Search "Chy Space" on youtube. She is a Nigerian who works in the UK. I think the main thing you need is IELTS (& maybe First Aid). zubixone: This thread is for our experienced 9ja gurus.
Has nonregistered nurse recently secure care asst or health care job with only care cert + work experience from Nigeria as most UK companies prefer UK residents. This idea is seriously discouraging the beginners, what's your advice? |
Career › Re: Biochemistry Graduate Under Pressure To Study Nursing; Please Advise by cooooooks(m): 9:22pm On Jun 22, 2022 |
Couldn't she move to the UK as a Healthcare Assistant, then do Med School? If she has money, she may be able to do med school in a cheaper jurisdiction, as well. Alternatively, she should do nursing which will open her to not just the UK but US/Canada as well. NaughtyBrainiac: Hello All,
A friend studied Biochemistry in one of Nigeria's Federal Universities, she has completed NYSC but she does not have a job yet.
Her brother who currently resides in the UK wants her to enrol in a school of Nursing in Nigeria and she is not happy with what her brother wants.
I asked her if her brother's reason is because Nursing is profitable in the UK and she said YES, that's his reason. The goal is that she'd eventually relocate to the the UK.
My concerns are:
1. Why study a course like Biochemistry and go back to a school of Nursing? Aren't there better alternatives? 2. Most of the people I know that attended school of Nursing always go back to the Univeristy for BSc. Nursing. 3. School of Nursing in Nigeria will take her about 3 years and I am sure she will still need to write some exams before she will be able to work as a Registered Nurse in the UK.
Are there possibilities of moving to the UK to study that version of Nigerian School of Nursing? If yes, how expensive is it?
On the other hand, if she's able to go to the UK for her masters, masters in what course can she apply for (please bear in my that she is a Biochemistry graduate) that would give her chances of securing a good job in the UK ( At least, a kind of job that would still make her earn something close to what Nurses earn)?
Please advise. Thank you |

It depends on who Atiku & Tinubu choose as VPs. Obi will win Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo, Cross River & Akwa Ibom, regardless of the VP picks. Obi will be competitive in Rivers, Kaduna, Delta, Edo, Oyo. With Kwankwaso, it's a big guess as to who will win Kano, Sokoto, Kaduna, Niger, etc. LesbianBoy: It seems MOST people shouting Peter obi online are just doing so for the fun of it. I love Peter obi and in a sane country he should win, but I don't think his presidential ambition is realistic.
Now to those that may disagree, it's fine.
Now let's imagine that Peter obi win, which states do you think he would win that would make him be announced as the next president?
Please this is an honest question and not to discourage anybody, I just want to see what would be written here. |

Nigeria is not even cheap. How can Titus from Morocco here be N 600?? ? Or is it rice? Or plantain? Butter? Cost of cars? How can 29 year old Toyota Corolla be selling for N2 million plus?? exmaysn12000: I just taya for you people. What do you mean my cheapest to live, when majority of the citizens earn below the minimum wage (30,000 naira, less than 80$) in a month.
So what's the point of the 'cheap' when you can't afford the basic things of life.
Is it not better to live in a country that is 'not cheap' but you can afford the basic things of life, living off on their minimum wage and most importantly, eat 3 square meal?
You have no point. |

Rice is more expensive in Nigeria. I buy 8 kg bag of rice for $12 or $10 (on sale, normal price is $16). A 10 kg bag of potatoes is $5 but I usually get it $2.5 on sale. (You can use potatoes to do poundo) Official $1 = N370 (CAD). Black $1 = N450. How much is a 25 kg bag of rice? (25/8 )*12 = $ 37.5 This is N17,000 at black market rate and N14,000 at official rates. On Jumia, 25kg of parboiled Mama's Pride rice is N16,000. Stop lying to people. Or is it plantain? 4 fingers of plantain is ~ $1.50. Can you buy 4 fingers of big plantain for N600? https://www./mamas-pride-nigerian-parboiled-rice-25kg-84343924.htmlstaga: There are pros and cons to every side. Abroad, you can easily get financing for anything you want to buy. That in Nigeria is virtually non-existent, except for those working in high-end MDAs such as AMCON or PTDF.
But the cost of living abroad is insane. BTW, Nigeria is the 3rd cheapest country to live in. |

If the aim is for japa points, it's better to wait until you're at B2 level to take the TEF or TCF. Aunty, doing it alone, with kids, won't be easy but is not impossible. Take stock of every minute of your day. Can you do a trial 1 week run? You need to carve out 1 to 3 hours a day. If you can get a physical A1 or A2 textbook, get it. Alternatively, download one of the books on this thread, and try to print it. ChristabelleD: I am not looking at schooling, I just need something to get extra points to add to our score, my husband isn't even around always so that's out of planning time and i work full time and there is home and kids, I do Duolingo daily and it has helped in basic communication. Definitely. I think Badagry is supposed to be a good immersion experience as well. I would strongly suggest that you watch Quebec TV as well. The accents, slangs, etc are different as well. I wouldn't do an A1 exam. A B1 DELF may be helpful for entry into a French speaking university. You need to test yourself, or get a French teacher to test you. That's a good way to keep yourself honest. As for time, my brother/sis; you have to make time. Are you married? Convince your spouse to take on more work while you do this study. Can you switch your movies from English to French? Can you watch French children TV? Good luck. ChristabelleD: Hello everyone, I just joined this thread still reading up but it's alot. I want to sit DELF A1 on July 5th and I tried evening online lessons but after long day at work and home duties it wasn't working out so I only did one month. I still practice daily with Duolingo. I want to start weekend intensive at Alliance Francaise this weekend, to help me brush up for DELF A1. Question is, how many points can DELF A1 get my express application and is it worth it? Those who were born in the 60s and 70s, and were educated, disagree. Both my parents earned good money. Back then, everybody earned well and to roughly equally. A shell employee was not over out earning a civil servant. Those who moved abroad before the 2000s were more scared of military coups than economic downfall. JejelifeNG: Let's talk about the what, the when, the why and the solution
Nigeria has never been good enough to keep everyone in. Before now, travelling out was not a "Plan A" for the average university grad. It was a possible plan C for majority. Now, it has become a necessary plan A for most people and in many cases, the only plan!!!
The reason it became so bad is closely tied to our government. It became this bad after the 2015 democratic coup.
Nigeria has never been good. Nigeria has always been like a kettle on a stove where the temperature increases by 5 degrees every year. Unfortunately, since 2015, the temperature has been increasing by 30 degrees every year. The rate of destruction of some things that had previously never been visibly touched by bad governance is terrible now hence the urgent need to relocate
The solution is.... |

One of the funniest stories was a girl who got pregnant by a man she thought was an Uber driver. She didn't know that he was somebody's driver, driving his oga's car to chike (and f*CK) her. So many similar stories arise. Or how about those who borrow for (our stupidly exploitative market-like) marriage. When Aunty has married, that's when she finds out that food no dey. Even in japa. Some men borrow money, come back and marry. When the wife gets there, she realises that no money dey. Or when older men marry nurses or midwifes to come to the abroad and work for them. My people perish for lack of knowledge. truthsayer009: You are very right, we are extremely poor.
This is why I worry when I see Igbo Men seeking long-term partner approaching ladies with "I can take care you", "I have this & that", "I have this properties & cars, businesses etc" as a means of wooing women.
Nigeria is too poor of a country to woo people with the good life, because majority will jump at it. A lot of women end up getting married to men who claim they work in Chevron as Full-staff, until realising that they aren't even close to being a staff, they just had a short contract that is even expired years back. I know real people offline claiming they work somewhere only to be exposed after marriage.
The Japa thing too is a problem, people are ready to leave their spouse for another person who is sure of Japaing, and they don't even bother about compatibility. |

If men lead with money, real or imagined, they will continue to meet money minded women. There are loads of Nigerian women who seek real love. Sometimes, these are women who have chased money before. I laugh in sadness. Raalsalghul: Love in the world's poverty capital?
I laugh in Spanish.
Finance is a major influence on heterosexual relationships in this part of the world.
In case you haven't notice, it's mostly Nigerian women that broke shames their men. |

This is the definition of classism. It is a flawed and discriminatory thought process that I reject out of hand. pansophist: Even better, people should marry who they share the same economical level with. As a rule, he/she should be able to give themselves whatever you can give them. Then its sure they are marrying for love, not for selfish motives. Women by default practice this rule, men are yet to catch up. |
Family › Re: New Realities. by cooooooks(m): 7:28pm On Jun 08, 2022 |
That's why people should marry who they share mutual love and respect with. GloriousGbola: And this is why people need to be paranoid. You cannot always guarantee what SO will do when you enter obodo oyibo. We know the women's stories, plenty of chicks who are just tolerating until they get to a place where they are empowered to Fk you over. But same happens to women too. One friend of a friend, her hubby exit closet once they entered us. Another (a cousin) had her husband abandon the family within a few months of entering Canada. Same happened with another cousin and his wife. Babe just started showing craze once they entered us.
Too many marriages here are 100% managment/convenice and you cannot predict what happens when convenice is no longer convenient |

This is extremely common, at various income levels. There are people who won't breakup because "at least I go see food chop", some that can't breakup because regular Dubai trips are assured, or even japa potential. We need to have empathy for peoplez especially with our poverty level in Nigeria. Leave online personas, we are extremely poor. pocohantas: Lol. I read somewhere that a girl refused to breakup with her abusive bf because he has washing machine and Midea AC.

It's expected outcome that is used to justify. A japa to Canada or Europe will cost anything from N6 my to N10 m. An average wage in Japaland is N2 my a month gross. On top of that, the chance of citizenship sets up the nuclear family for life. This return on investment is better than any investment vehicle in Nigeria. Klass99: Hmmm, the part about aged parents going into debt for 20, 30 and 40 year old children doesn't sit well with me. It is just all shades of wrong and no sensible child should be allowing that to happen.
If you want to japa, have a plan, be patient and work your plan. Don't look for short cuts either and most importantly don't let aged parents get into debt because of you. Are your hands broken or is your brain malfunctioning, to a point where you cannot work out your relocation plan? That's all I've got to say! Prima it's been a while, how are you?
Modified to add: Except parents are willingly taking loans and going into debt for their adult children........I cannot deal ooo. |
