Although i seriously pray for this project to somehow materialize, i don't know why i can't get myself to seriously trust any infrastructural program under Okezie Ikpeazu's Abia.

While it is clear that many SE governors are focused on creating a legacy that lives after them, i don't see that type of mindset in Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu. Like the two Orjis that came before him, that concerned themselves with primitive wealth accumulation, i think Okezie is simply there to look out for his pocket. Any talk about leaving an enduring legacy is total bunkum to Gov Okezie Ikpeazu.

TravelRe: How Come Nigerian Roads Don’t Have Lane Markings? by ChimaAdeoye: 5:05pm On May 14, 2020
VaselineCrew:
Some roads may have lanes when just constructed, but as soon as they start to fade away, that is the end of the lane marking on that road, almost never to be re-marked again.

Generation after generation of Nigerian drivers keep adapting to the lawlessness of driving on roads without lane markings, further worsening the already chaotic driving situation aided by low level enforcement of law and order by the police force.

I guess to some, we should rejoice at the fact that we even have roads in the first place. Unfortunately, these people are somewhat justified, in the sense that, the unsightly sight of bad roads pervades the entire country.

All in all, we need to promote order in our society and lane markings are a step towards order, at least in terms of road transportation.

You cannot aspire to become a developed country and ignore the details, because the details are far from trivial.

ARIARIA IPP
installed capacity: 2 MW
licenced capacity: over 9 MW
consumed capacity : under 1 MW
Type. runs on gas (supplied by shell gas pipelines)

This facility has the ability to supply the power needs of both residential, commercial and very light industrial facilities of the ariaria-faulks-osusu axis of Aba. Unfortunately, many people in that area are yet to key into such an opportunity to get cleaner, safer and cheaper power.
The State government of abia seem to be the people buying more into this project, as this plant powers most of the streetlights being installed in Aba today. I think massive sensitisation/ marketing should be carried out to make more business's and residencies key into it-while we wait for the reactivation of geometrics power plant in ABA
The problem of poor telephone network was solved by private enterprise and NOT Federal Government's NITEL. Just as the problem of portable water was solved by private boreholes by the people and NOT Federal Government's regional water schemes. Likewise, the problem of power shortage or housing shortage can NEVER be solved by the Federal Government's input.

SE businessmen should look into building modular power stations like this and distributing the electricity to a defined part of the city. This is better than waiting on the illusive Federal Government or NEPA to give you adequate power.

Nigeria already has an agenda to starve the SE of electric power. Even more sorry for them is that they also lack enough oil money to even give electric power to those regions that they favored.

Personally, i support and will fight for a united Nigeria that is poor and broke, than an oil rich nigeria.

OIL money is unfortunately the evil gift that has bred corruption and tribalism in Nigeria. if we can somehow take oil away from the equation, you will see a more reasonable, less corrupt and progressive nigeria.

The amount of yorubas that have flooded every city in igboland is getting alarming. In the past, it was only abooki that one had to contend with their influx selling suya at every street corner in the remotest villages, but today, from Yoruba tailors in every street corner to their girls selling all sorts of contortions as drinks. I wonder if anyone has observed this too. What could be responsible for the more recent influx of yorubas?

hey the project is a world Bank/newmap project,Abia could only meet the criteria to buy into newmap around 2016.
Just don't doubt me, google is for everyone including you-you would see notices for submission of tender for this project a year or two back(through the Federal government of Nigeria). The final design got approved last year and last paper work finished this year.
contrary to your assumption, demolition work (so the road can become a six lane road)and the drains on ph road (which is a federal road by the way) has been completed, demolition to enable ngwa road become a four Lane dual carriageway has also been done before now.
like I said earlier, browse and confirm about the "Aba flood mitigation project"

https://www.etenders.com.ng/nigeria-erosion-and-watershed-management-project-abia-state-invitation-to-tender-procurement-of-contractor-for-the-construction-of-flood-mitigation-measures-at-uratta-umuagbai-flood-plains-in-aba/
the above link is for submission of tenders a year ago.

https://newmap.gov.ng/update-on-implementation-of-initial-21-sites-and-table-of-new-sites/
the above link is from the newmap site as of 2017/2018.you can also see projects done by newmap in many states of the East. I hope you are convinced now?
No need wasting your time to convince me the sky is pink when it is blue. I am not referring to New Map erosion control projects, I am referring to dualization and total reconstruction of Ngwa road etc. which you claimed.

Everyone knows that Abia state has performed so poorly in providing or improving infrastructure for its people compared to other states in Nigeria. So for Abia to suddenly wake up with brand new roads dualization projects when every other reasonable state is cutting back smells heavily of fish. grin

Don't worry, in a few months we shall see if these audio road projects ever happened. Mind you, i'm praying that Abia State govt. is serious about a project for once.

It took years coming but, Abia state government just signed off on the reconstruction of ph and ngwa road with the world Bank(those roads are responsible for the gory pics of aba on Nairaland ) .
the contract covers the dualisation and total reconstruction of ngwa road, the reconstruction of urrata and obohia roads as well completing the new six lane ph road as well two flood collection ponds and a network of gravity drain pipes. For just a counterpart fund of 750m-thank you World Bank /newmap.Contractor is a collaboration between heartland (already working on ph road) and a UAE firm. construction to take two and half years.
https://www.sunnewsonline.com/abia-pays-n750m-counterpart-fund-to-world-bank-for-roads-flood-control-in-aba/
newmap also just rounded up on 3 erosion control projects in the State (Mrs ngozi okonji iwela's village is a beneficiary ).if we had keyed into newmap as early as Anambra, maybe our case would have been different
This news is so fishy!

So Abia state government didn't find it expedient to do these roads since oil price was between $65-$80 dollars from 2015. It is now that it fell to below $30 dollars that they will suddenly find the money for such massive rehabilitation and total reconstruction?

I laugh in Arabic! grin

I wish Nigerians appreciated the importance of the environment in creating a total package of a conducive city.

State governments should consider hiring a small landscaping team of 2-5 women to go around all the newly completed roads and plant trees!
Trees will transform the environment to make it habitable. Without trees, you build an ugly concrete jungle called city.

See how trees made the environment in the last picture look superior and beautiful. Even though the houses on that street are actually much older than those in Owerri. In many cases, landscaping with trees is more important than the building itself.

Abakaliki has continued to grow and impress everyone that knew the old city. Abakaliki will likely emerge as the most modern city in SE if they meticulously plan the city and open up new housing districts linked to the current city via very good roads.

My ONLY concern with the city now is that there has not been major new housing districts. Much of the city is still within the boundaries of the old city. It is now 24 years since Abakaliki became a state capital. Therefore by now, coming from Enugu, the entire land immediately after the state university permanent site on both sides of the expressway should be teaming with lots of new housing districts by now.

I wish Gov Dave Nweze Umahi will open up new housing districts called "New Abakaliki for all cadres of housing. Use of private developers of estates the way Awka recently adopted should also be considered. New mapped out districts for housing will create a new axis of development for the next 10 - 15 years and ensure the city remains well-planned. Similar to how Chime created Independence Layout Phase II new housing districts and Rochas created New Owerri area.

I typically ignore people deliberately trying to be deceitful. However to expose your deceit to those who don't know, please respond yes or no if the VAT being discussed are on made in Nigeria products or imported goods?

If it's on imported goods, then was it collected at the point of entry into Nigeria or was the VAT a sales tax collected at the place of sale where the product was sold, as practiced in normal civilized countries?

Now you can see through your thinly packaged deceit. You collect extra duties on imported goods and call that VAT. Only for the same goods to be loaded on a container truck and shipped to Onitsha main market where the final consumers pay extra money on it because of your VAT!

Now, everyone sees why you have struggled to kill any entry port (seaport or airport) in the SE and SS from functioning.

The glaringly concocted NBS data is a symptom of Nigeria and not the root cause disease.

Its shocking that after receiving billions of naira to give Nigeria planning data, it ends up being politicized that the results are beyond useless.

Nigeria is such a sh*thole because it does some abnormal things. Such practicing a weird adulteration of federalism whereby states resources are annexed by the federal government and then redistributed to states using weird formulas and justifications. These are some of the reasons that Nigeria is fundamentally a failed state.

Nigeria needs fundamental healing from its foundation. I personally believe its too late and impossible to salvage nigeria. The whole false superstructure needs to dissolve to make way for a workable structure.

How fraudulently talented Nigerians are in twisting information is spectacular!

if you didn't know how VAT works, you would think these states volunteered their IGR to share with the rest of the country.

In reality, they were only points of entry as seaports or International airports of the federal government. Whereby most of the cleared goods are transported for use in other parts of the country where consumers actually pay the real cost for the good!

BusinessRe: Abakaliki Mall, Ebonyi Taking Shape (Pictures) by ChimaAdeoye: 4:28pm On May 07, 2020
Governor Dave Umahi is transforming Abakaliki gradually. What worries me is that every Ebonyi governor makes no effort to launch a massive housing scheme to develop a modern Abakaliki in a new location along the Enugu expressway or behind the Ochiudo city area / vast lands behind the army barracks.

Hopefully, he will map out one massive residential layout out which includes areas from low and high-density housing. Let private individuals buy land in the new layout with a mandate to begin construction within 6-8 months. If Abakaliki can have a place like that where a new city will gradually emerge, it will have been assured of it's place as one of the greatest cities in Africa in the next few years.
