Hello everyone I will be applying very soon to go to the embassy for my MBA I have been denied f1 student visa three times in the past this will be my 4th attempt even though I’ve been to the US about 8 times in the past on a b1/b2 visa and always returned(never stayed more than 6 weeks) I have a good travel history and I also have strong ties to my home country Nigeria as my family own multiple companies comprising of hotels,food and beverage factories and rental properties. I think the mistake was during my first interview I applied for a community college I didn’t know the difference because I’ve never tried to school there before and got wrong information from a bad source and went to the embassy with it also during the first interview i told the consular that my father has a vacation home in the US and there is where I will be staying while going to school and I got rejected but the second and third times I used a proper university with no funding everything was to be fully funded by my father who is a businessman and also a retired civil servant I would like to know if the denial has permanently tarnished my profile and good travel history and would it possible to get the visa this time as I have no funding everything is still being fully funded by my father was it a trump administration thing to limit foreign students please I need advice on what to do because I’m seriously considering giving up on this American dream and trying another country should I consider going ahead with it or I should just focus on another country will the previous denials limit my chances of approval? Please guys I need your help and advice should I just forget about it and go to another country please I need you guys help and sincere advice please anyone thanks and God bless(PS: my school fees is $33000 I have no funding and my statement of account is $34000 will this also be an issue?)

I requested for an emergency date. It was approved. However, the current available date is now 12th August which is against my start date of 17th August.

Now, guys do I wait and hope that an earlier date pops out or take my chances?

Do not request for emergency appointment, you can travel immediately you get your passport, at most you request for late presumption from you school to show at POE if can not make it before resumption.

For those who their U.S contacts are having issues making the SEVIS fee payment via Western Union, tell your U.S contact to try mailing the money and a Print Out of the SEVIS fee coupon via Money Order as an alternative.

Mine was paid through the Money Order and I got the confirmation email 3 days after.

Now I have an issue that I hope the experience friends here could help me with. I made a request for emergency appointment as my start date falls within 60days (17th Aug). The request was approved and I went ahead to reschedule on the CGI portal. the earliest day I now saw is 6th August (Abuja). So I don't know whether to pick the 6th Aug or check again to see if another earlier date will be available?

Request for your old passport details to be changed to the new.
There is a place on your portal that you can do that.
Be sure to up load biodata pages of both passports. Do this and it will be changed in few days.

We collect our passports the same day from there except when I am busy at work I go early the next morning for it.

Very easy go to immigration website and fill your data then go and pay the fee at any bank that accepts eg union back at GRA junction or UBA at the ground floor in the federal secretariat. then gather all needed documents and go to federal secretariat and submit. If you go very early you will get it that same day by close of business.

What ever name on her passport is the name she should fill in DS 160 then in the space for "other names you are known by" she should add your name.

The name on her passport is her maiden name and that was what was used to prepare her I-20. But she has done change of name and she filled her new name on ds-160. Please I hope this will not cause any problem.

I mailed the international office to change her name to her new name but they said the policy is that they should use only verified names and names are verified through passport.

Please what do you think we should do

You need to fill a new one.
Just retrieve this and get a new DS160 code.

I think it’s luck coz I saw a guy transcript where he presented his email as proof of his funding and the VO accepted that.

I don’t know why she did not accept my own email proof. Well I’ll try again.

I still have question that no one answered yet:

—Since nothing will change on my DS-160, do I still need to fill a new DS-160 to be able to apply for a new appointment OR I should just proceed to apply for visa appointment using my previous DS-160 confirmation number?

I did my visa interview today at the Lagos embassy and was denied. The reason was because the VO said there is no proof that I got a tuition waiver from my school but I showed her where it was written on the I-20 but she said it’s not enough proof. I attack the I-20 screenshot below.

Me: I’m going to the USA for my masters in Industrial Engineering at LSU

Me: After I completed my GRE exam, I went online to look for universities that offer admission for Ms in industrial engineering and LSU was part of the universities that came up in the search. I emailed the departmental coordinator with my credentials and she gave a promising reply and went far as saying I can merit a tuition waiver from the graduate school with my credentials which I was later awarded.

—That is where the problem started, the VO said she can’t see any tuition waiver award on my I-20 but I told her it’s right there under the remarks with a ** and she said no.

Then I brought out a printout of the email from the graduate school where they gave the tuition waiver award and she said that is still not enough evidence and she will be denying my visa.

Normally total cost of attendance is $47,600 but with my tuition waiver it’s $22100. But yet this VO is not taking it.

Please help me guys, I am trying to reapply, could you please advise on what need to be done?

I just emailed the department coordinator, graduate school, and ISO office to notify them about this and request an official letter of the tuition waiver award but no reply yet coz I think it’s still very early in USA.

Please advise on what I can do about this.

What process do I need to take to reapply for my visa? Do I need to fill in another DS-160? Could some help with a high level view of how I need to reapply for appointment because I am trying to reapply today ASAP to get a date sooner.

Fill a new DS 160 and put in what you have on your I 20 and update the new in your portal.
Be sure to do this 72hrs before your interview time.

I just found out that on my DS 160 form, I indicated the course of study as Chemical Engineering but on my I-20 it's Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. Would it be an issue during the interview? Mail your international student office (ISO) to ask for cheap hotels close to school for temporary stay while you get a permanent

Inform ISO of your arrival date so that they can wait for you on arrival

Convert your money and put in an account you can access out there.

Since yesterday, i tried to reschedule another appointment and after entering my MRV receipt number, it keeps displaying "No valid record can be found for the entered receipt number.
