Yeah, I like Jimi Agbaje too. Just like I like rice. But if you serve me rice along with sh*t, you can be sure I won't eat that rice. Agbaje should avoid PDP. Maybe Labour Party would be a better option.

Eatosam: The matter of discussion is not mere argument or a display or an abuse of intellect. Rather, it is pointing out what is wrong. Scarcism could then be a way to dodge the truth. Because it is recess, would you support banning the reading any other literature(prose/drama/poetry)? We all are free moral agents, your choice is your choice but others also have their choices.
Exactly my thoughts. Must you be religious to read a piece of religious literature? What makes the Bible so revolting that it has to be put on a blacklist of literature students can't read?
Christianity Etc › Re: Boy Suspended From School For Reading Bible During Recess by dabossman(m): 9:28am On Jul 31, 2014
frosbel: Religion is not about what you read but how you behave. There are many who read the Quran and bible but behave like Satan.

The school had rules and God wants us to be good examples even when it comes to obeying secular authority.
My issue is not with the boy's actions, but with the ridiculous rule. Do you think any establishment in the US can get away with a rule that bars homosexuals or promotion of homosexuality in any form on it's premises without being condemned for being homophobic?

Anyway, I'm done with this thread as it seems the news is fake.

So Jim Iyke arrives at MMIA and is met by a beautiful female Immigration Officer. She smiles bashfully as Jim approaches her desk. Romantic mood music plays in the background.

OFFICER: Jim Iyke! Hi! I'm a huge fan.
JIM: Thanks. How are you
OFFICER: Fine. Just returning from your summer holiday?
JIM: No, a business trip to Monrovia, Liberia.

Music screeches to a halt. The Officer's smile vanishes.

OFFICER: One minute please.

She slaps on a gas mask and latex gloves.

OFFICER: Oga Jim, please step into that cubicle and strip down to your birthday suit.
JIM: Say what?
OFFICER: I say make you enter dia off ya clothe.
JIM: Whatever for?
OFFICER: I need to conduct a cavity search on you. Who knows where Ebola don hide for ya body now? Biko no waste time. Enter cubicle.
JIM: What da f**K! This is bullsh*t men! Do you know who I am?
OFFICER: My friend move before I move you. You want to come and be sharing Ebola to us here abi? God nor go gree you.

She shoves Jim into the cubicle. She has a smile and a glimmer in her eyes as she shuts the door behind her.

Then...

JIM: Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Mynd44: If this is not his first warning, he should have obeyed or atleast found another school.

Imagine the chaos and confusion if everyone took their religion to school.

I doubt most of you people here will want your child/ward to sit beside a boy who comes to school with Juju if his parents are Pagans.
But you know if this had been about a boy suspended for being gay, everyone would be screaming homophobia. You can openly exhibit your sexual orientation, but you must keep your religion in the closet. Where is the freedom and equality?

I tend to disagree with you. In modern football, most players can function in more than one position. We saw Phillip Lahm play as a Rb and DM for Germany. Mascherano played as a CB for Barca most of last season. That Mikel was converted to a defensive midfielder at Chelsea doesn't mean he can no longer play as an attack-minded central midfielder. He played well in that role at the Nations Cup and Confederations Cup. He had a bad World Cup period.

Politics › Re: Nigerian Police And Assault Rifles by dabossman(m): 9:29am On Jul 28, 2014
imotal: People, what are we saying? First of all, America is organised in such a way that if the normal police who handle investigations and low level police work including patrol (with the pistols) cannot control a situation, the SWAT is called in(the heat these guys pack, you'll think they are fighting a war). In Nigeria, we do not have such major divisions. A typical Nigerian police can be on patrol today and tomorrow be assigned to the antibomb squad. Due to the scarcity of weapons, and added to the fact that the ak47 is an efficient weapon both in terms of accuracy and firepower(it carries 32 rounds per clip), it serves a very efficient role and thus is the weapon of choice for the Nigerian police.
I beg to disagree sir. Even in Nigeria we have SARS (Special Anti-Robbery Squad), we have MOPOL (Mobile Police), both of which are different from the regular cops in black-on-black. Even SARS and Mopol can move around with their high-caliber arms stcked away from view in their patrol vehicles until it is needed. SWAT teams don't move around with rifles in full view. There should be some level of discreet in policing.

The Nigerian police should try investing more in bullet-proof vests than all this assault rifles.

I was just having this conversation with a friend a couple of days ago. I wonder why our policemen can't just carry small side-arms? Every where you turn, it is long rifles everywhere. Is it like a new police policy? Just so primitive in my opinion.

I don't understand why people are even giving her stick over this. It's like a star player in the Nigerian Football league signing for a mid-table English Premier League team like Sunderland, Stoke, Newcastle, Aston Villa or something. Wouldn't that be a step-up from being a champion in a badly organized league?

This lady has taken a new step in her career. Hopefully it will lead to bigger and better things. Many of the big names in Hollywood started with insignificant bit roles. It took some of them 10 -20 years to even land their first major role. I bet if this had been about Nadia Buari or Jackie Appiah, the running-down talk wouldn't have been this bad. Jeez, why do we like to always rubbish our own.

Why not do your research? Not every African actor who has starred in a Hollywood movie played a slave.

englishmart: in the US, if you act perfectly as a slave, you'll keep acting only slave roles.
So John Amos, Louis Gossett Jr, Ruby Dee, Djimon Hounsou, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sidney Poitier and the many more who have played slave roles have never played anything else but slaves right?

You probably don't even know half of the names on that list. Don't worry, I understand.
TV/Movies › Re: Stephannie Okereke Plays Slave In Hollywood Movie! by dabossman(m): 6:26pm On Jul 22, 2014
Kossyne: There's nothing degrading about playing a slave role. She's still breaking into the industry, cut her some slack. Do you know how hard it is to get a role in a Hollywood movie?, some Americans will take that role free of charge. Its about selling "herself". Remember the journey of a thousand miles starts with a step. At least she's better than most local champions we have who are probably busy thinking of the next publicity stunt to pull. She's shown that she wants to take her career to the next level. As for Tom Cruise, he ll play any role you give him for the right money. He's an actor.
Don't mind that fellow. Is he talking about the same Tom Cruise that was once nominated for a Razzie for the Worst Actor? Does that make him a terrible actor? Did that stop him from succeeding in his career?
TV/Movies › Re: Stephannie Okereke Plays Slave In Hollywood Movie! by dabossman(m): 6:08pm On Jul 22, 2014
tony9k: Condemning her slave role appears to be inappropriate in my opinion. If you act as a prostitute in a movie does that make you a who.re. Acting is make belief to interpret the script correctly and make it real. One can condemn the proliferation of 'slave movies' bout the fact is that black people were slaves in 1908 the period captured by the film and the role would be given to a black person who is regarded as a very good one. She s a professional and she appears to be doing it well
Don't waste your breathe on these educated illiterates bro. An actor is playing a role in a period piece and they are running their mouth. Funny thing is, they are probably the same set of hypocrites who were applauding Lupita Nyongo for winning an Oscar while playing a slave role. I can't even count the number of top, black Hollywood stars who have played slave roles. The slave era existed and stories will always be written about it. Movies will also be made about it many years from now. Get over it.

And for those calling it crap because it's not yet on Youtube, IMDB, Wikipedia etc, gosh, do you even know what stage of production the movie is in?

larrymoore: Another flop is joseph Yobo, while on The pitch, anytime the super Eagle fails to score. On the opponent's side, he will just score an own goal to demonstrate how it should be done.
It's funny how people only remember Yobo for own goals, yet this same Yobo has rescued Nigeria several times by coming to score for Nigeria when our strikers were misfiring. I remember two back to back 2010 World Cup qualifiers where it was Yobo that rescued us from playing goalless draws with the likes of Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea.

Yobo is not a flop.

Sports › Re: Why Nigeria’s Round-of-16 Exit Representsfailure For The Super Eagles by dabossman(m): 11:51am On Jul 18, 2014
OP, you have made some valid points. However, what you have failed to consider is that football is a dynamic game. It is not mathematics. Yes we had a very good team 20 years ago, but it doesn't necessarily mean we will rule the world 20 years on. You can count the number of teams that have shown such consistency in the last 20 years on one hand. I'd probably say Germany, Italy and maybe Brazil.

Many factors come into play, and it's not just a Nigerian thing. Even success at age-grade level is not a guarantee. Argentina have won 5 of the last 10 U-20 tournaments than any country since 1990, producing many promising players, but for their standards as 2-time champions, they've largely been blowing hot and cold. Spain won it's first World Cup in 2010. Before that they have had several generations of players who looked promising in the past, but just didn't make it. They also had youth teams that won at youth level but didn't really excel at senior level. Portugal had a wonderful youth team in the late 80's to early 90's, but they've never achieved anything of significance at senior level. That is football sometimes. Mind you, most senior teams are made up of several generations of youth team players, and not usually one particular set. Nigeria's starting 11 had at least 5 former junior internationals.

Nigeria is still a baby when it comes to World Cups. Bigger teams with a better football pedigree have been going to the World Cup long before us yet never made it past second round or quarters in decades. Also consider the fact that most world cup semi-finals are dominated by European and South American teams. The rest of the globe, not just Nigeria need to break that dominance constantly.

You mentioned Senegal reaching the quarter-finals, but have they qualified for the World Cup since then? Algeria has been to the world Cup long before us, yet they just made second round for the first time in 2014 and we are applauding them? Is that not failure too? Cameroun since 1990? Zilch! Cote d'Ivorie's golden generation? Nada!

In truth, African countries need to put structures in place to develop a generation of footballers constantly. We also need to tackle age-falsification. But most of all, we need to pray, hope, trust or whatever it is, that we finally find that generation that everything cliques for and they have a good run at the global event. That was what happened in 1994 after years of failed attempts.

Lastly, the World Cup is for men, that is why only 8 countries have ever won it. Contrary to our beliefs, Nigeria is not a super-power in football. We can be eventually, but we are still far from being worthy to dine at the table of men. Let us stop having unrealistic expectations so we don't end up bitter and grossly disappointed.

My thoughts on failure to move from age-grade soccer to senior level: https://www.nairaland.com/1506923/failure-move-u17-senior-teamis

maputohq: I think the eagles over achieved to b third in Africa. Algeria really deserved top spot. we were far adrift Algeria; going by the last rankings. Cote d'ivoire won a match. dats enough point to keep them above us.
I beg to disagree with you on this sir. Many peeps just got carried away by the mobility of the Algerian team. Go to FIFA website and compare the stats of both teams. The only areas Algeria did better than us where no of goals scored(7-3) and distance covered(115.5km-100.5km per match).

We had more attempts per match (12.5 - 9.3) and completed more passes (1386-1194). Our shot on target percentages where the same 60%. Pass completion percentage same 70%.

The striking difference was that they moved quicker with the ball, especially on counters, while we transited slowly (no thanks to Mikel) and focused more on possession. We both won one match, drew one and lost two.
