cjrane: You have asked the most intelligent question so far. That is why i blew it up to make sure everyone saw the question.
Yes, We must build those railways The world bank or African development bank can bank these projects that will easily pay for itself.
the railway line will not be expensive as they will not be too many large rivers to cross building it in Igboland.
Besides ONLY 3 railway lines are required to link the entire SE Major cities to the Enugu PH railway line. 1. Onitsha - Enugu line 2. Abakaliki - Enugu line 3. Owerri to Okigwe line.
Once these lines are completed, goods and agricultural products can be hauled cheaply via rail to where they are needed. As a matter of fact we can build light rail. not the type Amaechi and Fashola built that is designed to have endless bridges which make their cost unaffordable, but we should borrow the type of light rail system in Salt Lake City, Utah. This state, since it was not so financially bouyant, designed a rail system which didn't have a single bridge. So it was affordable. the only thing being that inside the city, the rails were almost like cars, as it stopped and moved at the traffic lights, just like a car would. They can use the space between the express to make right of way for the train until it gets to Enugu. or they can chart a whole new path through the sparsely populated bushes so that it enjoys a decent speed free of interference.

Ofodirinwa: We must follow the cattle rearing of smaller (landwise) nations.

Nigeria currently has just as many cows as smaller nations in the europe of equal land mass (appr.) to Igboland
https://nl.nedap-livestockmanagement.com/uploads/overzichtstal.jpg Key things to learn from this brilliant dutch farm.
1. Making animals walk their whole lives (Nomadism), causes animals to be lean and wirey as opposed to fat and plentiful like western cows. In the west cows are discouraged from walking about and their area is usually limited to assure they get as fat as possible. Cows that are fatter are then bred with fat bulls or bulls that gain weight quickly.
this led to western cows looking like this https://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/66107000/jpg/_66107992_139523581.jpg and african/northern cows looking like this
https://ourvalley.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/boyWithCattleWEB.jpg lean and materially worthless. cows should not be smaller than human beings.
most american ranchers look like this https://www.austinchronicle.com/binary/0da4/rsz_hi_res_joel_portrait-1.jpg and most Fulani nomads are as deprave and boney as their cows https://hausa.leadership.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/fulani-herdsmen-612x300.jpg
the men are examples of intelligence levels and lifestyle. One sit still and uses limited range land to store cattle, then brings greenery to them, which another one subjects himself and cows to a walk across the whole of west african making them leaner, more susceptible to disease and theft, and hungrier at the same time.
So fix location ranching is key. A large inexpensive canopy with lock in gates around the cow's neck, then pouring an abundance of foliage in front of their faces so that they eat and eat and eat. track their breeding times and breed them regularly.
A single cow is about the same cost as a mid-price vehicle in Nigeria. One man can by 5 cows and 1 bull, and begin from there. Within a decade he will have enough cattle to build the home of his dreams. Cow milk can produce butter, cheese, milk, etc. Cow manure can produce fertilizer, antibiotics. Their skin can be used for furniture, shoes, tools, belts for vehicles etc.
You don't have to wait for 'the government' to get involved. use a fence and armed security to keep wranglers out. Place track devices in their hooves, horns, skin and necks. Label them so that everyone knows who's is who's and we'll never buy a single drop of cattle from the north again. My brother, thanks a lot. The problem as rightly pointed out is that some people have the lowest form of IQ and they just cannot imagine things done outside of the way they know it.they think if they don't know about something, it does not exist. Unfortunately for them, all they know is the wrong way everything is done in Nigeria.
I remember in 1990s when i returned from USA, i had told someone that the mobile phone technology sweeping the USA then will someday be the greatest tool of bridging the digital backwardness of Africa. Infact, a time will come people will make telephone call from Amichi to USA. The men there argued so blindly that day, asking funny questions as; where will we see electricity required to power landlines, who will fund the wires on the pole,Whose land will the poles pass, will Nitel have a staff office in Amichi, even if they did, who can afford a mobile phone in Amichi etc, etc. they concluded that "America had entered my head" and thus i couldn't reason anymore. While indeed, it was their poor IQ that was preventing them from seeing what almost everybody else in the world had seen by then. Needless to say, i reminded the same men about our argument later when MTN reception reached Amichi and i called them on their phone and spoke to them from USA in 2004!
A similar argument that thought cell phones were an impossible thing is happening here about cows. The way fulani rears cows and walks them thousands of kilometers is wrong and archaic. Comparing that ancient and outdated way of rearing cows to the modern ranching method is similar to the comparing how chickens are raised in the villages by allowing them to roam about and find whatever it eats,, to a modern poultry way of raising chicken to maximize eggs production and meat. The problem is that a villager that has never seen nor imagined a modern poultry will argue you to death that such isn't possible in Nigeria.

VickJames: I am not here to derail this thread but I am here to enlighten many of us of the possibilities the eastern part of the country can give to its people.
We have two access to the sea, though, its alittle far from the sea but God knows why he did that for us. He knows that we aren't lazy and we can do something about our situation when the need arises. I know my people are deep-thinkers and know that we're the light of Africa in many aspects. If you look well at the Nigerian Map, you'll see that we have direct access to the different parts of the country without difficulty. Please note that this is a blessing in all ramifications.
Please, I want you all to also understand, we don't have governors who have large pool of cash to spend and our states cannot get such loans from any part of the world without our help. I need you all not to look at this things as unnecessary but think deep and see the importance of this message. What our governors are doing will only develop our region alittle no matter how they try to develop it. The sincere truth is that we're the only ones that can develop this region from our collective efforts and forgetting the fact that we're from different states.
What am I saying? No matter how huge the money needed to create this seaport, we can bring it out from collective effort and see our region develop in an astronomic pace. We don't need the ones in akwa-ibom nor the one in calabar. We need the one in Abia and Imo states. Abia seaport being a priority of the two. If this seaport is finished, by the special grace of God. The region will witness a development that will be very difficult to handle.
Please look at the map very well, if goods enter the region through Abia, we stab the country in the stomach (at the middle). Abia is connected to calabar, akwa ibom, Rivers, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, etc. These states apart from Calabar are less than 30 minutes drive from Abia state. Foreign investors will see this has a ready-made market for them because they can spread their tentacles within a short time span within these states and make their monies fast. This will make our region lure thousands of investor for long term investments.
Abia state is better located than lagos. Lagos is at the edge of the country while Abia is at the middle where it can connect different states at thesame time. We should understand the importance of this analysis before throwing it into the trash can.
We should also think again, with the rising agricultural sector in the east, we're planning to start exporting our own agricultural products through our region. This will reduce loss of billions through accident and taxes in Lagos. Since its our port, we will get a lot of discount when exporting these products. What will be produced in the eastern region will be exported through our own port. This will make business easy and we will run our economy ourselves from our own home. It will be very easy to export to Gabon, south africa and other african countries close to us.
I am begging not because I'm a business man neither am I from the government, we should look into this seaport because its our eyes to the world. God never made the mistake of giving us that life-line because he knows we will need in future.
I want an eastern region where development will be evenly distributed and nothing will said about our goods been confiscated in wharf and our brothers running out of business. It is imperative I say this now before it becomes, "we should've done it" kind of situation.
keep this in mind, I am from Anambra state and Nanka to be precise. I am coming back to tell you what Anambra needs to do to destroy one state monopoly as been witnessed in this country. Bro, Don't mind Yoruba cartographers, making all sorts of useless maps. There is a reason why they concentrate on trying to prove that igbo territories at the border with other regions aren't really igbos. but they have failed, just as their fathers failed to divide igbos by putting some in south-south and north-central. Have you noticed that yorubas always want to claim Aniomas aren't igbo, and even saying Afikpo aren't Igbo, Obi-igbo in rivers state, even with it's name, they want it to be renamed "obi- hausa or obi-yoruba. The intent is simple. They know even if Igbo decides not to use Onitsha or Port harcourt port, igbo still has Obiaku and Afikpo. the fact the the Yoruba and hausa leadership of Nigeria intentionally refused to develop River ports in these towns that have direct access to the sea is part of their strategy to encircle igboland and create a siege mentality on our people. Some of our people who do not know Igboland buy into their misinformation about Igboland being landlocked. They have looked at the map and decided on areas they would call non-Igboland, in spite of speaking igbo language just to achieve their evil design. Don't worry about their lies, our focus is that we shall not cede an inch of Igbo speaking territory to Nigeria regardless of the maps they have drawn since 1970 after the civil war. they too know very much that Igbo will not leave part of their kith and kin in nigeria merely because nigeria decided to call some parts of Igboland south-south or north-central. that is precisely why many faceless yorubas and abokis have carried on with multiple threads about how Anioma is yoruba land and not Igboland. But they would gladly kill and discriminate against Igbos from these places when it suits their evil design. |

Nwanne, its work oo. i also had visitors from Nigeria, so when i return from work in the evening, we chat instead of me logging in here to see whats happening. I went through the thread and marveled at what took place. They had tried to derail it at some point, but everyone resisted posting images of water logged roads in Yorubaland and focused on the facts. Which truly decimated them lol... How did you guys manage to get Chino under control not to post Obasanjo's dancing pictures when the yorubas tried him? Even Abagworo behaved wonderfully and even somewhat defended Igboland!!! Wonders shall never end ! i am so proud of what you guys did here, especially sticking to the facts. Even the pictures of Yorubaland were not meant to insult them, but were indeed an accurate portrayal of the medieval buildings we have in that part of Nigeria. I always say it that sticking to the facts and not joining the trolls in posting facebook pictures of people laughing is the best way to go in any argument. Good job guys! |

Kcinho: Dr Chilo Offiah, a member of the Enugu State Economic Advisory Council, says the State Government is targeting N7 billion monthly as internally generated revenue. Offiah, who is the Pro-Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, said this in an interview in Enugu on Wednesday.
He said the need to increase internally generated revenue base from legitimate means had been made manifest due to the dwindling federal allocation. He said for residents of the state to enjoy good infrastructure, they must partner with the state government. “In Enugu state, people don’t pay tenement rates. You can imagine the number of property in Enugu and most of these buildings are rented.
“The landlords collect tenement rates and put it in their pockets”, he told NAN. Offiah said that such landlords must henceforth pay taxes on their buildings. “We are focused on where we are going and have to capture every building and make sure everybody pays. “That is what gives money to some states for development and we want to make at least N7 billion every month in Enugu state”, he said.
Offiah said people must sit up and pay for what they enjoyed, adding that when they pay tenement rates and taxes, they enjoy good amenities. “We are not telling the people what is illegal, but what they already know and are tactfully avoiding. It’s a question of following your leader and doing what he says.
“Things cannot continue to run the way it is in Enugu state and this does not translate to multiple taxations. “When we access your building, you automatically know how much you are to pay every year. It’s not going to be over bearing,” he said.
Offiah said he was impressed with the caliber of people the governor had assembled to assist to move the state forward.
It will be recalled that Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi over the weekend inaugurated a 15-member committee to advise his government on ways to shore up the internally generated revenue of the state. www.today.ng/news/08054300-enugu-govt-targets-n7bn-monthly-from-property-rates/ Not a bad idea to make sure taxes are paid to the state government, especially property taxes. My fear is that our government people don't know how to structure taxes, so they usually use taxes as some type of punitive, exorbitant rate the British colonial masters used. The Americans tax you in everything, even when you buy water from a shop. but, the taxes are so low that nobody complains. yet, when you collect the low taxes and everyone is compliant in paying them, you will have a huge and reliable source of income to the state government monthly. Therefore, the ONLY problem is that our people are always extremist with doing things. We will move from a situation of collecting zero taxes to suddenly becoming the highest property tax burden area of the world by demanding draconian tax rates. Then people will riot and the whole noble idea is entirely dropped again..... and the vicious cycle is started again when the state cries about lack of funds to do anything. The genius in implementing an efficient tax rate/code such as in this idea is to make the property rates AFFORDABLE AND REASONABLE, so that various levels of socio-economic categories can pay it comfortably without much burden. A 5 storey building should not pay the same rate as a bungalow and vice versa. The state ministry of finance should come up with an average rate to be collected for every rented space category. for example 1. One bedroom - landlord must pay N150 per month 2. One bedroom self contained flat - Landlord must pay N250 per month 3. two bedroom self contained flat - landlord must pay N300 per month 4. three bedroom flat or 3 bedroom bungalow - landlord must pay N350 naira per month 5. A duplex- N500 naira per month. then the rates can be adjusted based on the area. Abakpa should have lower rates than independence layout. if a little bit of planning and order is used, this can be the solution to boosting the internal revenue profile without killing the people with unreasonable taxes. i know some people will advocate for N5,000 Naira paid as taxes to the state on bungalows every month. Which will lead to a lot of defaulters and which will eventually lead to a revolt because the tax rate is purely unreasonable and greedy by those entrusted with implementing it. |

asha80: I think agricultural products known as cash crops were exported during the regional era in the 40s 50s and 60s before oil became the main foreign exchange era after the civil war Yes, before independence, groundnuts, palm oil and cocoa were exported and the FG got 50% of the money while the regional governments had the other 50%. Today, all the money the FG has pumped into agriculture, all the respective northern states have quietly ursuped. yet, they are rolling over themselves fighting to take even the 13% derivation given to the Niger Delta states! ....and each time you ask them their contribution into the money they are fighting and killing people to get the lion share, they quote export of goats, onions and maize into southern Nigeria as their right to cheat! As if anyone but themselves have benefitted one penny from all that money derived from agriculture! Infact, the south is cheated because the food in Nigeria is 73% more expensive than other west african countries according to FAO reports. Yet, many farm inputs as fertilizers were given to them subsidized by the tax payers through the federal ministry of agriculture! Only God will save Nigeria from the greed of the north. But, i will quickly add that it is the southerners that have contributed in their own slavery by being so divided. |

Ungrateful Nyamiri Sod My abooki friend getting angry because the truth was spoken, Please, Which part of the lion share that goes to Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, borno, or even Abuja was derived from selling beans, tomatoes, sorghum, millet or even Nama as you will have us believe? Shebi abookis pockets all the money they make selling all these goods to southerners, while they still turn around and insist on grabbing the lion share of oil which God gave to others that don't have massive fertile land? Lets examine this lie a little bit and see how the money from beans and millet has contributed one penny into the federation account. So if i plant maize after receiving improved seeds from Federal government, received the fertilizers free from Federal government, then i harvest my Maize, sell it and pocket 100% of the money, i can still claim the money i made and pocketed 100% is part of my contribution to the Nigerian federation account and should get a lion share of whatever is being shared? The agricultural produce are only useful when they are exported and foreign exchange earned from them goes in the Federation account. This had NEVER happened in the history of Nigeria. the northerners will NEVER allow their agricultural money to enter the federal account and be shared with the southerners. So why are you insulting the person that spoke the naked truth? Just asking..... |

cjrane: If Nnamdi is here or you know how to reach him, tell him the following, 1. Never antagonize the USA or western powers in your struggle. They have every means to be sympathetic to your cause or shut it down. Even the Arabs and Boko haram ediots know that much. We must imbibe the attitude of reading every part of the Biafran war in order not to repeat the same mistakes, while expecting a different result. Although the role of British PM Harold Wilson was atrocious during the war, it was a mistake to publicly antagonize Great Britain. All efforts could have been made to approach Harold Wilson privately using other European allies as France and Portugal.
2. Freedom struggle isn't child's play. It is more of an art to influence public opinion and attitude towards an issue to threatening a confrontation. which typically makes you appear as the aggressor. It is a systematic process of first making your case and convincing the world that your case is a just one. Issuing threats as Boko haram does is exactly the wrong path to follow since it puts you in the same category as ISIS or Boko haram.
3. Begin peaceful public marches both in Nigeria and across the world to raise awareness about the oppression of your people. You should be armed with facts and figures to counter those that will want to dismiss the oppression of Igbos as a figment of imagination.
4. Begin inclusive ways to bring respectable Igbo people into the agenda. The impression that Biafra is Ojukwu's pet project is laughable and a confirmation that he had swallowed the Nigerian years of propaganda to belittle the Biafran struggle. Many notable Igbo people from Michael Okpara to cyprian ekwensi to Akanu Ibiam to chinua Achebe, sir Louis Mbanefo to Chike Obi and many more intellectuals were part of the brains behind Biafra. Ojukwu was merely the face and the military arm of the struggle. Therefore getting the Igbo think tank on board is the only way to advance the struggle. Smearing the image of ohaneze and Igbo intellectuals publicly because you don't agree with them is a sure recipe for failure. Excellent advise Bro. @ the bolded, i have always told people the first freedom fighter was Moses. How did he get his people free? Was he able to do it by killing Pharoah's servants punishing an Isrealite? No! He was led by God and he went back to Pharoah to present his argument why he thought enslavement of his people was wrong and warned Pharoah that the wrought of God will be provoked if he didn't listen. In this case, Nnamdi does not need to present his case to Buhari, he only needs to present his case to WORLD LEADERS and prove to them that his case is real. Leave the rest to God. If they could bring down Soviet union or apartheid in south africa without firing a shot, think of Nigeria if they are convinced it is an evil empire dedicated to the oppression of part of her citizens. |

GOATandYAMtheory: Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has said the Niger Delta region will suffer for the actions and inactions of the immediate past president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
Jonathan, who lost the March 28 presidential election to President Mohammadu Buhari hails from Bayelsa, a state in the Niger Delta.
Obasanjo spoke while responding to questions shortly after delivering a convocation lecture at the Benson Idahosa University, Benin City.
The ex-president said he couldn’t have helped Jonathan to do his job as Nigeria President after helping him to secure the position.
He said, “I became the Head of State because of my performance in the war front. If General Gowon had not sent me to the war front, he would not know whether I could perform or not. He sent me to the war front and because I performed, we both shared the credit. But if I had failed, he would not have shared the condemnation with me. I would have taken that alone.
“I believe that the opportunity that afforded itself in 2010 was for somebody from the minority to on his self esteem become the President of Nigeria. We should never lose such opportunity. What he did with that opportunity is entirely up to him. What he did or did not do with it will reflect for a long time on that part of the country. There is no particular person who got there without the people.”
http://thenationonlineng.net/niger-delta-will-suffer-for-jonathans-actions-in-office-obasanjo/ What annoys me with these eediots is that they arrogate to themselves the power of thin gods. was it not the same Obasanjo that provoked the first niger Deltta militancy by destroying Odi, only to turn around and beg the militants to drop their weapons when they finally cut down the oil supply. Neither Obasanjo nor any yoruba man can punish the niger delta for GEJ. Who has punished yorubas for Obasanjo's actions or punished the north for Abacha? if Buhari attempts it, he will have a very very difficult Presidency and he will end up apologizing like obasanjo did to the militants. these animals have not figured that Nigeria is at peace because the people want it to be so, not because it is Obasanjo or Buhari that is President. |

AnambraDota: Serious am tired of we will we will until I start seeing us doing it.
I was at Nsugbe on Tuesday to be sincere any Anambra person that is still investing outside igboland needed his brains rechecked.
33, Akpaka, Nsugbe and college communities are all sprawling neighbourhoods. Development in Anambra is underrated and under reported.
But my pain is that individuals are doing what government is suppose to be doing, you see landlords sandfilling their streets, buying electric wires and poles to make sure light got to their homes. My dad was responsible for all the sandfills on our streets as back as 1994 when we were developing our land at Iyiowa behind Ideke Girls, he bought wooden poles and cables to make sure electric light got to our house which took 5 wooden poles and more 1440 ft of electric cable from the mainroad to our home the 8th plot from the mainroad.
The reason why am pained over the development is that when I got to Nsugbe the dude I visited was telling me how they are contributing to make sure there is light in the area. I saw the wooden poles they bought and huge coil of cable wire yet they need to bribe EEDC officials for those things to be fixed. He told me the landlord was responsible for the street sandfilling.
Our government is not trying at all, this is not just Anambra peculiar problem but a generic Nigeria ineptitude.
Anambra State should be proactive, the scene of the tanker disaster is still like that months after the ugly even, beggars and hawkers have taken over the pedestrian bridge at Uga Junction, what is our government actually doing about street begging
When Northern states that are home of beggars are banning it, the beggars are finding their ways to East in a very disturbing ways.
Why is it difficult for Anambra State government to say no and mean it
Moore Street, Okwei, Iweka, Sanniez, Venn Road etc have been turn to market places and parking lots for traders who built houses without space for parking of cars.
Am sad to conclude that Anambra State government is weak and lack foresight.
Visit Niger Street and see what sand dredgers have turned the road to, just visit this street and see what is happening under this and previous administrations.
Sobs Sandfilling street, putting electricity poles are indeed government responsibility but in Anambra we have learnt to do self help because the government cannot do it all. It may interest you to know that electricity reached nnewi, Ojoto, Ozubulu,Ichi,Amichi,Oba etc precisely by individual effort like that. I remember my Dad holding electricity meetings in our house and then moving round town to collect everyone's dues and pay the contractor that put the poles and wires from onitsha until it got to nnewi. Boy, that was the days of real Igbomen developing their community in spite of lack of funds! |

funkiebully: What happens to d stadium ngige started at agu Awka? Biko, all those mushroom stadia at Fegge, Onitsha north or Agu Oka should be used for secondary school inter-house sports or elementary school children march past. Is it an abomination id we have the type of Stadia at nnamdi Azikiwe Enugu, or Jos, bauchi, kano, calabar or even liberty stadium Ibadan? Notice that i have not mentioned Abuja, Lagos or Uyo, Akwa Ibom.i am just saying FIFA standard not even truly world class like Uyo. I am just saying get something decent that NFA can use for international event once. |
