We never insisted on discharging both mother and baby, we even asked them to take their time to care for them but they gave us a good bill of health that the baby is sound and okay to be discharged. We were only told not to bathe the baby nor cut his hair even at child naming as required by a muslim. We adhere to all tips given and we never expose the baby to cold nor too much heat.
We were not advise before referral whether we could afford expensive care or free public care as l detest general hospitals. I had given vengeance to God otherwise l would have either sue the hospital for negligence or even blacklist them by publishing their hospital address and phone numbers on the internet to prevent patronage.
We were completely ignorant of the health situation of the baby and thereby put our trust in the hospital as they so called professionals.
Thanks Your story is heart rending! I can't imagine all of you running from one 'hospital' to another in the middle of the night, only to be told the same useless stories time and again. However, I believe that the hospital that delivered your baby is hugely culpable and can be sued for negligence. Do you know that good hospitals will even insist that a full term jaundiced baby will stay under photo treatment until it fully clears before discharge, how much more for a pre-term baby? You owe it to the general public, even if you don't want to sue them, to make an official report to the NMA Lagos for proper review of their activities, and sanctions if found wanting. Strangely, some of these hospitals employ quacks and sub-par consultants, just to make money off unsuspecting public. Take heart for your son's demise. God will give your family more healthy sons as you desire. But this hospital/doctor must be brought to proper scrutiny. |

While it is possible that AC induced cold can be fatal, even to adults. Only a confirmed autopsy report can factually determine the cause of death. I have it on good authority that AC is good for babies. But then, AC temperature control runs from 16 to about 30 degrees celsius, you need to regulate it appropriately to avoid freezing to death. There are some nights when I'll wake up to urinate and discover my body temp has dropped badly, and I'll have to increase to 20 degrees up from 16. Another mistake people make, even you find it in some hotels, is mounting the AC to face the bed directly, this is dangerous as it can lead to freezing if you're not properly covered in thick duvet. |
Car Talk › Re: The Reason Why That Your Tokunbo Car Keeps Overheating Here In Nigeria by cecegorz(m): 11:47am On May 15, 2015 |
tonychristopher: In a lay man terms I will make this easier for us
Tropicalization of cars
The climate conditions vary severely across the globe and car manufacturers previously made cars for specific countries based on their climate conditions without realizing that with globalization the cars do get exported out from the country where it was originally meant for sale in.
Cars made in Europe used to be designed for European climate which were cooler and dryer than sub tropical Asian countries where temperatures can exceed 40C and have humidity over 80%. The direct impact of exporting a car designed for the European climate to Asia meant that the cars were not able to function at its best. There were many examples of cases where the cars would over heat as the cooling system was not suitable for the sub tropical climate. The radiators were far too small and other components were not able to cope with the high humidity leading to premature failure. Some BMWs, Alfa Romeos and Audis that were imported to Asia from Germany or UK struggled to cope with the heat. Many of these cars could barely travel 100km across an Asian city without overheating.
Some interior components also started to fade and peel off as the coatings and linings were meant for dry climate conditions. The car manufacturers only realized this in the late 1990s and started to do global scale testing during the development phase.
Things involved in tropicalizing a vehicle: 1. Paint - either repaint or try a good paint sealant. 2. Rubbers and Plastics (e.g. weather strips, dashboard, plastic bumpers, trimmings, etc.) - replace weather strips with tropicalized ones. Other plastic parts may require painting. 3. Cooling system/ Radiator Size/ Fan, etc. - Replace radiator as necessary or replace fan that has higher air flow.
Start with the paint. Its the most expensive part. Next is the cooling system. Then just observe first the other rubber and plastic parts and replace as necessary. Some might not need replacing immediately. Damn! I can't believe this stuff you are handing down here! Let me start with number 1 - US painted car of 15 years standing is far better than a 6mths 'oven bake' you'll get at Ojota or Gbagada. I'm saying this from experience with my first Camry. I fell into one advert here by a Nairalander to 'oven bake' the whole car just because it had a small dent at the back and front side, while the rest of the body are still glossy. 6 months after the 'oven baking', the whole paint collapsed and became worse than it were before painting, any slight touch from kids leaves lines all over the body. Number 2 - Any dashboard that melts here (Murano, Camry 2007 etc ) is purely factory fault. Other cars are doing great. Number 3 - This is the biggest killer of cars in the country today. My two cars have never had any slight issue with over heat, while I've seen people that followed this daft idea of changing radiator to double cell/removing thermostat run from pillar to post as the car issues escalates increasingly there-after. Caveat! Don't follow this Dude's advise if you want to enjoy your car/s |

blank: Ah. Okay. Get ready for the culture shock. EKEDC bill will collect all of that in less than 2 months. Good you are using prepaid meter but if it is an IKEDC one, you will have to purchase another meter.
That your 40k will be less than what you will spend per month on services. I believe in estates cos i feel it can reduce costs without putting the physical stress on you but those rules and regulations are utterly crazy. My current location is managed by EkoDisco and I guess their jurisdiction should cover Lekki too. Monthly service charge on the meter is a little less than 800 bucks (whether you use it or NOT), which I am sure that as consumers awareness grow, they will soon be challenged to knock the charges down. The problem is people like LG charging double of what PHCN pays for the kw/hr, and then uses the 24hr delivery as an excuse to jack up annual fees to over 200k, while I enjoy the light for 12hrs max. The greed they bring to the table is just what I can't afford to finance. Using economics of scale, the overall service charges should even be lower than what an individual pays in an isolated home. |

On your Own (assuming all things being equal and normal usage; 1. Electricity bill in EKEDC 2. Maintaining generator 3. Fuel (diesel and petrol) 4. Paying a security man 5. Buying water (including Water Corp) 6. Security dues (gate fees, OPC) Any other that i didn't mention.
Compare that with the cost of estate dues and 24 hrs electricity and not having to do any of the above. Remember EKEDC bills are really high. That is when you can know if the cost is worth it. Using my current residence as a guide, I pay less than 40k/annum for all utilities- water, security, Lawma et al. My meter is Pre-paid and because there's not much supply coming from the Grid, not sure I use up to 1k worth/month. I use Gen only at night, no need for 24/7 as everybody is out during the day. Now, remember I can decide to put a shop in front of my building, or even a BQ, and use the rent to defray all the utilities. Fact is the over bloated estate charges makes it unattractive for me, It looks like I'm still renting even after down-payment for the house (after all the major motivation for owning the home is to be free from rent bills). |

blank: @ Lawyer, this is a very apt thread. I will give my own personal experience and will call names because i do not pull my punches.
I tried to invest in Lekki Gardens Phase 2. They were dodgy about releasing information and gave out false info as well. I remember Gladys saying that each house will have inverters, the estate will have a town hall meeting in which they will choose their own service charge and electricity charge, each house will be provided with a carport, etc. I asked for a contract that states all of these which they didn't have. I asked to see the documents of the land, they kept telling me long stories. Can they start building if they do not have title? Will they swindle me and run away with the houses? They can only show me after i have paid up fully and other such thrash. Also, they don't have building plans so could not get a mortgage. After 2 months of back and forth, i let go. This was before they started building Phase 2.
After a couple of years, they had built up and really expanded and we were interested again. By this time, the areas available in Ajah were either Phase 4 or Phase 3 extension. After seeing the layout, we decided on Phase 3 extension because of the access road and how easy it would be to access the express. It was meant to be directly behind Phase 3. They showed us the documents which were that they had a court case that had been settled by the families. Gave us an upfront contract (although they said the proper sale contract would be after full payment, i have forgotten what they called this initial contract). We paid the deposit and started the wait game.
After 3 months, we went there and noticed that the access road beside phase 3 had been fenced off by the people beside. That day we went, we saw army and navy fighting over one side of the land (the unfenced part) where the estate should be. We started disturbing LG to show us where the phase 3 extension will be. Today they will say it is on the right, another day it is on the left. They said the access road will be through Phase 3 or phase 4. We did a search of the documents and realised that LG lost the land they bought and they had to re-buy it from the original owners which they had not done. We started bombarding their office for our money back. They wanted to give us phase 4 which was already being built but we insisted on getting our money back. That was when they mentioned that in the final contract, refunds will be 10% of the money paid and they will refund after 3 months. That was a very long 3 months. We went there with my cousin, a lawyer to fake a law suit if they should deduct any money as we didn't enter into that contract (it was meant to be done after full payment) neither are we defaulting. They were the ones that defaulted.
They finally gave us our full money after 4 months and i have steered clear of LG and any other estate property since then. Damn! I am currently in discussion with LG for one of their new developments. Your experience has given me ample points to push on our next meeting. Thanks a lot for sharing this. |
