Withdraw until you get well equipped. While risking sounding like a broken record or veering off a little, I'll want to make mention that if the same positive attitude and goodwill displayed here for the soldiers are extended to the lecturers, doctors and even any Nigerian health worker who downs tools for improvement in service delivery, our leaders will be more afraid of us and will always dance to the dictates of the electorates whom they took an oath to serve, not fattening their own pockets and bank accounts. The Caucasians are always on the side of the labour in any labour-government face-off and rightly so. The truth is that government given a free hand will want every Nigerian to work without been paid. I read this few days ago. Asked whether doctors go on strike in Germany, one of our German collaborators in the Institute of Lassa Fever Research and Control, ISTH, Irrua answered. "Oh no. (The Doctor NEVER had Ebola. World Health Organization & U.S. FDA Issued Confidential Warning Against Nigerian Health Minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu, For Spreading Rumours Of False Ebola Cure. --Attorney Patryk UtuluCulled from facebook My take. The rebuke on Mr. Minister is right considering it's misinformation to the public Considering the fact that EVD patients have little chance of survival, trying nanosilver, even if it will fail, should be attempted. |
Now with this new twist to this story that Patrick sawyers' sister who succumbed to the EVD was engaged to be married to a Nigerian man and who later dumped her due to her status, it makes it easier to ASSUME that Sawyer was on a revenge mission. More so that he himself caught the bug while taking over the Nigerian fiancé's "job" of caring for her. So could he have decided to visit his wrath on Nigeria cos of the runaway "Nigerian fiancé". Which better way to payback, right? "These Nigerians wanna keep on getting all the good stuffs right, well I got news for 'em and I'm gonna f/uck 'em up real bad", I ponder if he had these thoughts in him. http://peacebenwilliams.com/ebolaoutbreak-open-letter-to-patrick-sawyers-wife-decontee-sawyer/ DearDecontee Sawyer,This "fleeing man" could have just disappeared into somewhere safe in Liberia. Even if he ran back to Nigeria, that shouldn't have been enough reasons to risk 160 million more lives. What's your opinion on this "theory"?
|
Now with this history of Sawyer's sister that succumbed to the EVD being engaged to be married to a Nigerian man and who later fled and abandoned his fiancée upon discovering her status, one could easily ASSUME that Patrick Sawyer was on a revenge mission. More so that he himself got infected by his sister when he decided to take over her care - "expectedly" the job of the Nigerian fiance, it's easy for him to have pinned all the blames for his own exposure on the "fleeing Nigerian" So the question is if the Nigerian fled back to Nigeria or simply disappeared into somewhere within Liberia. [quote]DearDecontee Sawyer, I am moved to write you this letter based onyour recent openletterdefending why your husband decided to infest Nigeria with the fatal Ebola virus. I had refrained from penning my thoughts on how irresponsible your husband’s behaviour was, mainly because he was a human being who had a right to life like myself and also becausehe had left loved ones like you and his children behind who miss him everyday. However, your recent letter has convinced me that you deserve no pity whatsoever and has prompted me to enlighten you on what you seem to have so deliberately ignored. You and your husband are full-fledged citizens of the UnitedStates of America. Everybody knows that the medical system in the United States is far more advanced than that of Nigeria. So if your husband’s sole intention was to seek medical help, why did he not contact the health authorities in the America? Nigeria does not have the best health care system in Africa and that is a fact. If you and your husband were reading the news, you’d have known that a lot of Nigerians travel to South Africa, India and the UK for medical attention. I’m stressing this fact for non-Nigerians who may not understand how the system in my country works. No Nigerian would take your callous excuse with a pinch of salt! You had the nerve to apologise to your friends, Catherine and Josh for “contacting them so early.” But you didn’t deem it fit to pay your condolences to the family of the two nurses who died from caring for your sick husband? What about the ECOWAS staff who died because he had primary contactwith your husband while helping him in Lagos? Did they also not “have a passion for life”? Do youthink these people wanted to take a chance with their lives when they knew their loved onesalso depended on them? |
reindeer: To your little mind. Unfortunately many are like you without any idea what happens beyond their street.Don't be surprised if he fails to engage in simple discus but instead comes back to hurl invectives at you. I take extra caution when I'm around his type. |
warrior01: what a great relief! After all, most Nigeria doctors are utterly useless. imagine some of them denying their profession and others tending their resignation letters just because they heard Ebola is in town. Thank God for the able agbo sellers70 likes and counting. Well I got news for all 71, private clinics, except maybe Aso rock "private" clinic, are considering making the strike total. So let's all save money enough to access health services in neighbouring countries, or maybe on other continents for the few of us here that gets paycheck from Aso rock. For those who believe in herbs and/ "holy paraphernalia, now may be a time to strengthen your faith. I actually also feel bad for those that have gone a long way in medical school. You can still return as direct entry student to other disciplines. For prospective Jambites hoping to fill medicine as your course of study, please think of something else (except of course you're David Mark's child meaning you can afford private university. Your teachers have all been sacked. |
Yes ke! Eventually sacked . I even thought it wasn't gonna be on Nairaland as I refreshed pages repeatedly to get the topic. The LAST NIGERIAN DOCTORS will forever remain the ones that defied government insensitivity to the health sector and it's physicians. Meanwhile private hospitals that had hitherto worked and those that responded to emergency kano bomb blasts have decided to down tools. Let's pray we won't fall ill before May 2015 so that we won't be needing them. ![]() |

When Sanusi stopped banking malpractices in the habit of illegal deductions and unnecessary ATM charges, the banks cried that it was gonna impact negatively on them but alas, to the relieve of Nigerians, things seems to get better with ATM transactions. Exit Sanusi, enter Whathisname. These banks again lobbied with all they have, apparently including but not exclusively monetary means and now to the chagrin of helpless Nigerians, diplomacy is once again giving way to dictatorship in the banking sector. The status quo was apparently favouring both sides, so why fix it if it ain't broken? People, this may just be the tip of the iceberg with a new chief in town. Harder policies may be in the pipeline. So brace yourselves for the impact. |
cuteboy2: I am really sad an appalled at how brazen people will sieze any national situation to score cheap political points and disparage the federal govt all because of the mad quest to wrest power from GEJ. Of all the national emergencies I have witnessed in Nigeria, FGN response to the Ebola threat stands out as the best so far in terms of:Aaaaaand let me use facts (equally bing-able/google-able of course) to puncture the false claims aimed at exonerating the FG. Pls forgive me (and i mean it) if this rejoinder further compounds your sadness and appals. Here goes: cuteboy2: 1. The speed of FGN response was very good immediately the first case was reported. In a nation where it is very difficult to track the movement of people, the immediate identification and quanrantine of all those who came in contact with what is termed in medical parlance as the "index case" (the Liberian victim Mr Sawyer) was really commendable. In every outbreak of epidemic this step is always pivotal in stemming further infections.Your claim about the FGN is FALSE and you proudly utter this falsity. LASG been the epicentre was until few days ago at the forefront of containing it's spread. It's in their domain already and every effort should be summoned immediately while waiting on your "FGN" and other assisting bodies. The "FGN" expectedly came in the picture to roll with LASG about 72 hours after the index case was confirmed. There's a thread on Nairaland showing pictures of the extraction team from LASG/WHO, not the "FGN" And Ohh, I'm so intimidated by your seeming knowledge of "medical parlance" and I wanna think several other forumites are equally flabbergasted by your fluent use of the word "index case" (pun unintended). Psychology says that such strategy as the use of high-falloting words like Obahiagbon (he speaks the truth in his own case sha) does is a means to convince your listeners/readers before hand and to garner some credibility to whatever you wanna say from that point onwards, even if it's not the truth. So you try well well my brada. cuteboy2: 2. setting up of quarantine centres to treat those infected. An ideal quarantine centre would have been a place where suspected carriers are properly monitored, provided with comfort and adequate feeding hence all contacts with other people are strictly ensured. However, the matron (RIP) was "quarantined at her home". Now her immediate families are RUMOURED to be infected (I sincerely hope it's not true). "Home quarantine" is what the LASG and FG has been up to. And please before you go all "proper quarantine is an expensive thing to do" over me, I reiterate here that this country has the wherewithal for that. This country's got MAAANEY (kudi), expertise (there have to be supplies o) and a willing and well informed public to help curb the spread. But the politicians will rather "wait it out" to fizzle away, except of course any Ebola intervention fund is gonna be made available for channelling to their own pockets. cuteboy2: 3. Health minister's Collaboration and coordination of plans with State govts, especially the South West states.[/qoute] While I believe this to be true, the efforts from every government stakeholder has not been optimal in my opinion, given the current emergency.Obviously you're not well informed. The strike is yet to be suspended.cuteboy2:I won't dispute this. I think that's the picture. Something which I hope they'll keep up. But I'm shocked that the Punch newspaper that sees it as a noble social responsibility to apprise the public on a scourge with significant public health impact has now invited vilification from you for doing such. But here you are, proudly misinforming the public on the state of things - such insensitivity! cuteboy2: All state chapters of NMA are cooperating fully Federal and State Govt health officials except Lagos chapter. If other state chapters behave like this how will the effort succeed? It's true that all state chapters of the NMA are trying as much as possible to lend their support to the various tiers of government as evidenced by their press release urging the govt to provide PPEs and to be clear on the terms and conditions of their much touted "life insurance". And no, you're wrong about Lagos state NMA being uncooperative for the reason given earlier - the meeting. Permit me to give this point. An isolation unit for highly infectious diseases like ebola costs 20million naira apiece. Therefore there's no reason for every govt hospital to own at least one unit that may turn out to save the life of millions of Nigerians. Pray tell, how much does a bullet proof vehicle cost? Okay let's bring it down - how much is it for a 2015 Toyota Prado SUV (commonly driven by the politicians)? cuteboy2: Even this demand has been met. They are just demanding for documents.Perhaps you think it wise to rely on mere words of promise when dealing with an uncaring government. However wiser men think otherwise, hence the need for pen-on-paper (which of course the govt still have the habit of dishonouring. So I hope I've been able to paint to the esteemed readers and wise forumites the true picture of things which contrasts clearly with what one of us is proudly propagating. |
Tundeiab: my brother na "BAD BELLEISM" at its peak. God pass them. No be by force make Nigerian men dey admire h fellow men n.yash.Pause to think if the American leaders and politicians are not patriotic. They are and that is why things work there. This in turn motivates the citizens to love their country that is ready to take care of them and protect them. But what do you have in Nigeria? Your leaders try everything possible to show that they care less about the citizens. So where is the motivation? Why are many of our soldiers absconding and abandoning their posts? Why has mutiny taken a seat next to our once respected, ECOMOG-strength armed forces? The answers to these are so obvious. Corruption! The trillions budgeted for equipment and weapons get channelled into few pockets. |
