It can be reclaimed just like how Peter Obi reclaimed the area where Sabmillar is now!. Obiano can do it & give us A City We Can All Be Proud of!!!
Recovery is a good thing, but believe me, you don't want a beach that is first polluted by a market and recovered. Imagine a place like ose market recovered and a 5 star hotel built ? It is always better to secure the natural thing before it's polluted. Again recovery is so hard and fraught with all sorts of legal boundaries that make it a Pyrrhic victory.
Take the Chuba Ikpeazu stadium in Onitsha for example. Peter Obi rightly pulled down the 4 storey Onitsha north LGA building wrongly built there and paid to have the debris removed by as much cost as building the tiny stadia. In the end, it may have been better to go some where in Nsugbe and build a bigger stadium on virgin ground.

5 star hotels on river beaches should look like the pics below or you'll be building another hotel that nobody will care to visit.

Why not something like this arround River Niger area?
You are absolutely, 100% correct.
We need a beach 5 star hotel on the banks of River Niger. But the question is that our entire shoreline from Ogbaru to 33 have been built up already. The ONLY remaining shoreline left is the Anam modern city area. the only reason that has not been taken over is that there is no bridge yet at Nsugbe opening access into the area. Therefore, the government should use this period to secure the beach line in this area because as soon as a bridge is being built, Onitsha traders will buy up the entire beach line to build more markets.

They bitterly hate the Igbos and indeed the southern minorities and would want them to leave Lagos etc and go stay in their own country!

But in contradiction to their true feelings, they don't want Biafra because they want to perpetuate their right to collect the lion share of the oil resources sourced from the same peoples land, using the bogus criteria they foisted on the country called Nigeria.

Politics › Re: Buhari Has Surpassed Jonathan’s Achievements Within Three Weeks – APC by ChimaAdeoye: 2:16pm On Jun 19, 2015
elbinmanny:
The All Progressives Congress says President Muhammadu Buhari has already surpassed President Goodluck Jonathan’s achievements in the area of fighting insecurity. The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in a statement that Buhari had done in three weeks what Jonathan could not do in six years. The party said the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government could not get world powers to help Nigeria in fighting terrorism. It said within a short time, the Buhari administration would wipe out terrorismThe statement read, “Within three weeks of President Buhari’s inauguration, he has done what the PDP government could not do in six years: Invigorate the fight against Boko Haram by rallying a regional and global front against the terror group.“Today, the United States has pledged $5 million to the fight against Boko Haram, in addition to other material support. This is apart from the support that has been pledged by the G-7 to strengthen Nigeria’s efforts to quell the insurgency.“Thanks to President Buhari’s shuttle diplomacy, the Multi-National Joint Task Force that the PDP government could not bring together for all of six years is ready to deploy more soldiers next month, while the President has ordered the release of $21m to facilitate the establishment of the headquarters of the force in N’Djamena, Chad.”The APC said Buhari had been able to restore Nigeria’s integrity and that many countries were beginning to respect Nigeria again. It said the PDP-led Federal Government politicised the fight against terrorism and that was why it failed to protect Nigeria’s integrity. The statement added, “Since assuming office about three weeks ago, President Buhari has visited Chad, Niger, Germany and South Africa, winning support and friends for Nigeria all over again and returning the country to the comity of respected nations.“Those who were put off by the PDP government’s resort to politicising the fight against Boko Haram – even as the insurgents grew stronger – are now joining President Buhari to battle the terrorists. In no distant future, the results of his tireless efforts will begin to show.”The party said even though Buhari was far older than Jonathan, he was already doing better than him.It said Buhari was already assembling a team of highly skilled professionals that would help him to implement his promise of change. It said, “On the domestic front, President Buhari has been handling pressing issues far away from the klieg light, and his efforts to assemble a first-class team to implement his change mantra, which he is personally driving, are continuing apace.“We in the APC are sure most unbiased Nigerians are very proud of President Buhari and the vigour he has shown in governance, the kind of vigour we did not see in the immediate past administration that was presided over by a far younger man.”The APC said only anarchists and non-democrats would ask a President who has not spent one month in office to resign. It said the PDP had no moral right to criticise the APC within less than month of Buhari’s administration since the PDP had failed to make any meaningful change in Nigeria despite being the party to have ruled Nigeria the longest – 16 years. However, the PDP charged the APC and the Presidency to stop making mockery of governance with premature celebration of imaginary achievements. The PDP said it was embarrassing that the APC and aides to President Buhari had decided to invade the minds of Nigerians with propaganda instead of assisting the President, who was inaugurated three weeks ago, to settle down, form a government and deliver on his campaign promises to the electorates. The opposition party wondered why it was difficult for the APC-led Federal Government to appoint even a Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Chief of Staff to the President. The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in a statement in Abuja, said the nation and democrats world over were thoroughly embarrassed by the alleged achievements claimed by the APC.He said this action had further exposed the APC’s lack of capacity and direction as well as its inability to draw a line between propaganda by an opposition party and dissemination of credible information as a party in government.Metuh said, “How can a serious government start shouting achievements and make bogus claims on the fight against terrorism when the effort is apparently losing steam as insurgents, who had already been pushed to the verge of surrender in the Sambisa forest by the (ex-President) Goodluck Jonathan administration are now surging back into the country under the APC-led government?“How can a serious government shout achievement based on pledges by foreign interests, a dangerous slide towards neo-colonialism, instead of settling down to galvanise bequeathed resources and potential that have already placed our great country as one of the fastest emerging economic and political powers in the world?“How can a serious government shout achievement and attempt to explain away the untidy fact that after three weeks, it has not been able to organise itself even to take basic steps of conventional appointments, such as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief of Staff to the President and advisers in key sectors of the economy?”He wondered what the APC was celebrating, alleging that due to its naivety and delays, key sectors of the nation’s economy were allegedly drifting dangerously with “a perilous crippling of foreign and domestic investments, including activities in the money and capital market sectors.”Metuh said that the APC should not by any means attempt to use its flimsy list to divert attention from its numerous campaign promises for which the people will be holding the party accountable.“Finally, we advise the Presidential spokespersons to allow Nigerians to judge the President as events and time will prove exactly the taste of the old wine,” Metuh added.

Spyder and CJ, you are right. Enugu has truly punched above it's weight when you compare her sterling performance in internal revenue generation and the available resources compared to neighboring states with bigger commercial activites in 2 or 3 major cities! Other SE states need to learn and imbibe Enugu's system of internal revenue remittance. Most importantly, how Enugu makes sure the taxes collected as internal revenue enter government purse and not into private pockets.

It is truly awesome that Enugu can generate far more revenue, in fact, almost double the internal revenue of Anambra and Abia! Something must be wrong in how the later states remit the collected revenue into government purse. Considering the number of taxable properties, market shops and factories in Aba, Umuahia, Onitsha, Nnewi, Awka, something just doesn't add up that Enugu is able to generate far more resources than these cities combined.Somebody is simply collecting taxes in these states and pocketing it. Someone is indeed robbing these states blind!

Politics › Re: The Igbo Conscience Intervenes On Igbo/yoruba Misunderstanding: Calls For Truce by ChimaAdeoye: 8:50pm On Jun 18, 2015
Igbo and yoruba are struggling for who will be the alpha dog. The sad thing is that they both willingly decided to be alpha dogs of nigeria and not the master(Hausa/fulani). Their attrition and opposition to each other will only make the Fulani, the true masters of Nigeria. Those who think it will lead to a breakup of nigeria are only day dreaming. because even if yoruba attack Igbos in Lagos, it won't drive Igbos out. Moreover, Igbos will stage their own attacks of yoruba in Port Harcourt and Onitsha, which still won't drive yorubas out.

How do i know this? Because the same action and reprisal attacks has happened too many times and Igbos are still in Kano, just as Hausas are still in Onitsha and Aba. grin grin grin grin
Politics › Re: Igbos, South Southerners, Nigerians, Say No To Nuclear Power Station In Nigeria by ChimaAdeoye: 7:55pm On Jun 18, 2015
I don't care if there is a nuclear power station in Nigeria. Buhari should site it in katsina state. Daura to be specific. He will see that just the cost of maintaining the facility negates the so called cheap electricity it provides. They should remove Itu, Akwa Ibom from their list and substitute with Maiduguri. Akwa Ibom has a lot of gas for electricity generation, not importing nuclear fuels.

Let Buhari keep nuclear power-stations in the far north where nobody lives. I don't any radioactive dust or nuclear meltdown that will prevent me from ever seeing my region again.

if it is a question of building world class international airports, deep seaports, world class universities, every site chosen would have been far north and southwest. Akwa ibom would have been abandoned to use their own money to build their own airports and deep seaport. But, since this can possibly result in a disaster from a usual lack of maintenance culture, which will force people to evacuate the nuclear disaster zone for 100 years or more, you'd be sure they won't site it in the far north or southwest.

Whether is is Chad, Niger, Cameroon or Nigeria, anyone can strike Boko haram wherever they are hiding. I saw a Nigerian airforce video showing BH fleeing from artillery attack, but didn't want to bomb them! If Chad had not joined the effort against BH, Shekau will have occupied Lagos by now and we will all be giving the same lame excuse that we lost because Boko Haram is better armed than Nigerian army.

Nna ike gwurum oge nwoke mu afu siri na umu nwanyi di ime na anwu anyhow from common cesarean section na Onitsha. Anyway thanks for adding meat to my comment. Hospital is not about having a beautiful well-painted empty building. It is about having competent and adequately motivated manpower, which I'm afraid to say that no governor has made serious effort to address the problem. Anambra state health system is the least funded and the most neglected. This is why private hospitals are booming in the state.
No disrespect meant to the multitude of very good doctors in Onitsha. As a matron that worked in Onitsha for many years, the truth is that Onitsha and Aba had the highest concentration of quacks in the SE. Aba fared slightly better due to the presence of ABSUTH, in which Onitsha had no large hospital that attracted truly qualified consultants to set up in the city until recently. Most of the hospitals you see in Onitsha are owned by MBBS GPs. All the appendectomy, c-section and Hernioraphe they performed were learnt from locum and not real proper residency training.

I once said that my deepest regret about Ngige was that he neglected Onitsha general hospital despite being a doctor himself, and i meant every word of it because I was there and witnessed it first hand. Obi did limited renovation work which helped us regain accreditation and his icing contribution to healthcare is that he built a tertiary teaching hospital in Awka. That hospital has since attracted highly qualified doctors to Anambra state, just as NAUTH attracted qualified doctors around Nnewi area. Although Peter Obi could have really transformed the general hospital, Onitsha by using the multi-millions of naira donated to Mission hospitals to build multi-storey wards like 200 bedded ward at UNTH or even multi-storey wards to upgrade it into a Anambra State Specialist Hospital, Onitsha. Which could have transformed the hospital and increased its capacity to admit a lot of patients, perform more advanced surgical operations and boost revenue.

I love this idea. Why can't you pitch or email the governor some of these ideas?
I guess this forum is needed to pull our resources together.
Some people may have ideas because of what they have experienced or where they have traveled to, but are not living in Enugu nor have access to the governor to pass the ideas.
The onus is on those of us who have access to His Excellency or people that can influence change to make sure they pass the ideas of our people in order to use it and improve the socio-economic well-being of Enugu State. I guess it is a sort of division of labor.

Owerri does have a good number of hotels about 50.

However, If people dont invest we complain, if they do we complain. I don't see anything wrong in the hospitality sector. Whether you build hotels or not, ashewo will exist and will use any shanty for their business. What they should concentrate on isn't to stop people from investing, but building of resorts where people can come and have activities for a whole week.

Obudu cattle ranch sort of resort and the Tinapa water parks are usually great and easy fun activities to build. Especially in our warm climate.

I very much like your contribution. i just like to add to your contribution a little more.
One thing i have gained by traveling to some few tourist sites abroad myself is that if the site isn't a true wonder of the world, such as Niagra falls or Zambezi/ victoria falls, it would be almost impossible for anyone to leave their country of origin in Europe or America to head to Ogbunike cave or Ngwo pine forest. However, you can attract them to Enugu first by a proven partnership between (International Airline to Enugu + Hotels where they would lodge and to pick them up from the airport and the travel agency in their home countries). This is the tripod for successful tourism in any country doing it. Thus, working with fine hotels here and Ethiopian airline to package a subsidized vacation. Once they know one week vacation will cost $2,000 dollars including airfares and hotel, then they are likely to pay for the package. Ofcourse when they are here, the participating hotel can take them to local tourist sites like Ngwo pine forest, Ogbunike cave, ezeagu waterfall etc, if those were developed. They will typically buy souvenirs in Nigeria, they will pay for the transportation of using the hotel's air-conditioned mini-buses to travel around, food, local clothing, local art work etc. These will then add to funds coming into the economy.

Kenya and South Africa are able to maintain a reasonably high amount of tourists visits from western countries in spite of fear about terrorism and crime in those countries because they organize packaged vacations through travel agencies in the West, Japan and China.
Coming to Nigeria isn't an easy task at all, even for Nigerian citizens living abroad with their spouse and children. If you go to our embassies for your children visa because they are born abroad, they will be dribbling you from pillar to post, until you pay someone bribe. For foreigners who aren't used to that type of "settlement" behavior from government offices, they simply skip going to Nigeria and choose Kenya, Tanzania or South Africa. That is why i always laugh when our Nigerian tourism ministers naively say building up a cultural carnival or festival is just enough to bring anyone to come to Nigeria without fixing the massive hurdles involved in actually coming to Nigeria. If we fix the hurdles involved in coming to Nigeria, even without ministry of tourism, tourists from all parts of the world will flood Nigeria.

Think about it and put yourself in a tourist's position. If there were a travel agency at the Shoprite Mall, Enugu who is speaking Igbo or English and promoting a packaged one week vacation trip to Brazil for $2,000 or $3,000 dollars (airfare, hotels, visa), if you have money, you may want to pay and the travel agency will sort out everything. If you had to seek out Brazil embassy yourself and find airlines flying to Rio de janeiro, and also to find hotels in Rio where you will stay for 1 week, to learn how to communicate in Portuguese or learn the language so that you can take taxis there and move around, it will be too daunting and you will probably never visit there. Unless, we simplify these and make the tourist just pay a lump-some specified amount upfront and everything else involved is taken care of, they will never come here.
@ bolded,
Excellent ideas.
Hope someone begins to put these arrangements in place.
