9jalyte: We do not need any support from any country, we can! in fact they should stop insulting us with those petty grants. Over the years they have been giving, what great change has taken place with those. peopleIn fact I'm so so so glad that you brought up the question in bold. While you may be right in some aspects as the ECOMOG being neutralised (it's not a secret anyway), you however got it wrong in other aspects. But like I said, your question is in itself the possible answer to the US' behaviour on this one, even though it may not be out rightly stated to be so. But the truth is that given the current state of affairs in our military where the soldiers are poorly kitted despite the trillions of naira budgeted in the military, Obama might just have known that the 110 million dollars will definitely not get to where it's intended. It has always been the modus operandi of our politicians to divert foreign aids and grants meant for Nigerians into few pockets. |
chamboy: If it caused by a trailer, I know who d blood is on |
1stola: As a Laboratory Technologist, I am still willing to help... I have written to many top government health agencies through their website and still waiting on their response. It's unfortunate you are in Nigeria where dreams are killed, visions destroyed and talents frustrated. The political class will not be willing to help you on this. Matter of fact, you can get grants from international agencies but i tell you that of such grants are to be forwarded thru Nigerian agencies, someone somewhere will ask you for a "cut" as if na chop you wan chop the money. I honestly don't know what advice to give you on this as Nigeria is bedevilled with corrupt, selfish and visionless leaders that will fail to see the good you wanna do. |
sinceden2: Am sure not all of us know what this selfie means, please can some one tell us what is means? Becos trully me I don't know what it is.A selfie in action (with the phone), albeit with some other events. Are you okay now? So now your post-test question: * In short words, describe what you understand by a selfie? Diagrammatic illustration will earn you extra marks. And please quote the question when give the answer. Ensure it's posted on every Nairaland thread today starting with this. This way you should be able to shame the forumites that you're not dumb contrary to popular opinions.

kobonaire: I wish Skekau will wake up today and also decide to take a gun selfie of his fügly face...... And heavens please make him to absent-mindedly leave the safety off. cirmuell: i was ashamed when one took a selfie in a Cab yesterday. In my mind I was like "what's the caption gonna be, my dad's ride?"A lady, is it? It'll probably read "Taking a cab for the first time in my life. I've always used my own car" ![]() |
Of course those who know how to use firearms safely would probably never pose with one aimed at their head. Even if it was unloaded.Yes ke! Wisdom profiteth. ![]()

dominique: Did he just enter the country or he has always been there? Why do they have to take the blood all the way to Senegal (about 6 countries away) for testingI believe they know what they're doing. Sending the sample into Nigeria their closest neighbour for screening has its diplomatic disadvantages since the patient is Nigerian. The result could be doctored as "negative". Have you ever wondered why the flight manifest of the plane boarded by Patrick Sawyer to Nigeria has remained "missing"? |
mamarika: I sincerely pray that God will help this situation, the truth is Nigeria does not have what it takes curb this disease "I mean personnel Απϑ facilities"Now this is not good. They're trying to be vigilant enough, trying to be responsible for public health and safety in their own little way. However the govt with the financial resources are nowhere to be found to ensure proper quarantine. 30 days hotel accommodation is no small joke for most Nigerians. So what would've happened if they couldn't afford the money for that lengthy period? I honestly hope they are spared. |
mployer: what sense exactly are you making? That staying at home is all the doctors can offer? Stay at home and wait for ebola to come and wipe out you and your family because you have issues with the government? How is that different from suicide. A lot of us are educated but still with little brain. I am not a fan of the government but this issue is beyong government palava. Ebola is not programmed to kill only government officials, everybody is a potential victim. I know the government is not doing the best but doctors has something to contribute as our concerned brothers. They should start by being available first. I mean call off the strike. They are not dealing with the government, they are failing us. We show them much respect in the society, treated them like kings on campus but this is the reward we get. Please take government out of this, the doctors have failed us. In the previous news, they were demanding for special number plate so we can recognise them in an accident scene, of what use is that recognition to us when they are not ready to offer the least of help. It is all about feeding their over-bloated ego and demanding more cash Its a shame and highest point of greed and ignorance. Thank God ebola doesnt know who a doctor is. Lets watch. dumodust: he is making sense and he itemised his points well while u set off on an emotional trip quoting the usual greed etc, an arguement devoid of objectivity.Thank you o my brother for your contribution. I already gave up as I don't know how else to politely clarify things for people. |
I fear for my favourite network provider. No surprise that I've had to endlessly battle poor data connection and dropped calls in the past few months. According to Sources''A circular went round all major South African agencies warning about not doing business with a "Gloww... in Nigeria" because several agencies are being owed by them. This information has been successfully managed and circulating only within the system until the owing culture encroached into the fees of entertainers/actors". First, it was the shocker of cutting down the agreed annual ambassador's fee. Many got as much as N5million taken off their fees and they include Chioma Apotha,Basketmouth,Funke Akindele,Ini Edo and Desmond Elliott. Some are being owed after tours tagged 'S andB' and 'L festival' which held as far back as 8 months ago Some of those being owed are MI,Okey bakassi,Seyilaw,Lynxx,Omobaba,Bash,Wande Coal,Naeto C,Bovi,Frank D Don,All the suppliers for sound, light,DJ JimmyJatt et al''. When Alcatel of France dumped them, they shifted to Hawei,a Chinese company Which explains the Network drop in quality ''Their staff too feels the pinch of low cash flow as the travel allowance is by far the lowest in the the telecommunications industry. A company once Known for its attractive salary package now pays graduates in customer care 80k,slashed from the original N250K that they used to pay.'' Insiders also allege that None of their staff has health insurance and there is No general standard for housing loan or allowance. There is No spouse benefits like airtime for your wife or husband, Something practiced by all other telecommunications outfit in the country. ''A senior Manager gets only N6k credit monthly and any thing else spent after that is deducted from his salary. While many of their staff are exiting daily enmasse, artistes are now getting skeptical about signing on to the brand as ambassadors and those in the know are requesting for upfront payment for shows from now on. Their is "building Africas biggest and best network" right?.Well Ghana is almost dead and there is no plan in sight to go to any other African country years after the claim of building Africa's biggest and best network.. So the question is ...WHAT IS HAPPENING?People, is this really true? I can't bear watching another of our own go down. I'm still hurting from HITV's demise. |
dumodust: try to look for gloves in a nigerian hospital, someone will either be hoarding it or eat the money allocated. we are not prepared for the ebola that has been ravaging west african countries for a while now. we dont have enough gear and facilities for barrier care. your government is a jokeBut really it's the case in Nigeria with its odd peculiarities. You fight the government for the good of all, yet the same people you're in the same boat together (disadvantaged masses) take sides with their own enemy against you, meanwhile the same people in government laugh behind them and fly to India with the slightest headache, leaving them to continue the squabbles at their own detriment. Three days ago when the news rent the air that the female doctor that attended to Sawyer is infected, the response of a ward maid was disheartening. She plainly said that may that ebola kill her and that if the doctor is given 200k qs hazard allowance, that will not be enough to motivate them to see an Ebola case. However she forgot that a hazard allowance of 5k had hitherto not stopped them from risking exposure to worse infections. Funny enough, few moments later, this same maid placed a phone call to a paediatrician to complain about her ill daughter. Funny, ain't it? |
1234kkkk: Ordinary diagnose they can't do, Chief Gani Fawehenmi was wrongly diagnosed by these dregs Nigerians Doctors of pneumonia and treated for the same ailment at LUTH. After two years ,a London Hospital diagnosed him of cancer. The only thing they can diagnose is increment in call duty allowance, increment in shift allowance, increment in dress allowance and to fight other medical workers as if they are special. After all, they equally patronize India for medical treatment. They should continue with the strike, at least their private hospitals are benefiting from it.Hmmm. Na wa o. So much blind hate. Perhaps you'll care to read about Prof. Dora akunyili's ailment history. Bing it. But in case you'd find that difficult to do, a summary of it all is that medicine as a practice is not 100% fool proof. There are a number of factors that contribute to making health delivery effective in a any nation. Policy, funding, continuous education and equipments and facilities are a few of those. Nigerians, just like others in the developed economies have the wherewithal knowledge wise, but re-training and continuous education is what brings it at par with international best practices more so that knowledge and science is advancing daily. Another problem in this country is diagnostic facilities. Private diagnostic centres in the country has brought some improvement in that aspect but that can't guarantee the vision of health for all cos majority can't afford the high costs of such investigations. The government therefore need to equip it's hospitals with modern equipments. The issue of policy formulation is what is causing the current face-off in the health sector. Ever wonder why Cuba and India despite their economic inferiority to Nigeria boast a higher health index to Nigeria? It's mostly due to their health policy, state-of-the art facilities and to some extent continuous education and training to keep abreast of current advances in health delivery. Pls before you start to blame the health team here of not developing themselves, you should know that these things cost money. International seminars and symposiums can't be comfortably self-sponsored, hence the reason why you see international agencies like USAID, WHO etc sponsor people on such trips more so that these things are aimed at improving service delivery and efficiency of such people to the larger population thereby improving community health as the target. How committed has Nigerian government been to such cause? Lastly and more explicitly, Prof. Dora's ailment was diagnosed correctly I Nigeria and was salvageable as at then. However the foreign doctors made a different, alas a wrong diagnosis which was been managed as equally wrongly. By the time the true picture became obvious to 'em, it was a little too late. |
mployer: Foreign doctors are in Africa fighting epidemic and African doctors are seated at home in the name of strikeSmh. These foreign doctors are well taken care of by their respective governments. Nigerians are the bane of their own problems, really. Rather than shout on your leaders to act right and stop mismanaging the resources meant for all Nigerians on the few of them and their families, including medical tourism in India and the likes, you'd rather turn the barrel of your protest and insult cannons on the people you're in the same boat with. Now look at this clear cut scenario: The US in partnership with the Samaritan's purse sent in their physicians to Liberia to combat Ebola scourge. Not just the men were sent, but their families were equally sponsored down to Africa and made well comfortable. Every need was provided for - foods, clothings, security, and protective gears. However in the line of duty, they got infected. But what happened? Their responsible leaders convinced that they'd be better cared for in their home country sent air ambulance to convey them back one after the other (note that they were not packed in like sardines) for adequate management. Guess what, the two docs are improving by the day. Now come back to your backyard in Lagos, Nigeria. A doctor and a nurse working in one of the most standard private hospitals in the country got infected with same in the line of duty. The government could have done something with the immense wealth at it's disposal. Either taking that incident as a motivation to bring in Nigerian professors of virology and other brains, providing them with equipments and whatever is needed to set our own research in motion. Remember that we've recorded some breakthroughs in virology in the country thru the Human Institute of Virology at Jos, courtesy of major fundings from USAID, WHO and world bank. However, it was a hopeless case for those two infected health workers. One of them died yesterday. The other is still battling for her life. Remember that they both got infected at an international standard private hospital (usually patronised by our politicians for same reason as above) with presumably better facilities than is provided by your government in it's own hospitals. So please with the above realities, which government will you be willing to work for? And before you go on invoking "humanitarianism" and "hippocratic oath" in your defense and rejoinder, take time to ponder on why the US brought back her doctors from the humanitarian quest and why the Samaritans purse is equally considering withdrawing her workers. You can't send people to their death when you don't show that you care about them. Why has mutiny taken the seat next to our gallant soldiers being sent to fight off boko haram insurgents |
Acidosis: Shut up! If Doctors won't allow Pharmacists get PharmD degrees, then Doctors should stick to their acoustic stestoscope and syringe.Well, maybe you'll tell your fellow allied health workers (pharmacists included) to stop brandishing and hanging what isn't their trade marks on their car dashboards and rear view mirrors - the "stestoscope". Simplified - A traffic police who is a soldier wannabe displaying an army combat belt on his dashboard. And before you start ranting that the "stestoscope" and syringe isn't the exclusive preserve of the doctors (cos i know that'll surely be your next line of defence and argument), remember you threw the first "stestoscope" salvo. Meanwhile, given a flash-card scenario, what's the first thing that comes to your mind when shown a syringe, A nurse, right? And what about when flashed a card with a stethoscope drawn on it, a doctor, I guess. So that settles it. |
duni04: Very false story. None of the doctors at the infectious diseases hospital, Nigeria's equivalent of the American CDC, has volunteered to treat the Ebola patients. The only confirmed case of the disease in Nigeria is currently being handled by nurses who volunteered to do so. The doctors at the hospital have bluntly refused to attend to even the suspected cases of ebola currently in isolation at the hospital. What d'you stand to gain from barefaced lies aimed at discrediting these men? The same propaganda you embarked upon painting 'em as wicked, selfish and inconsiderate for justifiably going on strike is what you have started on again. Did you realise there was an official statement to attend to suspected and confirmed ebola infected following a meeting that was held with the LASG? And by the way, your "Nigeria equivalent of the CDC" has doctors on the team if you must know. I'm sure the uninformed masses will not swallow your lies this time cos most of them (even the nurses among its ranks) have realised josehu's weapon of propaganda of false information and have began to ignore them. So much thanks to modern media. I could have sworn you'll go on propaganda spree claiming the Lagos, Liberian, Serria Leonian and American doctors and nurses infected were not actually doctors but lab technicians or pharmacists with PharmD contrary to claims. Pls be honest for a moment, haba! So much hate!!! |
nnekamezor: I tell u ooo....D whole tin don dey scare me ooo... @GudluckIBB, @eyop and other fans on the thread. I have need for a number of tracks. I have them on my LP collection though but I'll prefer to have them in good quality, stereo digital. I had a few of them downloaded in audio format from you tube but the quality isn't encouraging and so mono channel. Funny enough I took pictures of some album covers from my LP collection few days ago hoping to show whoever cares to help that I'm in need of those albums in good quality digital, I didn't even foresee bumping into a thread with similar vision. So pls anyone, any good quality tracks you possess of these artistes will do. Eyop:Na true o. In fact with the popularity she had on Nairaland, I planned to search the internet for her face one of these days just so to satisfy my curiosity. |

Litmus: Are you people in Nigeria not scared of the possibility of Bokoharams soaking themselves in Ebola juice and going into towns to pursue and hug people ?

rigarmortis: OP, ask all the military d1ck.tators that have (mis)ruled in times past, then ask OBJ, he promised too, you know?....ask him how much he used for turn around maintenance during his rule, you can also visit the witch in the bible, like saul did, but this time, ask her to bring up mr. Eyop: Interesting...I love highlife and as a matter of fact am an 100% Old skool person and don't belong to the 21st century kind of music(musics that doesn't last maximum 6months no one hears of it again). My favourites are musics from my DRC brothers and so many other African music not necessarily Nigerian artiste. The below are some of my favourite artist that i have their albums right from the 60's till date:I have two tracks of Mbilia bel. "Boya ye" and another which I can't remember now |
Neddyogu: Viruses are unstable pathogens dat dont survive more than a few minutes outside a living susceptible cell. So a corpse poses no threat as it would most likely have undergone basic fixation before its transport to naija. If d man had died of tuberculosis, na dia yawa 4 gas!The infection can still be contracted from a dead corpse for up to 60 (sixty, iri-isi) days. |
drchingy: This is good enough for meWhile it's good enough, they need to be careful and smart in dealing with or having agreements with the government. Most of the outlined items only entail putting pen on paper to sign an agreement - something which the government is good at doing - after all, GEJ signed the relativity agreement being fought for already in January this year. Now govt proposition is that NMA collects two months arrears giving the reason of it not being captured in the budget. Some questions however come to mind. First, when was the budget finally approved for 2014, April right? Yeah so that means that NMA shouldn't expect to palpate govt proposition till earliest April 2015. By then the cumulative arrears will be close to 2 years. Then the government will again 'beg' them to accept just 10 months arrears quoting the same excuse as they do now. Secondly, d'you remember how much "emergency fund" was given to INEC the other time? Also how much money did your president recently ask would be needed for "security", billions right? Now the senate, having kept quiet about the outrageous sum contrary to the outcry of most Nigerians, has gone for sallah recess. So don't be surprised if they eventually approve this sum from GEJ when they come back from recess. Thirdly, govt said that the relativity arrears is still not captured in the September supplementary budget, but they have forgotten what "supplementary" should mean is to capture as much as possible areas that were hitherto not attended to, the "health budget" included. So you can understand why the delegates refused to be fooled and have chosen to continue the strike unless payment issue is addressed with some commitment and not just that, but also that if they (NMA) will forego the 6months arrears, then the new relativity pay should take effect from this month - at least by that NMA'll know it can forego six months arrears in case the government breaks its promise as is their tradition and trade mark. So playing smart should be the approach of the NMA with the govt. That's why it should be an all or none law and most demands must be met before the strike is suspended. What d'you think will happen if the government reneges on its promise by 2015 and NMA again threatens to go on strike again? Of course the govt by then wil have the trump card to woop their butts thru public outcry against the doctors, something that is already the norm at present. To the layman, the doctors are the ones at fault in this strike and any repeat strike actions can definitely backfire. Agreements should be sealed with GEJ now. He might not be there next year, or he might get in for a second time. Either way might not augur well. A new government will claim that it didn't sign the agreement and will call for renewed negotiations which might take more years. If on the other hand he gets a second term, then he might be non-chalant as he knows he doesn't have another term to campaign for. |
hunter21: saying good morning everymorningYeah. That reminds me of the movie "Coming to America" where Akeem, an African prince newbie in the US woke up one morning and shouted from the balcony - "Good morning my neighbours". |
double3: Coal is not a clean source of energy, any mega project involving burning of coal to produce electricity is not ideal in this very 21st century. The world is going green therefore we should tap into the green economy as well. And have you ever wondered if nuclear reactors form part of the green energy sources? Yes I mean the nuclear power plants that form the major energy sources in places like the US. Have you ever wondered what the imperialists would have coined had it been that they have abundant coal and are stuck with using it as energy sources while the third world countries have abundance of plutonium deposits? Don't you think they would have turned around to campaign that coal is safe while plutonium is radioactive and hence a threat to nature? |
Shehucom: its suprising that all d tribes in nigeria call it that general name. BTW na why southerners dey call EBA self garriThe correct nomenclature is "Garri" for the cassava flour (the one you soak and drink) and "Eba" for the caked or moulded one (the one you prep with hot water and goes with stew) |
sod09: can someone explain y wolves howlHave you ever thought about why human babies cry? |
Abduletudaye: Oboi..Olx could be a scam for whoever that falls fro cheap stuff there.. Altho' am abit puzzled about something else I discovered. I saw this ad on FB, the person claims to be selling UK used items and based in AbJ too.. So I called to verify for BOLD5. She said it was 10KIt looks like a scam to me. What happens to her taking care of the delivery and all and then adding it to the cost price after you both must have reached an agreement? Lagos to Abuja delivery could cost up to 1k5 to 2k. That's not too little for scammers who might have |
Abduletudaye: Oboi..Olx could be a scam for whoever that falls fro cheap stuff there..It looks like a scam to me. What happens to her taking care of the delivery and all and then adding it to the cost price after you both must have reached an agreement? Lagos to Abuja delivery could cost up to 1k5 to 2k. That's not too little for scammers who might simultaneously have 20 to 40 of such victims. Now 2k in 40 places is still significant. So my advice is that she takes care of the delivery while she appropriately bills you for it. At worst, she sends it thru a driver and asks him to collect the charge for delivery from you. |
