Hashabiah:That was how Ifeajuna et al "wanted" to end the nonsense that the politicians were doing and ended up causing a cascade of crisis which led to a war which cost over 3 million innocent civilian lives and the institutionalization of corruption and national decay.......thus a result far worse than the so-called nonsense of the politicians and till today Nigeria is yet to be healed of the scars of that rather ill-advised decision of those naive youthful army officers. So you want another round of 33 year derailment from this democratic path? You think when military takes over now, they will just one day return power to civilians on their own? |
specialmati:So you really believe that Nigeria is like the US and other advanced countries where people vote based on concrete socioeconomic issues and antecedents? If so, why did Nigerian vote against a clean and accomplished public servant in 1999 in preference for Obasanjo who had a huge historical moral baggage for being part and parcel of the militaristic establishment which had caused suffering in the land for 33 years and the same Obasanjo even mocked mockery of the struggle to end military rule? Also, why did they vote for Obasanjo again in 2003 with his first term performance record of genocides in Odi and Zakibiam amidst escalating commodity prices coupled with general hardship and incessant increase in petroleum products pump prices? You seem to overrate the Nigerian electorate. E go shock you. |
aviara:Yet SS voted massively for Obasanjo in 2003 when the SE presented Ojukwu, and again gave bloc votes to Yaradua in 2007 when the SE presented Ojukwu again. Even when Azikiwe contested in 1979 and again in 1983 the people who make up today's SS regions voted massively against him. It was even Northern States like Benue and Plateau that give him good votes. Even now that the SE's demand for the 2023 PDP ticket is highly justified on account of their unconditional love, unwavering fondness, masochistic dedication and unquestioning loyalty to the party since 1999, a leading SS figure in the party (Nyesom Wike) was surprisingly the first to call the bluff of them by publicly declaring that he won't mind having the PDP zone her ticket to the North if that is what will pave the way for the party back to Aso Rock in 2023 and no SS person, including your very self, has condemned him yet you want people to believe you and your SS people are with the SE during sun and rain. Even the Jonathan because of whom the SE made a lot of enemies for themselves and have burnt all their potential bridges to alliances that could land them in power, has been working tactically for the APC which the SE perceives as her vicious enemy while the people of the supposed SE-loving SS keep rationalizing Jonathan's actions with narratives like "Jonathan only wanted to teach Sylva or Dickson a lesson by supporting APC, blah blah blah". Keep deceiving the SE there. It will take a lot for the SE to realize that the SS is actually their biggest political enemy region. |
TOPCRUISE:Even some parents who went to school do act like this mother these days. Times have really changed for bad. My grandmother never saw the gates of any school but she wouldn't tolerate seeing us making fun of our teachers back in the house with her let alone following us to school to harrass a teacher for carrying out any disciplinary action on us. To parents of those generations, teachers were next after God. |
joeyfire:In the America where he (Zik) schooled, he never heard anyone chant "One America" neither did he see the country practice unitary system. So how could such a man who returned from America to Nigeria to espouse the direct opposites of what he saw obtaining in America be credited with having the American experience influencing his line of thought? This is logic turned upside down. |
mrvitalis:If the opinion of the masses don't matter, then why do politicians buy their votes for as much as $50 on the average in all election seasons? Only Yorubas can't determine who becomes president, likewise only the North can't else Buhari wouldn't have needed to seek alliance with the SW in 2015 but just relied on his solid hold on the North. Obasanjo became president in 1999 because Igbos and the SS colluded with theit usual allies, the North, whose candidate he obviously was. So it was a matter of some section of the South choosing to please their Northern masters once again at the detriment of the Southern interest. But when the whole South united behind Jonathan without any section selling out, Jonathan won straight and that is why I still maintain that a united South is all that is needed for a Southerner to become president. At independence, both the popular votes and MP seats of the Southern parties combined dwarfed that of the North but because Igbos chose to sell out, the South couldn't produce the Prime minister and that seved as the foundation of all that the South came to suffer till today in the Nigeria project. . Per the aspect of insults, you are just trying to deliberately deviate from my point which is that Igbos have insulted tribes in the collective sense unlike other tribes. I am not talking of individual politicians who are even more insulted by their own tribesmen. The singular politian whom Fayose insults most is his very kinsman Obasanjo. FFK has insulted Tinubu more than he has done to any other non-Yoruba. But you won't hear FFK or Fayose insult Igbos, Hausas, Edos, Ijaws, Fulanis collectively as Kanu does to the applause of his fellow Igbos. Reno Omokri may chide and throw veiled insults at Tinubu, Buhari, etc but he will never target the entire Yorubas as a tribe. But Kanu and lot other Igbo public figures have severally insulted the Edos as a tribe, the Ijaws in the collective sense, the Yorubas as a tribe, the Hausas and Fulanis as tribes, etc. There lies the difference. There is really nothing to envy about the Igbos. This theory of envy was invented to play down on the fact that the distrust and hatred for Igbos stems from the fact that they carried out a coup which at the conception stage had the objective of eliminating all the allegedly corrupt politicians only for them to, at the execution stage, griuesomely kill the politicians of all other regions while they helped theirs escape to safety. This is the basis for the hatred and mistrust for Igbos. Forget all the concocted stories of envy of their actually unattractive and inconsequential success which they only know of in monetary terms. |
mrvitalis:MKO, a Southerner, won the 1993 election by a landslide without zoning. If at all zoning now really has Influence on the road to presidency, then even Northerners are affected. Recall that as a Southerner, Jonathan won the 2011 election just after he destroyed zoning. You know why it worked for him? Answer: his tribe and region were not known for insulting other tribes hence he got sympathy from the entire South and most middle Belt areas. Likewise, Yorubas are not known for insulting every other tribe and that explains why Tinubu is currently finding sympathy across five regions already except the SE for obvious reasons. The day Igbos unlearn the culture of baseless bitterness and political insolence is the day Igbo presidency will become attractive to all other tribes. No one hates Igbos for the mere fact that they are Igbos, but because of their irritating attitude. |
LLiKYekoba:What Yorubas agitated for was not presidency but that a sovereign National Conference be convened to renegotiate Nigeria. Agitation for MKO presidency was more of a pan-Nigerian thing than a Yoruba thing. The Niger Deltans too didn't agitate for presidency but for resource control which was almost same in meaning and purpose as the SNC which Yorubas asked for. Fulanis didn't use Boko Haram and Fulani Herdsmen menace to agitate for presidency else these two groups would have stopped their activities since 2015 when their brother, Buhari, got into power. But let us even take it hypothetically with you that these militia groups of these regions agitated for presidency with their actions. But the question you have to answer is whether they insulted every other tribe in their agitations or only directed their grouse against the federal government? Did OPC ever insult other regions and blame them for the predicaments they were protesting against? Did Niger Delta Militants ever insult Northerners as a region or Yorubas as a whole for the biodegradation problem they were protesting agains or even the Igbos who actually caused their problem by way of Aguiyi Ironsi's Unification Decreet? Did Boko Haram or even Fulani herdsmen ever insult any tribe in the process of their agitation against the FG? But Ipobians have insulted other tribes and even focused less on the FG in their agitations and that exactly is why other tribes won't support Igbo presidency like they have done to the presidential bids of Niger Deltans, Yorubas and Fulanis. Igbos should first go and learn how to carry out violent or peaceful agitation with decorum and respect for other tribes. |
Burruchaga71:When your historical political alliance partners, The Northern Oligarchy, denied your Ekweme the presidency in 1999 for a less qualified Obasanjo, what did you do other than to even go ahead and vote massively for Obasanjo? You would make a lot of money if you look the way of fiction writing. |
jrusky:Your comment is very true and factual but per the bolded, that structure was destroyed by Jonathan when he decided to contest in 2011 against the fact that according to the PDP zoning agreement a Northerner was supposed to have been allowed to complete Yaradua's tenure. Recall that such was the honest position of Ogbulafor the PDP national chairman back then but Jonathan quietened him by throwing up fictitious corruption charges against him. |
barragan:I have been hammering on this too. If APC tries it, the party will go extinct within 4 years. If the PDP they have so much worshipped, slaved for, sacrificed blindly for and insulted all other tribes in defense of in the last 22 years is hesitant to reward them with their 2023 ticket, then APC would be too naive to hand them its own in pursuit of the so-called justice, national unity and fair play. Does PDP forbid working for national unity, justice and fair play too? |
kettykin:But it was the same Igbos that successfully laboured to kill every motion to have such plebiscite in our constitution. Those who had the foresight that there was the need to put in place structures that would help resolve the mutual skepticism exactly the way you suggest were insulted and labeled enemies of Nigeria and agents of sectional agenda by Igbos who even instigated the British to threaten them with treason charges. |
Aufbauh:I wrote them off the day they took Wole Soyinka to the cleaners because of his stance against some poorly thought out utterances of Jonathan. If they could so insult Wale Soyinka who stuck his head out for them during the war and for that got imprisoned for three years, then there is no one they can't insult. |
seguno2:Are Edo people not presently realizing that Tinubu was right in that video even though they may not want to openly admit it due to ego? |
Darkcloud11:According to you, Osinbajo will turn heads in the SS and SE. In another line you say APC is hated by all SS tribes except Urhobos. Now, we all know that if Osinbajo is to contest, it will definitely be under APC. So how will he then turn heads in the SE and SS with the APC ticket in his hands? Your analysis are not adding up bro. I am from the SS too and the Tinubu project is taking roots gradually in the SS. Only the SE crying more than the bereaved since 2015 will obviously not vote for Tinubu to any reasonable level. The SS will at worst give his the 25% required by the constitution. |
Darkcloud11:The SS has since put the issue of 2015 behind them. Moreover, the honest ones among them have openly come out to state clearly that Jonathan's administration didn't favour them in any meaningful way. Bayelsans who own Jonathan most among the SS people wouldn't have voted for Tinubu's party's candidate so massively in their last guber election had they been of the grudge you are trying to insinuate. Even the GEJ whose 2015 defeat this your grudge theory is built on has since leaving Aso Rock been working for APC and against PDP in all the state and even federal elections that came up in Bayelsa thereafter. You seem not to be even aware that both of Jonathan's home Federal Constituency and Senatorial District in Bayelsa are currently being represented in the National Assembly by APC members courtesy of Jonathan's support to their victories in the 2019 federal elections. Only the SE keeps such grudges thus taking politics personally and playing it very childishly. |
DubaiLandLord1:Why are you finding it difficult to understand that their hatred for Tinubu is founded on Tinubu's decision to exercise his constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of association by breaking ranks with Jonathan in the build up to the 2015 election to forge alliance with the North....a thing which they themselves have been guiltiest of since 1960 but hypocritically pointing accusing fingers about it today? |
DubaiLandLord1:Don't mind them. This Edo thing has so much overexcited them into becoming too forgetful of the Bayelsa APC victory which was far more overwhelming in percentage than that of Edo which was a very narrow Pyrrhic victory. |
Darkcloud11:Some of you seem to overplay this Edo thing even when there is palpable regret and a current feeling of having being fooled with the anti-godfatherism campaign especially considering what Edo PDP is currently suffering in Obaseki's hands in the last ten months. Without prejudice to the fact that the his victory was even by a slim majority, Ize-Iyamu's loss was largely caused by himself as he left a lot of stones unturned due to complacency. And most importantly, Edo people don't come out to vote enmass on presidential elections and Edo is one of the leading states on the list of states with the highest uncollected PVCs as against the North which pour out on voting day and are the ones really going to give Tinubu his landslide the same way they gave it to Obasanjo in 1999 onto his victory. |
aviara:In the build up to 2015 election the APC tried to do something about this peace, fairness, equity and national unity by making to Igbos the olive branch offer that they work with the party so as to be rewarded with the party's ticket in 2023 which is just barely a year from now, but Igbos rejected it vehemently and insulted the party to number nonsense. In fact if they had their way, INEC wouldn't have even registered the party into existence in 2013. Now, APC is not likely to offer them her 2023 ticket again for fear of a repeat of the 2015 embarrassment from them hence only their beloved PDP which they have slaved for in the past 22 years, and in defense of which they have made enemies for themselves across all other tribes has the moral obligation to do them this justice, fairness and equity by simply rewarding their slavery with her 2023 ticket. But unfortunately the financial leader of the PDP, Wike' who happens to be a cousin to them has come out to openly say that he doesn't mind having the party's 2023 ticket zoned to the North, and till this moment no single Igbo person has publicly denounced him for this obvious utterance of injustice, and inequity to the Igbos. So whose fault therefore that Igbo presidency is very unlikely now? |
uduokirika1:The alleged crosscarpeting was actually more of alliances between parties. It was exactly like how Zik chose to align his NCNC with NPC at independence. So how was that connected to tribalism? Moreover Awolowo's rejection of Zik's bid to rule the Western Region was not motivated by tribalism but by his belief in need to adhere to the purpose for which the regions were created in the first instance..... which was self rule. As a federalist, it didn't make sense to Awolowo to see a person from another region trying to govern the Western Region when his own Eastern Region was there for him to govern. Awolowo said it was wrong in principle for a non-native of the Western Region (not necessarily a non Yoruba) to seek to become premier of the Western Region. There were non-Yorubas in the Western Region back then, e g. Binis, Ijaws, Urhobos, Esans, Okpameris, Etunos, Etsakos, Itsekiris, Isokos, Unemes, Owans and even the Igboid Aniomas, but Awolowo didn't object to the idea of any of these tribes ruling the Western Region since they were co-natives of it with the Yorubas. So how you read tribalism into a pro-federalist position of Awolowo is quite queer. |
olion:Those policemen are worse than useless. They only stay on the portions of the roads right within Ikpeshi and close to the quarry sites in Igarra axis to milk commercial mortocyclist dry thereby causing astronomical increase in transport fares between Igarra and Auchi. Only the Vigilante groups are actually working as they alone dare to stay in the isolated areas between two adjacent settlements. |
jaxxy:Is there any real or perceived issue of godfatherism in this forthcoming guber election there? There is no nexus whatsoever between Anambra and Edo. Visit Obaseki's Facebook address and see for yourself who and who are presently asking for his head. They are all known Torgbarians. If you want those numerous videos of regret from his Edo-No-Be-Lagos foot soldiers, I will gladly furnish you with them right here. Just indicate your interest. |

jaxxy:Funny enough, those actually wailing in Edo State now are the very folks who chanted Edo no be Lagos just this time last year as they now nurse pains of regret amidst feelings of being fooled with that cliche given the fact that their principal has continued to patronize Lagos for talents which they themselves have in abundance back at home. The leader of the Edo no be Lagos squad has since relocated to Lagos to seek livelihood amidst his deteriorating health out of utter disappointment over his principal's dumping of him after the election. He is now making online videos from Lagos apologizing to Oshiomhole et al for his verbal recklessness of last year. On the kidnapping issue in Edo, it is obvious that unlike other states, the security votes the state gets is not of any benefit to the people as even the state vigilante members are no longer being paid any wages by the governor. The particular road where this abduction in question happened saw those vigilantes exit few months ago over issues of ceasure of the monthly stipends they were collecting before. |
obynzo:Can't you see as you are ranting as a broken record with your incoherent and shifty defense lines? So in your useless and persecution complex-infested brain the positions of envoy, adviser and foreign affairs minister combined do not translate to leadership position? Then what is the definition of leadership position? Are you sure you went to school at all? So a minister is not a leader of his ministry? A portfolio holder is not a leader by any standard? Even your fellow Igbos are so ashamed of you that they are avoiding you like a plague in this thread. Idiot. |
obynzo:You are a cow and a goat combined. How old were you yourself during the war? Definitely Zik's son seniors you in physical age hence it is idiotic on your part to have boasted of deep knowledge of Nigeria's political history and then question that of the son of Zik whose was lectured by his father who happened to be a major player in those events. You read and believe that there were WW 1, WW 2, American Civil War, etc, yet not even your parents had been born then. If being alive during the time of an event is what it takes for one to be an authority on those events, then What are historical records and books for? When I say you attended a bush school, you think I am insulting you. Brainless cranium and hopeless coconut head! |
obynzo:I have never in my wildest imagination seen myself in a date with an Igbo lady talkless of actually attempting in rea life a relationship with one that could culminate in her breaking my heart. You would do better to just address the posers I have placed before you here than trying to derail this enlightening debate with this thrash you just threw up. Ineffectual Buffon. |
revolt:How can someone abolish regionalism and the regions would still remain in place to have resource control? revolt:How could the regions still be adjudged autonomous when Ironsi had in his May 24 national broadcast ordered his appointed regional governors to be reporting to him at the center? We're the regional premiers reporting to Balewa at the center during the period of genuine regional autonomy before Ironsi came on board? revolt:Every sincere person knows that to end the chaos resulting from a crisis, all it takes is to address the cause of the cause. We all are aware that the chaos which attracted the coup was the Western Region crisis which itself was a fall out of Balewa's abuse of power at the center by way of unlawfully interfering with the Akintola impeachment process on the Western House of Assembly, and also technically endorsing the rigging of the 1962 census in favour of the North and re-rigging the rerun of that census. Now common sense dictated that whoever sincerely came to arrest the chaos would have looked for ways to weaken the center where lower was so abused by Balewa hence such a person would promulgate centrifugal decrees which would have further transferred powers from the center to the regions thus forestalling a future repeat of abuse of power at the center. But Ironsi's doing of the direct opposite (i.e. taking more powers away from the regions to the center) was a logical evidence that he didn't have the genuine intention of addressing the chaos but to use the chaos as an opportunity to entrench his long held Igbo domination agenda. revolt:With Ironsi's Unification (centralization) of the civil service, resource control died. The civil service is the institution which any government uses to generate revenue and from both the mineral and human resources within her domains so a centralized civil service will only generate revenue for the central government. FIRS is a centralized institution. Now, Is it possible for FIRS staff working in Anambra State to generate VAT in Anambra and remit it to the account of Anambra State government? revolt:Zik was initially in cahoots with Balewa and Akintola in fanning the embers in the West. How come a coup hatched supposedly to rescue the West ended up sparing Zik but taking Akintola's life? Moreover, why still go ahead with the coup when Balewa had publicly agreed in a press interview that a political solution was underway which would see Awolowo released from prison hence douse totally the tension in the West? revolt:I used to believe too that Ironsi knew nothing about the coup but some logical comparison with other similar instances started giving me reasons to believe those who link him with the coup. Take for example Jonathan with all his acclaimed gentleness did all he could to kill the Okar brothers once it became established that it was they who attempted to bomb the life out of him on October 1 2010. Likewise, once it became established that Ifeajuna plotted to kill Ojukwu during the war and thereafter take over Biafra leadership and then negotiate with the federal side for a ceasefire towards a reintegration of Biafra into one-Nigeria, you and I know Ojukwu apprehended him, tried him and wasted him immediately. These two instances show that humans naturally do fatal justice to those who attempted to kill them but failed. Now, how come Ironsi could for six whole months tolerate seeing alive those whose sword he later realized he narrowly escaped if he himself was totally ignorant of their coup plot? |
obynzo:Blind AfghanEASTern terrorist. Was it only advisory duty you read Azikiwe's biological son crediting to his father in that interview, or you as usual didn't open it at all? So for a person to be traveling all over the world officially and in representative capacity of his country is not a leadership role? Your weak lines of defense here lay it bare before the whole world that you are one of the eaters of Lamidi Cownu's poo. |
obynzo:You are an idiot with a rotten brain. A fool among fools. if not, you would have seen the copious references from credible journals all featuring on it, and that is if you opened the link at all. The author didn't write it as a thesis but as an summary account of the events which he compiled from different documented sources written by eyewitnesses and contemporary academics of those periods. Please which bush school did you attend in your AfghanEASTerns terrorist region where you were taught that a thesis is same as a narration? Big Buffon! If you can't show proof that Michael Okpara received a delegation Lettie from Lagos mandating him to travel from Enugu to Ibadan to beg Awolowo's wife for the very all-South alliance which you AfghanEASTern idiots initially rejected in pursuit of your domination agenda calculations, then you remain the stinking victim of moronic plague you are. |
